The WIV BSL4 was also working on cloning Nipah virus Bangladesh strain (death rate 50%-75%). And then there's Marburg (death rate 80%), for which a PCR test is developed and a vaccine (based on ricine) is being coincidentally rushed through test phases. The CDC has also been warning for an uptick in Acute Flaccid Myelitis (poliomyelitis) since last year. And then there's Bill anouncing a worse pandemic.

I highly recommend a rechargeable electric lighter! I discovered it thanks to a YouTuber I watch. I liked the product so much I gave them out as Christmas gifts last year and it was a hit for Dirty Santa too! I got one and it is still going strong as it approaches one year of having it.

According to Daniel Ellsberg, the US has always had a first strike policy.
And by default, NATO.
The goal of the various missile defence programs was a defence against retaliation, not a Russian, or originally Soviet, first strike.
Its possible the Russia also has a first strike policy. Historical incidents would indicate otherwise.
We use these. Been in place for a couple years, no issues. We replace batteries annually along with smoke alarms.
Have you dehydrated food? I've seen these.
Basically trial and error from 19 to 27 as it progressively got worse. I'd been to so many different doctors and practitioners with little help from western medicine at least starting out. (Not to say I'm antiscience, but the microbiome wasn't widely understood yet.) Even the things that did help only helped for a certain amount of time as the fungus grew resistant to it. Stumbled onto niacin and tried it after discovering it was an antifungal and had all of these other brain benefits. First time I took it I immediately felt my body relax and the pain subside a little. That's when I really dug in and learned as much as I could about it. There is a book called "Niacin the real story" that talks about experiments where they used megadoses of niacin to treat all sorts health issues and while I can't speak on those I would not be surprised in the least. When I started taking it my mind was a mess: depressed, confused, agitated. Slowly over time everything got better. It will definitely be a lifelong prep, and I recommend it to anyone even without health issues as its such a powerful health restorer. Cheers.

> Still over double what I was paying 2 years ago
I picked up a Smart Oil Gauge last winter and it's already saved me a full tank fill, by carefully watching the prices and my daily consumption. I'm saving a few hundred per-year now just by using this one meter.
No subscription fee, no upsell, just the cost of the meter and that's it. They also have an API, for something like $2.00/month if you wanted to pull your data of programmatically and ship it off to something like Prometheus+Grafana to make some charts of your usage.
The "bulb" sensors aren't accurate, and don't show me any usage or estimates of how long I can go before I have to fill up again. That alone, let me stretch my tank another month before needing a refill, and I could keep track of price changes day to day before finally deciding to fill up again.
I just pre-emptively filled my tank for the winter this week, when the prices dropped $0.50/gallon to $3.84/gallon, still expensive, but not nearly as bad as it would have been if I wasn't carefully monitoring it.
If you have oil heat, I would STRONGLY installing getting one of these meters. They're going for $179 on Amazon (non-referral link), and you'll save that in your first fill-up.
They're probably moving around so the store managers don't hassle them. At night they probably park in vacant store parking lots or locations that don't care if they're there.
Some of this was happening after the 2008 Crash. Now that the screwed are getting tightened with rampant inflation, people working full-time are going to end up living out of their cars, known as the "Working Homeless".
A pretty good saga that covers this slow drag into complete civil financial ruin is The American Apocalypse by Nova.
It's a dark ride, but it will give many tips on how to ride out what we're seeing out there right now.

Some tidbits:
“New Yorkers are going to need to develop a culture of preparedness,” Aggarwala said, standing outside Mrvica’s home. “It doesn't mean the city is going to shirk responsibility. We’re going to do everything we can.”
"It’s part of an effort to get New Yorkers to change their own sense of personal responsibility in response to climate change, Aggarwala said, noting that property owners along the coast in the southeastern U.S. are told to keep a stockpile of food, water and medicine in case of severe storms."
"The emphasis on homeowner responsibility comes after statements by Mayor Eric Adams describing the city’s role in storm preparedness as largely one of communicating risk, evacuation routes and possible preventive measures for flooding. "

“No one saw the war in Ukraine several months back.” Peter Zeihan wrote about the Ukraine war, in substantial detail, 5 years ago.
Russia’s demographics compel them act now to re-establish their historic borders, now or never. Uncanny accuracy, the guy knows his stuff. Though the Ukrainians have vastly over-achieved versus his expectations.
Zeihan’s newsletter - free - has regular updates on geopolitics, and he has a new book coming out next week.

And holy crap. I haven't looked for formula in like 9 months, it's very sparse out there.
I am deeply dubious of the accuracy, but as long as it identifies that there is significant radiation, it'll tell us if we're getting hit with fallout or just smoke and dust.
Context is that we are downwind of a major city by about 50 miles. If there's an airburst, we could get a shit ton of smoke and even ash from the inevitable wildfires that would start and it might be hard to tell from fallout. We've gotten ashfall from fires as far as 50 miles away in the past.
If there's ground bursts, that shit coming out of the sky could be radioactive.
If the meter starts screaming about radiation, it's time to hole up for 2-3 weeks, but I wouldn't trust it to tell me if it was truly safe outside.
I can't afford a $500-$1000 properly calibrated meter.

Those are the jars. The company has metal lids. They're 4" ID 4 1/8" OD. I was a bit disappointed when I realized I couldn't just use wide mouth lids I had on hand. My issue is I found lids that say 110 mm lids (about 3/16") but I'm not sure if that is the od of the lid or the actual ID of the lid.

Make sure all your neighbors have Briar Project BEFORE the internet dies. It is an app that downloads to your phone which functions with OR WITHOUT internet for messaging, blogging, etc. In the event of total loss of internet your cell phone, with this app, acts as a radio to link you with nearby neighbors - a meshnet. This is also a good security mechanism if you are stuck indoors and trying to reach out to your trusted neighbor network as part of the process to keep your area safe, or if you need help / update.

How they go is quite sobering.
If it were up to me, I would not sacrifice the 1-2 million plus American lives for Taiwan. It'd be dishonest to claim that it could be done cheaply or with a couple more weapons systems sold to Tsai Ing-wen.

I'm all for direct barter if possible, but I'm also pragmatic enough to keep a pile of fractional rounds around in various types of metals too for use if we can't reach other accommodation in trade.
>I wish I knew how to grow indoors over our snowy winters. Something to learn I suppose.
If you have outdoor space, you can still grow outside using low tunnels and row covers. This book taught me how:
I highly recommend it. This guy grows year round in Vermont. I mean, you can't grow tomatoes year round but you can easily supply your greens and other cold tolerant vegetables. Pretty cool method.
If I'm understanding you correctly, you might want to recheck that because I use a propane tree when I go camping and I'm able to run a lantern, bbq, and stove off a 20 lb tank with no issues. The first time I tried it I ran into the same issue, no/low gas, but after some research; safety valve.

Wow, I didn’t know they still made v8 fusion. I was a kid when they came out and I remember the hype and everyone’s parents buying them thinking they were super healthy which compared to our regular diet of capri suns they were.

I recently installed an FS-TFC 5 stage RO system for my daughter. It's a small system and fits under the sink.
https://www.amazon.com/FS-TFC-Reverse-Osmosis-Filtration-System/dp/B07F71QR5L/
I think all 5 stage RO systems in this price range are probably about equal. Not hard to install either. But one thing to keep in mind is that they are a 1:1 filtration system. Meaning for every gallon filtered, a gallon goes down the drain.
Since we both seem to be suffering from the Pur filter shortage, I think I'm going to install one of these under my sink, and then just yank the filter from the Pur in the fridge and use it as a dispenser, filling it with RO.
I'm also considering a countertop dispenser that has built in filtration - https://www.amazon.com/Avalon-B8BLK-Touchless-Countertop-Bottleless/dp/B089LMM5S3

You need to see, period. Its even better when you have your hands free. I used a headlamp on a daily basis and can argue its at least as important as a knife, and can say I'm not going back to anything under 18650 size due to the run times alone. Currently looking at this one, doubles as a battery bank, onboard charging, 18650 or 21700 batteries (many more if you have an adapter set), weight depends mostly on the battery being used, can be used as a rechargeable hand-warmer (super underrated for winter) magnetic tail cap has many uses aside just to stick the flashlight to things, can be left on the charger so its always charged. Don't cheap out, or you'll likely be left in the dark.
