Chromium is also an OS. ChromeOS is the operating system that google makes optimized hardware for. ChromiumOS is the open-source project that shouldn't be used by the average consumer (so they say).
Honestly? This is the tablet i keep looking at myself http://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_253958.html
The ultra looks good but 2gb ram in a tablet is hard when i'm looking at a phone with 4 in a few weeks and the tegra chips just seem to be missing something(if we could get a tablet with an atom and nvidia graphics that would be impressive...)
Version 2016012301 is up on http://www.jide.com/en/remixos-for-pc#downloadNow
Changelog / announcement on their google group at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/remix-os-for-pc/Tl9yTkALhN8:
Version: 2.0.100 Build number: B2016012301 Release date: 01/25/2016
Update: • Fix: Battery indicator enabled • Fix: Some minor bugs fixed
EDIT - Still seems to have problems with nvidia graphics or something, at least on my laptop. I'm still getting hard locks when I open browser sometimes.
You can open your contacts from https://contacts.google.com/
Whatsapp can backup your conversations to Drive but it's not enabled by default AFAIK.
I don't think you'll be able to install Whatsapp on a non phone device since you won't be able to confirm your phone number with an SMS.
1 Create a bootable USB with RemixOS on it. Look here for instructions. Note that you have to do this on a Windows PC. Note also that your USB stick has to have a writing speed faster than 20Mb/s (I use a Sandisk Cruzer Extreme).
2 Out of the box, the Toshiba won't boot from USB. Make sure you have installed SeaBIOS (see here). You do not have to open your Chromebook to remove screws or stickers.
3 Enter Developer mode and press Ctrl-d
4 Enable boot up from USB and legacy boot: Open a terminal by pressing Ctrl-Alt-t, enter 'shell' and type
sudo crossystem dev_boot_usb=1 dev_boot_legacy=1.
5 Plug in your USB stick.
6 Restart the Chromebook, enter developer mode, but now press Ctrl-l while you're in the scary white screen. Then choose the USB device that you want to start from
7 Remix OS will start up
I don't know about Remix OS, but I do know that if you have root on Android if you install Texdroider DPI, you can manually set your DPI, which will make everything larger or smaller
These are the only install instructions I could find: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/installing-remix-os-3-0-hard-drive/
They are having a number of issues right now though with audio and Intel iGPUs.
None of these apps are actually filtering blue light (they just add a red overlay), the screen color temperature remains the same with or without the app. The only app for Android capable of doing it properly is the f.lux beta which is currently at an early stage of development for Android. You can register on f.lux forums and request beta access for free by replying to a topic. You need to have root too. The app is buggy but it gets frequent updates. See here: https://justgetflux.com/forum/topic/147/would-it-be-possible-for-me-to-get-the-version-of-f-lux-on-android-you-have-internally/460
More information on why these apps are not the same as f.lux: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/14fnxj/devs_would_it_be_possible_to_create_a_flux_like/c7co3xn
I'm not entirely sure if it will work on RemixOS, but have a go.
hmm, did you try <strong>this xposed module</strong>
I use homebrew to install, but it pulled the this dmg; 90mb link which you could find on their download page next to "VirtualBox 5.0.12 for OS X hosts"
I am on a brand new imac so ymmv if your machine is older.
download AnTuTu Benchmark 6.0.4 and AnTuTu 3DBench 6.0.4 from this link below - https://www.apkmirror.com/?s=ANTUTU&post_type=app_release
Install them both and run AnTuTu Benchmark after installation.
A bootloader is something that loads an operating system's kernel. Grub is a bootloader, but it was made for mainly linux, with support for other OSes. So is rEFInd, but it is better than grub in many ways. It has icons and stuff, and auto-scans for OSes. With grub, you have ti update the config. However, for some reason, the remix os/android x86 linux kernel cannot be loaded directly by rEFInd, you need grub to do it, but rEFInd can load grub. Grub is installed automatically by most linux distros.
You'll need to fiddle around a bit to put the iso on a USB stick and have it be bootable on the Mac.
These instructions (though for Ubuntu) should work fine:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-mac-osx
1. Convert the iso
to dmg
hdiutil convert -format UDRW -o out.img in.iso
2. dd
the dmg
to the USB stick
# identify which device is your USB, e.g. /dev/disk2 diskutil list diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk2 sudo dd if=/path/to/out.img.dmg of=/dev/rdisk2 bs=1m diskutil eject /dev/disk2
3. Boot your Mac while holding alt
4. Select the USB stick to boot
As this isn't an EFI based image, you might also need to install rEFInd on your hard drive. Be careful doing that though as it's a potentially destructive process!
I think there is a Remix OS rom specifically for the Nexus 9, though. Check out Official Remix ROMS. There seems to be a Nexus 9 rom posted.
Edit: Note that the rom is Remix OS 1.5, but I'd imagine they'll push out a 2.0 rom at some point.
> It is not guaranteed it will run perfectly on any devices
Well, it probably runs perfectly on the UltraTablet
OP, you don't need more than 2 gigs of RAM to play mobile games. 4 is probably the max that any game would be designed for. If you're buying something exclusively to use Remix, one of these would be your best bet.
I've used ubuntu forever, it practically installs itself and its pretty easy to get DVDs working. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs
The issue is that someone is supposed to pay a license fee to play dvds, and no free distro is gonna front that money.
Here's the one I bought: http://www.amazon.com/Fintie-Surface-Sleeve-Case-Build/dp/B00W9H8NXS. Fit like a glove. No room for charging cable though. For pics, click here: https://swappa.com/listing/ZBM151/view
Sorry, yes that is correct. To clarify, I assumed that op might at least be interested in a mirroring ability. Here is another that I found, this actually lets your device show up as a Chromecast device to cast to.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.softmedia.receiver.castapp&hl=en
But yes for specific applications like Netflix there is no such thing.
You can actually use an app like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast.receiver&hl=en
I've never used Remix OS but I'm assuming you can install playstore apps or at least sideload them?
You may need this for the PS controllers: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller&hl=en_GB
As for the third party BT controller, is it aimed for a certain console or PC? Have you tested it with other Android devices?
IT's using USB for everything, using the USB-OTG standard. The laptop's maximum resolution is 1080p, which is more than enough for the USB to handle.
Andromium, which is their "OS", is essentially just a launcher, IMO.
It is basically an external keyboard, mouse and monitor all packaged nicely togethere.
Like playing this game --> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playdead.limbo.full&hl=en It requires multiple touch inputs (two to be precise, with two fingers). And one mouse pointer means only one input.
So I could hold an object in the game but can't drag it. Similarly, I could run, but can't jump. :P

There is a Android app for many of the Office products. You can look at the links above to see what the app looks like/the functionality it has.
