I truly, honestly believe that anger and rampant drug problems in cities are the result of cities. The human brain has trouble dealing with the overstimulation and sheer volume of other people around it.

Comes form one of the best books I've ever read as a fan of military history. The low-kinetic warfare of tribal societies and the high-kinetic warfare of medieval European societies were unprepared to engage with each other and caused absolute chaos.
You could probably find a lot of "criminals" to empathize with. The problem is that it is simply too easy to labeled a criminal by the state. There is a book out there called Three Felonies A Day that is a pretty good read.

In Japan, a country famous for its disaster preparedness, over 300 people just died in July from typhoons and related flooding/weather. No one ever compares the deaths in Puerto Rico due to Maria with other Caribbean islands effected. The storm was massive. Deaths were inevitable. The US did what it could do. Honestly this shit is insulting to all the people who went there to help.
Could the response have been better? Maybe. No one is willing to look into the local government and everyone places complete blame on the feds. We never do that with other disasters in the US. This is a republic with division of power - local governments are much more powerful in the US compared to other countries. Yes, PR is not a state, but disaster preparedness is still largely their responsibility. And to say the federal government doesn’t care is disingenuous. They threw dozens of billions USD to repair PR after this.
