installing windows and following the instructions. all application run in apt but then the last step is to download from source. I am stuck. I downloaded the tar file but when i try to see the file I dont see it so the command does not work at all. root@OMAR1PC:~# tar -zxf git-2.0.0.tar.gz tar (child): git-2.0.0.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now tar: Child returned status 2 tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now root@OMAR1PC:~# mtn/c/ -bash: mtn/c/: No such file or directory root@OMAR1PC:~# /mtn/c/ -bash: /mtn/c/: No such file or directory root@OMAR1PC:~# the instruction is on this website https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Getting-Started-Installing-Git Now, I am new to this whole issue of directory, path name and so on. I know the cd commands but have difficulty why once I download a file there seems to be broken path it can not open it. i know how to use cd but still I can not run the file. Why? how does the ubuntu access the c drive files? I read some but not clear how. I know the need to be on same folder but ubuntu is not in my computer right? it is on server. So, where are the files?
I'm following https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/editor/tasks and when I get to TypeScript Hello World I generate the tsconfig.json (which in my understanding makes this folder a workspace folder), I then create HelloWorld.ts and copy and paste the contents. When I hit Ctrl+Shift+B VSCode tells me that "Tasks are only available on a workspace folder". How do I make this a workspace folder if it's not the .json? Also the guide refers to a Tasks menu, which I don't seem to have. Google tells me that with version 1.27 the Tasks menu got renamed to Terminal which I don't understand because the terminal is something completely different...
I have followed this tutorial exactly: https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/typescript/typescript-tutorial . I have tried using create-react-app with the typescript flag. I have been able to get the above links working fine on a different Macbook Pro, but not this one. If I run "tsc test.ts" on the command line then it will show the type problems in the console, but in VS Code i get no squiggly lines or intellisense hints. When I right click to Go To Definition there is no such option, etc. Someone told me the language server doesn't seem to be starting. Does anyone know how I can troubleshoot further? I have tried reinstalling VSCode and tslint extension, to no avail. VSCode screenshot
Linux kernel ============ There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first. In order to build the documentation, use make htmldocs

It turns out you can test a Linux distro without having to put it on a USB drive and booting to it. There is a website that provides a virtual machine for you. You just choose the distro, click start, wait a minute, then presto, a VM opens immediately! Here's an article about it from Linux Insider: https://www.linuxinsider.com/story/86178.html Here's the actual website: https://distrotest.net There are hundreds of distros available to try! submitted by On3KI9oC9I7ERmJI [link] [comments]

As of today, most YouTube links are no longer allowed on r/linux as a standalone submission. Please use reddit video upload functionality, or free alternatives such as PeerTube @ https://joinpeertube.org/en/ Some exceptions are videos from large open source projects are set to be allowed by automod. Message the mods or reply in this thread if you feel something should be whitelisted. YouTube videos are also still allowed to be linked in comments or as part of a broader post (such as a video demo of related content). Additionally, you can post YouTube mirrors of content in the comments. There are various reasons that led to this decision: YouTube uses a lot of non-free software Most YouTube videos posted here are spam Lots of YouTube videos are also not even on topic or are a meme PeerTube and free software has matured enough to push it over YouTube Other video sources are currently allowed, although please do consider free software such as the previously mentioned PeerTube. Hi there: Linode employee here. I'm not familiar with Windows machines, but I did a search for the error message that you posted. The suggested workaround from this post I found suggests using WinSCP, which is, despite the same, a SFTP client.
Linode has a deprecated guide for using WinSCP that may be helpful: - https://www.linode.com/docs/tools-reference/file-transfer/transfer-files-with-winscp-on-windows/
(deprecated meaning we're no longer maintaining it, thought it was last updated June 1, 2018)
I hope this is helpful!
You can also use Binfer for large file share. Binfer transfers files directly between devices without using clouds. Binfer protects transfers with 256-bit encryption. By bypassing clouds Binfer reduces delivery time in half. Find out more here https://www.binfer.com

A serious zero-day vulnerability has been disclosed in Zoom video conferencing app on the Mac. Security researcher Jonathan Leitschuh, in a Medium post, detailed the flaw that could let websites hijack your Mac‘s camera and “forcibly” join you to a Zoom call without your permission. About four million of Zoom’s users are on Mac. The way the vulnerability works is as follows. Zoom gives users an easy way to dial into video conference calls with the tap of a link — something like https://zoom.us/j/999999999, where ‘999999999’ is a random 9-digit meeting ID that expires once the meeting ends. This Zoom… This story continues at The Next Web

I have an Amazon VPS where I need to be running VPN because of some software I am using. The thing is, when VPN is off, I can normally connect to the VPS. But when I turn on the VPN, I can't connect to the VPS Anymore. I understand sh*t about networking, but I guess the VPN overwrites the original IP, but since I am still trying to connect to the original IP, it doesn't allow me to. I am using Remote Desktop Connection and NordVPN on the VPS. Do you have any suggestions on how I could go about this? Cheers, Vasary

There’s a very large overlap between readers of this website and listeners of my podcast. But if you don’t listen to my show regularly, that’s fine with me. But I really think this latest episode is a good one. As soon as I got done writing my initial thoughts on Jony Ive leaving Apple, I started thinking about doing a podcast about it, and my first thought was to have Ben Thompson as my guest. It turned out great, largely thanks to Ben’s insight and observations. Brought to you by these fine sponsors: Squarespace: Make your next move. Use code talkshow for 10% off your first order. Ok, so here's the situation. I consult on several projects, and some require me to connect to their VPN before I can access their servers. The problem is that when I connect to the VPN for this particular client it cuts off connection to many of my work resources (Sharepoint, Outlook, Skype, and most importantly Pandora) YEARS ago, I had a similar issue, and my buddy added a route so that only traffic to their site/server went through the VPN. Problem is that I have no idea how he did it. I looked up some stuff on the MS sites and tried to add routes, but it doesn't seem to be working. Here's what I have. C:\Users\Dizzy>route print =========================================================================== Interface List aa 14 2e 52 b5 ......Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (2) I218-V 16...00 ff d9 d6 21 c7 -NordVPN Windows Adapter V9 14...00 00 00 05 5c 8e AX88772B USB2.0 to Fast Ethernet Adapter 32...........................Blackhawk 1...........................Software Loopback Interface 1 =========================================================================== I used "route -p" to try to add a persistent route, which is what I thought I needed. When connected the server IP I connect to is 172.17.15.243. So now I have this: =========================================================================== Persistent Routes: Network Address Netmask Gateway Address Metric 172.17.15.243 255.255.255.0 On-link 1 172.17.15.0 255.255.255.0 On-link 1 =========================================================================== That doesn't seem to work as I am still unable to access Skype or Pandora. At this point I don't know if I set something up incorrectly, or what. One thing I did notice is that last night the interface was #29, and now it's #32
