Integrated Intel on a slightly older? laptop, it might struggle on the lowest settings. I don't know, but my FPS isn't good at the lowest settings if I even play above 800x600. Toshiba with Windows 8.1, x64 OS, 16 GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics. I guess it depends on how well your card handles 3D rendering.

Uhmmm. Actually I'm more of a software guy. I know how to use "Can I Run It?", but that's pretty much all I know about hardware, sorry.
EDIT: Can You RUN It
If you're talking about the rightmost area here it's because the only way up there isn't heavily patrolled. It's probably one of the safest places in the game to build.
If you're looking for a fight I'd suggest building a small base left of the cliff in the more open area, because they will be able to reach you a lot easier. If you build a bridge over the river at the bottom, patrols will cross it and come search you.
From what I've found from google you have a intel i3 or i5 with integrated videocard. Which means it probably won't run (good) :S
well i have 150 days + experience , so , here give some good spots to get raid by these bastards in black circles you will get them everytime , unlimited in hard mode http://www.imagebam.com/image/ddbdcd565373813
To answer your last question first: if you're outside of draw distance, cannibals will not destroy your base. So, if you see a big group of creepy mutants and fire throwers or whatever and you know you can't fight them all, your best bet is typically to run away. I recommend building near the sea or river and having a raft ready for that exact purpose. Or a zipline that carries you far enough away for them to not draw in.
On the topic of bases, I tend to have one main base and then "outposts." Basically, when exploring a new area I put a tree platform in a tree, put a one- or two-high stone wall with a wooden fence on top around the base of the tree to prevent mutants from attacking the tree itself (and to give you the ability to shoot them when they're standing at the fence staring up at you on the platform), then place a hunting shelter, a bench, a fire, a water collector, and a drying rack on the platform itself. If it's a more permanent outpost, I'll also put a small garden beneath the tree and grow some blueberries, and also a log holder and stick holder. Maybe a birdhouse if I have a spare log lying around. Here's a basic example of what I'm talking about.
These outposts aren't going to stand up against a sustained creepy mutant attack, but they're quick to build and they're defensible enough to defend against your average early- to mid-game war party. You can also put up some Deadfall or noose traps around it to further bolster your defenses. I particularly recommend Deadfall traps, since they're only three logs and some sticks and are quite effective.
I have multiple bases for this reason. My main base is quiet and peaceful, and has never been attack en masse (the few times a scout has spotted it I've killed them before they could flee), and it's where I go to fix up my armor, grow blueberries and other crops, etc. Then I have a number of other bases specifically in hot zones so I can harvest bones, test traps, and the like.
I, uh, I also built this base: http://imgbox.com/BnjYdmZC
Yes, that's Main Village. Yes, I built literally on top of it. Yes, it gets attacked pretty much 24/7. That was one of the rare screens I have of it NOT swarming with Cannibals, in fact. I built it out of pure spite after they knocked me out and dragged me into the cave.
I really don't like the way you pull people to this thread by faking a delay. Even though it's just for fun. Alas, just to be helpful, The Forest' requirements have been loaded into Can You RUN It, so you can check it there.
Global countdown for the release
Credits to whoever posted this yesterday. It's been a lot of help on answering people with questions like yours.
