I wonder whether the pictographs on the cabin wall (where Patti is imprisoned) were intended to make us think of a cave. It could be a reference to Plato's Allegory of the Cave. They could be reinforcing that there is a higher order of reality that we and the main characters can't see. Kevin Senior and Dean may be the first escapees now trying to rescue the others. If so, we might also understand that Patti and the GR are just as unenlightened as the others, as she is clearly a prisoner in the cabin scene.
Fake ninja edit: While writing this comment, I searched for others suggesting this connection and found a podcast. About 3/4 of the way through, he points out parallels he sees in Episode 7 to Plato's Cave.
People need to get busy ... ;-)

There may be a little on tumblr, too. But in general there's virtually none out there.
> They could be martyrs if someone killed them. But you say they might have committed suicide. That wouldn't qualify.
'The term may also refer to anyone who sacrifices his life or something of great value for the sake of principle.'
I too love "The Quality of Mercy" and the entire Leftovers soundtrack. It has taken over my listening life these past few months since I started watching the show. In exploring Max Richter's music I found this mix of "On the nature of daylight" and "This Bitter Earth" by Dinah Washington. It moves me like nothing else I have ever heard: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=jXHGoaEtmFM&feature=share
About Tom: I wonder if Michael (his biodad) is going to play a role, given the title of the episode and especially if you think Kevin's dream was a prophecy. Do we know whether Michael departed? If he's a leftover and the rest of the family is gone, maybe there's a place for Laurie and Tom in his home... something to consider anyway.
You can check out GIMP, open source image editor that lets you do most of the same stuff. As to the effect, you're basically going to make three "layers" of images, select your outline in the top layer and erase it. Should give you the effect you are looking for, good luck!
A volcanic eruption on the Greek island of Thera (now Santorini), which occurred sometime around 1600 B.C., could be responsible for felling the Minoan civilization in one cataclysmic swoop. Archeologists later ruled that out by determining that the Minoans existed in Crete long after the volcano erupted. Some people assume that they were wiped out by invading forces. Other theories suggest the Minoan civilization had simply exceeded its environmental carrying capacity and died off. Whatever the cause, many historians believe the myth of Atlantis to be an exaggeration of Minoan civilization, some theorists believe them one in the same (http://www.ancient.eu/article/132/). Regardless, the stories of the Minoans and Atlantis are connected. Maybe I'm going too far down the rabbit hole here, but the Nat Geo article about the spiders that live underwater juxtaposed with the Minoans seems like an obvious point towards Atlantis and all of its mystery and wonder.
Are the survivors the last of the Minoans, broken and shattered, waiting to die off from lack of resources, while the departed are "chosen", residing eternally in some heaven-version of Atlantis?
Or are Atlantis and the Minoan civilization one in the same, and those that made it through the departure the "chosen", lucky ones, given more time, while the departed unluckily turned to metaphorical ashes as they return to nothingness?
Could be a placeholder– that's pretty common for tv/movie/video game releases. I guess we'll see!
Edit: Looks like it could be official– it's listed on Amazon.
