theres an ok game called defendless on kongregate, it utilizes mazing and checkpoints that monsters have to pass through before they get to the end. its the closest thing ive ever found to a wc3 td http://www.kongregate.com/games/flashist/defendless

I know i'm 2 months late, but me & some friends recently released an endless, free-to-play, offlineable Tower Defense on android. It is called Kids Not Hallowed, and though I confess that it still is a little bit rough around the edges, it already has quite some content & we'd love to get some feedback in order to improve it.

You might like Geometry Defense TD, it has an endless mode that is pretty customizable and a campaign mode that isn’t necessarily linear.

i can recommend infinite tower defense

its endless mode only with preset maps (10 i think) which need to be unlocked by beating a certain number of waves in previous maps and paying in game currency

it has a pretty big upgrade tree, which also is used to unlock new towers. The upgrades are pretty generic though (increase dmg, range, atkspeed, utility, etc..)

the towers gain levels during a map, which increases a towers unique stat. you can additionally increase one of the 3 basic stat (range, dmg, atkapeed) and a tower specific stat (like stun chance, rotation speed, chain lightning dmg)

there are also tile specific buffs for your towers

finally you get ingame currency and tiles after a run.

with the tiles you can create your own map to play, which is really nice. even better is the fact that you still earn ingame currency and tiles while doing custom maps

the game is still 'young' so the balancing kinda feels a bit off (upgrade costs for 'better' towers are so high, that its more efficient to just spam the basic tower and one or two utility) maybe im just a scrub and dont know how to play/am not progressed far enough to utilize the 'better' towers

Not sure if these were ever browser games, but it sounds a lot like one of these Android games. Maybe one was based on the browser game?
