I am taking it with Dorodchi and we haven't even started coding yet. I have no idea what's going on in this class, but I think it's gone to shit since Illson left.
If you're looking for Ruby practice, here's some.
Can agree, my friend has this lamp from IKEA (https://www.amazon.com/IKEA-STORUMAN-603-586-28-Table-Lamp/dp/B076YH6VL4) and it gives his room a vibe on another level of chill. Highly recommend. Make sure to get a warm-colored bulb.
You probably couldn’t find anything on ratemyprofessor for Todd Koonts and that’s because some teach at CPCC. So you got to check the CPCC section on it sometimes to see if you can find reviews for select professors. :)

By the looks of it...he seems like a good and nice professor for this class.
Hey, I'm in that class too. If you have trouble with the logic portion of the labs try out leetcode. They have very similar problems and you can see different explanations and the way people go about solving things. It's honestly not so much about knowing Ruby per se since you can always just google "how to iterate over a hashmap" and such.
I recommend getting like a teacher-y name tag holder type thing if the little card slot piece isn’t working for you and you want to keep it on a lanyard.

For what it’s worth, Zoom isn’t great either.

(Not saying that WebEx is better)
I know everyone has already said great things about the other professors but... Justin Cary is better then all the rest. He divides up the work load, gives you great advice, and makes the class actually enjoyable. I’d love to say it’s an easy A (Which it is) but once you experience Justin’s enthusiasm you’ll want to put in the extra effort.
Unlike other UWrites, you’ll be using some kind of technology every class to learn about writing techniques and styles. From Twitter to tumblr to name a few. I just wish he taught other courses so I could take his class again tbh. 12/10 Professor.
1) First, check http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ to see what others have said about your professors. Adjust your schedule as needed.
2) If a class you want is already full, you could try emailing the professor and ask nicely and professionally if they would be willing to give you a permit. If approved, the permit will allow you to sign up for the class, even though it is technically full. You may also want to add yourself to a waitlist, if the class has one.
3) If you find you are not able to change your schedule, I would still email the professor and ask if you can just sit in. If it is a huge class though (100+), they probably wont even notice you. Even still, you should absolutely be attending the class you are officially signed up for, whether you like the professor or not. You would need to attend both classes.
It actually is possible, repetitive exposure of soft drinks and acidic drinks eats away the enamel on our teeth. My GF actually had to get surgery on hers because of the way she use to drink. Straws help with that if you use then correctly. It just comes down too reducing the time drinks are on your teeth.
I recommend learning some of the basics to Ruby, time allowing, before you start Software Engineering. Watson doesn't teach it, but part of your grade early on is doing the SoloLearn courses for the language, which don't take a lot of time and will help you with some of the earlier coding assignments.
Also, make sure you have a Cloud9 account ready to go, as you'll need it for Software Engineering and possibly Operating Systems (I had a different professor, but I believe they have similar curricula).
Good luck!
Light Rail: amazing. Never had a problem.
Buses: hit or miss, usually late. After church one day I was going to ride one at 1:41 pm back to the Light Rail station. It never came. Not even late, just never showed up. Other than that, they can be used, just do not rely on them for anything important. Or, if you have too, plan to be early early. I arrive at church each Sunday 1 hour before it starts.
Also: download the Transit App Android or Transit App Apple. Once you set your location it is well worth having.
A small fire resistant lock box to keep some items/papers semi secure. The lock is only good for keeping honest people honest, but better than nothing.

Great condition, I opened it about as much as you would expect (Anywhere from rather little to not enough). I got it for cheaper than what Amazon says now at the Bookstore of all things so 10 bucks OBO
I got a cheap one from amazon. I cannot vouch for the uncc one but the one I got is very nice and gives you great sleep.
Haven't bought yet but that seems to be the best rated and most popular on Amazon. In the end they're all designed to shoot water at your ass so the only really difference in most is the dial lol.

In addition to the panic stations, there is an app that UNCC uses, as well as many other Universities, called LiveSafe on Google Play. Pretty sure there is an iOS equivalent but I can't seem to find it. Anyway, this app provides an option to press one button to call for help either via 911 or to Campus Police. Calling for help will send your GPS location to the police as soon as you press the button.
This app will also allow you to send anonymous tips to Campus Police if you see something happening that you think shouldn't be but don't want to give away your identity.
If you have your own shower as opposed to communal, maybe consider installing a water-softening filter. I have this one and it seems to help with my sensitive skin. It’s easy to install and remove and doesn’t damage anything.
Try to go to zoom.us and sign in using your UNCC email address. The lo in with Google option should work (if it doesn't try to sign in manually) and will take you to all of your meetings. After that, sign out and sign into your UNCC email on the Zoom application itself, then try to join the meeting again using the information the professor provided.
Thanks, 3D printing is awesome. I wanted to take my printer to school this semester, but I decided against it since it is a pain to disassemble and reassemble for transport, plus with my luck, they're just going to send us home soon. 3D printing is pretty neat, though. It's a 3 step process. Step one is to design a 3D model using computer aided design (CAD) software. Then, you send the model to a slicer program that slices up the model into layers, since 3D printers print in layers. The sliced model is converted into gCode, which is just instructions that tell the printer where to move, how hot to get, where to print, ect. Lastly, the sliced file is then given to a 3D printer, which after some time, will print out the the object. If you're interested in learning more about the 3D printing process, I recommend checking out r/3Dprinting or stopping by the Makerspace up in Area49 in Atkins. they have a bunch of 3D printers up there and they'd love to help teach others. There are also a bunch of CAD programs for beginners. I recommend TinkerCAD! which is free to use and easy to get the hang of.
your skulls are not accurate buddy

If anyones curious, I frequently locked up my $1600 electric scooter at bike racks around campus (and greater Charlotte) for three years, never stolen.
This is my lock. Highly recommended.
Some concepts should transfer over fine (conditions, basic loops, etc), but Python and Java are very different programming languages, Python is dynamically typed and interpreted, Java is statically typed and compiled. There are number of basic syntactical differences, such as lists and for loops which could trip you up when starting ITSC 1213 if you do not learn them ahead of time.
I would recommend taking this sololearn course up to and including the arrays section. Arrays in Java are quite different than lists in python so that is definitely something you want to learn. You can also try Codecademy if you want more practice / a different course. If you finish all of that and feel like you want some practice with Java, I recommend checking out Coding Bat and just trying out some of the exercises there.
I am going to sound like a broken record here, but utilize your resources early! Go to your TAs' office hours early and/or book an appointment with the CCI Tutoring Center using Connect. If you, for instance, bring a concept you want to work on or a Coding Bat problem, our tutors would be glad to help you through it. Remember than you can start booking appointments as early as tomorrow on Monday. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions about anything.
RIGHT AT THE BASE, YOU CANT FOOL ME WITH YOUR TRICKERY! THE X AND Y DIRECTIONAL VELOCITIES ARENT RELATED! HAHA

If you can afford it -- a good hepa air purifier. On top of that, air filters like these:
Too bad CPAP machines are expensive, as I’d suggest using one of those to help filter the air you breath while you sleep.
But a more reasonable life hack may be to go get an air filter for Lowe’s (cheap is fine) and some duct tape. Tape the filter over your air vent.
Or get one made specifically for this purpose from Amazon.
Either way, it should help reduce dust and allergens.
i wouldn’t say loft (they don’t allow that for some reason), but buy bed risers from amazon, i found them really useful. +1 on the ottoman as well
Got two 10ft cables with power surge protectors and six outlets each for a bit over 20 bucks altogether https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082JHB9PP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I had one in my bedroom freshman year and again sophomore year before I decided to get rid of it. I had a 2x2 and used two of the cubbies for books and the other two for the bins. It might take up too much room if you share a bedroom with someone (like in Scott with a wardrobe, desk, and bed) but it was fine in my suite style 4 person 4 bedroom dorm. Umm like I wouldn’t say it was garbage but it wasn’t worth the hassle of moving it in and out of dorms. If you have an actual closet in your room, you can get one that fits in it and that would be pretty nifty but only if you’re willing to suffer the emotional toll of transporting the thing. Like you expect it to be heavy but omg it actually is. Another alternative is this thing that is made of metal, a bit more compact and lighter to carry.
these are what I got. I got 2 sets of 4 but ended up setting them up like 3 sets of 3 so they’re not so tall. I used one as a night stand and put 2 by my fridge.
No problem! CATS definitely has issues but since its free and gets me where I need to go, I can generally overlook most of them if they’re working to adress them.
A fantastic app to sort of navigate with CATS is transit. Totally free, looks great and will show routes/detours/how to get from point A to B and will even tell you where to get off and what your connection is in real time!
Plus bikes/scooters/rideshare etc.
I checked amazon they have a few copies left but you probably wont get it tomorrow if you cant find it anywhere else
