You should be able to play ps4 games on the ps5 just fine with a ps4 controller plugged into the xim. You can’t play ps5 games with a ps4 controller plugged in, because of backwards compatibility issues. If you want to play ps5 games with a xim, then you need to plug in a 3rd party controller. I think the cheapest 3rd party controller is the hori mini gamepad for like $30 USD. https://www.amazon.com/Mini-Wired-Gamepad-HORI-playstation-4/dp/B01A6MKVAA
Actually it looks like people caught on and increased the price.
This was $10 so maybe you can find it elsewhere cheaper.

Are you aware that this Officially licensed peripheral exists which does the same thing?
hope im not too late, but i agree with any of the mouse suggestions below BUT i highly reccoment you check out this keyboard, its meant for gaming, Low price but HIGH quality keypad, it has cherry mx Blue mechanical switches ( He will love them) and its only the left side of the keyboard, as he isnt going to need a whole keyboard because the xim doesnt work as a keyboard anyways it emulates the functions of a controller. i didnt trust the price on this and expected some junk, literally stopped using my keyboard that was 3 times the price. it also doesnt take up as much room so he has more room for his mouse to aim comfortably! i swear the xim needs to buy this keyboard off the company and include in their kit, every xim player should have this Click here for amazon link if youre not impressed with its performance return it and ill delete my account this is the one time you get more then what you pay for lol
You need this….I forget the model number
https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-One-Wireless-Controller-Without-Bluetooth/dp/B00YJJ0OQS
Plug zen into console and then plug the XIM into the front left port on zen. Then connect the xim hub and mouse and keyboard as you normally would along with authentication controller.
No more disconnects.
Hey u/Mr-TeaBag-UT_PE (or anyone else), Do you know if a bluetooth dongle will connect the Xim and an Xbox One controller? Something like this plugged into the xim along with the M&K? If so, any pro tips on making it work?
TIA!
Yea, but wired is always "better".
Iirc wired you can even get sub 1ms input lag. It really comes down to if you want to buy additional hardware or not
However the beloader requires a certain chip to be in the USB hub with built in ethernet so you don't just want to buy one without checking to see if it works.
this is the one i have that is compatible
This one looks like a good choice. Universal Powered USB Hub, BYEASY Aluminum 3 Ports USB 3.0 Hub and 1 USB Smart Charging Port with Power Adapter, Slim USB Splitter for iMac Pro, MacBook Air/Mini, PS5, Surface Pro, Notebook PC, HDD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M91R8PN/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_4SHZRV1GFCJMQQX8SPHF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I use this one.
Vantec 7-Port USB 3.0 Hub, Aluminum, Full Powered, Mountable, with All Ports Data & Charging Up to 1.5A, BC 1.2, Premium 12V/3A, 36W Power Adapter (UG https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NX1NKXV/ref=cm_sw_r_apanp_m2dpCYmLMoadW
Should work. Could always return it? I use thisWorks great.
Huh? The wired hori controller?
AC adapter meaning an actual power adapter that you actually plug into the wall for electricity. I ended up getting an entirely new powered usb 3.0 hub that i use instead of the one that the XIM came with and it solved all of my power issues.
For something like just the AC adapter something like this.
This is what i use for my apex though.
Anker 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub, Ultra-Slim Data USB Hub with 2 ft Extended Cable [Charging Not Supported], for MacBook, Mac Pro, Mac mini, iMac, Surface Pro, XPS, PC, Flash Drive, Mobile HDD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L32B9C2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3P5PP9CJYX7F4QAWDY2T
I use that to connect 2 hard drives and a wireless usb receiver for a headset. That frees up USB ports on the console to directly plug in the Xim
If it doesn't mention data then it probably doesn't transfer it.
Personally, I'd go with something like this (which is also a lot cheaper).
I'm getting this mouse and keyboard, are they both good and compatible??
It should be a data cable. I actually bought this kit 2 years ago: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0092ZEILQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I don't use the battery pack and instead connect my controller directly into the console. The LED does not turn on but I am able to use it as a data cable, if I am understanding it correctly. If this cable is bad, do you have recommendations of good cables?
It should work. I myself got this one. I haven't had one issue since purchasing it and can even charge random stuff while using the xim with NO issue.
I have it. Like it better than the Logitech G Pro Wireless too.
I run it wired and at 10K because I play with Sync Off.
Smooth edit: If you run wired, I recommend getting a powered USB Data Hub . Just so your mouse’s battery doesn’t die midgame.
Have you tried using a 3.5mm ground loop? They're relatively inexpensive online. I had static issues as well and this cleared it up.
I forgot how to shorten a link. I've been away from reddit for too long.

Glad you got it resolved. ;)
Also, for future reference- from the sound of it, your damage is apart of a very common thing to happen with XIM Apex, and dongles in general. Having a skinny, thin metal/plastic piece hanging off a console is generally a bad idea, and poor engineering if I say so myself.
To remedy this and prevent further potential damage a USB extension cable is PERFECT for this. I took the liberty of hunting one down, but they are fairly cheap and easy to find on Amazon.
G-wolves skoll for g502 sized mouse but lightweight, model o for smaller.
I use a $40 Mech keyboard from Amazon.

Feels just as nice as my ducky
This is what I use but it does not come with a power adapter. If you want one with the adapter and hub, I recommend the first link from BestBuy b/c Insginia makes great stuff for the price.
On the incredibly rare occurrences I even play a game with a mouse in bed I use the same lapdesk I use for my couch.
Pretty much this.
Honey-Can-Do TBL-02869 Portable Laptop Lap Desk with Handle, Black, 23 L x 16 W x 2.5 H https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FQK13XM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WGf7CbH5HX4NS
Can you post up the config files for the game? That way users can simply drop them in?
On a side note, I have thought about adding something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Numeric-Backlit-Desktop-Computer/dp/B07FFLNF5C/ref=sr_1_22_sspa?keywords=keypad&qid=1558538728&s=gateway&sr=8-22-spons&psc=1 for quick swapping profiles. A dedicated device.
I use a wireless keyboard and mouse along with the lapboard. Works create. Also the cable i have for my controler reaches and i plug my headset in that way. I use the CORSAIR K63 with lapboard that can be found on amazonhttps://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-Wireless-Mechanical-Keyboard-Lapboard/dp/B078233TKB/ref=asc_df_B078233TKB/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=242166847606&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3390357209174046819&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007592&hvtargid=pla-434123418206&psc=1
The isolator only should do the trick. I want to say I got it off Amazon.
Edit: Here is the one I used Mpow Ground Loop Noise Isolator for Car Audio/Home Stereo System with 3.5mm Audio Cable (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019393MV2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_vWdnCb5EV24V2
Is this the same keyboard by chance?
What you need is called a KVM. It splits the cables to connect to source A or B (or more). It only communicates with one at a time. One of those usb cables in the link would go straight to your apex, skip the hub it came with.
