I'm pretty sure I'm not alone when I say this but Andrew Yang's message clicked with me almost immediately. It's no coincidence when a politician posts 100+ policies and a majority of them matches with your view.
I remember very early on Andrews bid for presidency was front page of /r/futurology. I think it is very important to maintain the effort to be inclusive and convert new voters. But I'm sure there are still a huge number of people that didn't need any convincing but just haven't heard of Andrew's campaign.
One thing that really struck me when hearing Andrew speak on Freakonomics was that this guy actually respects the academia aspect of Economics. Instead of the average politician that panders by regurgitating highschool level macroecon concepts, this guy seemed to actually understand what he's talking about. So I bought his book: https://www.amazon.com/War-Normal-People-Disappearing-Universal/dp/0316414247
And that was really what put me on 100% for Yang. If you guys haven't read this already, I highly recommend it. If Andrew was writing stuff like this when I was in school, it would've influenced all my research.
The strategy of pushing tiny snippets of Yang to the mainstream like his interviews or listing his top 10 views is great. But Yang is more than that. He has actual substance that most other candidates lack. So for the "research" phase of this post, one of the first steps should be to read this book!
I'm not sure how we can get this book into more hands? Are there political book clubs? Can we get this on more must read lists?
>Now, here in the Suburban, as we crossed the Broad River, I brought up “Rex and Lex.” That’s what Yang named his pecs, “Rex” for the right, “Lex” for the left, when he was lifting all those weights. I knew about this because he wrote about in his other, earlier book, Smart People Should Build Things. He “could jostle them on command,” he had written, “to make them ‘talk.’” Obviously, I wanted to hear more.
>
>Yang obliged. Having shed his blue sport coat, he looked down at his chest, and he … channeled “Rex.”
>
>“He’s, like, almost mute,” he said, “but he’s still like”—and here the candidate for president made his dad-bod-dormant pectoralis undulate under his checked, collared shirt and assumed a diminutive, sing-song cadence—“‘Andrew, I still have a little bit of voice left. You haven’t fed me in a long time. You used to looooove meeeeeee.’”
>
>Zach Graumann, Yang’s 31-year-old campaign manager, looked some combination of mesmerized and mortified. “You’re such a tool,” he said.
>
>Yang was undeterred. He was on a roll. He turned his attention to “Lex.”
>
>“Oh man,” he lamented, “Lex is wimpier than Rex!”
>
>Everybody inside the Suburban laughed and laughed.
HAHAHA
Ir reminds me of that one cycling anime where the cycle dude would talk to his abs. LOL
Coddling of the American Mind is a really good book. very much in the same vein as Andrew's book.
>The key is the ground game. If everyone active on this subreddit was canvassing their towns for 2-3 hours a week we could have this in the bag. It takes action, though.
Exactly 100% correct. See Obama in 2008 and 2012. Here is a great book on GOTV, btw, revised in the fall of 2019.

You are right ubi is not a panacea, it is a floor to build upon with other policies.
This is why yang has 130+ on his website that DO actually attack inequalities and inefficiencies in our system one by one. Yang focuses on the FD because it is the easiest thing to do in a single term as president -- It doesn't require a supermajority in the house and has bipartisan appeal, making it incredibly easy to implement quickly.
And ubi does help in certain things like unionizing which DO help with inequalities, collective bargaining is one of the greatest tools available to the precariat and is something that is much easier to accomplish when you don't have to ever worry about starving to death.
You can read the book Raising The Floor by Andy Stern to learn more about it, he is the former president of one of the largest unions in the entire country the SEIU.

If Yang doesn't make the polls don't get mad at NBC, CNN or the DNC. We only have ourselves to blame.
Is your response rooted in the belief that private health insurance is the sole reason for high cost of care? If so, please join me in reading An American Sickness. I'm reading it now and I'm learning that private health insurance doesn't nearly hold all the blame and it seems Bernie and others have been using them as some sort of scapegoat.
The reason behind high costs of healthcare falls on hospitals profiting, doctors incentivized to recommend expensive care, and regulations behind drug research that drive up those costs.
Edit: Insurance is also a factor. But it's a small part of the whole equation.
From what I understand there are four main cost drivers that have made colleges today so expensive:
1) Decreased state support: Over the years, most states have lowered their financial support to universities relative to inflation. Schools have countered by raising tuition.
2) Administrative bloat: Yang describes this very well, and it's very real. You can google it and find any number of articles. Here's one: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/higher-ed-administrators-growth_n_4738584
3) Arms race for top students: Many of the top colleges today are very plush compared to two or three decades ago. Classrooms are kitted out in the latest tech, and the campus and dorms feature tons of amenities. They do this to attract the best students. Colleges want prestige, and one of the best ways to boost prestige and rankings is to have the best students. Of course, all of these niceties need to come from somewhere.
4) Easy access to loans: All of this is made possible by the ease of access to loans.
Republicans want to attack issue $4, but how do you do it without disproportionately hurting poor people?
Yang wants to attack issue #2. In theory it should help.
The War on Normal People. It has little to nothing to do with his candidacy FYI, mostly just about how bad the situation is for regular Americans (from multiple perspectives) and how much worse it is about to get. Highly recommend
Edit: also I believe there's a free audio version out there if you don't want to buy!
Her book is not published yet. Based on amazon it will publish on May 4th, 2021 https://www.amazon.com/Today-Day-Tulsi-Gabbard-ebook/dp/B07J6J1D1H/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=
>She's also intrigued about the idea of UBI but isn't necessarily 100% sold on it as far as I can tell.
She is, and I think that’s one of the big reasons why she supports Yang. She wrote a book supporting the need for UBI before Yang’s book was released. She was also asked by Yang to review his book before publishing. Krystal is all about helping the white working class, who are often overlooked and left behind. She brought him on her show when she was with MSNBC and Yang worked at VFA, since he was helping create jobs in these disenfranchised areas that she’s concerned about. So she already had an affinity for him, wanting him to succeed, especially as an outside underdog. They both have the same interests in mind.
Krystal has a personal soft spot for Bernie, though, that she and many others can’t let go. She was really invested in 2016, even going on a campaign tour with him. There’s a reason why she didn’t pick a side with the UBI vs FJG discussion, even though she wrote a book explaining the need for UBI.
I STRONGLY recommend reading his book, AI Superpowers: China, Silicon Valley, and the New World Order. https://www.amazon.com/AI-Superpowers-China-Silicon-Valley/dp/132854639X

Also, I think that Kai-fu Lee would make an excellent US Ambassador to China under President Yang
It is the OG scarf!
You can get it here
The price has gone up a couple bucks since Yang popularized it.
Not true. There are many many well-known examples of us interfering in foreign elections. Read Michael J Sullivan’s American Adventurism Abroad for some examples.
Yang was intentionally not naming specific examples because they will then become a focus for his opponents. Yang is a legitimate genius, is well-educated, and pays attention to the news, so there is no way he didn’t know an example.
Trump had an idea like this about regulations and it's actually one of the few things I have liked from him.
The accumulated deadwood of all the past laws and regulations we've made over the last 2 centuries weighs down our legal system, economy and society tremendously.
Anyone ever heard of 'The Rise and Decline of Nations' by Mancur Olson? A pivotal text in economics, here's a quote from a summary:
> As a society becomes more successful, advanced and stable it's institutions become more complex and invariably start to turn the favourable stability into undesirable rigidity. Legislation starts to mushroom along with the people who create and administer it and somehow the society finds that the achievements of it's youth are no longer possible.
Fun fact: this was actually the first talk I ever gave aside from my valedictory speech back when I graduated high school. It was an incredible honor to be asked to speak on stage right before Robert Reich took the stage, who was then followed by Joseph Stiglitz. I felt like an opener for the economic Rolling Stones or something.
If you want to see the slides I made for this, here you go.

For context, there is a app where if you answer some questions you get points for your candidate. Whoever gets the most points by January 29th will win a shit ton of money! The android version.
Adam Carolla given [1] he essentially endorsed Yang on his popular OG podcast (https://castbox.fm/episode/ACS-(Part-2)%3A-Todd-Garner-id6927-id153136689 around 10:40 mark) and [2] he's best friends with Jimmy Kimmel.
This type of manipulation is definitely happening. Right now Pete, like Trump last year, is getting a ton of free press out of nowhere.
If the status quo doesn't want you to rise they'll keep you down. Read about what happened to Larry Lessig in the previous presidential primary run. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/the-democrats-have-now-ch_b_8445202

Dude, if you get the one with nylon fabric, like the waterproof painters cap here I will buy !!!!!
I like how you're thinking positive, but I also realize it's not easy right now to show that Yang's a front runner to regular people who haven't heard of Yang or his policies yet.
Personally I'd say he's quickly advancing, and a top ten candidate right now. Various opinion pieces already rank him in the top 10.
I'd also point out that Trump in 2016 wasn't taken seriously by people or the media... until it was obvious he was winning in polls and votes.

I think some of these people live inside an Ego bubble supported by all the yes people they surround themselves with.
Yes. There is a web search engine that I believe harvests your data to plant trees. https://www.ecosia.org
We would basically need to set that up, and have everyone use it in stead of google and the managing entity basically uses the money to donate to Yang. It would be one of those High energy Input/low energy output situations but yes, it’s possible.

If you're a fan of podcasts you should check out https://anchor.fm/movingforward/episodes/0-The-Conservative-Case-for-Andrew-Yang-e3uedh - a bona fide conservative and progressive sit down together and talk about Yang's policies in a structured and fun way. They're a great duo and to me a perfect example of Yang not unifying us but showing us that we were never all that divided in the first place. :)

Here's the thing man, I can't speak for everyone on the left but as someone who identifies hard left/libertarian I also agree with basically everything you said. I'm not even joking. So much of all of this comes down to simply different approaches to what we all want and how we want to get there. It's the polarization, the pushing to the fringes from the authoritarian portions of the left and the right that's dividing us. If you're a podcast listener I'd *highly* recommend the Moving Forward Podcast - https://anchor.fm/movingforward/episodes/1-The-Conservative-Case-for-Andrew-Yang-e3uedh - a bona fide progressive and a conservative sit down and talk about Yang's policies and you'd be shocked to hear how much they agree with each other and that their differences really come down to nuances in how we want to get there. I've tried to open myself up more and more to conservative voices even before I found Yang (I spent a good three months binging everything I could find that Milton Friedman said or put out) and it's been really eye opening.

And personally, if you ever want to just chat about stuff, my PMs or open or you can hop on the Yang discord (linked in the sidebar) and tag me there. Welcome on board my friend.

Skip to 20.00 in and he will explain how it is a tax on producers not consumers
I think the folks at MSNBC are just so ensconced in their bubble of politics as usual. I bet if you'd asked the moderators at the debate to list the candidates in the order of polling support that they honestly would have believed Yang was #9 or #10 on the stage, not the #6 he actually was.
So just pointing out that they're being biased or suppressing Yang isn't going to convince them (or anyone else inside the politics as usual news bubble) to change their behavior or perception. We've got to lead with data and statistics every singe time.
Like the fact that anyone can do a simple regression analysis and see that any other candidate with Yang's polling numbers would have received an extra 15 minutes of speaking time (43% more) across the first five debates: https://imgpile.com/images/IIljrr.png
Hi, ComedicFish! I'm thankful for your enthusiasm! Definitely please join us at our next meetup so we can incorporate your initiative. I heard that from someone else but I couldn't find further info after googling. Yang linked the Amazon link for the book in his Twitter bio but I'm not sure if buying from that link will contribute towards campaign funds.
I was able to fill out my info using ExpressVPN (one of Yang's podcast sponsors). Maybe the VPN is configured to connect to outside of the country. I sometimes get captchas using my VPN in general, though...

But indeed, Internet privacy and personal data should be at the forefront of any Dem candidate's policy proposal.
We are getting royally fucked by the big tech companies in conjunction with surveillance organizations, such as the NSA.
We should be getting paid for our data and more importantly, we should have regulations set in place that protect us from the pervasive practices of these surveillance organizations.
Yang's acknowledgement of the issue is crucial.
Anybody here seen the JRE podcast with Edward Snowden? It will send shivers down your spine.
Naw those aren’t them, something more like this
I agree, we need to make sure Yang has a good image upon all of social media. But if we're gonna focus on making Yang look good, we should be focusing on Facebook. By far Facebook has the most users out of any other platform, and no one's focusing on it (https://thenextweb.com/contributors/2018/04/19/reddit-now-active-users-twitter-engaging-porn/) And it's the platform most popular among the demographics most likely to be polled. Compared to Facebook's base, r/politics is nothing.

Climate change being a problem of both overconsumption and overpopulation though is no joke, and all solutions to it are unpleasant besides a societal, nay global, norm of family planning.

I would vote for Zoltan if he actually gets nominated. While I fully support UBI, supporting transhumanist technology research is arguably even more important in the long run. If we have brain uploading by 2050, climate change or most other environmental issues wouldn't be a problem. Post-humans can run on non-biological substrates that use much less energy and three server farm can be hosted almost anywhere. But in the current state of politics, I don't think his ideas will get much support.
This is the ep of Singularity 1 on 1 podcast interview when he was running for president in 2016. (equivalent of Yang's Joe Rogan interview) https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-singularityfm-31027587/episode/transhumanist-zoltan-istvan-on-his-presidential-31646964/
I think a good example of this is the Brave Browser. They protect your privacy/data by default, and you can "sell" your attention by watching ads, but in return you receive a portion of the money that the tech company would otherwise be receiving by selling your data.
Not sure if Andrew Yang is already familiar with this company/browser, but it really validates his idea and there are real examples of this already. It's not just a pipe dream!

You are certainly correct about that. But this won't happen over night and people are already considering this when choosing their career.
I think the bigger reason is that when you become 55 you won't necessary have the motivation to learn new craft. I don't however think truck driver isn't smart enough to work in IT. Some of the jobs are fairly no-brainers. Even large number of programming is so easy today that you can learn to master a simple language like Python in a week or two. Hello future Yang Texters!
I have some exciting news! First and foremost, we’ll be having a training this afternoon at 4:30pm ET which you can attend here: https://zoom.us/j/877495259
Now we’ve heard you that it’s not easy for everyone to make these trainings, particularly during the workday.
So to that end…some of our Texting Support volunteers will begin taking over these trainings going forward. This will enable us to have more trainings at different times. Keep your :eyes: eyes on this channel :eyes: for many more training sessions coming up soon.
Now, many of you have also been asking why we don’t just open this up for everyone. I hear you, and I’m with you. We are limited in a few ways…
For one, we need to scale our support capacity to make sure we give everyone that becomes a  Yang texter  the experience that they deserve. We’re actively working on that right now.
Secondly, we’re only budgeted to send a certain number of Voter ID texts per month (the backbone of our texting program). This number will scale over time, but if we turned all 7700+ of you fine folks loose, that would make it likely that no one would have enough conversations to truly become proficient (as I like to say, we have a scarcity mindset by necessity). We’re working to scale the number of texts we can send a month, but this is where we are right now. Just wanted to be fully transparent with you.
I think you log into Slack, log into the dialer and also join the Zoom meeting.
There will also be the weekly volunteer Zoom meeting tonight at 9:30 https://zoom.us/j/845831901 if you'd like to attend.

Slack is an app for work communications. It's basically a glorified chat client, but it has a few other features. Organizations can create private "pages" that can have any number of chat channels and add all kinds of data, files, and various levels of privileges to help keep the chat under control. You can download the app by visiting https://slack.com/ but there is also an in browser version. Then you will get an invite link to join a specific organization's channel.

Line cooks in Detroit are already getting a starting wage of $13 on average. That's going to cut into profits for them, but it will still be a profitable business. And the money they save from emplyee retention and not having to spend on retraining will be worth it.
This is great! A while back I thought through the grouping of the policies quite a bit to highlight the ‘ecosystem of policies’ and can up with the following: https://prezi.com/view/m/Xh4ABeOQPA7W0nLQqeK0/
Might not be perfect but might help you think about how to group the policies on your own project which looks to be awesome!
DM me and I’m happy to share a more detailed categorized excel :)

Just want to link this out there to you. You can email the coordinators in your state if you want to volunteer for signatures or even ask a question such as this.
Happy yangin
The hard to ignore media coverage or lack thereof https://www.notion.so/andrewyangnotes/Media-Bias-against-Yang-588963a1122242bfaed48b2350b60d5e
The reliance on current polling systems to measure candidate.
Yang’s messaging doesn’t resonate with the people he needs to target. His main ideas are difficult to fully grasp and he’s just seen as a funny dude who makes smart remarks, not a fighter who understands your problems.
His foreign policy is not that weak imo, here are some of his stances:
https://www.notion.so/andrewyangnotes/Yang-on-Foreign-Policy-c0a5d4b0f91b43b7b4cbdafa52babcda
What people forget to realize is that he knows how to manage large organizations of people. His strategy against China is better than any other candidate imo, because he is the only candidate to understand tech.
South Korean President read his book too.
What Yang lacks is probably warfare, but I mean how hard is it to build a team around the expertise that he lacks?
To those who say just don't respond to this type of conversation, I'm with you, I too think it's a waste of time, so I'm not going to play their game like that.
But what I do love is the arguments you guys have made on here. Fantastic job everyone! I'm keeping track of this in my notes: https://www.notion.so/andrewyangnotes/UBI-The-Big-Debates-a1efe4617812444180a47a66145e3b51
Here's a few posts I've collected on DNC: https://www.notion.so/andrewyangnotes/DNC-bias-against-Yang-4a015381a6af4ddf834e6799c4a968aa

It's cold out there.
I'd love to help with Project Management! Computer science major, have done lightweight pm work along w/ previous webdev and social media roles. Also was a part of #FeelTheBern back in Boulder. I'm in Denver, CO. Notion (www.notion.so/) would be a great piece of software to use for tracking tasks, as a database, etc.
Sorry, let me clarify - I was building on your post
I was disagreeing with your main point point - that Trump voters are unwinnable deplorables. I think HRC's "other basket" point is a better way to describe them. Yang gives a huge amount of context to this in "The War on Normal People" I highly recommend reading this book. (Even if you completely disagree, the perspective will help you be more persuasive in convincing non-progressives)
Secondly, I'm trying to say the DNC might not be able to rise to the opportunity of reaching out to Trump voters given the very un-empathetic revulsion people have. It's very easy to call Trump voters racist and think ramrodding progressivism into the heartland is the way forward.
Honestly, your second post kind is kind of confirming this to me. I get the sense you are a progressive that didn't like the party choosing Biden over someone like Bernie. That's totally understandable, but I think the numbers aren't with you right now - to get enough people to win the pres, house, or senate it's the other way around.
Also, pragmatically, I think it's not gonna work - Looking back to 2008, W had booted all of the moderates out of the Republican party to ramrod his agenda through. (Another good read calling the post-W RNC fracture: It's my party too) Then Obama came along and scooped all of those people up and crushed the Republican party.
If progressives and moderates can't work together there is no path to beating Trumpism. There are literally more Trumpy Trump voters. (And vastly more "I'm just not onboard with progressivism" Trump voters.)
No never heard of it.

The cover of the above book, is what I believe the world is becoming. Virtual reality is becoming more impactful that physical reality.
This was a rare find of a UBI book....

It's kinda like UBI meets... Always Sunny In Philadelphia... or something... It's super shitty though, but has some good points.
Not sure what happened. Here's an amazon link. If you don't like amazon you can search "yanggang the robots are coming" and a few websites have it available.

I like the shirt. There should be a requirement that these posts include where to buy while supporting Yang. I looked this shirt up (quickly) and could not find anything that seemed legitimate to buy at. Here* is an Amazon page that has loads of Yang apparel and bills itself as a Yang clothing store. It looks far from legitimate. Is red bubble legit? The other sites I found?
