I think it's has the same severs as the origin version. Short answer: yeah, there are a few fully populated servers. Last time I played (january) there were about 6~10 servers with at least 12 players. My favorites: the ones with rush mode only lol

I can almost always find at least one server to play on, on PC.
As for the console versions of the game, I have no idea, but I have to advise against going console over PC in any situation. For your own good.
If your motheboard supports AM3 you should go pick up this today.
If you have an AM2 mobo, which is what I suspect, and you have to get a new mobo as well then your best option by far is the new Sandy Bridge i5. It'll OC to 4-4.5 on air easily and is a hell of a deal.
Depends on what weapon and kit setup you're using. Some guns simply don't benefit from it. Likewise, the guns that do (noticeably) also pack a decent enough punch that using mag is a false economy, the G3 being an example. Especially if you consider that if you're using the G3, for example, you will also be using C4, in which case body armour is better as it allows you to set off C4 nearer and sooner, and also negates the effects of magnum ammo from incoming fire.
Yes. This shows most servers (with real-time player data), but there are also other active servers that aren't listed here:
You can disable the built in auto level for the helicopter. Makes flying the helicopter more like it was in desert combat.
Guide is here: https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AWYg6JkZ5W4DZGhrOW1oNzZfMWY5NGdkeHF6&hl=en&pli=1
Log in to Origin with the same account info you used with BC2 multiplayer. EA converted all EA accounts into Origin accounts, so you just need to sign into whatever EA/Origin account you used when you registered the game and your game should be registered there. If you can't remember your password, start here: https://www.origin.com/account/reset-password
thank you for being honest. i hope you do spot.... i find i do it by instinct now.
have you watched this btw - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0p4fkH9qC4M
They need to put this in the game for everyone to watch.
> Yes, cones of fire (or deviation, as the game calls it) are fully accounted for. If you saw the actual positions the aimbot was aiming at the camera would be very shaky and kind of annoying to watch.
Perhaps you could help me with something: I OCR'ed a bunch of stats someone put in an infographic to a spreadsheet, and I'm thinking of making a weapon-comparison visualization. Possibly with Processing.js, or at least something vaguely interactive through a web-browser. (I'm using Orange and Excel to poke at it for now.)
What I'd like to do is present people with weapon comparisons that take into account the achievable DPS of various weapons assuming you fire them with the best rate of fire. (And what that rate-of-fire is for a given distance.)
So do you happen to know:
Are both the base deviation and the per-shot deviation measured in degrees? (Anecdotally I'd guess they're scaled up to something a bit more than that.)
At what rate does the per-shot deviation decay back to the base level level? I'm assuming it's a linear decay based on time.
In in-game meters, about how tall and wide are players' hit-boxes as seen from the front?
For reference, I've got the vanilla LMGs down with a standing base deviation of 2.5 and a per-shot deviation ranging from 0.5 to 0.7.
> it's interesting but technically difficult for a number of reasons
Isn't that the best kind of side-project? ;)
I'd love to say no there are no servers as the community really doesn't need bad tempered knuckle draggers like yourself playing.
But seeing as it only takes a google search of "bad company 2 server list" in google to find out, and in the spirit here's the list:
https://www.gametracker.com/search/bc2/AU/?
And next time, why not start the conversation with "I don't own the game, or know how to use Google" rather than coming across like a cunt.
Go to the steam store on your web browser, not steam itself. add BF:Vietnam to your cart, add in all the stuff up until you get to the page that has the button "purchase as gift", it will be greyed out. Now go to this url: https://store.steampowered.com/checkout/?purchasetype=gift and then continue on with the purchase.
Yep, it crashed. I had VLC running when I opened BC2 and instantly VLC crashed. Uninstall VLC! Use MPC-HC.
Tried the same thing and media player didn't crash when I opened BC2
I recommend you throw Tomato at the problem. You can use it on a ton of routers, and it gives you a lot of control without having to drop a couple hundred bucks on a router.
On PC you don't need the Vietnam DLC to play Vietnam maps anymore.
Servers like these exist, which have the Vietnam maps unlocked for everyone with the base game:
https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/89.163.144.174:19564/
https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/89.163.251.169:19607/
They also grant XP at 15 times the normal rate so you can unlock stuff faster.
I can almost always find at least one populated server with Vietnam maps when I want to play.

I urge you to take a look at an old RTS game called Z. Essentially, it is kind of like conquest as seen in the Battlefield series, but more with an emphasis of more zones (places/flags) to capture. Capturing specific zones yields a special vehicle that can then be built or that spawns, often ensuring an edge over the enemy. Battlefield have kind of built a bit on this kind of mode, where a tank or a helicopter spawns in only a specific area - but I feel that it can be extended a bit more. Like, people would have to plan it out, ensuring a bit more teamwork "If we get base F, with the shark with lasers, we'll leave base D open, which gives them a great weapon to destroy our shark."
Also there can be optional bases with transport and/or other types of weapons far away that is hard to get to but can prove an edge in a losing battle.
All that being said - i would like a raven for my next build.

That ping test that you're running is the ping between your PC to your ISP's DNS servers.
You will need to run the ping test to your server of choice.
So for example: the eGO 24/7 Heavy Metal 500 ticket server. Always populated. I am running this using Command Prompt. I live in Sydney, Australia for reference.

You might like the DvsH #2 | Diesel Modded | [Rush Only] server. They modded it so that you 'ride' the UAV while controlling it. It still operates the same, but when it gets shot down, your guy parachutes down from that location. Great for infiltration (provided the opposing side doesn't kill you while parachuting).
By default the PC version of BFBC2 does not support any controllers other than keyboard and mouse. Xpadder is the most reffered to option when trying to achieve console controller to PC input when no support it built in.
But trust me, you'll die a lot more with a controller on the PC. Hitboxes are very body specific (they're bigger in console games - I have BFBC2 on Xbox too) and aiming is much better with the mouse.
You might want to get a serving tray for your lap and a wireless keyboard and mouse.
Lol, we both can't provide links cause we were both using the frigged mobile app. Least they fixed the memory hangups with the most recent update.
For the record here's the links:

2- protip: A tip intended to convert a novice to an expert."
Yes. Yes it is...
I'll be sure to check it out - liking the format so far; just so long as you don't modify the scoring system. Keeping it at 50 points for a kill makes me happy.

Here's my personal experience, going from a C2D + 8800GT setup to a C2D + 460GTX and then i5 + 460GTX: ~30 FPS, ~35 FPS, ~110 FPS, respectively. Edit: That's in 1920x1200 BTW.
Not only is the game as smooth as butter even during messy firefights, my in-game latency dropped from ~140 to ~95 (as the engine takes the client's responsiveness into account).
The processor is the i5-2500K, and it's easily overclocked to 4GHz.
You'll probably get the same kind of improvement with any quad-core CPU.
TL;DR: BFBC2 makes smooth smooth love to quad-cores, go buy one.
This Samsung 27" 1 ms pretty little thing
Its a scant $20 out of your price range, but I would definitely jump for it. For me, 27" is just the right size to get girls to say, "oh my! It's huge!" However, its not like sitting in front of a TV all day. I just love it. Not many perks. Just a great deal. 1920x1080.
I found that 1920x1200 was a lot more usable for daily tasks than 1920x1080. Gaming is also a little better. I went with a Samsung 2443BW. It's 24", which seems like the sweet spot for me. US$345 though, so it's not super cheap. It does pivot sideways for coding/browsing. You probably know by now that response time, BTB and GTG, and contrast ratios are largely fudged by the manufacturers, so you shouldn't believe them at face value. Read reviews. Lots of reviews.
I bought my ASUS VK246H from one of newegg's daily deals. it was $119 with free shipping then. Unfortunately it is no longer available. It has been a great monitor for the last year.
Prices have been dropping quite a bit. I got this ASUS VH236H 23" monitor for $130 during the Black Friday sale last November.
Personally I don't know how you guys do it... Either way because of my prior experience with cod series, at least one of them used F for knife and g for grenade, so I remapped knife to F and grenade to G.
I use this mouse, with which you can change the sensitivity by pressing the the little buttons behind and in front of the scroll wheel. The buttons are part of the hardware, so you don't have to bind the buttons for any game, or install any drivers, it just works. I find this immensely useful for BC2.
There are many mice that have this feature, do yourself a favor and grab one.
I could, but the 6770 is a rebadged and ever so slightly upgraded 5770. They are about $140 canadian.
If the 560ti dips below $200CND or 6870 below $175 sans rebate I might bite.
Hmm, I guess reddit gamers don't look at benchmarks as much as I do. The performance of the two cards is nearly identical. The 5770 supports dx11 and uses much less power, so I would even say that it's the better card.
Guru3d
Tom's Hardware
Too lazy to find more but in certain games the 4870 does come out a bit faster...
Nexus are hacked servers which don't require an EA login. I think they've been around since shortly after the game came out in 2010. A nice benefit is there are no login error loops on Nexus like there are on EA, it logs in fine every time. The download link is just a tool which makes it easier to switch back and forth between Nexus and EA servers.
I only just started playing on Nexus servers in the past month, as sadly it was the only place to find an active Rush server during US evening hours. (TeamCCCP & Nemoskal modded)
How's your ping to this one in SG?
https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/139.99.124.211:19567/
The admins are in discord, we could coordinate on there to get a game going. Briefly had 16 players or so when it first launched a couple months back, but unfortunately little traction since.
A friend of mine recently suggested this BC 2 Launcher. This launcher has some options that you'd have to edit in the .cfg file. I'd highly recommend you download it and try playing with the settings. Your CPU is going to be holding you back.
I would try disabling or completely uninstalling your sound drivers and playing for an amount of time as a test since sound drivers seem to be a common factor.
After eliminating the sound card drivers, you could then move on to trying out dx9 mode to see if it's a dx10/11 issue. run BC2 in dx9 mode
If neither of those seem to affect the crashing the next culprit is your power supply as many have suggested.
Hello, owner of a single 5770, and later two crossfired 5770's here, oh and I have your exact CPU, the 965. The single card won't max the game, but it will run smoothly at the right settings and look pretty.
With the single 5770 I was able to get just about flawless 60 FPS (dropped when explosions right near me) with 1920x1200, 2x AA, 8x AF, rest of the settings on medium. Medium is still beautiful by the way, I just think the resolution and Anti-Aliasing are very important.
With two 5770's in Crossfire I was able to get just about flawless 60 FPS (only dropped when I was clusterfucked by explosions) on maximum settings. 1920x1200, 4x AA, 16x AF, everything on max. Crossfired 5770's actually slightly outperform a single 5870, SLIGHTLY.
Conclusion : That card will give you a pretty and smooth BC2 experience.
For 100$ bones on ebay its much more worth it to sli the 280. The GTX280 sli is ranked 9th on Toms Hardware GPU chart.
I'm not sure what would end up being most cost effective for you, buying an i5 now or a new mobo+sandy bridge later.
1155, thats right. I've heard that there may still be a way for the sandy bridges to work on 1156, but don't quote me on it. Those i5's are great, nothing at all wrong with them. If I were you, though, I'd wait and see for more sandy bridge info so I could make the most future-proof decision about my computer.
edit
check this out for a little more info on what to expect for the future. Tom's Hardware article
The interesting part, at least for me, in that article was the zip archive with the registry files.
Download from this link. I ran the one that altered the CAPS function over to the Scroll Lock key. Been working like a charm ever since.
Right ... I've seen it at the Exchange on base for $20 or less - for the same 360/PS3 ultimate edition.
Not only that, but it's been going for $36.99 since early February ... this is hardly something new. http://camelcamelcamel.com/Battlefield-Bad-Company-Ultimate-Xbox-360/product/B003VWGBC0?active=amazon
Still a lot of active servers, I never have a problem getting into a game. The smaller game modes such as squad rush and death match aren't super popular anymore. But there are a lot of active rush and conquest servers still up.
You can check the servers out here https://www.gametracker.com/search/bc2/?sort=c_numplayers&order=DESC
Where are you regionally? If you're in the US/Canada or can connect well enough, you should come and check out the MIG server. We always have a ton of people on teamspeak, and we have some pretty good guys and girls who can show you the ropes.
Disable the funky mouse settings that the game has by default!

When you move the mouse to the right or left, it provides constant input based on the distance from the calculated center, not based on distance traveled. This will counteract the auto-leveling. > >It is a bit hard to get used to, since your mouse is now simulating a joystick, but it's certainly better than what you had before. > >Note: This will make the UAV a bit more difficult to aim horizontally. It's a bit of a tradeoff.

The system is pretty darn stable, crashes only occur in BC2, and only recently. This is why I think the error is probably related to the sampling rate on the output for audio.
Yeah, but that comes at the cost of performance. Either route gets you a great upgrade, the 2500k will just be a sizable margin more of an upgrade. Worth it IMO, but that's just my opinion. Here are some specific benches:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/88?vs=288
2500k absolutely smokes it
Even after reading the wiki article, I am confused. The name "personal defense weapon" makes me think REMF weapons. What you give the water supply boys in case the Battle of the Bulge happens. Seems like a made up class with no clear target group.
hahaha i didn't even think about that, but it's so true.. that is hilarious, and so god damn stupid that they have it in the game at all. i fucking hate cursing someone out and it blocking me, and you can't write ANY variation of sh*t or f*ck without it somehow knowing and blocking them.
I was having really severe connection issues also, using a small Asus USN wireless N adapter. I figured it was probably the adapter being enclosed more or less in a Faraday cage made of my case and other wires, so I got a Rosewill adapter with USB extension and antenna, and it's worked much much better. Maybe that's worth a shot?
I do the same thing but with this mouse. I love how the sensitivity button is right below the trigger (left click) button.
It appears you are correct sir. I looked at Anandtech and you are correct. Thanks for the heads up!
Edit: I've got an HD 5770 and if I want to get 60FPS on the dust maps, I have to turn the graphics down quite a bit and have AA and Anisotropy down to 1x.
I know it takes long than typing max out, but it helps to define what max to you actually is. Your max is far different from someone running three monitors who wants 90+ fps at all times.
These benchmarks can show how punishing running resolutions spanning 3 monitors can be. The minimum for this setup to even be playable is atleast dual gpu.
I promise you it would. That is some powerful equipment right there.
Edit: Switch the 5770 to a 5850 and you get great framerates.

That's not a really proof, that document could have been not updated for 5 years. Proof I mean with a timestamp once every few months and maybe link to stats of active players/servers, is gametracker updated frequently? https://www.gametracker.com/search/bc2/?&sort=3&order=DESC
The FAQ has jokes and unnecessary verbosity yet do not give me proof that that it's really current information.
Yep, I play on PC and there are many full servers. Even more so these days when more people are at home.
You can check PC servers status at https://www.gametracker.com/search/bc2/?sort=3&order=DESC, as of the time of this writing (21:00 CET) there about a dozen full 32 player servers, and many smaller ones active.
The game is well worth playing on PC anyway since you get the full keyboard + mouse FPS experience.
~200 sounds about right depending on the time of day.
>Is the Steam version connected with Origin version too?
They both access the same private servers, which you can track here: https://www.gametracker.com/search/bc2/?search_by=map&sort=3&order=DESC
Make sure to click the search button in the corner when youre at the multiplayer section, common mistake. Most def servers still up: see a real time list here: https://www.gametracker.com/search/bc2/?&sort=3&order=DESC
A majority of the active servers are in Germany & France (link), thus European afternoon/evening hours is the busiest time frame, after which it quiets down considerably when it becomes a predominantly US-only crowd.
Active server list with real-time player counts:
Unfortunately there aren't active servers in Asia, closest would be a couple of Australian servers.
Can any of this help?
I made every combination I could spot.
That's because there is no gradient to the throttle. It's either up or down. It sucks but that's why using a joystick is kind of pointless in this game. I have a MSFFB2 sitting here on my desk going unused and I use an xbox controller instead. Sad days. If you want to use an xbox controller you have to emulate the keyboard+mouse through a program like xpadder though.
Would getting a different wireless adapter help?
My new wireless adapter is a Belkin Basic Wireless USB Adapter http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Belkin+-+Basic+N150+Wireless+USB+Adapter/9769185.p?id=1218170030189&skuId=9769185
I use the deathadder with this mousepad. I bought it from Best Buy because it was the only local place that had one. It's been great, one side for speed and one for precision. I use the speed side primarily.
FML..
newegg shows the GTX 570 for ~$350 and in the UK, scan.co.uk shows it for ~£290 (~$460!!!)
UK is blooming really starting to tick me off young lad..
I would highly recommend the Sennheiser PC151 headset. I find them more comfortable over long sessions than other more expensive sets, and the sound is pretty good. I can't say much for the mic as I haven't tried recording anything with it, but it will suit nicely for Skype and in-game chat etc.
Sapphire 5770 here for the same price as the HIS
Both my 5770's are Sapphire, not that card, but Sapphire. Haven't had a problem with either.
Yeah I already did that, and it did improve quite a bit, but I am really looking to buy a new video card. Do you think this one would be able to handle this game at high settings?
Yeah, I know the card is crap. I am trying to buy a new one. I want to get something that can run this game at high settings pretty smoothly. I am looking at this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161338 right now.
Fixed it for you http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102017&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Sound+Card-_-Creative+Labs-_-29102017
50 bucks, a real soundcard. (Its on sale till the fourth) Seriously, if your computer can handle it I suggest it because I've never heard of somebody not having some issue or another with RealTeks crap
No idea, that site only does benchmarks with laptops and their respective components
Some useful tweaks though (backup settings.ini first):
HBAO (or HSAO) - Turn it off
Also the rest of these should be helpful: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/957944-battlefield-bad-company-2/53863964
Along with info found here: http://www.geforce.com/#/Optimize/Guides/bfbc2-tweak-guide
Yeah, it was a problem with Nvidia's early 4xx cards, with the 480 being more of a power hog than the 470. They've improved a lot in that area with the new 5xx cards, though the 580 still uses a fair amount of power (understandable considering how powerful it is).
Take a look at some benchmarks: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU/106
The BC2 benchmarks are DX11 and max quality, which might not be feasible on your budget, but you can at least get an idea of how different cards compare on that engine.
Also, heres a 5870 for $200 after rebate and promo code: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102883
HD6950. Can pick one up for $260 right now, probably less within a month or two. Outperforms the similarly priced GTX 560 Ti. About the same performance as the GTX 570 for $80 or $90 bucks less. And its firmware can be flashed (for free) and it'll perform as an HD 6970, which is even better. Best you're going to do for the money at the moment, by far.
For reviews and benchmarks go to: Anandtech and Tom's Hardware
I prefer anandtech's GPU benchmarks and reviews of the two, personally.
I've got a 5770, love it, and what I've found that with most single player games, like Mass Effect 2 and Civilization V, 1920 x 1080 is great.
BC:2 always confuses me. The framerate drops on different maps, Oasis and Panama Canal can get hectic, but other maps run like a charm.
Although, I always find myself toning down resolutions one step just to guarantee high framerate.
The benchmarks are done with high end quad cores, normally one of the best Core i7 processors, his Phenom II 2.6 GHz is very low end as far as modern quad core CPU's go.
Here's a 6850 benchmark using an Intel Core i7-920 @ 3.6 GHz. A CPU that is monolithically superior to his. As you can see it runs at 46 average FPS. This benchmark proves his claims are false, he is either mistaken or lying.
Edited because I originally mistook you for the OP of the comment.
Benchmarks don't support this. Using a CPU vastly superior to yours (and BC2 is very CPU intensive) it only gets 46 on average.
Most likely. I had the same crashes for some time with my card. http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/ let it run for some time and watch the temperature increase. For my passive cooled card it did go upto 91°C and then the mainboard shut down the pc.
Yep, make sure you enable logging and afterward you can check your temps and what not. Alternatively you can use OCCT or furmark to stress test your gpu. They will display your temp and let you know if you have rendering errors. Load wise they should be much more intense on the gpu, but probably not as much on the mem (depending on settings) than a game.
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/
Use that website to check for BFBC2 or any future game requirements, it has a very comprehensive list of games, and it will even tell you about "iffy" compatibility issues.
cpu and ram are good but you will have to buy a graphics card, you most likely have an integrated onboard intel GPU that will barely run the sims.
It honestly cant be that bad for $2.50. I have played several other MoH games and they were all pretty decent, Airborne can't be that far off.
Plus its Meta Score is 78. Not horrible.
I still love this game and I still play it. So I thought it was time I put together something half decent to celebrate the last great FPS released - in my opinion at least.
This version of the video is just under 2 minutes long - the "proper" version is over 7 minutes long and will be uploaded fairly soon.
The main track used in the video is called Antikythera Mechanism (original mix) and you can get it here: http://www.beatport.com/track/antikyt... for £1.30. The tune was made by an guy who goes by the name Beat Bizarre and his page on Beatport is here: http://www.beatport.com/artist/beat-b...
Thanks for watching and I hope you liked it.
IS that the processor the model number for the computer? Either way, I'm assuming this is your computer http://www.shopping.com/Gateway-Gateway-P-7809u-Immersive-On-the-Go-17-Notebook-PC/info ?
Should be fine to run BC2 at a mix of settings, so some high - some low, at at least 30 FPS.
I know this is lame, but I was able get close a "borderless window mode" by turning off Aero Snap. It sucks because you loose the Shift+Windows functionality with your keyboard, but you are able to move window borders slightly offscreen without Windows 7 trying to rearrange it. Its not perfect, but its pretty close.

Even without it, it has more potentially than your stock firmware. With DD-WRT, it allows for most connections for P2P if you do that kind of thing and it'll become more stabler, meaning you don't have to reset it from time to time.
If you are considering upgrading the firmware on your router, I would suggest you use Tomato instead. It has a more friendlier UI and it is insanely great at managing your bandwidth. Else, you can try DD-WRT first and Tomato next if you are unsure.

It makes the helicopter very twitchy, but it does make circle strafing a lot easier.
Yes. Try PrivateTunnel. It works beautifully and doesn't lag when I play league on a blocked network. You can make an account with 100 mb for free but then you have to pay for extra memory, so I made a shitload of accounts and continue to switch when one runs out of memory. Give it a try.
My guess is it would be that.
