Louder for the people in the back, please.
Amazon has VERY CHEAP TESTS! Buy in bulk and test whenever.
I learned the hard way that the most commonly known pregnancy tests in the US are the expensive, digital, bulky, thermometer-like huge pieces of plastic. Just get a cheap pink dye test, they do THE SAME THING! And more often than not, those bulky expensive tests are just one of those cheap ass tests covered in a bunch of unnecessary plastic.
God fuck that, call their supervisor and leave a review. That’s super unprofessional. Find yourself a nice female doctor, one that won’t treat you like trash. You don’t deserve that kind of shit. I’ve had some vaginal pain too, after sex sometimes my vagina gets very sore, more than it used to. I don’t know why, I have an IUD now I’m now sure if it’ll help or make it worse. But after sex I use aloe vera gel where it hurts. There’s also lube you can buy with aloe vera in it, I recommend it. I’ve also used these https://www.amazon.com/Vitanica-Arrest-Homeopathic-Vaginal-Suppositories/dp/B004WPBYUY/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=yeast+vaginal+suppository&qid=1551407697&s=gateway&sr=8-2 which are more for yeast infections, but they’re natural, they have aloe vera and tea tree and some other stuff that’s just soothing. Taking vitamin E might help a bit too. Sorry that’s all I got! Good luck!
Just wanna say it’s really sweet that you’re reaching out to help her through this.
Once I got my IUD, I bought myself this relatively inexpensive heating pad, and then I bought my friend one too, she loves it and we joke how we’re cyborgs now because we wear it all the time.
I’ve only had my IUD for around a month, and there’s still frequent pain, but this heating pad makes a world of difference, especially at work. It’s discreet, portable, battery powered, I love it, and it may make a nice little Christmas/holiday gift!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QWBSS1R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_V5r-DbG81K3ME
Many places are trying to get doctors to stop unnecessary tests to keep costs down.
There was no reason for her to order the test as:
1.Pregnancy isn’t really a concern.
2.A urine pregnancy test at the doctors is no different than one you do at home.
Since you want to test, buy them in bulk: https://www.amazon.com/Wondfo-Pregnancy-Strips-25-count-medical/dp/B0002YIQEQ
Edit:
P.S. I’m not hating on testing, I still keep a few tests at home if I’m late and anxiety builds (even though I have my tubes tied and usually use a second method as well). Just doctors don’t tend to want to order unnecessary tests.
Not the person you replied to, but I got Clinical Guard from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/ClinicalGuard%C2%AE-Pregnancy-Test-Strips-Individually-Sealed/dp/B007VT4F0E/ref=sr_1_13?keywords=clinical+guard&qid=1576264852&sr=8-13
Even if it's a combined average, that's still pretty low. Each individual fertility awareness method must have been relatively low to result in a 76-88% effectiveness rate.
Another statistic from the Mayo Clinic says that for every 100 women who use a fertility-based method, like taking basal temperature, 24 will get pregnant. This is on the assumption that the temperature method is used alone. The Mayo Clinic also reports that the temperature method is one of the least effective birth control methods out there.
https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/basal-body-temperature/basics/risks/prc-20019978
Again, fertility awareness requires a huge amount of discipline, and it must be done accurately and precisely year round. One mistake with the fertility awareness method has a much larger consequence than missing a single pill. Combine the discipline issue with fluctuating hormones, and it's an easy way to get pregnant. Even if you have a regular cycle, minor changes in hormone levels due to anything from diet to stress to exercise can offset things just enough to cause an unintended mistake in fertility tracking.
You asked a question, and we're all answering honestly. But if you want to keep giving rebuttals and trying to prove someone wrong, then it doesn't seem like you're looking for actual insight.
Upvote for aloe vera post-sex, it’s a game-changer:
Just plain aloe (ya know, the plant) works too if you’re patient enough to prepare your own!
To answer your questions:
Every body reacts to the pill differently! Your periods (length, heaviness, etc.), moods, hormone and acne levels, etc., will vary with each type of pill. It might take you a while to find the type of pill that's right for you. And this goes the same for an IUD - there's no way of telling how your body will react to the type of hormones you'll be getting.
Personally, I always used the Lady Pill Reminder app, but there are tons of apps out there. Take time to test a few out and see what works best! Alternatively, you could always just set an alarm on your phone or mark a reminder in your calendar.
Here is some more information about the different types of birth control!
...
I don't want to mom you... but please don't feel pressured into having sex just because your boyfriend wants to. I see that you mentioned that this is something that "he's been pushing for," but you don't mention whether or not this is something you want as well. You are always allowed to say "NO" no matter what. You are in control of your body and you should only be doing what you are comfortable doing. And if your boyfriend is a good guy then he'll respect that.
Now, if you are ready, then you should also look into using condoms. I know at the Planned Parenthood near me they have a basket full of free condoms. You should also be able to purchase some at any store - Walmart, CVS, possibly even your local corner market. Three-packs of condoms are pretty cheap (only a few dollars) and are always handy to have on hand.
My doctor said an aura could mean increased risk of stroke. An immediate family member who exercises every day, eats well, and was on the pill for most of her life (up to that point) had a stroke surprisingly young, so my doctor has been extra careful about this stuff. (she's 100% better now)
I wasn't totally sure what the aura/stroke link was though. Just did a google search and am now learning that a transient ischemic attack (aka TIA aka "mini-stroke") is similar to a migraine with an aura. From this link -
> A TIA is a warning: it means you are likely to have a stroke in the future.
So to vaguely answer your question - I guess it depends on a lot of different factors.
I will say that the auras went away when I stopped taking the pill. Unfortunately the migraines have not, they're just harder to predict...
So if you want to be sure you arent pregnant. You can buy a bulk pack of dip stick pregnancy test on Amazon. They are like less than 20 dollars and are usually what drs offices use. My OBGYN reccomends those ones or the dollar store tests.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071YNWRPP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_aZiHFb6HC0SYK
Have you looked into other forms of birth control that might ease your mind? I know what this feels like and the anxiety sucks but if you are using your pill perfectly then you probably dont have much to worry about. The dipstick pregnancy test are a cost effective way to ease your mind.
Honestly you’re more than covered. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.
Statistically your birth controls are 99% (Vasectomy) and 99% (IUD) AT WORST. So you’re looking at a 0.0001% chance of pregnancy as a worst case scenario.
But I totally understand the paranoia and sympathize. My girlfriend was constantly worried so I bought this on Amazon. Bulk pregnancy tests every week until you’re comfortable. Even take 3 at a time if you’re skeptical of their accuracy. We’ve never had an issue with them, and it’s dirt cheap all things considered, especially for the peace of mind.
You have 2 fantastic birth controls in place, and honestly you could probably get away with no IUD either. But ultimately it’s whatever you are most comfortable with
Your deductible wouldn't be a factor because birth control is a covered benefit regardless under ACA (this). I'm not sure what the difference between going to a clinic and going to an office would be because both take insurance and they are running the same insurance - but I'm not sure, maybe the nurse knew some stuff.
When I was trying to get my Nexplanon, I called the local gynecologist office and asked about it - they wanted to do a consultation appointment and then an insertion appointment - on top of that, I couldn't get in for another couple months.
I called the local health department. They got me in the next week and did the insertion on the same day. I did a urine pregnancy test - they also did a physical with a pelvic while I was there, I guess because it had been a year since my last one. They did some STD tests and some other stuff and then the insertion.
If I were you I would go to either another office or back to the clinic, maybe even PP. Call ahead of time and tell them the situation, what kind of insurance you have, etc. A blood pregnancy test? I've never heard of that for nexplanon.
Plan b is also for in the first 48 hours after potentially unprotected sex. Woman to woman, get yourself on another method. Then you'll have both methods and be extra covered. It should be free with ACA. https://www.healthcare.gov/coverage/birth-control-benefits/
Depending on how old you are, you REALLY don't want a kid yet. Be 100% sure.
https://www.webmd.com/sex/birth-control/features/the-pill-and-desire
Please note that libido is a very complex issue.
I was on Seasonique for a few months. I loved how I never bled, but I had no desire for sex at all. Some people don't do good on pills.
Contact lens cases like these! I buy a big bin of them to use when traveling for my moisturizer, sunscreen, foundation, etc. without having to take up a ton of space in my luggage. My current pack has 5 or 6 different colors so I can color-code for different products. They’re also good for holding a single/few pills for a sleepover or weekend trip.
As someone else mentioned, I also use the travel size bottles of Advil (about the size of a chapstick).
I have one and I love it! I recommend that you don’t pick one that’s marketed to women for periods, but instead choose one for generic pain. I have this one and there’s a $2 off coupon for it on Amazon
I also thought I had reoccurring yeast infections. After some research I found its most likely bacterial vaginosis which is a growth of ALL bacteria’s in your vagina (good and bad). I always had negative tests for yeast infections and the treatments for them wipe all of these allowing for good and bad to come back, flourishing like never before. Essentially it’s a horrible, itchy cycle.
I started taking a probiotic that has 3 strains that are known to increase production of the good bacteria and keep the bad at bay. After I started this I haven’t had any issues except when I forget to take them I get itchy and uncomfortable. I like these I get them on amazon as a reoccurring delivery so I never run I out. Look for ones with Lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus rhamnosus and lactobacillus reuteri - they are the ones proven for healthy vaginal bacteria growth.
Good luck.
Yikes!! I know you already appealed, but most birth control methods are covered at 100% through Obamacare so I’m confused why you got charged so much. https://www.healthcare.gov/coverage/birth-control-benefits/
A friend of mine is a doctor and I was recently talking to him about this. He says that the birth control and antibiotic thing is all from a flawed study completed in the 1950's and the general consensus nowadays is that it is not the case (I'm honestly not completely sure how correct this info is, it was just a casual conversation). I did a little searching on google scholar and found this study that states in the conclusion "We did not find an association between concomitant antibiotic use and the risk of breakthrough pregnancy among COC users. However, due to limited power and potential carryover effects, findings from this study cannot rule out an elevated risk of COC failure among antibiotic users." (Heres the link to the abstract http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0010782410005172 )
There are many other articles that are older that come to the same conclusions but this is the most recent one that my quick search found. With that said, I am still paranoid so I always act like it is a possibility. You'd better believe I still use a condom while I'm on antibiotics!
> probably because the cytotec (I think that's what it's called?) didn't really help my cervix to open/soften.
Who in the living HELL prescribes Cytotec for an IUD insertion???? My god I am absolutely revolted. Not only did the Cytotec not soften your cervix, it also made your pain (cramping) much worse than it should have. It's used in abortions and to induce labor (not FDA approved for that purpose and has a lot of risks and complications).
This is absolutely incredible!!! I wish there were more women like you to speak up about issues with birth control and embrace the birth control free lifestyle. I believe so many mental health issues for women are caused by birth control. I personally think an IUD is even scarier. I’m a few months short of 30 and have never been on birth control. Condoms work!!! You might enjoy https://www.amazon.com/Sweetening-Pill-Hooked-Hormonal-Control/dp/1780996071
You can get pregnancy test strips really cheap on Amazon. I get these ones. Better than paying $10 for First Response anyway :P
There's a link in the sidebar for amazon. It's like 25 test for 10 bucks if i recall correctly.
Edit since I got to PC: Here
There's a link in the sidebar for Wondfo brand tests, and Amazon also carries Clinical Guard brand that seem to have slightly better reviews.
Some hormonal medications can definitely affect your appetite or increase your water retention, mimicking weight gain. If you're not accurately tracking your calorie intake, it's so easy to slip in an extra hundred or so calories without really realizing it, if your appetite has grown.
https://www.webmd.com/sex/birth-control/birth-control-pills-weight-gain
>When birth control pills were first sold in the early 1960s, they had very high levels of estrogen and progestin. Estrogen in high doses can cause weight gain due to increased appetite and fluid retention. So, 50 years ago they may indeed have caused weight gain in some women.
>Current birth control pills have much lower amounts of hormones. So weight gain is not likely to be a problem.
The copper IUD is definitely a great option to explore though!
I'm sorry, that's awful. Was it out of network or not prescribed by a doctor? Unless either of those things is the case, it should have been covered!
It is why I mentioned before. It is not a first-handed, direct link between taking antibiotics and lower efficacy of birth control. It is antibiotics bringing nausea and/or diarrhea related symptoms to some people, which cause lower effectiveness of birth control. But again, it's not all people who get it, they just need to make sure. I've edited my first comment here with a link that explains that only antibiotics that treat tuberculosis directly interfere with effectiveness of estrogen-based birth control.
Edit: Feel free to check this link as well.
Later edit: Found this study as well.
What a hormone is is not a matter of interpretation, there's a clear definition.
Here is an easier to understand article:
https://www.webmd.com/sex/birth-control/news/20100813/new-morning-after-pill-ella-wins-fda-approval
"Ella contains ulipristal, a non-hormonal drug that blocks the effects of key hormones necessary for conception"
Tubal ligation is not sterilization. Whether clipped, burned, or banded, you can always decide to reverse it:
Check out this page from Mayo clinic for more info.
Even if you are looking into full hysterectomy, you'll likely keep your ovaries (at least one) or have the chance to freeze your eggs leaving you with an option for surrogacy.
Due to risk factors that impact women's lives long term, most countries strongly discourage 100% sterilization (removing of both ovaries) as it decreases life expectancy: more info here
It is your body, and doctors are often (to be blatant) ignorant af when people younger than 40 want tubal ligation.
Good luck with this discussion with your doctor, and always know that you have many many options.
I don't know if you found that in your googling, but WebMD has a tool to check interactions between meds! Of course it doesn't replace a physician, but since your Dr and your pharmacist didn't notice anything weird, it's probably more to put your mind at ease... here it is : https://www.webmd.com/interaction-checker/default.htm
Of course!! Yeah the clear blue ones are stupid expensive at the store, I got these ones on Amazon and have lasted me a super long time.
I was the same way during the first couple years of starting the combo pill too, it’s been 7 years and it’s the only form of BC I use. It really does work though and you will get more used to it and the anxiety won’t be so bad ❤️
The digitals tend to have a higher HCG threshold to show a positive, so this would probably be better considering your history with tests. I am on nexplanon and I use a cheapie like this: https://www.amazon.com/AccuMed-Pregnancy-25-Count-Individually-Detection/dp/B071YNWRPP/ref=dp_prsubs_1?pd_rd_i=B071YNWRPP&psc=1
So far, I have only had stark negative tests when I have used them. Good luck! I'm very sorry that this has caused you so much stress. That sounds like a horrible experience.
I bought those and have used A LOT but never had a false positive, my friend also found out she was pregnant with one of them.
Technically, yes you can use the ring and the cup together but you have to be careful. The ring needs to maintain contact with the walls of your vaginal canal in order for hormone delivery to occur. Sometimes, the ring may fall into the cup and not be able to deliver hormones. If it's on the side, it will likely leak, and if it's below, it might not be comfortable. As for sex, no. If you wish to have a cup of sorts in while having sex, you will need something like a soft cup or the reusable version, nixit.
I’ve been using this brand of menopause relief supplements. I’ve been taking them for about a month. I can’t explain to you guys how much better I’ve been feeling waking up to no bleeding!
ThermaCare Advanced Menstrual Pain Therapy.
Probably cheaper at your local grocery store but here's what they look like
First: Buy a pack of pregnancy test strips. You can buy 50 for $15 here. Take one every week if you need to. Over time that should help reduce pregnancy anxiety because you can consistently check for yourself.
Second: Check your strings. Get familiar with how they feel, the way they rest, their length, etc. Check that everyday if you need to. So long as your IUD doesn't move, you're actively protected. If something feels unusual, use a condom until your doc can take a look for you.
The real answer to "how to trust your iud" is to learn to trust yourself and your ability to recognize a problem. That's a skillset that takes some time, especially when it comes to a piece of plastic in your uterus, so use the tools available to you to build those skills!
I take a few pills, so I use this. Otherwise, there are some cute little pill boxes you can order from Etsy.
I use this for multiple pills because it has 3 sections. Although birth control pills are tiny they will slide into the next compartment. But I still like it because it's small and pretty. You can search Amazon for a pill box and there's multiple options!
Yes, Liletta will thin your lining and thus you have lighter or no periods.
You verify it’s working by checking your strings every month. Squat with butt on ankles, bear down like going poo, insert clean finger and feel for mini doughnut that feels like the tip of your nose. Lightly feel the mini doughnut for strings and to make sure you don’t feel the actual IUD. You may need to ‘circle’ it to feel the strings.
If you still have anxiety you can take a cheap pregnancy test each month. Here is an example of a cheap pack: https://www.amazon.com/Wondfo-Pregnancy-Strips-25-count-medical/dp/B0002YIQEQ
If the pregnancy test is negative you aren’t pregnant.
I have always been a firm believer in medicine, so trusting the birth control was never my issue. Trusting myself and my body was the problem. Accidents do happen, sure, but we always hear the horror stories. And never the "everything went as expected" ones.
If you get really nervous, like I did the first month after switching birth control types, go to Amazon and buy 20 tests for ~$8. here. These always help me get peace of mind.
Especially if you're not feeling any other symptoms it sounds like you've really got nothing to worry about. I do occasionally get exactly what you're talking about too. A day (or even a few hours) of super light spotting, with maybe a little cramping and then nothing when my period "should" be.
I bought a pack of pregnancy tests on amazon to help calm my mind. So far no babies and no issues with the effectiveness of the lamotrigine! I guess at this point I'm nearing the halfway point of my Skyla and I would definitely go for another when this one is up.
Yeah, testing is the only surefire way to know whether you're pregnant or not. Not sure why testing once a month is so burdensome, but if you think it's a financial burden (since some tests can get pretty pricy), you can buy them in bulk from Amazon (like this one, it doesn't have to be digital, cheap strip ones do just as good).
Also, you might want to consider switching to another form of birth control in the near future, since Depo is known to cause bone density issues in long-term use.
Awesome! Here’s the Amazon page - I have the hard copy but they have a digital version too. You can also check you local libraries but I think it’s nice to own as a reference. It is such a revelation and I think will help you a lot!
I get mine in a combined tablet (not sure if you're in the US or elsewhere, I'm in Ireland and I get mine in Boots) but most healthstores have them, amazon too https://www.amazon.com/Seven-Seas-Primrose-Starflower-Capsules/dp/B0013G8R78/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1528899385&sr=8-3&keywords=evening+primrose+with+starflower
I've had the implant for a shorter longer for you (I think I got it in Feb) and I've experienced the same symptoms as you. Cramping, spotting instead of periods, nausea, the like. I bought a bulk order of pregnancy tests off of Amazon- they're basically just the paper strips thats inside the plastic in name brand testers and I take one every month for peace of mind.
I think your side effects are normal since they're really common among other women who've also had the nexplanon. Every woman reacts to it differently, so I wouldn't worry. :)
So, the mini pill does not consistently suppress ovulation, but nonetheless, ovulation gets suppressed. If you don't ovulate, you don't get a period.
It's totally normal to have no period at all/irregular periods when on the mini pill.
You can test monthly if that would ease your mind. Amazon sells 25 Clinical Guard tests for less than 8 dollars. Here's a link
Yep!
Pregnancy tests100 for $20 USD (either the price changed or I remembered wrong) from Amazon.
Emergency contraceptive $9 USD each
That isn’t how ACA works. It has nothing to do with price.
I assume yours is grandfathered?
Edit to add:
Adding link to explain what “grandfathered” means
https://www.healthcare.gov/glossary/grandfathered-health-plan/
As long as we still have the ACA, insurers are required to cover vaccines at 100% (no deductible, no copay), including HPV. Unless you're over 26, your insurance should cover.
Yes, even if you have abnormal cells, your IUD insertion should be fine. Your IUD is going well up beyond the cervix with just the strings hanging down in the way if you, for some weird reason, needed to have a procedure to remove tissue from the cervix.
And congratulations, recent studies show a correlation between use of IUDs and lower risk of cervical cancer anyway. So...yea!
You could track your ovulation & only use condoms when you're ovulating. You can get 50 ovulation test strips for $17 on amazon, lasts a couple years. I don't trust the calendar apps that track ovulation (20% effective.)
Yeah I got extreme skin irritation too... Only down bellow. It got to the point where i couldn't even put tampons in (and I was bleeding for 10+ days a month, extreme cramping etc.
I suggest you hold on to the IUD, if that's truly the only side effect. You can talk to a dermatologist to help reduce inflammation ofc and in the meantime
Beplain serum once a day before sleep
And
La Roche Posay as a clenser during my daily shower worked miracles on my skin.
In addition make sure you change your pillow case weekly
I switched from the patch to another method. I never ran into this problem while I was using it, so I'm just guessing at possible solutions here that might not work. My first thought is to put a loose fitting bandage over the patch, one that is only adhesive around the edges and with none of edges touching the patch itself, that way, when you take the bandage off every day, you won't rip the patch off by accident.
My second thought was something like what they use to cover tattoos and sutures after surgery--link showing what I'm thinking of
It's important to note that Brown University does not recommend cleaning the patch when it is dirty:
> How do I clean dirt or a dark ring around the patch?
> It is not recommended that you clean the edges of the patch prior to removal on the "patch change day." Lifting the edges of the patch may cause it to become loose or fall off. Using creams, oils, or powders near the patch may cause it to become loose. On your "patch change day," when you remove the patch, if a small ring of adhesive is left on your skin, you can remove it by rubbing a small amount of baby oil on the area.
I personally got the Pregmate Pregnancy Strips, 50 for ~$16. They are available on Amazon as well as at Target. If you’re not American, I’d suggest checking out Amazon for other options.
The only difference with these pregnancy tests is that they are smaller and you have to dip them (unlike the tests where you can also pee directly on the test.) But they work just as well!
I recently developed spider veins on my thighs/cheeks- this happened while I was on Nexplannon. It got sooo bad especially when I was weightlifting consistently. Like to a point where I don't feel comfortable putting on a bathing suit. I got my implant taken out in May (I had it for a year) and the veins seem to be getting worse? I'm not overweight, I'm active, and I just learned that Nexplannon, like most birth control pills and implants, can cause this. Low blood pressure is a thing (and blood clots) and it's really fucked up because I'm only 24 and I shouldn't have to worry about this. They're not harmful, but if your family has a history of blood clots you need to tell you gyno asap
If you're considering other birth control methods- I highly recommend Beyond the Pill to just learn more about what birth control does to your body! I got off nexplannon for a number of reasons but I had no idea spider veins would be one of them.
There are options out there, it's just a matter of informed consent! Currently using the fertility awareness method and it's changed my life for the better. Hope this helps <3
i had the same problems with Amicette (Pfizer) and even though i do have PCOS and also faint/vomit, etc on my period i decided against it, because i use condoms anyway and the side effects you describe werent worth it, to me.
the first two months after going off were debilitating but the last two were almost in a range of what i would consider 'normal' levels of pain, which i give this supplement credit for, because i haven't changed much else.
this supplement seems to help, for now, but i just have taking it for two cycles 🤷🏻♀️
also magnesium citrate (and heat!) does more for me than 1200mg Ibuprofen. expect no miracles, but if taken soon enough (which means the second you feel the first cramps coming) it takes off the edge.
keep in mind, im neither vehemently pro or anti pill, it is a very individual decision, especially if used effectively as HRT and not as birth control (:
These are the ones I used when I had an IUD: AccuMed Pregnancy Test Strips, 25-Count Individually Wrapped Pregnancy Strips, Early Home Detection Pregnancy Test Kit, Clear HCG Test Results, Over 99% Accurate https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071YNWRPP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_7AXZE849F6SPZ30NECMM (I tried adding the link in a less bulky way but it wasn’t working, sorry)
I got these on Amazon, you get 50 strips for about $15! They don’t expire for about two years so you won’t have to buy any more for a while.
This significantly increased my libido, mood and energy. Supreme Maca Capsules 9000 mg, Powerful Black Maca Root Extract, Premium Strength - with Red Maca, Yellow Maca, Black Cohosh, Red Clover & More - Extremely Potent, 120 Capsules https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LBLT7HK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PS6HNV3T3NPZX2YD8Q53
That makes me happy. I'm constantly preaching advice onto people, and even though it's usually pretty good advice, people don't like to get preached at. 😅 I gotta work on that, but it does make me happy when my ramblings actually are solicited and helpful.
A little bit more advice: her keeping track of her period on an app is fine, but don't be afraid to question its math. I had been using my app FOREVER, and I just assumed it knew my body's cycle pretty well by then.
And also, remember what I said about those bulk pregnancy test strips. I'm a lot more calm nowadays at the ripe old age of 27, but from anywhere between 15-25 I was deathly terrified of getting pregnant without planning it. One of the few things that could calm me down was those pregnancy test strips (100 for like 22 bucks on Amazon), especially after I learned they're literally the same thing as what the doctors use without the plastic packaging (and can be even more useful at tracking pregnancies/miscarriages than the ones that use words like "PREGNANT." I'll explain more if anyone cares.)
There's just a 5% chance you're more likely to get pee on yourself, but whatever. Also they're so cheap ($.40 a test), you can take a few and not feel guilty wasting them if you're paranoid about a false positive or false negative ($20 test or not, I'm at least taking two before I pay for a doctor to give me the same cheap test and tell me the same thing I aready know but charge me $150 for it).
Also, if you have any weird questions about this stuff, like birth control options or something, I'll happily be your helpful older sister that can guide you towards some resources or at least understand where to start! Sex Ed is one of my passions but until I have kids of my own or start teaching health class at a high school (😖), I don't get to talk about it much.
I’m the opposite, I got on bc and am getting them almost monthly. I use these suppositories everytime I get an itch. The constant crime suppositories they sell over the counter left me really sore down there. I load up on probiotics too, though I don’t think they help much.
I would recommend reading this book! lots of great advice on how to heal etc after HBC: https://www.amazon.com/Period-Repair-Manual-Second-Treatment-ebook/dp/B075NDJC2J
Take a test to ease your mind the I highly recommend you read this book
Sorry to hear this, at this point you have to think about the cost and benefits of bc. It sounds like it’s taking a huge toll on you physically and mentally. In my opinion it might not be worth it. I highly recommend Beyond The Pill by doctor Jolene brighten. Good luck to you
I was on birth control from when I was 14 because my periods and cramps and stuff are so bad. I got a detox on Amazon to get rid of the extra hormones and I’ve been great sense. My skin is clear and no weight issues.

I thought it was one of each type had to be covered ...so since there is only one ring, Nuva should be covered? I know there are quite a few little loopholes, but I can say my Nuva Ring was 100% free as was the appointment to get it prescribed. But for pills, IUDs, it's a lot more hit or miss which ones are covered.
Edit: I can't find the one of each type specification I have heard tossed around, but it says all FDA approved contraceptive methods, including the ring. https://www.healthcare.gov/coverage/birth-control-benefits/
If you know that Name Brands are also made in India. In the very same plants? ... Her / your concern is just that generics cost less? Huh?
Sorry, but this is just an excuse to say racist stuff that is fake (just like all the fake news out there now... tiny nugget of truth (a few India drug manufacturers got in trouble, just like EVERYWHERE else) ... spun to the crazy extreme and used as an excuse to be say racist / crazy shit).
>Are name-brand drugs safer? >No. Manufacturing standards are the same for brand-name and generic drugs. In fact, many brand-name drugs are produced overseas as well, often in the same plants as the generic equivalents.

Also could be your doctor is paid and sold for by several drug companies to sell the name brand she has you scared not to use.
Either way the doctor is completely untrustworthy, get a new one ASAP.

Mayo says "partially suppresses ovulation."
It definitely isn't its intended use and I never claimed it was. But many women do experience either intermittent lack of ovulation or long stretches without ovulation, especially at the beginning.
Well did you ask her if she wants to be tested for herpes? Or how she would feel if she did test positive? From your post it seems like you are assuming how she would feel about being tested for herpes or how she would deal with being diagnosed.
Here's a study compelling several studies that shows this about blood testing for HSV2
> HSV-2 diagnosis by type-specific serological testing did not result in long-term psychosocial harm in most persons without an identified history of genital herpes. Concerns about sustained emotional impact should not deter clinicians from offering HSV-2 serological testing to appropriate patients.
Also how would you feel if you did contact herpes if she wasn't tested and you later were infected. How would you react if she was tested and came up positive?

I used this Took one every night at the same time as I took slynd for about two weeks and then it slowly went away. If you search the sub for it, there’s a ton of reviews. Some people say it worked for them, some didn’t see a difference. But to me it was worth a try and it worked for me
The pill is unreliable as a preventer of pregnancy.
I know women who have gotten pregnant five times on the pill.
You should look into a second method of birth control as backup,
unless you're genuinely down to have an oopsie-baby.
Absolutely get a bunch of cheap pregnancy tests to have on hand for situations like these.
These are a great deal btw! I take them all the time just to be sure haha

It's so ridiculously confusing, I know! I only happen to be aware that some plans are still grandfathered because my employer (in the healthcare field!) still does not offer a plan with free preventive visits!

I found some more information to support my claim about the research done by the World Health Organization. The closest thing I found to an explanation to the discontinuation of the brand Lunelle is this webpage by WebMD. My skepticism comes in where they say that the medication had failures to prevent pregnancy. If this was the case then it must have been brand specific or something to do with the company producing the drugs. I can't understand how a drug that is labeled as "highly effective" by a 40 year study was pulled off the American market within two years. The other odd thing is that the WebMD web page doesn't even have a link to the company website stating the recall.
I did some more research online and I might have found the answer. This company got bought out by Pfizer :/ they claim it's because the medication fails but Pfizer makes Depo Provera and probably shelved Lunelle so that they wouldn't have competition with a drug that actually works and doesn't harm the patient. https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmXoypizjW3WknFiJnKLwHCnL72vedxjQkDDP1mXWo6uco/wiki/Pharmacia.html#cite_note-9
This link below gives some more details about what I said. The link above is the company that sold Lunelle before they got bought out.
Turns out it was just old fashioned capitalism that ultimately hurts the consumer... Le sigh 😒
If this happens again use this hilarious informational short read. It helped me get the condom out quickly. Coming from a nurse, there is a change of pregnancy when these things happen. Just check again in a few days. You can pick up 3/$1 tests from dollar tree. They’re pretty accurate. (I had 10+ results before I stope doubting the quality of the test 11yrs ago) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09K7QLJNX/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_a_EX9H7FFQBDF2RHV5VAJW
Time will help, continue with your skincare and good diet, your natural hormones will eventually balance themselves out, it may take a few months.
I really recommend the Aztec clay mask mixed with apple cider vinegar, if you haven’t tried it yet:

I also had vaginal dryness but with the implant. It was frustrating but it made a major difference for me and my bf to have heavy foreplay/oral before penetration. A good lube also works but I’ve tried so many and I just don’t like them like they work at first and then they start to burn. The only one that has worked for me consistently is this one.
I've been buying these for years. When I'm sexually active, I take a test every Sunday just as part of my routine.

$8 for 25 tests and $12 for 50. Be careful of buying the 59 pack if you aren't using them often because they do expire.
This the one I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.benbasha.pill
But there are lots out there. Just search pill reminder or lady pill reminder. My is literally called birth control pill reminder.
I’m on Nexplanon. I got it in September and I was spotting almost daily. Most days it wasn’t a lot, but I always needed to wear a liner or pad just in case I started spotting while out. I was sick of it, but I was trying to stick it out.
FAST FORWARD TO ABOUT A MONTH AGO. I reallllyyyyyy wanted Nexplanon to work for me so I order these basically vitamins off of Amazon called Slow Flow. And holy crap. The first week I got them, I took one capsule everyday. I started them on a Tuesday and no joke by Thursday, absolutely nothing. I’ve been taking one every other day after that first week and this month has been incredible. I went from spotting daily to nothing almost overnight. I wish I ordered it months ago.
This is the product so I personally highly recommend it if you want to give it a try.
Invest in some strip pregnancy tests. You can buy a pack of 50 for $15 online and they last like 3 years before expiration. I'll link one option below.
It can take time to build up trust in a bc method. If you're anxious about it, make your partner wear a condom until you feel safe. If they refuse, then they don't get to have sex with you. Because consent with conditions is assault without.

Get off the pill! It’s the greatest thing one can do! If you need encouragement there are some amazing books out there. There are ways to control your acne. I guarantee you’ll feel happier off the pill and if not there are ways to help with that too.

Many women have anxiety about getting pregnant. Unfortunately there is no one way to trust your birth control other than really having faith. That being said, many women will pick up a box set of cheap pregnancy tests from amazon so they can test every so often for peace of mind. Something like this. If you're in the states, they would be even cheaper.
I assume you aren't in the US. I don't know for sure in other countries, but you should be able to find cheap ones online. I found these on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Ecloud-ShopUS®-Early-Pregnancy-Accuracy/dp/B0154LQPN0/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1479666373&sr=1-4&keywords=pregnancy+test
If you can't get a test, there's no way of knowing for sure whether or not you're pregnant.
> my period is 4 days late
You don't ovulate on nexplanon, and also don't have a placebo week like you'd have on the pill/patch/ring to get a bleeding. So your chance of having regular periods goes out the window. With no ovulation, all you're getting on the implant is breakthrough bleeding - and if it was regular until now, it was coincidence.
It's absolutely normal for bleedings to be irregular or have no determined pattern while on the implant, since they don't have anything to depend on (like ovulation on natural periods, or placebo weeks on combo methods).
Even if bleedings stopped for some women, they could also come back later since the dosage in the implant trickles off as time goes. It's still enough to prevent pregnancy, since it's not made with the absolute minimum dosage, but it might not be enough to keep other symptoms at bay (such as bleeding or cramps).
If you're worried about pregnancy, feel free to buy pregnancy tests in bulk from Amazon (Wondfo brand tests are a godsent), they're crazy cheap and you can test either once a month or when you feel like you're having a scare. Bear in mind that if you were ever far enough in a pregnancy to show symptoms, you'd also be far enough to turn a test positive.
Hey! Ugh, that sucks, sorry to hear that you have to stick with it for the time being due to financial reasons. I bought this kind on Amazon, which I actually even use during my period (and only have to change maybe 3 times a day during the heaviest times of my period?) So for my flow, they have more than enough absorbency for spotting/light flow. I would DEFINITELY recommend the kind with bamboo fleece for absorbency -- I have another set that doesn't have an absorbent core, and they are less comfortable and more prone to leakage.
Absolutely.
OP, here is a link to Clinical Guard test trips from amazon. 20 tests for $7.29 and 25 tests for $7.99. You'll be set for a while.
I use them as do my friends, never had an issue with them (apart from when I didn't follow the directions. almost had a heart attack that time) and they're great. Simple to use, easy to discard of, easy to read.
Unfortunately no, the link to the last 100 pack I bought from amazon has expired and the brand has seemingly disappeared off of Amazon. I will say though that this link looks like a good replacement:

I have skyla, and always had acne prone skin too. I'm at the end of my first, and will be getting a second later this year.
My acne got back to were it was when I was a teenager, but recently I found a new cream and it's helping my skin get a lot smoother. (this one)
My acne is not completely gone, but waaay more under control than before. I haven't seen a dermatologist or anything, and mostly use grocery store face products.
if you mean panty liners, i like Carefree Acti-Fresh liners! they have them in different sizes/lengths too
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NJNJ6O6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_MMKwFb1SRDTRY
they have them in most drugstores too i believe!
Estradiol affects gut microbiomes. Try eating a small snack with your pill or taking it right before bed.
I would recommend a probiotic as well, specifically one with acidophilus, that is a woman’s best friend. here
Reassess in a few weeks, may have to ask your dr for a lower dose estrogen (ultra low dose) or a progesterone only birth control.
I'd get this box of 25 for $10 USD.
When I ordered it I got the 100 count for $20 USD without thinking because it's so many more tests for your dollar. But the issue is they only last 2 years until they expire, so I'll only have used 24 of the tests out of the 100 count box.
$10 for peace of mind for 2 years is definitely worth it. For me it's the reassurance each month that I'm still ok.
Hello! I also suffer from migraines with aura and have a Paraguard. The insertion process was not bad. There were a few moments of pain but they were pretty quick. I asked my NP to talk me through everything she was doing and that helped me to know when the pain was coming. I also took ibuprofen about an hour before my appointment and that helped with the cramping after the insertion. I actually tried the mirena before the paraguard and the mirena insertion was a lot worse. I didn’t throw up after either insertion but I did get a little nauseous after the mirena insertion. I honestly think I was caught off guard by the pain with the mirena insertion because I had no idea what to expect going into it. I was at my annual appointment and decided to try the iud and had it inserted that same day. With the Paraguard I was expecting the worst and it ended up not being that bad.
Also I just wanted to throw out there that this book has helped sooo much with my migraines. I definitely recommend giving it a read!

take the test and see what happens. much cheaper on amazon than in stores. if you had a miscarriage, it is possible that your hcG levels haven't yet decreased to 0, it can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks for them to decrease to 0. under 5 hcG is considered "not pregnant." if it's still positive then your gyno may do an ultrasound and check to make sure everything from the miscarriage is out or in the process of coming out. they can also do a blood pregnancy test to determine the exact hormone levels and see if it is decreasing. wishing you the best of luck + keep us updated!

It is tempting to fall into a spiral of looking on the internet to try to figure out how likely it is that a BC mistake resulted in pregnancy...but while you can get an idea of how at risk you are, you're never going to know for sure. Wondering if you're pregnant on the internet is a nightmare because just about anything can be a symptom of pregnancy and every website/thread is going to list something you've experienced as a possible indicator. To echo what some other folks have said:
(1) If you can afford it, take a test, test again every few days. (You can get a jumbo pack of tests on Amazon) and when it's been a few weeks since your last unprotected incident, go to a doctor to get tested and talk to her about #2.
(2) Look into methods you can remember. The mini-pill is one of the easiest to screw up as you've got to be really diligent about taking it on time. Consider an implant, shot, patch, or IUD.
(3) If your boyfriend is "hardheaded" and won't use condoms when you need a backup BC method, dump his ass. Unless you're both ready to be parents and emotionally and financially support a child, then you both need to be invested in making birth control work. Also, this is red flag city.
