I want you to do a blind test with a properly encoded MPEG-1 AL3 ( ≥ 245 kbit/s compressed with a quality encoder like "lame") versus a .flac of the same song (just download your favourite song as a .flac and convert it yourself using the lame codec set with audacity or any other music-editing tool). Then get another person and let them play both files for you while you are blindfolded / not looking. For an easy evaluation do 10 listen samples. You partner writes down if you guessed correctly or not. I bet my left nut and my right one as well that you can't get at least 7 out of 10 right.

Unless you spend an exorbitant amount of money on headphones and a proper ODAC you're not going to hear any difference! It's hard to believe at first given the big jump in file-size, but you can rarely make out a clear winner. It mostly comes down to how the music is produced, where the artists equipment has its limits and what hardware / software he uses to compose.

Joel know his stuff pretty well and I'm sure he goes for as small of a quality loss as possible when it comes to audio-convertion.

TL;DR: .flac is a waste of disc-space when compared to a proper .mp3 file. Like most PC-Audio related stuff, .flac is snake-oil.

It's very satisfying to learn though! I've been DJing for six years, and three years for weddings/birthdays/clubs and it's a really fun 'skill' to learn.

If you ever want to give it a try, you can use VirtualDJ (which from my experience is one of the most user-friendly) and a cheap DJ controller (e.g. my original controller).

It allows you to really appreciate how important timing is when mixing tracks together, and it's really fun to do in your spare time. I really regret turning my hobby into a job which is why I quit DJing events, but it's very fun regardless :)

I tried to recreate it the way Joel played it at UMF, here's a link. I also played around a bit with the files and rearranged it a little bit, so that there are some vocals in the very beginning as well, here's a link to that, if you are interested.

Definitely not claiming for those to be the best, but they work for me :P

It's not that hard to do this, though, you can find the acapellas very quickly with google and then mash the songs together with Audacity.

Here's that letter from YouTube I today came in the mail http://imgur.com/6fD3Ife (in Russian, but the main thing is so clear). So bad that Deadmau5 and his lawyer have chosen such a decision (they did not ask to remove specific video or even joint activities).

In my video was 3 Set (one of which Space Ibiza was loaded in free access, other 2 with over 400k views may be violate any copyrights, but uploaded already 2 years ago), the rest of the video-Livestream and cut of tracks from it, that any copyright don't have and were uploaded by me only for fans and support interest in Deadmau5 to exit new album.

I've still left an account on soundcloud, but there is a restriction on free use in 2h, which almost ended (and buying a subscription that probably sooner or later will be blocked too I have no desire to).

Perhaps a new stream and tunes from it will appear in my group at VK.com or somewhere else (the need for this I now reflect) where will not interfere with Deadmau5 interests & create a new tracks.

I had several problems with my mau5 head. There are two areas that show major 'cloth; scars that cant really be shown by picture. Also the ears are a major problem because of how much extra clth I left and I had to disguise it. Was really difficult.

I don't exactly want to share too many, and most of them are obscure sounds you can hear in the Citadel. Basically anything Citadel ambient related comes from the same pack. I have yet to go over all of the samples, but I know for sure that the odd trumpet song you hear at the beginning of Chapter 10 is comprised of two samples. One is "Distorted Trumpets" and another is "Is that the Door"

You probably already knew this, but I wanted to confirm that Circles and No Sudden Moves were also formally credited to Joel, so I did some searching (couldn't find these titles on ASCAP) and voila! All three of these tracks are already on my "deadmau5 Essentials" playlist...it's nice to finally confirm officially that they belong!

Technically I didn't really "capture" it as much as I saved it while it was streaming.

While watching the stream in Chrome I opened the developer tools (Ctrl+Shift+I) and went to the Network tab. There I looked for a .m3u8 file, which is sort of a "playlist" file often used for internet streams. You can use this file to view the stream in VLC, for example. I used the file with a command-line tool called Streamlink to basically save the stream as a video file.

If you're not familiar with using command-line tools and dev tools in Chrome then this might be a bit tricky to do the first time.

I fiddled with this, and yes, it fits reaaally good. What seems to work the best is the outro, mixed in with the break(?) of Moar Ghosts.

It's basically taking the outro of Professional Griefers, repeating it, and adding reeverb over time, while starting the Moar Ghosts part. I guess, you could also use the original Ghosts N Stuff with Rob Swire's vocals, but it might sound sudden, and choppy. But I don't know.

Beatport has it in WAV or AIFF, but they don't have the continuous mixes.

Qobuz has it in a variety of formats (including FLAC) but the Disc 1 continuous mix appears to have been cut short (hopefully they'll fix it). Also Qobuz isn't available in some countries (like the US), but you may be able to email support to get access.

i dont make music and dont plan on it anytime soon, but a buddy of mine does and i believe he started using this free software called virtualDJ. i think you can use it to mix and edit tracks but im not entirely sure how it works. im sure theres probably some sort of guide tho. well hope this helps, good luck.

I would assume vinyl for the deadmau5 remix doesnt exist since discogs doesn't even have artwork for it but there are several vinyls for sale of the original mix in 12". Even less likely the remix exists on 7".
