One owner of a white golden to another - invest in a bottle of this stuff. After a bath and/or once weekly, spray him down with it. Do it outside since it WILL make your hard flooring extremely slippery (there are literally warnings on to bottle to not spray it where your saddle/girth goes on the horse). If he likes to lay on hard flooring, I'd wait until he's dry to spray him down with it since as he dries it will just get on the floor and still make it slippery.
Next time he goes "mudding" a quick rinse will get 90% off without even needing shampoo. It also will keep his fluff from getting tangled, dry dirt shakes right out, and also makes getting cockleburs and similar stuff out of their coat a piece of cake.
Edit to add: Proof here. Just sprayed him down when we got home - no soap, and took no more than 5 minutes.
This worked wonders for our golden- she slept through the night from day 1. Doesn’t work for everyone but was a lifesaver for us. Also can be found in local pet stores. SmartPetLove Snuggle Puppy Behavioral Aid Toy, Biscuit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0722XGRMB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_OibOuckZeHxhI
Anytime we have long drives we give our dogs dramamine. If you're not familiar its motion sickness medicine for people, our vet told us its ok for dogs. The great side effect is it makes them sleepy. Here is some dosage advice http://www.ehow.com/facts_5525249_dramamine-dosage-dogs.html We roll it up in a piece of cheese so they will eat it. They end up sleeping for most of the car ride. Our goldens are very well behaved in cars so its not a big deal to drive with them. Definitely take frequent breaks to let them run around. I would say yes to water but don't feed them while your on the road, that should help with the motions sickness. Good luck
For Goldens specifically, because they are such a large dog, I recommend the largest target possible - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006ABVGQ
With my golden, after 3-4 months he was so big that he would stand on the pee pad and pee off of it

so you've never even met the mother? that, to me, would be a big red flag in itself... try reverse image searching the pics they sent you here and here to see if they have been googled where they are from.
I don't know much about the CKC so i can't really answer that, but others here or on /r/dogs might be able to. I don't know exactly what information they guarantee or how easy they are to forge.
I can pretty much guarantee you though that that is not a purebred Golden. at best you're getting a golden/lab cross. If you've been sold a purebred golden retriever i would be getting in contact with the relevant authorities because i'm pretty sure that is illegal in a lot of countries. as other's have mentioned in response to my original comment it's also concerning that he looks somewhat neglected in terms of grooming (nail clippings etc) combined with what looks like meeting you in a parking lot for you to see the puppy, i wouldn't be surprised if this was a decent sized puppy mill you're looking at.
Have you done a thorough search on the breeder?

I feel you!! I'm glad you're finally seeing improvement! Which probiotic was your baby on?
Very similar experience here. About $1,000 in bills/meds so far. You and I probably know way too much about poop now lol. The week I brought her home, she was diagnosed with giardia and the vet put her on Panacur and Hill's Prescription Diet i/d.
When she re-tested, the results came back negative, yet the symptoms never improved. So it was either a false negative, giardia cysts weren't shed in the stool sample, or she was reinfected.
Then the vet ordered a $350 advanced fecal panel test, which showed giardia, campylobacter, and clostridium perfringens. She went all out and prescribed Panacur, metronidazole, and Purina FortiFlora probiotics. Nightmare is right! I've been cleaning my entire house top-to-bottom, daily.... I feel like all I do is clean... sanitizing her crate, toys, linens, and shampooing the carpet. The only proven thing that kills giardia is bleach, which we can't use on the carpet of course, so this is the next best thing.
This past Friday, she tested negative for everything and also got her final round of pup vaccines. I feel so relieved but will continue to clean in case the nasties are still lurking in the environment!

You could try getting him a Kong ball:

However, they are heavy, make a loud pounding sounds if bounced on the floor, and my golden quickly lost interest in his once he realized that he couldn't tear it to shreds (It's kind of a theme with him :) ). It has sort of become his permanent ball, though. I've had that thing for many years now and it is still in good condition.

Wellness is a good brand. The facility that I used to work at fed that to all the puppies that came to school
Not food related but I highly recommend this book, especially for first time puppy owners: Puppy Start Right
Good luck and have fun!
My dog eats Pro Plan Sport. it came highly recommended from his breeder. And he has a nice shiny coat to go with his crazy energy.
Also, it might be worth it to get amazon prime just for the dog food. Its cheaper than the pet stores and free shipping.
I have a 5 year old so I’ll try to answer some of these. Someone once told me Goldens take a couple of years to grow up. Don’t worry they really do grow up and will be the most loyal dog you’ve ever had!
Yes this is pretty normal behaviour. Golden love stealing things. Mine will take your shoe but won’t chew it up or anything. Try to take said naughty item from her, say “NO” firmly. Then replace with a toy. Sounds like she is teething? Get some Kong chew toys and put peanut butter in them.
Mine still does this, we have some low tables where she can just stretch her neck out. She doesn’t jump up anymore but if there is something delicious to take she will.
Mine doesn’t like water either. She will play with her doggo friends in the mud though
Not sure. Mine sulks a bit if I kick her off the “good” couch but not for long.
I’m not a dog trainer but I would suggest some getting professional dog trainer help. Sounds like she is displaying pretty normal puppy habits though. I agree about day care as well. Also try Kong treat dispenser toys eg Kong wobbler will keep her busy for a bit.
Or possibly a soft cone shaped like a lion mane? So he can still feel fierce.
Ours is still a pup but we've had good results with Himalayan yak cheese chews and bully sticks. The yak chews are really resilient.
I like the Snoop puzzle toy! We have a golden retriever. We tried 10 or more different kinds of dog food. We tried not feeding him chicken. We finally found a dog food that worked. It was recommended here on Reddit.

My golden doodle has poultry issues too and we’ve been giving her salmon taste of the wild since she’s a puppy, she’s now 11 years old. It is grain free though but he vet has said there are no issues with it.
*I am not a dog dietitian lol
Our golden has such a sensitive stomach, and it took us months to find something that worked for him! Like others have said, Purina Pro Plan has been the best so far. He gets the sensitive skin and stomach Lamb and Oatmeal.
When our pup was a pup, we had a pen for her like the one I'm linking to on Amazon below. After she outgrew the pen and we trusted her not to go potty or chew in the house, that pen became our Christmas tree guard. We out it up around the tree every Christmas to keep our golden away, and also our two kids, aged 2 years and 2 months. We also get a real tree. This has been our pattern for the past 3 years and it's worked well! (Forgive the bad formatting, I'm on mobile).
+1. We did the same. Lots of low pile rugs secured to the floor with some form of adhesive/grip to make them stable and not move. This paw lotion works really well for us. And they get Dasuquin supplements.
Don't sweat it. I've only trained one puppy, and I definitely did a bunch of things wrong, but she still turned out amazing.
I found this book really helpful (and surprisingly interesting).
All these fancy vacuums people are suggesting do a great job, I'm sure. If you use them. Every day. But you won't. So, automatic vacuum. Preferable one that maps the room out and vacuums in an organized manner, like this.
It won't do as good a job as the Dyson but it doesn't matter, because it vacuums every day so the fur never builds up or gets ground down into the carpet. Get one of those, set it to vacuum every day, you'll never notice fur around again.
There many vacuum reviews online. There is also a vacuums subreddit. Bissell was one of the worst. The main thing you need is the proper attachment for hardfloors. I bought a new Dyson V8 from a past year for $300 and bought this floor attachment. The attachment is the most important part. I really wanted cordless so that was very important for me. I love my setup and it does a good job on the floor. It has headlights so you can use all the fur, too. If I could do it again, I would probably try to get the Dyson V10 for the larger battery but not a huge deal. Dyson and LG were the top contenders for my budget for cordless stick vacuums with pet attachment available. I'm sure there are other cheaper alternatives if you dont mind a cord. I would be very wary of Shark. They have some good models but some of them are absolutely terrible.
I would do what I did a post my use-case and budget on /r/VacuumCleaners and see what they recommend. People on here likely haven't purchased as many vacuums or understand them nearly as well. Find the vacuum the fits your needs as far as capacity, cordless/wired, or other features. Buy the trim level that has the pet attachment or verify that you can just buy the attachment.
Ask the vet if you can try a novel protein!! My boy is on venison and it’s about $30 cheaper per bag than HP. Plus we don’t have to stop by the vet each month for a bag.
I really like Nulo frontrunner (not freestyle). No peas, no legumes (both of which have been the problem with grain-free foods), a variety of ancient grains, a variety of proteins, and high caloric content per cup (so you feed less). My dogs love all Nulo flavors. It’s not a bargain but very fairly priced in comparison to comparable foods.
You might need your vet to do a deep clean of the ears and get some antibiotics to clear it up. Along with/after that I've found these war wipes to really help with preventing it getting so bad. They're really gentle so my dog doesn't mind it - in fact he seems to enjoy having his ears cleaned now.

Car hammock! Best thing for giving them space for their bed and toys, plus protecting your car.
Google & find one that fits your car. https://www.chewy.com/plush-paws-products-quilted-hammock/dp/133244
Mine was 4 months when we got him so idk about early puppy stages but oh boy did he love to chew! He ate the corners off the horn (the thing that looks like shelf on the bottom of old house windows) of one of my windows & other parts of the trim in our old house. Basically if it had a corner he was on it. To help solve that problem we used bitter apple (get some now, it will be your best friend!) And this chew bone that looks like a stick and actually has wood in it.
https://www.chewy.com/petstages-dogwood-tough-dog-chew-toy/dp/46955
Completely ate a wash rag and 2 pair of underwear.
No matter how much we tried we weren't able to break him of getting insanely excited when he meets new people. The only way he is calm is if they ignore him for awhile and the bad part is we can't train everyone to not get excited to see him. My mother is actually the worst one!
Invest in an undercoat brush now. And we personally got a shark robot vacuum to help with all the pet hair.
I was thinking of getting one of these:
Alternatively, some kind of robot vacuum.
I use thinning scissors on Taffy. She also has very long trousers and chest fur. If I didn't thin them out occasionally it would be a nightmare for us. Because they are thinning, not cutting a straight line it's not too noticeable. You just snip away till it feels less heavy without losing the shape.
The scissors look like this... https://www.amazon.com/Professional-ULG-Hairdressing-Texturizing-Detachable/dp/B0722K651D
Thundershirt and trazodone didn't work for my boy. So far the only way that works is put him in a small bathroom and run a loud floor fan next to it to drawn out the noise.
However, I'm about to try a new product called Sileo as recommended by my vet. It's a one time use product that requires a prescription.
This has been one of the best things we've bought for Frank so far...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QY4HF8W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It was great as a puppy to keep him contained, and now that he's full grown, he still hops right in and can curl up and nap on long rides.
An added bonus is that when he's not in the car, it makes for a fantastic storage bin for groceries and stuff too.
I recognize this product is pretty expensive, but we LOVE it! It's built with solid wood panels and is very sturdy. It's both a hammock and a "back seat extender," meaning our Golden has way more space to lie down. We've had it since we brought him home (so over a year now), and it's still in perfect condition.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076P9HT5K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have a 5 month old and work from home also. I would use a children's play gate for him while I worked. When he hit 3 months I removed the pen and now he just sleeps by my side as I work.
I take him for 4 walks a day (7AM, 10:30AM, 4PM, 7:30PM). It's only around the block in our neighborhood. Walk takes 10-15 min (depending how many times he finds a stick to lay down and chew on, which I give him that luxury for now).
On my lunch break, I bring him to a nearby dog park for 45 minutes (gated, off leash, can run).
My advice is to crate train him while you are doing stuff around the house 15-20 min intervals so he gets use to it. Don't respond to his barking because he will think that if he barks you let him out (cause and effect).Hopefully he gets better. Use a lick Matt and put it in the crate with him so he associates his crate with good things. Also, the children's pen might help.
Aww thanks that's probably the friendliest thing someone's said to me in a long time.
And the treats are called Greenies. They're shaped like a tooth brush
Headed to the lake soon and can't wait to bring our pup! We want to bring a pool float we can tether to the dock so he can float with us in the water instead of having to swim all day and tire himself out. We've never purchased a float for a dog before and don't know what to look for, in terms of quality/durability.
I thought the Swimways dog float was a good option, but recent reviews are suddenly all 1 star: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007AADX98/ref=twister_B09R5GP1DH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Any suggestions are very welcome! Thank you in advance!
Do not use a furminator on a Golden or other double-coated breeds! You risk permanently damaging their coat. Use an undercoat rake and a slicker brush on the top coat.

We started using the biggest round pyrex storage container for food/water bowls, too heavy to flip. I think she also didn't like seeing her reflection in the metal bowl.
My golden did this as a puppy too because he was hot and wanted the cool plastic. I got him a bed that was cooler, similar to this (but Kong brand just from PetSmart) and he loved it. I ended up putting a crate pad under it for cushion and he stopped flipping his bedding immediately.
He is so cute! We have an English cream too - he is a year and a couple of months now. He was a hyper baby who LOVED his walks too. We did a lot of tug of war type playing when he was already past his allotted walk time. He also likes moving heavy things around, which is so weird to say but hear me out! We found out that he loves dragging his soft toy bucket with like an eight pound weight in it and would wear himself out doing so around the house!

Nylabone teethers. They make all shapes and sizes. They are much softer so monitor for taking bites out of them.
Tuffy toys from here. My dogs love them because the ridges and textures on their mouths. They chew the edges. The dino is like eight or nine years old. It is mega tough. Lasted 3 puppies tough.
Kong Knots fox toy. The corduroy and rope knots are texture city. My buddy loves it.
I give my puppy a t-shirt I use for dirty projects like yard work and stink it up for a day and put it in his crate. He loves collecting my clothes for smell, too. Socks, shirts. He likes the comfort shirt. I give him one to snuggle and swap them out every week. So far he's not eaten any but I don't give him any I'd be upset if he did shred something. He keeps one scent shirt in the crate and all others are no-nos. He has actually stopped stealing my shirts and socks and now only wants to take my slippers to our other dogs beds and sleep with his face in a slipper that smells like me. Doesn't eat it. Just snuggles.
If she likes tug with cloth... give her an appropriate tuggy toy! Something she can have. I like these for tug with my puppies.
Rake and slicker.
Chris Christensen is the gold standard for slickers.
I got a teeny lil slicker brush for baby boy until he's bigger. Some puppies don't like normal slickers so start with a tipped slicker brush until they're older. Like so.
For any dog with a double coat use a wide grooming rake. These don't damage the coat and just remove loose fur.
If your dog has developed a mat or tangled from something like a nice fun roll in the mud or something, you can use a dematting tool in limited use but shouldn't be the daily brush.
Regular brushing will help with like 99.5% of matting and tangles but that time they run through mud and sticks and nasties they may need a damatting tool to help out.
Use this, but make sure to hook it on the chest not the back: PetSafe Easy Walk Dog Harness, No Pull Dog Harness, Black/Silver, X-Large (066948) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BHT5OY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_RPY5PC9SRP7NM4D7ZG94
If you're using a prong collar etc you've gone down the wrong path training-wise.
Force training (using choker chains/prong collars etc) is a very outdated method of handling animals (popular from the 1950s - 1990s.) The science and training techniques have changed.
Check out The Official Ahimsa Dog Training Manual for current statgies to train your dog in a force-free way.
I'd also suggest looking for a trainer that is up to date with the latest in dog psychology and training, and uses force-free techniques.
Good luck with it all.
Our golden as a puppy was a bit of an offender, but nothing obsessive. We were able to manage by removing from her mouth, then later when her "leave it" and "drop it" were solid, by using commands. I feel like that's the general advice given, and it is good advice....but retriever breed puppies can be on a whole different level, depending on the dog
While in this puppy stage, if your dog is truly obsessive, it might be a good idea to use something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QNWWD5P/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_dl_JNQP5BQXERTHJSKM9F9Q
It seems drastic, but we know golden owners who have used it until their dog had a reliable drop it. Worth weighing up against the possible dangerous items your dog may pick up (gum, cigarettes, glass etc)
The Gentle Leader collar was a lifesaver for my hardheaded dog! The only thing is that it looks a bit like a muzzle. It's not. https://www.chewy.com/petsafe-gentle-leader-padded-no-pull/dp/52157?gclid=CjwKCAjwopWSBhB6EiwAjxmqDcWSlE4EKOTkiz3TeLQrwMBOIYo8xst3xseJQLe6XQz0D6gYncgDFxoCKxgQAvD_BwE
Ok, so I am going through this exact thing right now with my 12 week old golden. It is TOUGH! Mine won’t stop biting all of our family members. This is what we are using at recommendation of the trainer.
He was extremely nippy, non aggressive biting but constant biting leaving all of us with blood drawn and scars. This wasn’t aggressive in the way he was with food which was snarling, growling and lunging while biting.

I guess saying she tried to recreate the situation may not be 100% accurate. She put the dog in situations where perhaps he would get possessive of food and he never did.
Saying to wear a muzzle just isn’t possible. He is around my kids all the time.
It can be exasperating, but like others have said she's young. Commands aren't going to 'sink-in' very well right now. Just work on avoiding messes in the house, playing with her and little treats when she listens. You'll also want to give her an outlet for physical energy (like slow walks in the park). Work on the simple stuff first.
There is a very good general book that you may wish to get. It's cheap but filled with very simple advice for puppies.
I hope this doesn't break the mod rules. https://www.amazon.com/SuperPuppy-Raise-Best-Youll-Ever/dp/1886056013/ref=sr_1_1?crid=849HV40P3NMO&keywords=Super+Puppy&qid=1647450969&sprefix=super+puppy%2Caps%2C120&sr=8-1
This is the closest I've been able to find and it's not totally what I'm looking for 😕
I have this one in my outback and it works very well. My rear seats a folded down 95% of the time because it's only him riding with me most of the time. It hooks to the front seat headrests and covers the entire length and width of the outback's rear compartment.

I have been using it everyday for over 2 years and it has proven very durable.
I have this one from Chewy in the backseat of my Jeep Compass. I love that he can’t roll off the seat, it’s waterproof in case of accidents, and it does a good job of keeping hair off the seats (a lot of it slides down onto the floor mats and I vacuum it once a week).
If I were buying a new one, I would look for a mesh insert at the front because this one blocks the air vents to the back seat and he gets hot back there on longer trips and we have to direct our front vents to the back. Bonus if it turns up at the side to protect the door - after three years mine are covered in drool that’s getting harder and harder to clean off. Something like this function wise.
I would not put my dog in the way back (“trunk”) of a crossover because there’s no airflow.
I cannot find the exact one I got a couple years ago, but this one looks to be very similar
Soap-free shampoo has been a lifesaver for our goldens at the recommendation of the vet. That and REALLY good rinsing after washing them. This one has worked better than the expensive prescription shampoos (and smells better): Pro Pet Works Organic 5 in 1 Oatmeal Dog Shampoo and Conditioner-Grooming Supplies for Smelly Dogs-Tearless Blend for Dandruff Allergies & Itchy Dry Sensitive Skin https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018FGSTT4/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_1110TX8PCP5SFDZRWRAG
Haha this video is like the puppy version of birth control that everyone should see to know what you’re in for - like when you see small children screaming in a store. Feel like every puppy does this. It’s tough but worth it in the end.
how to house break your puppy in just 7 days by Ken Phillips worked well for me
And so did the puppy bible by Claire Arrosmith and Alison Smith.
My last golden had really itchy skin. We had tried oatmeal shampoo, prescription itch shampoo, over the counter itch shampoo… I finally got a suggestion from a vet to find soap-free shampoo. It worked great! And still very foamy despite being “soap free”. Though with all that golden fur, the jug probably isn’t a terrible idea!)
That's a hot spot. I've had good results using sulfur products with my dogs for minor wounds and hot spots (found this at local feed store).

I just got them off of Amazon. They do a great job at keeping the snow and ice from building up between his toes. He was a little weary of them at first, but after a few trips out in the snow, he happily lets us put them on him. I know some dogs find them very uncomfortable in which case musher’s wax can be a good alternative.

What really helped Archie make proper poop was probiotics along with any food that you give. He is on prescription diet ( hydrolyzed Probiotic powderprotein) since he was a 4 mos, but the probiotic was what helped regulate his bowels.
Get an undercoat brush - link here as an example from Amazon.
Also, buy a vacuum that is good for dog hair. A Dyson cordless stick vacuum will make everyday touch up easy. They are wonderful family members so just power thru the shedding (it's not all year) and enjoy the love.
I did my research on vacuums bc the dog hair & cat hair was getting out of hand and i was tired of going through the crappy vaccums and the robot floor vacs. The Shark Pet Navigator ZU62 Zero-M is what I chose. The Zero M means Zero Maintenance and so far it’s true. The roller does not get stuck with hair or fur and all we have to do is empty the canister. It has a green or red light to show if the roller does get clogged. It was about $220 on Amazon—But the best part is, it comes with attachments you can vacuum your golden with!

Couple times per year. But I couldn't live without a rake (like this https://www.amazon.com/Maxpower-Planet-Pet-Grooming-Brush/dp/B07P2N8HQH/ref=sr_1_2?crid=24XNB4W8W9SSA&keywords=dog+rake&qid=1642611723&sprefix=dog+rake%2Caps%2C92&sr=8-2).

Using a brush, then that, then blowing them out will remove a ton of fur.
Agree, but choke collar sounds bad, I always call them correction collars, even though choke collar the right name. No pulling necessary, most dogs, even pups walk out till it starts to become tight, then immediately stop. Within a short time they’re heeling next to you, and you’ve barely given a tug. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BCQZBP9/ref=cm\_sw\_em\_r\_mt\_dp\_H2T2WVA1ZKDFVQDFP0XQ
