try mixing it with a tasty treat, like a one of those squeeze pack smoothie baby food products. Give him some of the smoothie without antibiotics in it first, to get him wanting more, then offer the antibiotic smoothie mix. After, give a watery veg like cucumber or lettuce, to rinse the sugar out of their mouth (sugar is bad for teeth!). Dont forget to get probiotics for your pig! Once a day during the antibiotic therapy, and continue for two weeks after theyve finished the antibiotics. Guinea pigs intestinal flora is VERY important for their health, and antibiotics kill off some of it, so its important to replace it! This is the best probiotic, 1/4tsp mixed with tasty treat (like plain canned pumpkin) or sprinkled over moist veggies.
Build a 2x4 C&C cage! It's cheap, easy, and lasts a lifetime. I did it for my two little guys while I was broke in college. And even in my tiny college apartment, I found the space. I put it on a cheap table from Walmart, threw a tablecloth (or maybe it was an old curtain from the dollar store...) over it, and used that space beneath for storage.
Or if you don't want to build, just buy this 2x4 Midwest habitat on Amazon. It's only $35. It makes a NIGHT AND DAY difference in a guinea pig's quality of life. Please!
Enjoy the new piggy. :) I got dogs after my pigs, but I miss the pigs all the time. They're wonderful creatures.

This looks amazing! I wanted to share this because it has made my life SO EASY!
They keep your floors safe and are easy to shake hay out of and get completely clean in the wash (no more smelly mats) The best part, they are HUGE!! Just thought I’d share 🙃
It looks like it is a bent grid that is normally used when people build their cavy cages :-) those grids are pretty versatile! Just have to be wary of the size of the holes because some are larger than others.

I bought some vegetarian vitamin C tablets for my pigs years ago. It was like Crack to them. My guinea rescue recommended it.

I bought a little like manger off amazon I've been super happy with, keeps the hay up and neat but prevents climbing inside. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XGGKH8T/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This is the sku I ordered. They seem to have changed it slightly. Mine had a plain top not log cabin look.
Small is not the only problem as this type of aquarium “cage” provides poor air circulation which is the main reason why so many pet store piggies comes home with upper respiratory infection (which is highly contagious and fatal if not treated with antibiotics from a vet). So definitely get an appropriate and sufficient sized cage for your piggies as soon as possible. You could get a Midwest Habitat for your piggies for a fairly inexpensive amount off Amazon as it's only $49.99 via Prime:
While bowls are more natural, they are not a great option for many due to how quickly they get dirty. With the amount of mess my piggies make, I would be having to change out the water 10+ times per day, which just isn't possible. Therefor, most owners use bottles. That being said there are options like this that some people like, which gives a somewhat mixture of both.
One of these: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003SZSVCI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Super easy to set up and take down. But you have to know if the grass has been treated with anything. If it has, it's not safe for your piggies.
I got my cnc grids off Amazon for about 35$ if I’m remembering right, I really like them! My cage is 5ftx2 ft (roughly) and we used zip ties to hold everything together so it would be tighter than the clasps it came with.
What’s funny is the cages aren’t what the product was intended for, but a lot of reviews are pictures of peoples guinea pig cages lol

Just in case you ever want to look for them :)
I switched about two weeks ago and it’s awesome! I was spending so much money on bedding, plus I was sick of the mess. I ordered two fleece blankets on amazon from : here. It seems expensive to spend around $50 for a fleece blanket but so worth it. You can also make your own at a fabric store but I’m lazy and just bought these. They are really well made. You definitely have to wash them 2-3 times and do NOT use laundry additives like fabric softener or dryer sheets. Once the water wicks they work way better, which I discovered after the third washing. I have coroplast underneath my fleece, and use puppy pads under the fleece where my pigs pee the most. On the other areas I just use old towels. I do think using puppy pads helps to eliminate the pee smell. It says you only have to change the fleece once per week but I usually wash it after 4 days just because my girls are slobs and spread their food everywhere. Other redditers said to get a hand vac to sweep up poops so I bought one, but it’s way easier just to put on disposable gloves and pick out the poops by hand. Before I wash the fleece I give them a good shake outside to get rid of hay and the fur before throwing it in the wash. I also found that if you cover one end of your cage and have a cozy dark area, your pigs will poop over there way more. I put my girls’ hay over there and although they still occasionally poop all over the cage, the highest poop area is in the dark covered area. I just used an old towel with binder clips to make a dark area. I can definitely say it is so much nicer than bedding and smells better, too. Oh, and definitely buy white vinegar-toss in 1/2 cup with the fleece when washing and it gets rid of the pee smell. Hope that helps!
I would not recommend it. Guinea pigs need a minimum of 8.5 square feet for one and 10 square feet for two. And guinea pigs air circulation is not great in something glass like that. There are actually even cheaper alternatives to the detolf! There are these things called C and C grids (its original intent was a shelving unit...). They come with connectors that you can make any shape out of them. Here's a link in the US. https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Cube-Storage-Shelves-Black/dp/B0735CKD6R/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=grid+shelving+unit&qid=1600552906&sr=8-1
Here is an example of a raised C&C, they are incredibly sturdy. As long as the grids are 9x9 (9 little squares across each grid) they won’t get their heads stuck unless they are tiny babies. And you can style them to make them look quite nice!
Otherwise, a midwest cage would do well, and you can also link two together. Either of these options are typically a lot cheaper than the smaller mainstream pet store cages, too!
I have a rubber broom like this one to sweep it into a pile, pick up the big pieces by hand, and vacuum the rest.
Link to the US equivalent for those interested:
They're shipped directly from Amazon, rather than China like their CA counterparts. The reviews contain tons of pictures with actual pigs in them for size reference.
I got a staybowl from amazon. Sorry if my formatting is off, I'm not very good at it.
Thank you! Took me all day to build this monster! I ordered this hidey from Amazon, it was a little pricey but I thought it was a lot smaller, totally worth the money tho, it's huuuuge! They love it! You can put hay between the bars and all - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XCRCSZT?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
There are bags. Here’s a link https://www.amazon.com/Wheeky-Laundry-Helper-Midwest-Rabbits/dp/B07H44VZLN My mother always complains that the washer gets hair and the occasional poop. This bag has really helped me!
Pearhead have these inkless paw print pads for dogs and cats. I don't know if it will work for tiny piggie paws, but the kits seem to be relatively affordable if you want to try?
I used these storage “cubes” (not actually cubes so it comes with 3 different sizes of panels but it turned out nice that way) and corrugated plastic

Both of my pigs love the pouches!! They just settle in. :) I've made my own before, but I bought this particular pouch on Etsy! Here's the link to the shop.
If you do end up buying it from that Etsy seller, you can use code "GUINEAPIGS11" for 15% off. That promo code was listed on a business card from a previous order I made.
This is what I use! It's like liquid crack to my pigs, though I've heard there are some pigs that don't care much for it. Might be worth a shot!

I’d recommend using zip ties to fasten it so it’ll have a tighter hold than the clamps that it comes with. You can go to Home Depot for a large sheet of coroplast (corrugated plastic) for the bottom part of the cage for about 20-22$. If you don’t cut it all the way through (using a box cutter) you can bend the sides to make a nice little tray. Use puppy pads on the bottom, and get fleece liners (reusable and way cheaper than buying bedding all the time) and you’re set!
Here’s a more in depth tutorial so you can see what I mean.
Of course, you don’t have to do this! Just as long as they have enough room for the both of them I’m sure whatever you use will be great :)

We use these and put fleece blankets in the bottom. Ramps are included and the waterproof bottom is excellent. We have 4 now for our 4 pigs. Simply excellent product.
It took me forever but I found it! It’s this one. https://www.amazon.com/LilPals-W6201-Pals-Shedding-Comb/dp/B000O3EJNW/ref=mp_s_a_1_17?dchild=1&keywords=lil+pals&qid=1603845410&sr=8-17 It is easy to hold (at least for me... I have small hands lol). It’s not too bad expensive. It also works great for removing my pigs shedding hair because they shed year round. Also, it prevents matting. It goes through their hair pretty smoothly and removes like tangles and such. It is fine toothed though so it works like a charm! I feel like I’m advertising lol. This is my favorite brush to use though.
We stick little amazon boxes in their house with hidey holes cut out on each side. They have fun chewing on them and running through them.
We also got ours this crinkle tube on amazon that they love. We mostly use it during floor time because one of ours likes to camp out in it and pee everywhere if it stays in their manor. (Also warning that it can be a little loud when they run through it - like a plastic bag rustling).
Mine have never been interested in actual toys, they just like being able to play hide and seek with each other.
I got them from Amazon! I was so afraid of them eventually getting bumble foot from the grids. Here's a link to the one I bought!

I built a C & C cage and my own coroplast bottom from Home Depot after having my two girls in a store cage temporarily. They are WAY happier now! Some tips:
Buy the biggest piece of coroplast you can. If you live in the US, Home Depot sells a big piece for under $20. This is in case you mess up like I did! Measure, measure, measure. Lots of good videos on google on how to cut the coroplast. Use a good box cutter or invest in the $5 tool at Home Depot.
I also switched to fleece bedding. I don’t know who only washes their fleece once a week because it seems I am washing mine 2x a week. It starts to smell a little “farm animaly” around day 4 for me. I just use puppy pads from Costco underneath. $16 for 100, and you will have to replace them twice a week too for the smell. I did notice an uptick in my electricity bill, but nowhere near what I was spending on bedding. You will have to wash in hot water with vinegar or Oxi Clean, and definitely invest in a horse laundry bag (sold on Amazon) to wash it so the guinea pig hair isn’t flying all over the place: sample .
I truly believe fleece is way better for their sensitive lungs because the paper fibers aren’t flying all over the place. I bought my fleece online on Amazon as well, but you can make your own, too.
For the cage, Target or Walmart or Home Depot sell them as well. Just make sure the grid holes are small enough that your piggies won’t get stuck in them. I have fat girls so it’s not a problem for them. Definitely invest in cable ties to connect your grids because it makes it more sturdy.
Overall my pigs seem WAY happier with the switch. The first time your little ones popcorn all over and do zoomies, you will realize it was worth the effort ❤️❤️❤️
The cage you linked, the Midwest Habitat as well as this AmazonBasics version, which is the cheapest among the 3, are all the same style and size. Again, they are modular and you can chain multiple of them together to make for a bigger space. On the Midwest and Amazon ones specifically, I would leave out the middle divider pieces. The All Living Things one does not appear to use those.
I found one on amazon by googling ‘happy pills guinea pig shirt’. Happy Pills Guinea Pig https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FV4XLL6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_yVInFbPEHBRCF I hope sending links is allowed here lol
I found a really cheap but super high quality hay on amazon, it's 12 pounds for just under 20$ USD, and it's fantastic quality. My girls love it. link:
Here's 1 link for the Rosewood Nature's Salad on Amazon. Although it's normally priced at $5 or less. You can usually get it at a local Walmart for $4 or less too... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0026ROIH6/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_aZOCEbQX5R50Y
I use washable dog pads. They are great and the hay sweeps right up. They come in different sizes and color and they are reasonably priced.

Sometimes during the winter we grow a bit of grass in a small tray or even a paper plate with moist paper towels by a window. A small bag of wheat grass seed is pretty cheap with no worries about weeds/pesticides/etc., and my boys always go bonkers for it. Hope your girl comes around soon - keep on trying.
Here's where I got some growing tips: http://www.instructables.com/id/Grow-your-own-wheatgrass/ But you can Google something like "growing grass for guinea pigs" if you want more info. =)
Not a problem..And yes it's ALWAYS a good idea to make them feel as safe as possible and a guinea pig is a natural burrower :) I have read that sometimes (their labor is this easy LUCKY) they will be munching on a carrot as happy as can be and they will pop a pup out...(I believe they are called pups).
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/When_Do_You_Know_When_Your_Guinea_Pig_s_Going_Into_Labor
Very good information for you to know :)
While this is about spinach, the main idea still remains. Cool water and gentle scrubbing with your hands/vegetable brush and good sanitary technique (clean hands, clean kitchen, clean utensils) is key. If you're still iffy, switch to green and/or red leaf lettuce for the time being!

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08T5RGC1W/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_9ZHGEGNYBYKAAF95AE0H?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I use these and they’re less than half the price of the guinea dad mats and honestly they work fine - mine have lasted at least 4 probably 5 months now and are still in great shape -(I have a young boar so they see their fair share of various mistreatments)- I just change them every 3-4 days (at the most - and I have one piggy - people who say to change the liner once a week are delirious - if it smells bad to you from even 2 feet away - remember that their noses are an inch off the ground) and sweep up every day (if you leave out pee covered hay it will rot in the cage). If they start coming out of the laundry smelling funky, smell around on the mat for the offending sections, put vinegar and baking soda onto them, let it sit for like a half hour, and wash them out.
The hybrid method works for me (I originally started as fleece only, then fleece and litter trays and finally settled on this method), so I guess I would recommend it! If you end up using fleece beddings I suggest you buy a 'pet washing bag' to wash your guinea pig stuff in, that way all loose hay and hair stays in the bag instead of your washing machine! Also (you might know this already but just in case) remember to wash the fleece before first use with mild detergent and never use fabric conditioner for the guinea pig wash, use distilled/white vinegar in the conditioner compartment.
Based on the size of your cage, I would choose one end of the cage (the darker/safer side) and use fleece/cardboard/coroplast to cover up an area between 23x12 and 23x16 (including the top and as much as the sides as you can). This will likely be where the guinea pigs feels safest and go to rest and do their toilet business, so you can use that as your recycled paper pellet and hay area. You could put a liner down to help clear out afterwards or put the pellets directly on the cage, or use large corner litter trays (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0009586OS/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1) in the corners (which is where they are most likely to wee/poo, so that would help with cleaning!). Put a mound of hay in the middle of this area (away from corners) but make sure they also have a hay rack or similar with fresh hay (although mine prefer to eat the hay from the floor). There will inevitably be some spillage of hay into the fleece part, but this can be reduced if you wish, by adding a little branch of wood along the fleece/litter boundary and you can easily brush any escaped hay/pellets back to their area as part of your daily spot cleaning with dustpan and brush.
Hope this helps!
i personally recommend this one -> Guinea Habitat Guinea Pig Cage by Midwest https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001NJ0DQ8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_X02X8WK73KH38FQ23NHR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
i understand if its not what you’re looking for, but i highly recommend :) you can also buy a second one if you have more than 2 piggies! i dont know a lot about the grid panel cages, so no advice there lol 😅
i have several of these hideys for my piggies, and they love sleeping in them. i would also suggest getting the large depending on how much room you want:
They’re washable pee pads for dogs. They’re nonslip and waterproof and come in a bunch of different sizes. I’ve been using them for over two months and I’m in love. Hay tends to stick to them because of the kinda clingy material but they’re pretty lightweight, super absorbent and haven’t leaked at all.

i use this one and it keeps the cage pretty clean! it’s also easy for the pigs to eat if you place the hay vertically so it’s poking out
https://www.amazon.com/andwe-Cylindrical-Feeding-Manager-Chinchilla/dp/B07YBDVV6H
To buy, I’d suggest this. It really helps my board calm down. It has lavender and chamomile mixed in with Timothy Hay.
As others mentioned, fleece cage liners are expensive up front but save you a lot of money in the long run. I have a few liners that are 4+ years old that are still going strong after literally hundreds of washes. You can also make your own for rather cheap using thrift store blankets or fleece remnant sales at fabric stores, with Uhaul pads or cotton batting as interior absorbent lining.
To keep it from mucking the washer, I shake out the fleece outside into a large trash bin over the backyard lawn, then put the fleece all in a jumbo mesh laundry bag (like this one) to be washed in. I dry it in the dryer without the mesh bag since the dryer filter will catch anything left.
I know they are prone to getting a little chilly if you live in a cold area, ideal heat range is 65-75 for piggies so if it gets below that just be wary. Provide cloth hideys like snuggle sacks or something like these (I have 2 of these, they're great) so they can stay warm.
Bedding matters a lot for skinnys too, you want to avoid wood shaving or paper bedding as it can irritate/scratch their belly. Fleece bedding is best if you don't already use that.
The cage you currently have is not big enough for two piggies (or even for one, I would say). Without a lot of space, I find setting up a playpen for some floor time helpful—give them space to run around a bit every day. C&C cages are great because they’re inexpensive and can be any size or shape as you get to set them up how you want. I would suggest setting one up in a formation similar to this if you’re short on floor space. You could set it up on a cheap fold table if you would prefer it to be off the ground!
But for sure give your piggies more room, the cage you have right now is way too small for them. And invest in some small animal fences (this is what I use) as temporary floor set ups for floor time!
We went nuts with our hideys and pampered our girls. For hideys and tunnels, we went with https://etsy.me/321xVNe. We also have ikea doll beds that they use and sleep on top of. We have “snacc tunnels” that they also love: Lixit Critter Hollow Home for Guinea Pigs, Rats and Other Small Animals https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00OHU8TW0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_A8DVANWGKXC3F939VTXA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
If you have a cat, probably a closed top :) we have cats but we don't let them in our bedroom with our guinea pig cage. I used these panels:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q5Y5FQ3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
And made a 3'x4' (yeah sorry I meant feet) and I have a cage sitting inside the panels for them to go into to get shade, because they are in front of a window.
Under the panels I just put an absorbent fleece blanket with towels underneath, and I sweep their poops up every morning, and wash the blankets every week. I find it easier than bedding, which is annoying in my opinion haha
I just bought C&C gridding off Amazon, I think it’s really easy to work with and lets me change things around as I go.
Something like this would be the same, obviously just pick out however much you may need!
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07RRDQ7LX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_iYlcGb12WC9HQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I found these which look similar but it's the only thing I can seem to find that resembles the crazy shakers and ships to UK
I'm so happy to hear it was something simple! However I wouldn't use the vitadrops in the water. It can change the taste of the water and you want your pigs to have fresh water with nothing else in it. If you have pigs that are picky you can try these.
This is also a good video to watch with regards to vitamin c for guinea pigs.
So glad your pig is okay ❤

Yes! They are meant to be warmed up.
Here's the one we have for the pigs. We also have larger ones for kids and grown ups.
When our other boar, Hamilton, was fixed I sent the large one (we call it a Warm Friend) and the techs warmed it up for him. They ended up buying a couple just to have around the office.

Just ordered this one, hope it’s big enough! I’m more or less looking for something for two when he’s grown! The enclosure my sister has is a bit small for even just the one, and Wilson has a temporary enclosure until that time.
I believe she has this one (link below). It looks very similar to it anyways and I know she said she got it off Amazon. I know when I asked her to put the cage in her daughter’s room for the day she just told me it wasn’t that easy because it doesn’t have a solid bottom and would need to be disassembled and reassembled which was too much work.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JHK375E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_hYjTFb97ZAJFX
I've used this one for years with no problems. My piggy's like it and the cord cover is metal so they can't chew through it. I also like how it has a pressure sensor in it. So the pad only activates when they sit on it. This way you can leave it plugged in without the worry of it over heating.
Also, do you intend on buying another? These animals need a companion. Some may get depressed abs give up, stop eating, die.. or get aggressive and begin to bite you. Please read up on introducing guinea pigs and quarantining new ones for 2-3 weeks before you put them in a cage together. decent cage
These pads are pretty affordable and come in a few sizes. We had to buy two sizes to cover the whole bottom of our Midwest cage.

I have that same pen. I bought 2 off Amazon and connected them. Gives my girls about 10 square feet or so! Ran me about $20.
Hm, lighter colors are usually best for blankets. How often are you washing them? I toss mine after awhile they kinda get nasty. Theres plenty of ways to get large pieces of fleece relatively cheap (depending on where you are, I am in Boston). I use the wee wee pad gigantic pads from amazon. Heres a link to see my set up:) http://imgur.com/gallery/maX3w https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004GWSIJ8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
As u/motivatingguineapig mentioned, fleece is super-convenient if you have reliable access to a washer/dryer. However, don't allow that to be a negative if you do not. If you are concerned about hay/fur in a washing machine. You can use a horse blanket wash bag. Amazon has this bag available.
Fleece is super-economical. It lasts a very long time and is environmentally friendly. I've been using the same fleece for over four years. You just have to decide what works best. If you have access to a sewing machine, you may decide to make your own custom pads. If you don't want to bother making your own, there are plenty of etsy shops that sell products for guinea pigs.
My cage set up is basically fleece with a puppy training pad in the middle (I have to wrap the puppy pads because my girls will chew on them), then on top of that I have a custom floor piece I made with an absorbent core. On top of that I have strategically located pads made with the same absorbent core. It really helps to have two sets so that when one is dirty, the other is clean.
I poop sweep twice a day (once in the morning, and then another in the afternoon), replace on-top pads mid-week and the whole cage is cleaned once a week.
Good luck!
They sell a calming spray in animal shops (I bought mine at pets at home), it's kind of a room spray with calming herbs and soft aromas. I tried them on my piggies and it seems to work. Maybe it would help to avoid a fight when they start to be hostile... Here's an Amazon link, in case you want to check it: Pet Remedy Calming Spray, 200 ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007ZYRABG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pVsmDbP3YVSVT
I wanted to know, too. Found it on Amazon.

I’ve had these ones for three years and love them! I wash them weekly. They have lasted forever plus they have cute patterns. You can get them in different sizes. I also love Guinea Dad Blankets
If you can afford it, a small dehumidifier would do the trick. I keep this one in the piggy room which really helped keep humidity down, but there are cheaper options that I'm sure would work too.
Make sure to give probiotics an hour or two after giving the Baytril as antibiotics tends to kill off all the good gut bacteria. Probiotic helps restore the good gut bacteria. Probiotic of choice would be Benebac, the gel version, which is currently $5.39 for a 15 gram tube off of Amazon. Make sure to get the one I’m linking below as it’s made for small pets/guinea pigs as there is a different version made for reptiles and one for birds. Give 1 gram each time, you’ll be dosing Baytril twice a day so you’ll be dosing the Benebac twice a day as well. There is a powder version which is cheaper but I find it’s not as effective and I believe it has some extra ingredients in it that might not be good for guinea pigs so stick with the gel version below.
One more thing I wanted to add is that antibiotics affects each piggies differently. While one piggy may show side effect due to Baytril, another one might not show any at all. Do keep in mind that if your piggies do get worst after a 2-3 days of being on Baytril then let your vet know as antibiotic intolerance is a real thing and could be detrimental to their health.
I think it may be too late for this coroplast base, but if you were to get a new one, you could line the edges with binder bars to prevent them from chewing it.
Don’t have personal experience with bloat, but I’ve seen children’s gas drops recommended, like in this vid. That channel has a bunch other videos on bloat you can watch.
The idea is to give a small dose, I think half the dose for babies, and then massage and shake their tummy to help the gas escape. I would just make sure the medicine the doctor gave doesn’t interact with the gas drops, and to get gas drops without pain medication.
If the doctor said to avoid vegetables for now, I think that’s fine. Like fuzzyobjective said, you can give him vitamin C supplements to make up for it. I like to give 1cc of liquid vit C a day.
We really like this hay rack. Less mess!

This is the whelping pad. We love it! We called sign shops and in our area Home Depot was less expensive. $20 for 48 X 96.

Got the grids from Amazon, if you are looking into it, try searching up something along the lines of shelving grids, here is the one I ordered
I have this one off Amazon! Been working great for 8months I’ve had it!
Oh, and also try out hanging the bottle on a slant? I’ve seen the Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue YT channel use that as a situation, and it supposedly helps but I never had a dripping issue, worth a shot if ya don’t want to purchase another bottle!
Good luck! :)
Regular water in unlimited amounts is fine do not add vitamin c to the water. I spoil my pigs and give them spring water which is pretty cheap to buy a gallon of and you don’t have to worry about weird tap water (my apartment has terrible water). A guinea pig is like 1/100 the size of a human so excessive drinking water minerals and metals from pipes may be harmful but not totally sure.
Vitamin C is essential and they depend on it don’t assume they get it from food just buy the oxbow supplement they all are great but the vitamin c is needed and can be found on amazon or the pet store. 1 tablet a day per pig is 25mg, some say they need more but that plus a healthy diet should be fine. Oh and yes acid is bad for their mouths thats why you shouldn’t feed them orange more than a small amount checkout this to help determine what foods are good or bad.
I use a carpet. It is not an artificial grass. So they can't eat it. When they urinate on it, it absorbs quickly. Therefore I do not suffer from the smell. I bought it on Amazon. Here is the link:
This is exactly the one I use in the guinea pig cage. I had to cut the carpet with a utility knife. I also bought 2 rolls. So that when cleaning the cage I can clean the dirty ones and put the clean ones in it. I also put some newspapers under the carpet. So that it absorbs even more.
I purchased two of these Amazon Grids and I was able to make a 2X5 cage and boosted it up to have storage underneath so it looks like this. And of course you can always jig it up a little and put a lid over top of their enclosure to protect them from your other pets!
Hope that helps! DM me if you have any more questions :) I also have coroplast measurements for a 2x5 cage too !!
The ones we use (UK) are called Supreme Selective. We also use Burgess Excel eg

5 year old guinea pig, I also would not jump to any type of surgery. If the maintenance is keeping him okay, I would stay with this. You can try to use a kids soft tooth brush to get rid of any trapped hay, etc. I doubt you will find anything guinea pig specific. Maybe you can also try the flossing sticks that people with permanent retainers have to use, something like this:
That powder is styptic powder. I know you can find it on amazon if you can't find it anywhere else. I know some people have said they use flour or corn starch if they don't have any styptic powder on hand, but I haven't personally used anything but the real stuff so I can't say how well that works.
Something like these.
I found a link to the ones I have on amazon here. They have a lot of other nuggets in their rage with added vitamin C just give it a search on there :)
I use a styptic pencil when I cut my cats claws just in case. When I had pigs I did the same thing. Accidents happen, just be as careful as you can!
another option i've used if you'd like the metal instead of plastic. the holes on this are very thin/small, and i like the aesthetic when you rotate the walls (vs their pic) to make it not look like a jail cell lol
this is the pawprint kit my vet used when my baby passed away. it has all the instructions in it and everything, and its relatively cheap. :) you just have to be very careful pressing the paws into it because you can hurt the piggy. hope this helps
Hi! There is a way around this situation if you choose to go with fleece.
Purchase a horse blanket wash bag. You can put your messy fleece items in it for the wash, and it will trap any errant pieces of hay/fur - whatever. This stuff won't get in the washer or dryer.
My washing machine has a cleaning cycle that I use after the pig laundry. I wash all human laundry first and then the pig laundry, and after it is finished, I run the cleaning cycle.
