there is some progress in porting LÖVE to android (https://love2d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4270&sid=f8ff6a6b15b06192020814d60a6ca9c8), and I wouldn't be shocked if it happened before Hawkthorne is finished (given that Android is based on Linux), so I think it makes far more sense to wait and see if LÖVE is done than to switch platforms now.
Hawkthorne doesn't natively support the USB NES controllers yet. I, too bought one, only to find it's a literal joystick.
That being said, I do have an experimental branch of code with joystick support that I am actively working on finishing. Hopefully to be done within the next week or two.
In the meantime, you can use a piece of software in the middle that will allow you to map joystick input to keystrokes. Here is an article talking about how to do it in Windows
I made the original, and here's what it's supposed to sound like.
I posted this in the update thread that first included the horrible-quality version of the song too, but some 80 comments had already been posted and no one saw it.
I used the free program FamiTracker.
I also used a template of an already-made arrangement by some guy on youtube. His arrangment already had specific instruments, the basic form, and drum samples that I used to make this track.
I'm not sure what the best method would be. The levels are generated from tmx
files and you could therefore load them in Tiled and screenshot from there, although that won't load in enemies, NPCs or even buildings sometimes depending on how the level was created.
I think my strategy would be to open up the game and screenshot as I go and then stitch those screenshots into a larger screenshot and edit out the HUD. Messy, but that's the best recommendation I think I have. I can help out a little if you need it.
Gods speed. It looks like there are some people already working to get Löve working on RPi, but you will probably have to compile it for the ARM architecture, and it sounds like you may run into video issues, since the drivers may not be doing hardware acceleration yet.
Very interested to see how this goes though! Good luck!
A .zip file is a compressed file. Try right clicking on it, and choosing "Extract" ( or similar ).
Alternately, you can install the Löve framework ( you probably have windows 32bit ) and then download hawkthorne.love and then just double click on that.
You wouldn't believe how tremendously grateful I am that you and your team put in such time and effort to make something like this. And it seems that it couldn't have been released at a better time, the finale of the series left a sad empty feeling of "what now?". But finding something like this on the sub-reddit is like your parents getting you ice cream after you broke a bone. At any other time that ice cream would just be okay, but after all the trauma from previous events it's even more sweet and refreshing. I'm rambling, but it's because I'm so psyched! I still haven't played, I opened it up and when I got to the title screen, I was overwhelmed with excitement. I closed the window and made a desktop shortcut, I then proceeded to spend way too much time making the perfect icon to complete the effect. I chose the Abed one, but I have the Troy & Abed one too if it suits you better. Enjoy, friends!
Good lord, it sounds awful. I'm the guy who made the original version, <strong>here's a high-quality download.</strong> Somebody get a better version in the game, stat.
(You guys can access that link, right?)
Something odd happens when you walk up next to those boxes added in the lab...It's psychedelic for sure, but probably still a bug. Happens on iOS X 10.8
I'm having trouble with Github, so here's a dropbox link:

Just copy/paste the files into src/maps. I added a door at the beginning of Village Forest 2 that transports you to the dark level.
I don't use retropie but with a quick google it seems as though you are able to install different version of LOVE on retropie. Maybe you can use that same process but switch out the LOVE version for 0.9.1
It seems I misremembered. The real auto-updater is here: https://love2d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=480
It is a library called DILDo (I know, I know). Most of the attachments have been taken by aliens (long story), but that one link still works at least.
LBP had something similar, but it wasn't auto-updating: you could download custom user-made levels and it had a mechanism for automatically downloading the right dependencies.
That's unfortunately not really possible, because the game can't assume it's stored somewhere it can write to. That's why LÖVE has the save directory, which is a place programs are supposed to be able to write in (see https://love2d.org/wiki/love.filesystem)
If you want, you can copy the hawkthorne
save directory along with the game, but you need to do that manually.
Oh, sorry. Just got this message, my bad. :/
Basically, when I try to make a pull request and publish a new branch, I get an error saying that it failed to publish. I read a guide saying to open a shell and type in "git push" then type whatever it suggests, but then that failed because it can't connect with the URL for some reason, and it says "403 error, http request failed".
I was trying to show Derferman the progress I was making on my "darkest timeline levels" idea, so I uploaded the map files to a dropbox here instead. If you want to look at it, just copy/paste the files into src/maps. I added a door at the beginning of Village Forest 2 that transports you to the harder version of the level.
So from looking online it is highly likely that your windows profile is corrupted, I would recommend downloading 7-zip and using it to extract the archive as opposed to the default windows extractor. Additionally you could try the solution posted here
To address the cause of the problem I highly recommend performing a virus scan.
Let me know how it goes!
I've done a bunch of tests in the last few months to get hawkthorne running natively on a raspberry pi. I'm working on creating a custom hawkthorne themed game console, similar to the one in the show. I've had the best luck with pilove (even got it running on a pi zero) but also some luck with lakka. Let me know how it works for you
http://tinypic.com/r/331zitu/6 At this area I sometimes glitch (not just as Jeff) when I jump onto the high platform then walk back, I stop walking or glitch as in walking left and right for a second. Hardly noticeable though.
Thanks! For future people who find this thread, here is what I did with windows 7:
1). I downloaded love.
2). I downloaded and installed this program to get the make.exe
3). Control panel -> System and Security -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Environment Variables. Then, choose the path variable, add ; at the end, add the path to the directory that make.exe is in. While you're at it, add the paths to your zip.exe and unzip.exe too.
4). Go to the hawkthorne-journey directory, make sure there isn't a folder called "-p" or "build," command prompt "make," and it should build. The hawkthorne.love file will be in the new build directory.
I haven't looked at the text editors yet. I'll look at them tomorrow. Thanks for your help!
A quick google search revealed an experimental LÖVE port for iOS.
I don't have an iOS device, but you may not need to look much further.
if you're right, they lied
> 0.9.1's API is fully backward compatible with existing 0.9.0 games.
EDIT: you're right because we have a requirement for it.
Currently the sounds are in .ogg and .wav formats, but this LÖVE wiki page lists other formats. From that page, though: >Note, however, that Ogg seems to be the only format which plays back without any problems.
I don't know if some people are missing the joke so I'll just point it out:
This is a very specific parody of Super Mario World, which for some unexplained reason had these random phallic mountains in the background of a bunch of levels.
http://www.listal.com/viewimage/1276861
The color scheme was tweaked to make it a little extra gay, but the joke is that you see it and, if you're like me and you played this game non-stop as a kid, you laugh when you realize, "Wow, Super Mario World was pretty fucking gay." Dinosaur Island was the original Gay Island!
I think the mountains could use some of that reflected light effect like in Super Mario World - the penis mountains in Super Mario World look a little gayer for it because they look shiny and glistening.
