Helped a lot of homeless out and someone in this sub survived winters due to them.
Just replaced my tent, and no need to throw away the old one. It's barely been used.
Will ship only. Cheapest way possible. USA only.
Sleeping bag is actually a sleeping bag liner made of fleece and rated at 50 degrees. Weight is 2 pounds. It's compressed in the sack pictured.
Tent is 6.5feetx5feet. Weight is 2 pounds. It has two small tears that can easily be repaired with vinyl tape or patches.

You could try looking for a group of other people that are also sleeping in their cars as there is safety in numbers. I know that my aunt regularly talks to one homeless guy that lives in his car in a parking lot that has a McDonald's and a Carl's Jr.
They all park towards the rear of the lot so as to not piss off the fast food workers and they help watch each others backs.
Another suggestion would be for you to order a LuminAid Nova Lantern from Amazon before you end up in your car. The beauty of this little device is that it will give you upto 24 hours of light on a single charge and you can either charge it in the sun for 10 hours or plug it into a wall outlet for 1 hour.

Also if you can afford to spend about $50 then you might want to invest in a car jumper like the one link below to have on hand just in case you run into a situation where you have completely drained the battery and cant get the car started.

OK. Sorry we couldn't help. Not sure what you were expecting. The best you're gonna get is suggestions about courses of action to take. Nobody in here is handing out money. If I could I would, but I don't have much myself and I'm across the ocean from you.
Maybe you can get it towed yourself, privately, before they tow it? If they haven't towed it already, that is.
I don't know what else to tell you. I can't begin to tell you about what resources are available over there, because I'm in a whole different country.
But I wish you the best of luck. Hang in there, dude. Keep your head up, and your eyes open. Opportunity will come your way, and be ready to capitalize on it and make the most of it when it does.
I really do believe you have to maintain that frame of mind if you want things to improve.
I don't know if you have to pay to use that computer lab, but it might be worth taking a look at Amazon's mechanical turk and seeing about that. https://www.mturk.com/mturk/welcome . I've used it before, it's possible to make money in there. Start with the HITs that anyone can do and pay next to nothing, work your rating up, start accepting bigger HITs, etc. It's a lot of work for not that much but it can start amounting to something if you work your way up. There's a subreddit, don't know how active it still is, called /r/HITsWorthTurkingFor . Look in there, perhaps.
Not sure what else to say. Good luck to you. Don't go get hypothermic in the woods. People have come back from worse than your situation and lived to tell about it.
Also there's /r/beermoney
EDIT: also check out /r/forhire. might find something in there where you can work from anywhere internationally and all you need to do is find a computer?

What in the world man. Your asking for money to buy biking gear for a dubious sounding epic road trip. A plane from Miami to Chicago costs $50 one way and take 3 hours. That's less than the price of some of your wishlist items. Once you have been working and gotten your self stable you can buy your own road touring gear. Until then I think you need to concentrate on hitching to Miami and catching a flight.
There's a retro fitness and a planet fitness in secaucus. If you just need a shower and food theres mainchance in the city though i know its far.

I used this black mesh and rolled my window down. Its less protection and more of a deterrent. I got it because I hate the idea of people watching me sleep. Its difficult to look into the car but easy to look out. Its not the best at circulating airflow but raising the mesh half an inch will allow air to flow into and out of the car. It comes with 2 for two windows so I'd recommend investing in UV shields as well. I had a nifty setup to be able to live out of my car for 2 years but not gonna belabor you with the details because it costs money.
Also can't go wrong with just UV shielding. One is enough to either cover two side windows or the entire front or back. Its more practical than the mesh because if you park in sunlight you're doing to burn up from the greenhouse effect. So definitely park in shade if you can.
Also my traveling companion uses this pepper spray & its super effective so if you can find a nearby amazon drop box, you can pick this up https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002LIMPZC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_IfqXCbJ9SQR8Z

This is the healthiest greens powder I've found. It also happens to be the cheapest. Getting enough dark, leafy greens like kale is important. It has been a real lifesaver for me and I love that it saves me time that I would've spent washing, chopping, and sauteing. I calculated that it's no more expensive to meet my daily requirements of vitamins and minerals this way than it is to do so by buying fresh vegetables at the supermarket. This product is also organic.
Also, check out pea protein by Prescribed For Life to help you get enough protein. That's also the best price for pea protein that I've found anywhere.
Sorry to hear this is happening to you as the user mentioned. As of right now do not leave until your legal limit is up. In the state of GA if you do not have a written lease they have to give you 60 days notice. If they try to kick you out or bother you or lock you out call the police. I have been homeless for the past year and a half now and it has not gone well until recently. Please do your best to find a job: http://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=&l=Lawrenceville%2C+GA&sort=date Get your IDs in order Make sure you have your SS card if you find work. Look into temp agencies and fast food places they hire quickly If you have to absolutely leave go to a shelter during the evenings and go to the library in the mornings to look for work. I suggest going to a shelter in Atlanta as you may have easier access to jobs and public transportation. I will have you in my prayers.
Medicaid has been expanded to help low-income people in a lot of states. You can apply for Medicaid at a local public hospital or at your state's Medicaid site.
It's a website ( https://www.mturk.com ) that you can use to find small jobs to do online.
They often pay poorly, but you can use forums like /r/HITsWorthTurkingFor and /r/WorkOnline to find the most profitable tasks, and do them. Go for the ones that pay the most money for the least time, and just keep doing them.
It's possible to get your income up, and if you do it "full time" you can easily get $120 a month or more deposited to your account.
I recommend trying to track down your bank details, and getting your hands on a new debit card.
I'm not sure how to do that without proof of your identity, so you might need documentation like a birth certificate or something.
If you can obtain your bank account number and routing number, you can have your earnings deposited into your bank account, or just use them on Amazon.com, but you have to have all goods purchased there delivered, which is a hassle if you don't have an address.
But you're an educated fellow, and I'm sure that you have ideas on how to use your time online to make money that could overtake that other guy sleeping under the bridge, and possibly enable you to get into housing. I know that getting a job is more important than making a few bucks a day, but those few bucks a day can put food in your mouth and maybe let you save up for a set of clothes to wear to an interview.
Also, for the phone situation I would recommend getting a Google Voice number. Edit: You need to confirm your Google Voice number with a US number, I just checked their policy and they say:
" Please note that Google Voice is only available in the U.S. You will be required to verify an existing U.S. phone number to get a Google Voice number." But you might be able to get around this somehow, if you know anyone with a landline or cell phone you could verify it once and just keep using it.
Thats unrealistic. We all need to charge our electronics. And we are all using the same public outlets now. The pandemic changed everything. You are now responsible for your own electricity. Especially for something like a CPAP machine. You need a Jackery. It will charge your CPAP and a lot more.

I've used it myself. It is true to the rating of a 0 degree bag. Only cost $40-$60.
My advice is to invest in a down sleeping bag. They are much warmer and very light weight. You can take it with you anywhere. They cost more but somethings you have to shell out the money for when your homeless. Mainly your tent and sleeping bag.
Remember. Sleeping bag ratings are not based on comfort. They are based on survival. You have to have to add 15 to 20 degrees to get the comfort rating. So a 0 degree bag will only keep you warm at 20 degrees. Down bags will perform bette because they trap your body heat.
You have little reason to panic. I see this as more of a mental battle then anything else.

If you are over 18 I would tell the staff to not talk to them, including acknowledging your location.
Read the book Man's Search for Meaning. Even if you are in a horrible situation, the one thing they can't take away from you is choice. You can choose who you talk to and choose not to do drugs. You can choose to do something positive with your time eg volunteer to get yourself outside. Are there options that lead to part time work?

Here’s a link to what I found to be the smallest, cheapest 12v fridge that is actually COMPRESSOR driven and temp controlled. I’ve been using it every day for about two months with no issues. It uses under 60w so it’s consumption is extremely low. Can also be used as a freezer instead.
Be aware that anything under about $150 will most likely NOT have a compressor, and only be able to cool your items about 10 degrees below current room temp. Make sure you’re looking for 12v compressor driven fridges if you’re planning on storing things that can expire. Being a target will depend on how they co-exist with the other local unhoused residents. Meaning if they lightly social with them & friendly in that aspect.

Find a partially obstructed place, near trees or a dumpster, so that anyone approaching you has to use one predictable path. Set the alarm aimed at that path.

assuming you have access to a phone or mp3 player, eat up audiobooks all day long.
the idea is to accept that in someway, your current patterns of thought haven't produced the life you wanted, so i let go of my ego and realised i must be missing something and i didn't know what it was.
so fill your mind with the words and thoughts of others who have created successful lives. Ypu'll still be you, but filled with the wisdom of thousands of the most successful people in the world.

Check out the classics, they are filled with great advice and life observations. or learning a skill, i used it to learn blockchain, systems thinking and organisational/management skills.
I'm not sure batteries will cut it here. I have battery heated garments, they were $300 each for the pants and jacket, they last maybe 3-5 hours. Running a 12v heated blanket off your cigarette lighter socket would work but you'd risk running down your starter battery too low unless the engine is running in which case you may as well just use the cabin heater.
However you may have noticed many places have unprotected outdoor power outlets for powering cleaning and landscaping tools, or at the bases of trees in cities to power christmas lights. There also still exist some legacy EV chargers with standard wall outlets for electric motorcycles. If you can fit a weather proof male passthru to the outside of your car, you can plug it into one of these public sockets via an extension cord. Like hooking an RV up to shore power.
Then you have power inside the car you can run a full size electric blanket (or even space heater) off of, all night long. If you buy an EV badge for your car, you can tell anybody who asks why it's plugged in that it's a conversion.
This thing still works great after being abused, left in the rain, etc for over two years. Propane is expensive, so we refill the little 1 lb cans from a big 15 lb tank. It automatically turns itself off if it gets tipped over or tilted, and we have CO detector. One of us usually just holds it in our hands till we get toasty, then turn if off and go to sleep. We love it.
See if you can get a good sleeping bag, like one with a hood on it, and maybe even if a small personal thermal tent if you can fit it in your car.
This Life Tent is $20 bucks on Amazon.
I live in my car with my son and my cat. I’ve got multiple fuzzy blankets around for her to get cuddled into whenever she wants. I put them in places I saw her retreating to. So for us that is in the passenger footwell, the back dash, and on top of the cooler. At night I sleep in the drivers seat and my son sleeps in the passenger one; she sleeps under the blankets with one of us. When I leave my car bring her with whenever I can by putting her into a pet carrier bag.
I have this one and it works but my cat is smaller than average so she can climb right out of it. I e taught her not to but it was ..hard to do. We also have a leash and harness.
One of the things I considered including in mine were those EmergenC powdered electrolyte packets. (example: https://www.amazon.com/Emergen-C-Dietary-Supplement-Vitamin-Caffeine/dp/B00NNOV1US)
Ends up being around $1 a pouch. Can be mixed with the water you're including.
Car window screens make a huge difference if you’re sleeping in your car. They’re relatively affordable and they make sure you don’t wake up with tons of condensation on your windows and damp clothes/blankets. Plus, they block some light which is nice.

For a similar recommendation, I’ve been using Simple for a few years now with no problem. Has direct deposit, Apple Pay, debit cards, external bank linking, camera check deposits, and more. Not possible to overdraft, and no fees for most things (I think you can request physical checks for a small fee, but that’s the only fee I’m aware of).
Simple says:

So it sounds like they're willing to work with people like a regular bank would.

Larger cities have more than one branch library. Colleges and Universities also have libraries. There are also specialty libraries like law libraries and genealogy libraries. Make the rounds. Keep your appearance clean and wear clean clothes. Some laundromats have WiFi now.
Wifi hot spot map
Wifi password list
You often can get WiFi just outside of establishment without going inside and after hours as well. Bring an extension cord with multiple plugs on the end so you don't have to sit right next to an outlet.
I think that they gave some really great and helpful advice, more than I could have given.
Don't forget that if you have a laptop or smart phone, you can mooch off internet from coffee shops, fast food joints, or just about anywhere else anymore.
If you're near a Wal*Mart, they also let people stay in their parking lots in RVs and don't care.
If you're religious (or even if you're not), I would suggest going to your local churches to see what they can do. I'm not personally religious, but churches have helped my family in the past. They gave us food during the winter and some money to help pay our bills. For a few holidays that were especially rough they made us a few meals that we could eat for like a week of food.
On top of this, consider looking into online work that you can do. This list could be beneficial for you. One that I have seen used in the past that I don't think is on the list is Mechanical Turk from Amazon. You do it in your own time and can make as much as you can from the tasks that you choose from. A lot of it is boring, but money is money.
I like to use somethign simple, like mind map planning. Organize how you wish (sometimes i do sub-bullets for resources for each plan).
Remember to Take a breather too.
Once you have plan/resourse list, you can also make a map of resources so you know where to go for what you need (e.g. late night toiletts).
Then sort your plans to what'll be the most beneficial for the short term (e.g. how to get housing/job) and for long-term.
Break your steps into smaller goals.
Do goals.
Keep planning.
This is a great list, good job.
I definitely think you should try to find a home for your dog during this time.
The only things I might add to this gear list are a headlamp and a hunting netting.
Other things: Layering your clothes will also be super important for staying warm, learn how to do this. Change into dry clothing, that you haven't been wearing all day, every night before bed. Don't wear tight socks to bed, your feet will get cold. Baby wipes, 'nough said. Get a gym membership for taking showers.
Good luck OP. We are rooting for you!
You're taking a huge risk allowing anyone on your property while you're not there. Even for the most honest person, the temptation and desperation of being homeless can be too much. Because of the pandemic most homeless have learned by now that we are responsible for our own electricity. Its not reasonable to expect a home owner to allow someone to charge their phone every day, while they are not home. At this point you may be a mark. Which means you will become a mark for other homeless. If you want to help the guy, just get him a solar panel. And tell him to move on. You've been been beyond nice and caring. Here are few to look at. You can have them delivered to an Amazon locker for pick up. Hope this helps.

I used to have this 15000 mAh power bank and I don't recommend it. The solar charging was so weak, it was practically useless. I always had to charge it from a wall outlet. Even the Amazon reviews mentioned the solar is weak. One time I left it charging overnight and it gave me problems ever since. Months later it stopped working altogether. I only had it for a year.

Ok. Hmm.
Any local housing authority is going to have a waiting list, probably even with his cancer taken into account. Again this is one of those avenues he has to pursue, as opposed to someone doing it for him. Unless he gave you legal authority to do these things for him, which is something else entirely.
A tent in the winter, in New jersey. I'm from Rhode Island, so I've some experience with similar weather. Something like this 4 person tent? Something he can stand up in, before opening the flap.
This still presents the problem of where to put said tent. If necessary, another similar tent of a different color, or even camouflaged patterns, could be purchased instead. You could assist in locating a spot for the tent. Four eyes are better than two.
Realtors? Know any? Might they have property that needs to be sat on?
It isn't just the tent. It's not having flashlights outside the tent at 3AM telling you that you have to move it.

From the image and the video it seems to just snap or something up near the neck in the back.
The huggle hoodie might provide more back and head coverage. Or a fleece lined sherpa hoodie. Just some other options.

If you feel so inclined, consider gifting a Diva Cup or other lightweight, reusable menstruation product.
It’s not cheap but can literally be used for years. It is the most economical and ecological answer to the monthly period.
I used this and still use it when it gets cold, honestly. The lowest setting is good enough for sleeping and staying warm. It's like sleeping with 4 cats attached to you.
Yes it's kinda pricey..
Walmart sells sleeping bags for about $9. Buy as many as you need to lay on the floor of your tent. Or try one of these
Our government programs are neglected and actively under attack by plutocrats from both major political parties. Our social funding/programs/government institutions have gone to shit under neoliberal ideology that dominates our policy in america today.

Back when I camped out a lot, the essential tool was a folding shovel. You can buy one for under 20 bucks a your local Walmart. Or for 27 bucks, this comes with a saw edge and other goodies: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08CDP3TFT
Once you have a shovel, dig a small hole for the fire. Use the dirt from the hole to make a berm around 2/3 of the perimeter of your hole. This reflects a lot of the heat in one direction.
If you can find a flat rock or paving stone to partly cover the top, it gets much more efficient. The heat gets reflected sideways instead of going straight up. ( This is how fireplaces were invented. )
All you need is one flat rock and a small shovel, and you can multiply the efficiency of your fireplace by five or ten-fold. This means that you need to collect a whole lot less fuel. It also decreases the chances of someone seeing it, and it decreases the chances of a random spark starting a forest fire.
Currently homeless and more than likely wouldn't still be if it weren't for theft by other homeless. Getting the cops Involved would just end up having them mock me and find some reason to take me in. They are pieces of shit and also have kept me homeless by intimidating a place that was going to hire me bad provide housing with the job. They make.too much money off us staying out here. Anyways,
I got this

Find a Amazon drop near you to pick it up at and use a gift card or prepaid. I also saved up for two tile pro's and can track the items they are in indefinitely.
Also I put spyware on a decoy phone so I can access the mic and camera when it gets stolen to find the thief. Check dumpsters at apartment complexes for phones. It shouldn't take too long.
I left bells hanging from set up branches near my tent that sent tweakers scattering when triggered. Maybe it's the frequency of the bell. It's weird.
Lastly some items including cigarette pack may have black widows in them. Don't recommend stealing from me just in case if that. They are small or happy ones. Good luck.
My dietary advice is to avoid prepackaged snack food they're the devil in disguise. Fresh salad can keep for a couple days and uncooked rice/beans will keep indefinitely as far as I know. I'd get something like this that you could store a cooler, food, supplies, and utensils on. My ultimate recommendation is to get a generator and run a rice maker and an air fryer on it, if you don't want to go that route maybe a butane/propane stove, and as a last resort a 12v hot plate would get the job done well enough.
That's the one I have. I typically feel like I'm advertising when I post links to products that aren't requested.
The night time temps are what matters with sleeping bags. At 40-50 degrees and getting warmer you have good options.
Use it as a liner or sleeping bag. Rated at 50 degrees. Fleece, cheap, only 2 pounds, fits in any backpack.

Like most said already, use baby powder to start. Also you should try using boxer briefs for underwear. Try the long leg version with the inseam being 9 inches. They also come in 12 inches.
Compression shorts are also another option.
>in plastic bags. It would be messy
Liquids would get very messy. The little travel sized bottles are less likely to leak all over everything. Even ziplock bags would be prone to messiness if there is more than a single portion in the bag. Bags/backpacks can get squished, leaned on, dropped, etc. and a baggy of liquid is asking for a mess.
If a laundromat is nearby, laundry pods could get broken down from a bulk package into ziplock bags. I've never had a problem carrying some around in a ziplock bag. They are also distinctive and so wouldn't be easily mistaken for anything else.
Maybe hotel sized is cheaper? This is an example I found when looking at travel sized toiletries, available in bulk-ish quantities:

I feel great. My walk is even different. Not cocky, just enough confidence to make me feel good again. If you can spare the money do it. After two years living in a tent, I'm in a room now. It's just one of the many things I've been able to do. I'm starting to develop a rhythm again.
Here is a link to a great pair of hair clippers for only $20. I've had them before and they work for the beard and head. You'll be able to give yourself a full haircut. From head to toe. I have them in my wishlist.

It depends greatly on where you are... Each city/metro area has pluses or minuses.
In general, Shelters allow you a shot at a warm place to rest, get food, hygiene care, community resources, and possibly on site medical/mental health care.
That said, they all have multiple rules and regulations that people in distress might find to be deal breakers. No weapons, no drugs, No outside food, Unpleasant enter/exit times, Separated by sex/gender to name a few.
Because of these rules, people get upset and some purposely break them. Since you have a car, I would suggest you utilize that as your 'base' where you sleep/keep food/supplies/valuables and walk into the shelters during the day to use their showers, laundry, community resources and medical/Social Worker staff. Depending on the car, they make special air mattresses that convert the back seat into a more comfortable bed.

I bet you could sell hand warmers for a dollar apiece.
If you can afford to buy one now, I suggest this kettle that runs on a 12V vehicle outlet. You'll have hot water for tea, instant cocoa or soup/ramen, and if you keep a funnel handy - and are careful - you can fill a 2-liter soda bottle with hot (not boiling!) water and keep toasty overnight.
These electric hand warmers are the next best thing to hot coffee .
I bought them for $15 each, on clearance at Menards store. I put one in my hat and one in my hoodie pockets and it keeps me warm

Also if you like comics or manga there are plenty of free apps out there where you can read pretty much anything you want.
I use one called Tachiyomi for manga. It takes a bit to set up and you have to install it manually (it's not available on Google play), but it allows you to read pretty much any manga ever made lol.
There are plenty more free apps available both for manga and for Western comics. It takes a bit of digging to find them but it's so worth it lol.
Also I second reading books.
And torrenting movies or TV shows can be worth it depending on how you feel about torrenting. Just get the BitTorrent app and a good free VPN (I recommend ProtonVPN) and download off any free WiFi. Just make sure to download from trusted uploaders (check their ratings!) so you don't get a virus and you're set!
Knives are for close combat. And you would have to have some basic training at least. This keeps the bad guys 35 feet away.

I would recommend a sleeping bag that is rated for the temperatures in that area. You can get a decent one from Walmart for around $30-40. Probably less online somewhere. They pack a lot better than a blanket and have different features sometimes.
If not you could also get them a wool blanket. Pretty warm.
If you want to take it up a notch, you could get one of these too:

Some Mr. Heaters are marketed as indoor safe. Such as this one.
To cook rice you need fuel unless you get a solar cooker add dried beans salt and spices to the rice (after soaking the beans overnight to soften them) you get a cheap nutritional meal.
Here is some DIY Solar Cooker Plans if you can't buy one online.
Nonetheless, a dedicated-to-the-car-battery solar charger is a good option, just to keep the car battery in tip-top health.
Many modern cars can slowly drain a battery, and a solar trickle charge prevents this - even on a cloudy day.
An example is here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QC13C2R
NB: What kind of van does she have? Most vehicles can charge the battery through the cigarette lighter, but some cannot.
The ones I saw at walmart run on lighter fluid.
Maybe this one is the 20th century version. Usually when batteries get warm I get worried. As long as it doesn't burst into flame it sounds great!

Something like this is a bit more expensive, but way more durable than plastic forks and spoons. Might be a better long term solution
Depends on what you're carrying but if you want to cover all bases then something like this
EDIT: Looking for something big with a built in rain cover, then this instead
A storage unit is an ongoing expense and you are planning to leave the area. Just pack everything in boxes and put it neatly in your mom's garage. Leave on good terms if at all possible.
Get a gas canister hiking stove and test drive it for a little bit. Cooking and baking your own food will save a huge amount of money over a lifetime.
