If you want 20 only 33$ since Amazon has them on sale for 6.49$ for three. I know cause I've got like seven left I got some to let my husky play with and she's only torn apart two so far.
Unless you want the pupper in which case can't help you there.
I'm betting on the wood being nice and cool. If you put one of those cool mats, like this: https://www.amazon.com/Green-Shop-Cooling-Patented-Pressure-Activated/dp/B006NONHNE he might start liking it more. Ours love those things and lay on them all the time.
Yea that’s what it’s for. I got it on Amazon for $11. I don’t attach it though unless he’s wearing a harness.

I use the gloves twice a week and a rake that I just bought at pet smart called “Chi for dogs double sided shedding rake”. I had read a few post about using a rake from other people on reddit and decided to give it a try.
Also imo furminators suck, try a rake brush instead. They won't pull and damage fur as much, making it more comfortable for the pup.

We got one of these for our dog. Easy to install, cheap, and keeps the flys out.

Their feet are pretty tough but we do use booties on them depending on the conditions. We also love this paw wax and use it on them every run.
The harness is the best kind I can find for pulling. It distributes the pulling load properly on the dog's spine instead of wholely on the front shoulders.
The harness is actually made in Norway, but Amazon sells them so you should be able to get then anywhere. Pay special attention to the sizing instructions, they are not "one size fits all".

huskies are strong as heck and need a lot of running room.. they aren't a dog u should keep cooped up in an aptmnt...
that said, my neighbor has 2 full grown golden ret. in his 645 sq ft home... he takes them out for a run daily tho..
why don't you get a corgi-husky mix? that way you get a smaller husky? as i've read they retain most of the husky traits (except height)..
Corgi-husky mix photos (these are full grown btw)

There's a version that empties itself into a larger bin once it's done cleaning. then the larger bin is what you empty. It isn't cheap.

This is it. Have had it for a year. It's been good. Have to adjust every so often.
Is your cat de-clawed? If yes, my answer is never to be alone with the dog. He has no defenses against it.
Otherwise I have this: My older husky was raised with cats, and is fine with the cats that were in our house. But a neighbor cat coming into the yard was fair game. So they might know YOUR cat, but the other ones still aren't safe. Supervise until you know. Since it's a pup, the cat will probably teach him manners early.
Harness, good choice, not a collar. I am a huge advocate of not leaving collars on pets. I've seen, with my eyes (not a 3rd party story) 3 animals that died by getting hung up with their collars. I like the harnesses that have a handle on the back, particularly when they are younger, so you can catch them as they run past you, or pull them out of somewhere they shouldn't be. I just got these, which also are seatbelts, really like them! Harness
On to the shedding. Unless you have a fluffier breed, you have about a year before the shedding starts. But, once it starts it's full time forever. Tip, get them used to the brush early, and do it daily.
Bonus: Take lots of pictures, share them with us, and just love that baby! It's going to be a fun, wild ride!
It looks like it might be this it’s marketed as a Halloween decor, but a few reviews and other sites show dogs playing with it. So seems like it isn’t dog specific made, but people still let them play with it, I would just make sure that they don’t eat parts of it if they managed to rip it.
Sure thing let me get you the link. I got mine from Amazon. Make sure to get all the measurements in order toget the right fit

It could very well be. I've fed mine taste of the wild his whole life starting with the puppy kind dry. I tried ancient grains once and only thing I noticed was more/bigger poop so I figured it didn't have any advantage just stuff he didn't digest
During the winter I feed him the pacific stream (high omega fats and oils) and during the summer it's usually prairie, canyon or mountain. Same kinds of wet food but that's usually a treat or a road trip food on top of his dry (he's 80lbs and usually he eats 3-6 cups of food a day I just fill his bowl when he empties it and I use a raised feeder I made) and then of course whatever other food he gets his hands on like raw beef or cheese.
It sounds like it's the thing my boy was having with dry air in the winter. As crazy as it sounds omega fatty acids and fish oil did wonders.
The fish oil I give mine are these capsules. He has no problem eating them like a treat. They are 1000mg I'd start with one and then wait a day and make sure there's no reactions (shouldn't be but I've read they can get diarrhea from to much) and then try 1 capsule every other day and see how he does. Just go slow. I know the recommended on the bottle for my pups size says 4 caps a day but I've never had to give him more than one a day.
I hope this helps please let me know how it goes :)

I recently picked up a cot-style dog bed that seems to be doing a decent job during the heat. The fabric on the Coolaroo one is a bit too rough for my boy's apparently delicate sensibilities, but I just draped a thin but soft towel over it and he napped quite comfortably even outside, in the 35C/95F heat. The extra airflow underneath them really helps regulate the temperature.
I got this one since mine is still a puppy, and I wasn't sure if he'd like it or not so didn't want to spend the extra money on top of the additional cost to get them in Canada, but the Kuranda beds are supposedly quite good quality, and the edges of the fabric are hidden within the frame so it's a lot harder to chew at. Now that I know mine likes it, once he's closer to adult size I plan to shell out the additional money to get him one of those with the Cordura fabric, since it's apparently the most similar to bed fabric, and mine quite likes to sleep on our bed.
Impressive!
Yeah, my girl is obsessed with the squeaks. We have these which she can only destroy after playing with/bouncing on/chewing for literal years, and they are her absolute favorite toys ever. She literally hoards them on her bed in the corner and will lay down and stare forlornly at them if they ever get stuck somewhere she can't reach, like under the couch or bookcase. She just lays there as long as it takes for one of us to notice and get it back for her lol
This is what I use, but there is also something called neater feeder that is hight adjustable if you need it for older or taller dogs.
Shaving is only an option if the coat can't be saved. I have a wooly Malamute and I was able to get his mats under control with an undercoat rake.
I used this on my beast and he's been mat-free for a couple of years:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074XLTHSB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_-hogFb88DMSR4
You can use it to cut the mats free and pull out the loose undercoat.
Once you do the dematting, just brush the coat real quick for 5-15 minutes a few times per week and it should solve the matting problem.
Uuuuh, I recommend getting something that a husky will have a hard time getting out of. Something like THIS!!
We have two huskies, and one of them is the queen of escaping. She met her match with a crate similar to this, and eventually caved. She doesn't even try anymore. I mean, she does, and sometimes succeeds, but at least she doesn't hurt herself anymore. Huskies are too smart, and having something like that will not do the job.
It's a veehoo, not expensive compared to other beds Had it about 2 years now, only bed ever to survive my older one. He destroys all beds Amazon Uk - Vehoo Totally recommend this bed.
Siberian Huskies (Complete Pet Owner's Manual) https://www.amazon.com/dp/0764145932/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_XuqPBbKZ4BSAW
That's similar to what I have. Mines 7 years old, so I'm not sure if it's the same book with a different cover.
i use this rake brush on our husky. it was less than $5 at kmart and has done a good job for 2 years. when she is shedding i brush every other day, unless the floors are getting crazy.
I asked the advice of this one man that worked at petsmart and was a dog groomer/trainer/manager/ basically-a-dog-whisperer-but-would-never-call-himself-one and he recommended one specifically for double coated dogs. He also told me to only brush him a maximum of 5 times in each place as to not irritate the dog's skin, and to not touch him again for at least 2 weeks so I don't overbrush him, while bathing him once a month. What are your thoughts on this? Nothing else seems to touch his undercoat for me.
Yes, it's welded reinforced steel lol. I got it here a little spendy, but definitely an investment after the fiasco.
We trained our dogs to walk without pulling on the leash using a prong collar based on a recommendation from our dog trainer.
Haven't had our 16 month old escape yet, but he's off leash a lot in parks and he's chased after a goose I didn't see. Had to tag him pretty hard with the e-collar but I'd rather do that than him hurt himself much worse:
Oh, one more thing (because the essay above wasn’t enough?): While I use a harness on him for car safety, when it comes to walking them it only encourages pulling in sled dogs. I’ve found what works best is a simple slip lead, like this. Place it high on the head, just below the ears. And when they pull, lift it UP not BACK.
Oh, and they will chew through a leash or harness if you try tying them up for more than a minute. I have a chain lead for those rare occasions.
I am in love with this one! It works so nicely for my boys. That said, it's all up to preference. As long as it has long pins that rotate, it'll work. I've found the ones with two or more rows to not get as much in one go, and pull on the fur.
I can get most of my brushing done with just this one, then a normal stickler brush for finishing up.
For us the key is to have a large Dyson as well as a cordless Dyson. Any canister vacuums really are fine.
We also use a silicone fur mop. They work well on a number of surfaces, but mostly thicker carpet.
We also use lint rollers, but we'd have to sell a kidney if they were our main thing. We prefer lint brushes
For mud, we just got a crosswave, so we are looking forward to that.
If like to add if you use a carpet cleaner, the Hoover smart wash. You cab basically take it apart without having to get internally to Chan the hair of brushes.

My vet suggested switching up my husko’s food and suggested a couple brands including this one: https://www.chewy.com/purina-pro-plan-adult-shredded-blend/dp/114025
This is the only food my husko has not completely gave up on from boredom. Granted, we have a strict exercise schedule. She won’t even look at her food if she hasn’t had a morning/evening run.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FKVTFWP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Not even twenty bucks. Hopefully about what you spend on meat for him in five days.
Well, the first problem is you appear to be trying to brush her before going for a walk? Uhm, are you mad? That's like telling a kid they're going to the toystore to buy the toy they've been asking for, but hold still while I get your snowmobile suit on..... Need a better brush as well, or rather several brushes. Need a shedding brush of some kind.

The middle rake is amazing for getting out the undercoat, but need to be gentle with it as it can really grab the fur and we all know how much huskies just love being brushed lol. I also use a blower to blow out loose fur. It's a great pre-bath to loosening up fur, but after as well, then the next day again when dry - use lots of conditioner!
My brother put these in, he preferred them since they were easy and his wife liked they could match the finish to the current handle.
For my 11 yo I built a custom smart lock that locked at the top of the door.
It's called Pet Dreamland. It's got clips on both ends so we connect the other end to the trunk of our car so we don't need to hold it. It also comes with a strap that goes around your waist which comes in handy, too.
This is one of the ones we use. No reason we picked this one in particular at the time. Has lasted 3 years of walking, running and backpacking. Can't imaging it ever breaking.
Our other one has a beefier clasp, but I can't find where we bought it from.
Try this. Worth the money for a dog that size and activity level.
A bristle brush wont do much but move the oils from the skin and the coat.
So a rubber curry brush will just help grab the undercoat and do minimal damage to the skin and guard hair. A rubber curry you can use when wet or dry, but for this purpose you would use when the coat is dry in short strokes with the grain of the growth of hair. I would also recommend getting a light leave in conditioning spray. Using this while brushing (mist then brush) will also help protect the new hair.
https://www.chewy.com/kong-dog-zoomgroom-multi-use-brush/dp/45799
CHI Detangling Finishing Dog Spray and Best Shot UltraMax Finishing Dog & Cat Spray are both really good conditioning sprays that are easier to come by. Both can be ordered on chewy and Chi can be bought at petsmart.
We bought ours on Amazon, but be sure to start them with easier puzzles. We tried a medium/hard puzzle at the start and our girl just got frustrated and ripped the puzzle apart.
This one was easier for her
I found puzzle toys my boy really likes
You just add a treat to them and they spend a while getting it out. Really great for those hot days when he can’t go out but needs to have an activity
https://www.chewy.com/starmark-treat-ringer-tough-dog-chew/dp/128458
https://www.chewy.com/busy-buddy-bristle-bone-treat/dp/48842
As a momma to four huskies, I agree with more exercise! I have seen so many things eaten when I slacked off. This was the best exercise and it doesn't take that long to tire them out!

Also-if you haven't buried chicken wire or otherwise blocked the bottom of the fence from digging, do it before he/she houdinis out of the backyard. They are infamous escape artists. If you don't have other dogs, another buddy may be a good idea. They are pack dogs so they love having other dogs around :)
Invest in a coolaroo. I went through several beds before I found this one and my husky loves it.
Mine bust through two of the regular style dog crates, and we were really worried he would injure himself.
Our last resort was this heavy duty cage, we dubbed it the lions den. There is no way he could burst out of it, but it was even more amazing how he responded to it. I don’t know if it’s the security or what, but he has loved it from day one. It is his refuge when we are away from home, and very often his regular hangout when we are home and is not locked inside.
It seems like from reviews, I’m not the only one with a Houdini dog who hated crates, but love this one. Worth the investment and cheaper than doggie daycare. Good luck!
One we have-
Using this has stoped my husky from pulling.. Without it, I may as well be in the iditarod.
Use an e-collar with a wide spectrum output at the lowest detectable level to help with basic commands. My husky's working level is 7 (lowest I can detect is 9) out of 100.
Higher numbers are the seat belt. Escapes his leash and is running towards the road? Dial up and zap. Better than being hit by a car.
I resisted it for a while but the trainer got me on board when he gave me the pulses at the working number of his other dogs and I could hardly feel them. And I like the seatbelt explanation, but hope I never have to use it like that.
I’m not a promote stuff kinda guy, but I got this two days ago and it just pulled out more than the deep rake/top brush/furmenator. Yes I have to do all 3 in that order. But this new one pulled more in one swipe, I was genuinely fucking surprised. For reference my husky has shorter hair, like 2 in long for the majority of his body. Your results may vary.
Pat Your Pet Deshedding Brush -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EZ7UOCM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
We bought this one in 2019. We have a husky, a German shepherd + 2 cats. I'll say we don't use it frequently - while it does get a great deal of undercoat out, we feel it more or less loosens the hair and he sheds/molts even longer. I'm glad we have it on hand though. It also has a switch to heat the air but we never use that. We use this undercoat rake and use it often.
Just so you know, if you wanna let your pepper peek out the window by themselves, you can get clips that buckle into the seat belt recepticle like this one:
https://www.chewy.com/pet-republique-dog-cat-undercoat-rake/dp/205905. The rake
https://www.chewy.com/evolution-curved-firm-slicker-dog/dp/223692. Slicker
The actual ones I have aren't made anymore, but these are identical as far as I can tell, just different color handles.
I recently adopted a husky mix and I found a leash with a second handle has been really helpful when she gets over excited about chipmunks and bicycles. I’m not suggesting a particular brand , this is just what I’m talking about. https://www.chewy.com/frisco-traffic-leash-padded-handles/dp/293218?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12619854389&utm_content=Frisco&utm_term=&gbraid=0AAAAADmQ2V0MCcpGaZRLIRQyL6963HLt3&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8O-V...
Yay for rescuing doggos! Thank you.
Every husky is a bit different - take every stereotype with a handful of salt. I would just see how they are together and go from there. The trial sounds perfect and oh so responsible!
Here are my two pennies worth:
- Don't ever shave a husky. Unlike most dogs, they have a double coat that regulates their body temp. Shave = messed up temp regulation and shedding patterns. Very sad when you see a shaved huskers.
- Brush often to avoid fur matting. I have found the best freakin brush for Nami, it doesn't cut the hair with a razor like most do: Amazon link. Have bags ready to put the fur in, I brush Nami once per week and fill up a grocery bag during non shedding times of year.
- Get ready for strangers asking to take pictures of your dog.
- Get ready for husky judgement. From everyone. About everything.
If it’s not ready, just wait. It will come out eventually.
Also- this type of undercoat rake is best for the hair under the surface. Most shedding combs get surface level. Careful though- this will pull the hair. You need to work it slowly. https://www.chewy.com/furminator-dog-grooming-rake/dp/191444?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12737641584&utm_content=FURminator&utm_term=&gbraid=0AAAAADmQ2V2rSzIrUtIgtJGSfQpaBGh9z&gclid=CjwKCAjwh-CVBhB...
Since she's not used to pulling weight, boarding/mushing may not be the best option to start up as she ages, especially since she's showing signs of arthritis. However, you might consider purchasing a "walky dog" bike attachment. It will allow you to bike with her, and run at her pace, but because the attachment is off to the side, she won't bear any of your weight.
The Detail Geek you tube channel recommended the "Lilly Brush" Amazon link.
We got one for each car, and it's awesome.
We also keep a set of dusting mitts in the garage, and a stick Dyson just inside the garage door. That seems to help a lot with the loose hair like what you've shown.
I use a seat hammock to contain the hair. My girlfriend uses a throw that is sorta nappy. My thinking is that I shake the hammock out every couple trips. Her's is that the throw traps the hair and she washes it periodically. She definitely has more hair in the car than I do, but doesn't have as bad blowing hair when the windows are down.
Finally, clean your cabin air filter. Ours looks like a fleece mat in about 3 months. We change it every year, but we shake it out every 3 months.
I can speak for all of us here and say yes, we have all adjusted our adventures or tailored our sport to our huskies. I can tell you when you find what you both want to do together it will make all the trials to find it worth it 100 fold.
My suggestion is to find something, don't go all out yet, and try it out slowly. Like, kayaking. How id your pup in water and what happens when you all fall out. Rent or borrow a kayak to just see and stay in the shallow areas just playing and getting used to it. Also make sure sit, stay and recall are down.
For biking I got this: Bike attachment . We walked with the bike for a bit and only after I tired him out a bit. Even with that a squirrel almost ended us both. I got this attachment that goes lower on the bike so gravity was on my side and that's when the magic happened Wheel attachment Now he gets his harness on and lines up next to the bike and we have a grand time every time but he had to learn "Left, right, focus and slow/stop" commands.
100% worth it though. So just go slow and adapt when you need and teach them the foundation.
running is life, so watch out for arthritis. my boy got arthritis to the point his knees had no more cartilage and it was bone on bone. he had acl replacements at age 10 and 12. in the end, it was arthritis that got him because at age 14.5 he could no longer get up, even with those two knee replacements. if i could go back, i wouldve started giving him these joint supplements MUCH earlier than when I started: 1) glucosamine 2) chondroitin 3) green lipped mussel powder (https://www.chewy.com/super-snouts-joint-power-powder-joint/dp/130968) 4) monthly Adequan injections if you can afford it ($100/mo)
I did all that with my current dog (not a husky) and his joints are great even at age 12.5.
I crate my huskies and used to have those same pads. I recommend getting thicker memory foam ones when you can. The one pictured was nicely, but I can 💯 say my huskies look more comfortable sleeping on Orthopedic Crate Mat

If it doesn't have enough space for her to pass out, then she'll probably start getting pissed off and try to eat her way out. And yah, for mine I set up the room so she can easily go to sleep once she gets tired of crying that I'm gone. Breaks my heart hearing it when I leave but she isn't mature enough to be left out yet. It's come down to just trying to give um a safe and comfortable space to basically be in prison for while you're gone. This is the kennel I got mine. She bent the bars a bit when she was getting used to it but now she is chill while I'm gone.

Both my sister and my friend who got puppies in the past year found this helped crate training... neither were huskies and it wasn't a magic bullet, but it might be worth a try:
https://www.chewy.com/smart-pet-love-snuggle-puppy/dp/196019
Mostly yes. You can't know for sure unless you do a genetic test, and anyone else in this thread saying otherwise is talking out of their ass, acting like they know something they don't.
as someone with two huskies, a few suggestions:
get pet insurance, as soon as he has his first vet visit. puppies eat EVERYTHING, do dumb things, injure themselves in the weirdest ways; I think you’d be hard pressed to find a husky owner who took their puppy to the vet less than five times during the first year. it’s so worth it.
crate train, from the beginning. your puppy will cry for the first few nights, and it will break your heart. buy a snuggle puppy and bring it with you when you pick up your pup. the warmth and heartbeat will calm him on the car ride and the first few nights when he desperately misses his mama and siblings! crate training is also important long term as huskies can be so destructive if they’re unhappy or bored, even when they’re no longer puppies. my four-year-old just destroyed her bed because she was bored! if you give your puppy a treat every time he goes in the crate, and feed him every meal in his crate, he’ll learn that the crate is not punishment, but a place where good things happen!
-teething is a bitch. you can freeze carrots, celery stalks, and slices of cucumber to make healthy teething chews!
I got them off Amazon. Be aware they both have squeakers in them. Fennec had one tore and out in like the first hour. So I'd watch them so they don't end up swallowing it if yours is a big chewer. toys
Love your Reddit name! This one is sort of mid- range for price but the less expensive ones don't have the power to "de-shed" just by blowing...
Sorry ,sorry, sorry! Here you go :) Loobani treat toy
I’ve found the easy walk harness is the best. If they pull they just spin in circles. Easy Walk It’s magic when you run into rabbits or squirrels.

The horse shedder does much better with short haired animals (have both horses and dogs). Obviously, brand name isn't overly important, but I use an undercoat rake and follow up with a slicker brush.
As to a bath, I tend to do one after the first big blow out. Use both brushes, bathe dog, use both brushes again once he's dry.
So yeah, Boris has officially started his “spring blowout!” It’s just coming off in clumps… but man does he look handsome under all that dirty old fur (he’s a recently-rescued stray).
Any tips on the best brushes? Someone recommended these for him. Is that a good suggestion? And should I bathe him anytime soon?
Lol it’s really just his coolaroo bed 😂 was looking the other day at kids trampolines though cuz he loves doing this.
Try a slow feeder
I feed Orijen and ancient grain Farmina. They also like the Nulo brand of food. Stella and Chewy’s meal mixers on top is always a hit. Anything freeze dried. What mine love most is Farmers Dog, if I only had one that’s what I would feed. When mine has a tooth removed she ate canned Weruva, which can also be used as a topper. If I need her to eat something, take medication, that’s what I use. They both love it!! Husky’s are good at self regulation and only eating when they are hungry. Mine snack a lot, bite here and there until ready for a full meal. Mine mostly eat at night and can be free fed. The mushers I know cook for their dogs, using salmon, moose, deer, and put that warm over dog food. Huskies metabolisms are different than other dogs who aren’t bred to run 100-150 miles a day.
You’re Welcome! Glad to help! If her skin is really inflamed the high powered blower at the groomer might hurt. I also switched to this dog brush as it was easier on her skin than the furminator or other brushes with long bristles, but it still gets just as much fur! shedding blade I’m remembering now that when my girl’s was really bad I barely used the grooming blower and made sure to use it on low, you could see how inflamed her skin was when the high powered blower parted her fur, she was much happier with my hair dryer at home on cool. I also put her on skin, probiotics and immune system supplements. Her skin is back to normal but when she gets a random bite that turns into a spot I open a capsule of my own probiotic and use the powder on the spot to dry it out. It goes away within days. I was just trying to think of a skin friendly powder to keep them dry, randomly tried my probiotic and it works for her.
For the shedding, look up "pet dematting comb" on Amazon. It's about $15-20 USD
This is the one that I got:

It's not going to look that pretty on lol, but with some fabric pins you can hold it in place better. I only got this one because it looked comfortable.
Just constant nos if he tried to get on. He has his own room, and would probably try to sneak on our living room one if he thought he could get away with it lol.
Hey! My girl was spayed November 2021. She didn't use a cone for most of it, as I got her a doggy baby grow suit that buttons along her spine and covered her bandage amd scar. Worked wonders for her, and its designed for dogs so has taken into consideration their need to use the bathroom. I'll link it below.
Towards the end of her recovery my girl did have a cone for a week as she kept licking her front paw where her IV line was, and she wouldn't let it heal. We tried bandages, socks, fingerless gloves as a doggy leg warmer, but in the end she had to be shamed for a week. But for her main scar the suit above worked great. It also contains two suits so you can rotate them and wash them.
Hope this helps!

They make little stuffed animals that have heartbeats for dogs, like this one https://www.amazon.com/Moropaky-Hearbeat-Anxiety-Behavioral-Training/dp/B08BJ133KS/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=18T6DNW5IA867&keywords=puppy+heartbeat+stuffed+animal&qid=1642272618&sprefix=puppy+heart%2Caps%2C87&sr=8-5
That helped my parents with crate training when they brought home their 8 week old puppy. Good luck!
Sorry for the delay in my response!
Here is one of the puzzles I got for my girls. I have several, but all by this company. Also, have you tried a Kong? One of my girls really loves to work at that - I change around what I stuff inside.

You can even make games - Once in awhile I play "cups" with my pups. I'll put a treat under 1 of 3, swap them all around, and if they pick the right cup they get the treat. It's actually pretty easy to keep them engaged once you find several things they enjoy. I try to do at least 1-2 enrichment activities each day with them and they absolutely love it (as do I). If you ever have any other questions, feel free to shoot me a message.
