It's a novelization based on the script of the Nolans brothers. More details here
Nice to know. I was only aware of Kip Thorne book, The Science of Interstellar.. Which is also a good book if someone wants to know more about the scientific theory behind the movie.
I try to answer this in a post at the link below, but the TLDR is 5th dimensional beings exist outside of the 3rd dimension which is bound by time, so aren't bound by it. Yes, from our perspective their existence depends on Cooper and co going thru the wormhole THEY made, but that doesn't matter because from their perspective, all of existence occurred at the same time, not us first then them later. In this way their existence wasn't causal, a result of evolving from ancestral humans, it just was.
It's still a massive paradox, granted, but that's because our minds aren't built to comprehend this stuff. To our 5th dimensional bros, it totes makes sense.

http://spaceengine.org/ Ever heard of space engine? Perhaps you may like this. Its basically a universe simulator and there are models of interstellar ships you can download and the black hole at the center of the milky way has a accretion disk.
...and here I was, wondering if Interstellar is after all only a generic popcorn-blast just pretending to be brainy/intellectual, warranting nothing more than zealous over-interpretation because the director opened themes willy-nilly left and right without so much as a satisfying lead, being shunned by more in-depth analysts for ALL ETERNITY, only living on its technical merits and nothing more.
It's nice to be wrong.
edit, from one of the links in the article: https://medium.com/@somebadideas/on-interstellar-love-time-and-the-limitless-prison-of-our-cosmos-ef59ee28fd8e
>We are then, at midpoint of the film, offered a subjective, metaphorical personal belief offered by the scientist character Brand, not a validation of it, mind you, that all their hope against time is bound up in love. I find it somewhat worrying that this has been regarded as problematic. To get very real about it, the very fabric of space and time we inhabit is a limitless prison, its constraints dooming us all, and the vastness of that prison is only challenged absurdly by human ambition, will, and, yes, compassion. The scale of the cosmos is not cruel or petty or desolate; it is none of things, it is vacuum, an abyss without morality or judgment, where the only eventuality is separation and entropy. It is indifferent, and you only have to get lucky enough to leave light pollution behind and see the Milky Way with your own eyes to feel preposterously small.
Love. This.
I challenge someone to find a cheap look-alike
this is the best I could find
Well I got this one as part of an Interstellar collector's edition box set which I found here:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HGL83H9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_Q626EKYKKQKCFCSTATG1
Sadly I don't know where else to get it
Edit: if you wanna see all the other things in the box set you can check out the pictures on Amazon or see my other post here:
You would want to get a Pioneer or a Klipsch. They make a very good surround system. If you really are in a quite tight budget, You can visit our (not so) friendly Amazon or E-bay. Also, Proper positioning of speaker can really help.
Agreed. I wrote a quick synopsis last night after I got home from seeing it, just to settle things in my head, and came to the same conclusion. Promise I didn't see the chart until after I wrote mine!
Yes. This is the line in context:
~~Dr. Brand: We must confront the reality that nothing in our solar system can help us.~~
~~Cooper: Now you need to tell me what your plan is to save the world.~~
~~Dr. Brand: We're not meant to save the world. We're meant to leave it, and this is the mission you were trained for.~~
~~Cooper: I've got kids, professor.~~
~~Dr. Brand: Then get out there and save them. We must reach far beyond our own lifespans. We must think not as individuals but as a species. We must confront the reality of interstellar travel.~~
Edit: Upon further investigation this is in fact only from the trailer, although tons of places cite it as being in the movie this way. However, the screenplay does contain it, in one of the videos Brand watches as they are in space. I'm almost tempted to torrent the movie to confirm, but it seems like it fits. Anyone who already has double check for me if you can.
Maybe non-IMAX, but I believe IMAX has committed to The Hobbit starting Dec. 15. ETA: Here's a link to Fandango listed showings on 12/18 in NYC
Answered here:
> Two possibilities: > > It may be a dense, small planet, in which case required delta-v for orbit could actually be lower than on Earth even though surface gravity is higher. > > Required orbital velocity rises with the square root of planetary mass over planetary radius: sqrt(m/r). Surface gravity rises with m/r^2. Hence, decreasing the radius (and therefore volume) of a planet while holding mass constant increases surface gravity much faster than it increases required orbital velocity. > > If you had a planet with 0.5 Earth radii, and a mass of 0.325 Earths (and therefore 2.6 times Earth's density, since its volume would be 0.5^3 = 0.125 Earths), then its surface gravity would be 0.325/(0.5^2) G's, or 1.3 G's. Its required orbital velocity would be sqrt(0.325/0.5), or about 81% of Earth's, within reach of even present-day single stage rockets. > > It may be spinning around its axis very quickly, such that if you're on its equator you already have quite a lot of inertial velocity towards orbit.
Don't know when you getting into town but it looks like it is in Imax through next Sunday at least...
Of course, I searched Portland, OR - my luck you probably meant Portland, Maine
http://www.fandango.com/interstellar_163452/movietimes?location=Portland,%20OR&date=12%2f14%2f2014 (don't know how to hyperlink in comments...fml)
Believe me, it looks really cool. Or you can try it by yourself https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.bohush.interstellar.watch
"Where most Blu-ray discs are typically delivered in rates in the 24Mbps to 30Mbps ballpark, these "mastered in 4K" discs deliver at 35Mbps to 38Mbps. A greater bitrate means a much clearer picture, and less moments where blocking or blurring will occur, particularly in action sequences."
"extends the available colour gamut to better represent the colour space that the original film was intended to be displayed at"
"Sony 4K televisions will be able to identify a "mastered in 4K" disc and use an upscaling algorithm based on the same formula used at Sony Pictures to downscale the film from 4K to HD."
So while it is better than a traditional blu-ray, its not UHD.

Hello, I'm a bot! The movie you linked is called Mission to Mars, here are some Trailers
interesting... good luck for whatever comes your way :) I too just did a blog on what interstellar means to me, and posted here.. it's more of the uplifting blog types.. but your experience is a better and new one.. try giving it a read.. Thanks :)
Glad you found it! It comes late but maybe for the next movie, there's an app/site named Justwatch that let's you know in wich streming platform you can find any movie:) I'm from Spain so I'm not sure if it works in other countries, hope it does
I'm talking about 3D Max the 3D modelling software suite. Well, I guess it's called 3D*S* Max more specifically.
http://www.autodesk.com/products/3ds-max/overview
I'm not talking about 3D cinema.
Well the largest is the science center in jersey but it's a dome and I dont like that. I prefer one large screen, the president of IMAX voted it his favorite and b4 Interstellar the manager came in and said it was the largest true IMAX in North America. http://www.fandango.com/movie-news/where-are-the-best-imax-theaters-in-the-world-726876
The script you’re finding is the original 2008 draft. Finding a free PDF of the actual script might be difficult. thankfully you can purchase your own physical copy of the real one HERE
Dude there are many free ones on the Play store here I'll link you one which works really good and is free it's the one I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vpn.free.hotspot.secure.vpnify
The first draft of the screenplay was written by a theoretical physicist and Cal-Tech professor, Kip Thorne. Kip and his co-writer’s goals were to write a SciFi movie who’s events were either scientifically accurate or could be possible / are consistent with the current body of scientific knowledge, with some speculation mixed in.
Although Jonathan Nolan then Christopher Nolan later rewrote Kip’s screenplay, Kip stayed on the project as a scientific consultant and executive producer. He wrote the book The Science of Interstellar where he explains this and much more. https://www.amazon.com/Science-Interstellar-Kip-Thorne/dp/0393351378 .
It is a very scientifically accurate movie.
Any chance you could link the bundle you’re talking about? Only thing I can find on amazon is this:
https://www.amazon.com/Interstellar-Blu-ray-Ellen-Burstyn/dp/B0767FCYDW
But that link doesn’t specify anywhere that it’s in 4K, so I’m hesitant to order.
Thanks!
The book is called Specter of the Monolith
here's the link:
I really think they should adapt Neal Stephenson's <em>Seveneves</em>, it would make a great story with some nice overlap with both Interstellar and Gravity.
If you ever get the chance, read Spin. The basic premise is that Earth is shrouded by a barrier put in place by super-advanced aliens. People discover that Earth has now, basically, become Miller's world -- super slow time passing inside the barrier while outside the barrier time is passing normally. I'll leave you to read it, but basically the idea is that humanity get the opportunity to join the galactic community before destroying itself.
I'd love to know too.
/u/Eb28, you may be able to buy it from Amazon.com and get it sent to the UK. I would perhaps try this, but I'm not quite ready to drop that much on it.
anytime. as i commented on other post, novelization is also amazing but i couldn't find 'educational purposes' version so ill link you to the amazon version http://www.amazon.com/Interstellar-The-Official-Movie-Novelization/dp/1783293691

"The idea in earlier drafts of the script..."
For the novelization:
First, I was in the same boat as you after seeing this the first time, mind all fired up and begging for more! A truly incredible film.
It is humans of the far, far, faaaar future, or farther along in the block universe's arrow of time, (assuming the movie wouldn't give us a false revelation), they make the wormhole and communicate with us for unknown reasons except their need to stay connected at some level, and there is no "first time" in a loop/interleave within the block universe (a representation of spacetime which General Relativity says is the actual reality) - these events always have and did and will exist if you can witness any point in spacetime at will (as a 5D-perceiving being could).
Go learn about the block universe and stable 4D loops through the 5th dimension, where effect can come before cause because all of the 4D block universe (all of space and time in our universe) exist as one solid fact from the 5th dimensional perspective, to get the Einsteinian science foundation that this story is built upon.
Also, and trying not to sound to pretentious, but search my name in this sub for my posts on this with other redditors who have had the same comments - there's a lot of discussion on this that I was able to jump into it for some. I'm no expert on the matter, but I've done my fair share of reading and I believe I've gotten a solid understanding of the "physical reality" this film is based upon.
Finally, get Kip's book on The Science of Interstellar, you won't be disappointed.
This is an older system, but the speakers are absolutely great for the price. SLS is a pro-audio company that dabbled in consumer audio with Best Buy and made this system several years ago.
It's what I'd reccomend: http://www.amazon.com/SLS-Q-Line-Surround-Theater-System/dp/B000JZSYZO
You loved interstellar? Get to know the physics behind it. I would say, read Science of Interstellar by Kip Thorne himself who decided to bring a great movie based on science fiction in Hollywood and inspire Astronomy in people.
The Illuminated Star Projection Box will be available on 2 February!
I will make a list of shops that sell them:
UK
Netherlands
The list is in order of country the shops are located, but they may ship to other countries
