Ok Friends, thats 2 hours and 12 minutes. I'll come back later and answer more but now I have to go wash myself. Please check out "Wish I Was Here" this weekend. http://www.fandango.com/wishiwashere_171788/movieoverview
If you've liked my other stuff I promise you will like it. If you haven't, maybe give it a try... this might be the one that converts you. I'd like to end this AMA like I end all things in my life; with a brief message from Hooch:
Yep he's blind.
>With his explosive movements and fire-breathing electric guitar, there's no doubt The Doof Warrior is one of the more fascinating characters in Mad Max: Fury Road. Miller told us his was one comic they never got to tackle, and teased the story he'd like to tell.
>"One character who didn’t get his own comic was the Doof Warrior," he revealed. "I want to tell a story about him in a comic if there’s an opportunity. For me, it was all about how someone who is blind survives in this place. How does someone weak survive the apocalypse? He survived because he was blind – because he lived deep in an unlit mine, where it was an advantage to be blind."
>So how did he wind up playing the electric guitar during battle?
>Miller explained: "So, deep in the mine, he would sit there and eat rodents and get the water from the sea bed -- and he would also play his guitar where no one could hear it. One day Immortan Joe came past, and someone heard the music. Then he was called upon when [Joe] needed a bugler or the bagpipe -- someone who helps call everyone to war."
I love Ving Rhames, but that story is loosely true. In reality, Junior Rhames (his brother) approached Matt Dillon about whether he had ever worked on broadway with Ving. He introduced himself as Junior Rhames and explained how they'd lost contact. Matt Dillon, naturally, reconnected the two.
Source: http://www.edrive.com/edrive03/celebs/ving-rhames/index.html
http://www.fandango.com/vingrhames/biography/p59836
Again, still a great story, but it's not as if Ving was walking down the streets of New York and recognized his long lost brother. Ving had already been on TV and was, at minimum, a name a lot of people had worked with (thanks in large part to Miami Vice). The fact is, Ving was popular enough that it made it relatively easy for Junior when he happened upon another guy from Hollywood.
Fandango confirms closest place it suggested is Paramount, CA.
edit: Google agrees
They are supposed to be in the same universe. Here's an interview with George Miller. http://www.fandango.com/movie-news/interview-director-george-miller-answers-all-your-big-mad-max-fury-road-questions-749278
I wouldn't go that far. The Spider-Man: Homecoming director confirmed in a recent interview it wasn't connected to the MCU in any form.
>Fandango: Sony just announced a Venom movie – is that connected to your film at all?
>Watts: It’s not. It’s not connected to the Marvel world, so that’s really intriguing… what that will be. I don’t know anything about it. It’s not connected, so there’s not that overlap. I’m only focused on my movie right now.
Eh...except it was marketed as occurring in the same universe as Cloverfield
per george miller: Q. When looking at the four films as a whole, where does Fury Road take place in the timeline?
Miller: If you put a gun to my head, I’d say after Thunderdome, but it’s very loose. I can’t even work out the chronology of the first, second and third, let alone the fourth thirty years later.
Q. So they're all like one-off movies?
Miller: They’re kind of like standalones exploring the whole world – like Westerns. The loner, you know? I think it predates cinema, actually. There was always the wanderer, who wandered the wasteland looking for some kind of meaning or purpose. From samurais to Vikings, and especially Westerns.
Adam Wingard will pay the first person $400 to find the map that was lost in the original movie. It is an easter egg that apparently even the executive producers couldn't find, and they were told what part of the movie it was in. http://www.fandango.com/movie-news/the-blair-witch-filmmakers-will-pay-you-if-you-can-find-this-hidden-easter-egg-751321
you know it's fake right?
it's a purpose made video fox made to promote planet of the apes. they tried to make it look like some anonymous poster, then changed the description once it went viral. the guys were actors. i think the chimp was playing himself :)
here is the description at youtube: Published on Jul 6, 2011
Soldiers give monkey a loaded gun..
sucks that it's fake though. i wanted to beleive
PS it's not a monkey it's a chimp. chimps aren't monkeys. Why is that a pet peeve of mine? it's dumb that it bugs me. though chimps are great apes. along with bonobos (very similar to chimps but they fuck instead of fight) orangutans and gorillerz
> So Fury Road probably takes place after Road Warrior but before Thunderdome.
I believe this was stated by Miller. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere in the recent past.
EDIT: looks like I was wrong. Miller says in this interview that it's probably after Thunderdome, but even he isn't really sure. http://www.fandango.com/movie-news/interview-director-george-miller-answers-all-your-big-mad-max-fury-road-questions-749278
I don't recall him saying that directly. See below:
What would you call this film? A sequel? A reboot?
George Miller: I like to call it a revisit.
When looking at the four films as a whole, where does Fury Road take place in the timeline?
Miller: If you put a gun to my head, I’d say after Thunderdome, but it’s very loose. I can’t even work out the chronology of the first, second and third, let alone the fourth thirty years later.

This is my favorite part of the drama. It doesn't have anything to do with the Suge Knight stuff, but it's still hilarious. I also saw the movie and can confirm that it's "p good".
Having the sabers illuminate the environment around them is fucking brilliant and i'm shocked that lucas didn't think of it sooner.

The only legit IMAX theater in San Diego is the OmniMax dome installed at the Ruben H Fleet center in Balboa Park. There are other theaters in San Diego advertising as IMAX, but they don't meet the full IMAX standard.
To my knowledge the closest real IMAX that plays theatrical films is the Edwards Spectrum 21 up in Irvine, which is a really amazing theater. I saw Fantasia 2000 in it when it came out and was blown away by just how impressive that screen is.
No he didn't:
> Fandango: There’s a story out there saying that you bought a real World War II-era plane, rigged it with IMAX cameras and then crashed it. Is that true? He didn't, you can rest easy.
> Nolan: Not true. I think the reason that rumor developed was because we did a lot with real planes. We figured out how to get the pilots and these planes to be able to do these dogfights very much for real. We then constructed perfect replicas to be used to crash – and I think the two things got confused. We would never crash a vintage plane; they are far too valuable. And I don’t just mean financially valuable. The Spitfire, for example, is just the most magnificent machine ever engineered. It’s just the most wonderful thing.
Which turned out to be a really good movie.
http://www.ew.com/article/2016/02/26/jj-abrams-10-cloverfield-lane-interview
They also explicitly said it was only a "spiritual successor" to Cloverfield, and did not involve the same characters or monster.

That's FALSE. He didn't destroy a real plane, the ones they crashed were a replicas.
>#Fandango: There’s a story out there saying that you bought a real World War II-era plane, rigged it with IMAX cameras and then crashed it. Is that true?

Wow, it looks like D'Souza's movie really is getting yanked. I live in a major metropolitan area, and it is no where to be found.
A movie ticket in NYC is on average $22. My gf and I will go see Sunday before noon movies sometimes which are $8.
But then if you have an IMAX superhero movie addiction (like myself), those tickets go as high as $30.
Then this link which shows the most recent movies that just came out are $20.50. The older films go as low as $16..
2. When looking at the four films as a whole, where does Fury Road take place in the timeline?
Miller: If you put a gun to my head, I’d say after Thunderdome, but it’s very loose. I can’t even work out the chronology of the first, second and third, let alone the fourth thirty years later.
George Miller has stated in interviews that Immortan Joe was a colonel during pre-apocalypse times so it's likely that those medals are actually his.

Funny that I've seen almost all of these but never really thought of them as child porn in any way.
Apparently yes
And it's doing so badly, that he's even taken to Facebook to beg his fans to boost his rating.
>The highly anticipated adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey was supposed to come out this February, but that has since been pushed back to July 28, 2017 in order to give everyone more time to finish a movie that just wrapped production a couple months ago.
>Due to Dark Tower sliding into a spot originally held by the reboot/sequel (or requel) of Jumanji, that film starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black, will now shift to December 22, 2017, positioning it as the big family movie for next Christmas.
>Fandango: You throw religion and spirituality into the equation for Prometheus, though, and it almost acts as a hand grenade. We had heard it was scripted that the Engineers were targeting our planet for destruction because we had crucified one of their representatives, and that Jesus Christ might have been an alien. Was that ever considered?
>RS: We definitely did, and then we thought it was a little too on the nose. But if you look at it as an “our children are misbehaving down there” scenario, there are moments where it looks like we’ve gone out of control, running around with armor and skirts, which of course would be the Roman Empire. And they were given a long run. A thousand years before their disintegration actually started to happen. And you can say, “Lets’ send down one more of our emissaries to see if he can stop it. Guess what? They crucified him.
I saw it in come up in the closed captions. If I can't find it anywhere, I'll take a picture of my TV screen if I have to.
Edit: Found it. Immortan Joe is a slight adjustment to the word 'immortal.' The character Nux says 'mcfeasting' instead of using the word 'feasting.'"
Per George Miller himself, see the second question. Of course you're free to your interpretation, I just prefer to stick to his word.
Edit: The actual quote in question: >When looking at the four films as a whole, where does Fury Road take place in the timeline?
>Miller: If you put a gun to my head, I’d say after Thunderdome, but it’s very loose. I can’t even work out the chronology of the first, second and third, let alone the fourth thirty years later.
He hasn't said it in as many words, but when you corner him and flat out ask about Max's continuity, he first avoids the topic and then gets mythological.
"If you put a gun to my head, I’d say after Thunderdome, but it’s very loose. I can’t even work out the chronology of the first, second and third, let alone the fourth thirty years later."
"They’re kind of like standalones exploring the whole world – like Westerns. The loner, you know? I think it predates cinema, actually. There was always the wanderer, who wandered the wasteland looking for some kind of meaning or purpose. From samurais to Vikings, and especially Westerns."
Max is a mythological figure, and that air of mystery around him is part of that allure. One thing I liked about Fury Road is that even though Max gives us some voice over and we have glimpses inside of his head, everything we see raises more questions then answers. Max himself can't really tell you where he came from or where he thinks he's going when he takes off back into the Wasteland. A guy like that would inspire people who met him, even in passing, to construct their own tales of what he's done and what they think has happened to him.

I saw a preview of this movie when I went to go see Crazy, Stupid Love and it did indeed look awful. It did not, however, look as bad as the preview of this movie.
Carrie Fisher herself was fooled; Gareth Edwards said that Kathleen Kennedy had shown her the footage, and she thought that the CGI Leia was footage of herself from a take she didn't remember filming that had been manipulated.
Why wouldn't it be true? If you are worried about buying the tickets then buy them online or show up and buy them at the self service kiosk for a future date.

There is no link on the Fathom page for the event. The Fandango page has a location search feature but it will come back with zero results.
The thing about Fathom events is that they are typically all held in the same theaters (except for the Opera/Ballet showings, which are more limited) because Fathom has contracts with those theaters or chains. In my area they play at most (but not all) of the Showcase Theaters venues. Go to a listing where tickets are already on sale, like Home Alone and see what theaters in your area are showing it. Chances are they'll do Sherlock as well. You can always call the theater directly to see if they have any idea.
Or, relax. All information will be available in a couple of days. You'll know then if there's a screening in your area. I've been to a dozen Fathom events, and they very rarely sell out. You're not going to get locked out if you're not on the site, credit card in hand, the moment they go on sale.
This is so cool! I'll be buying my tickets thru here!

I'm looking forward to these comics! In a way, I hope they don't clear up too much...I like looking at The Road Warrior, Beyond Thunderdome, and Fury Road as retellings of the events that Max was involved in after wandering into the wastelands after Mad Max.
George Miller himself said that Fury Road wouldn't quite work in the timeline:
>Miller: If you put a gun to my head, I’d say after Thunderdome, but it’s very loose. I can’t even work out the chronology of the first, second and third, let alone the fourth thirty years later.

If you opt to not be lazy, you can most likely navigate and "learn something" for yourself. There are even show times on them! Any theater other than JC or the Screen you're going to be paying full price unless you matinee. You may have to "act like" you're buying tickets to find the price but it's really just a matter of laziness not to do this for yourself.
For those Divergent fans: Today only, get a free Kindle copy of Divergent when you buy advance tickets for the movie from Fandango.
In case anyone is wondering why it is there, the "D" is signifying that the screening is using a digital projector to differentiate it to showings that are regular film. The movie theatre near me does both for the movies shown like that in case your a hard ass about it.

Southpoint is showing the original at, you guessed it, 4:29.
I would definitely be going if not for my oblivious decision to fly out of state on this very afternoon...
If you're in the United States, Fandango would be a good option. Right now they are for sale in some areas. It also shows you some theaters that are airing it in your area too. You could also just go to the theater on release night and just purchase the tickets there.
> Are they out yet and are they going to be out of stock really quickly?
The tickets are out in other countries, but not in the United States which I presume where you are located. I doubt they'll be out of stock, but it will definitely be packed for the first three days when the movie is out.
Edit: /u/TyroKith brought up a good point about living in larger cities. I'd suggest purchasing your tickets ahead of time. So just stick around. Someone will likely repost on this subreddit when the tickets will be available for purchase. News networks will probably be talking about it too, as it will be a pretty big summer release.
Edit 2: /u/49ersGifGuy mentioned that some select cities are selling these tickets. Cities like Los Angeles appear to be selling tickets. Consider checking up on your city to see if they're available right now.
Recent interview on Fandango had Miller saying it's probably after Thunderdome, but he's not 100% sure either.

I'm planning on going to see a drive-in movie at West Wind Solano, provided they get something new in by then. Spongebob and American Sniper aren't particularly romantic. Put down the back seats, pop a foam mattress in the truck with some blankets. Bring a ton of popcorn and candy and a bottle of wine. It's going to be great!
Well, it's not true. /u/ArchDucky is spreading a false rumor.
> Fandango: There’s a story out there saying that you bought a real World War II-era plane, rigged it with IMAX cameras and then crashed it. Is that true?

Irvine Spectrum has real IMAX, but at the moment they are only showing Rogue One in 3D. I think if you want to see it in 2D real IMAX, you may be out of luck.
I'm not a Marvel fanboy. I'm not sure where you're getting the info to infer that I am. You and others brought up Captain America, not me.
My problem extends from the fact that, when I look at the promo stuff that's been released so far:
it looks like more of the same. Based upon the track record of how this franchise has been handled from a stylistic standpoint, and based on the evidence that has been provided, how can I not believe it will be more mud and rust? Should trailers and other publicity material start appearing that have color involved, I'll happily change my tune.
Ain't gonna happen, though.
Here you are. So the most recent movies that just came out are $20.50. The older films go as low as $16.
IMAX can get as high as $30.

Pick any movie and check the price, he isn't exaggerating on the ticket prices at all. 15 for a regular ticket and 21 for iMax/3D is the normal prices here. Only thing i see wrong in his post is that in AMC specifically you can get a large popcorn and soda with unlimited refills for close to 14 post tax. Assuming you each get your own popcorn than tha's close to 60. Add in some candies and you can easily clime the total bill up to $100.

I disagree.
I think he has the right facial features for it... now that he is older and has wrinkles.
I'm on mobile so the best I can do atm is link an article with the photo I wanted to show.

Ok, so the photo of him from that article. Take off a few pounds and add Joker makeup... he could totally pull it off.

Miller said if there was a timeline that it would be after Thunderdome. See this interview: http://www.fandango.com/movie-news/interview-director-george-miller-answers-all-your-big-mad-max-fury-road-questions-749278
Just a thought, perhaps Fury Road is more of an alternate timeline? That's my take on it at time.
In an interview, George Miller stated Fury Road is more of a revisit and the adventures of Mad Max is to be taken as stand alone in a way. http://www.fandango.com/movie-news/interview-director-george-miller-answers-all-your-big-mad-max-fury-road-questions-749278
Not exactly explicitly. From the interview.
> When looking at the four films as a whole, where does Fury Road take place in the timeline?
>Miller: If you put a gun to my head, I’d say after Thunderdome, but it’s very loose. I can’t even work out the chronology of the first, second and third, let alone the fourth thirty years later.
>Oh and BTW FR takes place between Mad Max and Road Warrior
According to Miller, he said that if he had to place Fury Road in the timeline, it would be after Beyond Thunderdome:
>Miller: If you put a gun to my head, I’d say after Thunderdome, but it’s very loose. I can’t even work out the chronology of the first, second and third, let alone the fourth thirty years later.

You can sign up at Fandango to be emailed whenever tickets go on sale.
Other ticket sites probably have the same feature.
Did you actually see the movie? Once you get past the title, it becomes increasingly obvious that the movie is only very slightly tongue in cheek, and really not even that self aware. (Or at least, it tries to be, and still manages to fail even at that.)
Mike and the writers likened it to campy B-movies from yesteryear, like Hobgoblins or Attack of the Killer Shrews - similar in tone to those, and they were pretty successful riffing material. The writers felt the same way about screening Sharknado, and thought it would work as well.
I just bought my boyfriend and I tickets for the SD one. Heads up, although it says TBA for San Diego on the main site they are actually already available for purchase on Fandango!
You can't judge him too harshly. He does live in a trailer home Will Smith's trailer
Maybe non-IMAX, but I believe IMAX has committed to The Hobbit starting Dec. 15. ETA: Here's a link to Fandango listed showings on 12/18 in NYC
I just looked on Fandango's site.
15 are "opening". I've only seen 2 of the trailers. And those are the first two on the list.
A whopping 207 are Now Playing, I only recognize about 10 of them.
Didn't see Starplex La Mirada 7 here yet. (They also own Woodbridge 5.)
$2/$3 movies, decently clean, $1 hot dogs.
It's LA County, but if you live in north OC it isn't too far. Regency Norwalk 8 is also cheap with $1 hot dogs. But it's way more ghetto than other theaters listed here.
The Dolby site shows totally different "Atmos Equipped" theatres than Fandango does when I search.
How do I know who is right?
And how do I know which showings are Atmos? For instance, Dolby lists a nearby theatre as having Atmos and also 7.1 types of audio. Is the 2d or 3d showing the atmos one? Or both?
How do I know?
Edit: I see on Fandango it shows the features of each individual showing. All of the ATMOS showings in the area have already moved on to X-men, no more for Godzilla. :( It's not the whole theatre that is equipped, usually just one screen.
Last night I eschewed Spidey 2 for Under the Skin the Scarlett Johansson alien horror movie. I had to down 3 beers just to put my self to sleep, I was so scared I was going to have nightmares lol. Luckily I didn't I just woke up with a bad hangover.
Here's the ticket and theater information.
The most epic science fiction movie that never got made, but has influenced countless movies after it as the story boards made their way around Hollywood. If you're a fan of Jodorowsky, Holy Mountain, El Topo, Santa Sangre, or Frank Herbert's Dune series, this is a MUST SEE documentary. It was amazing, and Jodorowsky is an incredible man.
the 48 hfr is exclusivly 3d. the 2d and the standard 3d will be in 24. You have to find an exlusive theater to see it. I thought it was way worth a little drive though.
go to the link and look for showtimes&tickets in your zip code. This one is only the hfr so everything it lists should be good. http://www.fandango.com/thehobbit:anunexpectedjourneyhfr3d_160262/movieoverview
