No problem! It’s a great seat for me as a female rider. Anatomy is different and our seats should be different too. This seat has been a game changer for me, as I started off with the seat that my husband used and had a lot of discomfort. I don’t have any trouble with saddle issues anymore.
This. I have 4 bikes vertically like this and I just bought something like these except a bit bigger and with the holes vertically aligned. Put em into my studs with lag bolts. Got a couple cheap u lock/cable combos and locked everything up.
Spank Spoon in 60mm rise, I think they’re 780mm. Im tall and I put these with a shortened stem on my bikes to give me a more relaxed riding position. Kills climbing a little bit though I’ve noticed.

Bought a pair of deity black label bars for my hard tail. Almost 90$. A couple months later picked up some cheap flat bars from Amazon to get a cheap bike back on the road with a wider grip.. they felt the same. Are they? Well, one company says what sort of aluminum, and one does not. Will they snap? Haven't yet... Would I jump with them? Nope.
I have this:
https://www.amazon.com/Crankbrothers-M19-Multi-Tool-Case/dp/B0848JJDTJ?th=1&psc=1
Super useful all in one, and the chain tool has saved my butt when the chain broke while out on a ride about 5 miles from my car.
I feel your pain. Try going to a hobby store and get some matching paint and clear coat to fill it in.
I preemptively applied 3m vinyl tape on almost all over my bike including my forks to anticipate the paint damage. It's not too late...saved my bike plenty of times.
$15 is a terrific price if everything on it works.
Just to be clear, this is not a hardtail mountain bike. It's a hybrid for rides in the city.
Looks similar to this one:
I bought the giro one on Amazon with mips looks good doesn’t get hot Giro Fixture MIPS Adult Road Cycling Helmet - Universal Adult (54-61 cm), Matte Grey (2021) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075RRBTDM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_wLejr1bmQUkMy
most will probably come from the same factory. I've been liking tools from pro bike and would vouch for them as far as getting your money's worth. https://www.amazon.com/Pro-Bike-Tool-CO2-Inflator/dp/B017KU1DIK/ref=sr_1_10?crid=1GSGB9617H6YE&dchild=1&keywords=bontrager+c02+inflator&qid=1625684832&sprefix=bontrager+c02+%2Csporting%2C189&sr=8-10

I bought a bontrager one from a local shop, seems solid but have yet to test it out.
This is the one I have (I think -- it was a gift):
https://www.amazon.com/CXWXC-CO2-Inflator-x16g-Cartridges/dp/B08HH97LLP
I give it a thumbs up, but it is the only one I have used, so someone with more experience might chime in with a better recommendation.
I just bought two packs of these on amazon and me and my buddy just cut it to fit. It's been holding up great the last few months of riding. Im usually out there 2-3 times a week, so really happy with it. Save the money and use the extra $175 on a upgrade.
The plastic pedal just come on the bike so you can ride it around in the parking lot at the shop and so they can say it comes with pedals They will work but not nearly as well as actual good pedals. Nobody leaves those pedals on for more than a few days after getting a mountain bike. You definitely don’t need expensive pedals I run these BW USA Berm Platform Bike Pedals - Lightweight Aluminum Flat Pedals for MTB and BMX https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0831SZ641/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_v1MGEb9ZBXFFE And I love them. An even cheaper option are fooker also on amazon but I dislike those. Basically what your looking for is metal pins the actual platform doesn’t really matter but i prefer metal. The plastic ones are kind of a joke and you will slip your feet off of them constantly with better pedals shinners will happen less frequently but with higher consequence. You can also improve grip on the pedals by buying mountain hike specific shoes like five tens they also make you look cooler. In general upgrading contact points (seat grips pedals and cockpit) with the bike improves the riding experience exponentially Hope this helps get out and ride. 🤙🏻
Thats nuts! My wife and I had bought these two exactly as well when we first got back out, she has since upgraded to the Miami Green 7! Also, for 10 bucks this looks really good on that bike!

Would highly recommend anyone who appreciates a good cross country tour to visit the Chilterns. Lots of lovely single-track, beautiful moody forests, fun descents and super convenient train connections all over. This is the route I did. It's a complete mix of surfaces and biking styles. My friend managed pretty well on his gravel bike and was faster on the smoother sections but had to walk some of the technical ascents or downhill bits.
Dakine hotlaps 5l hydration hip pack would be a rad gift.
I have this bike repair stand and it's great.
A chain checker would be a good gift too.
Night riding lights would be cool too. Glowworm makes good ones would be around $300.
NICEDACK Bike Fender MTB Mud... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WZPQ2SY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Saw that you asked for the fender and figured to not let you wait haha! I got sprayed on my first ride and decided that they’re a must! haha. I honestly don’t know why I see so few bikes with back fender… and these ones are super light weight, flexible and quick to install. I will move the front fender about 10mm further back eventually since it’s on the smaller side for a 29’ wheel but so far I like them and they get the job done!
The red reflexes that you se on the pictures are stickers so they’re optional to put on, also… they folded the end “lip” which I chose not to.
Ill get back to you on the other parts later today :)
I think I posted in your other thread. What about instead of spraying clear. Why don't you just put some clear 3m vinyl on the top tube instead?
As far as I can find the best you're going to do without going to a cassette is a 13-34 tooth.
Your best bet to get some decent range without having to spend a ton is to find a cheap hub that will take a cassette and lace it onto the spare wheel and then pick something like a ltwoo a7 drivetrain up, that will get you an 11-46 tooth range for around $100 assuming you can do the work yourself.
Look at Thickslick tires. I used these on my MTB converted to city ride in NYC. Fast and held up very well. I also never had a flat riding these even with potholes and manhole covers.
https://www.amazon.com/LONKER-Bracket-Crankset-Mountain-Disassembly/dp/B07B9V9WFN that's the tool you need and you should look into what bike you have and find out the size i dont know the brand of the bike so cant look into it for you but there is probaly a way to fit a hollowtech BB into it and add some Deore cranks
Thank you! I looked up Avid BB5 brake pads and they are circular which matches the ones on the bike. They should hopefully fit. (The ones I found are: https://www.amazon.co.uk/CNC-Bicycle-Brake-Promax-pairs/dp/B08QMF2VSK/ref=sr\_1\_3\_sspa?crid=2YGBOFPNLSA2T&dchild=1&keywords=avid%2Bbb5%2Bdisc%2Bbrake%2Bpads&qid=1623253974&sprefix=avid%2Bbb5%2B%2Caps%2C153&sr=8-3-spons&sp... Now I just have to look up how to actually install them.
Thanks, I haven't actually ridden it yet. I might be fine once I have shoes and stuff on, I've only sat on it so far.
For tubeless, did you have to buy anything extra? I know for my Diamondback Sync'r I had to buy something like this with the valves built in but not sure if this will need the same since they're advertised as tubeless ready while the diamondback I had to really work to get it to finally be tubeless. What materials did you use?

These have been great, and incredible for the price. You have some color options too. I’ve already smashed these on a few rocks and they still look new. Highly recommend.
Sorry, I totally space-cased my response.
I actually bought a Tranz-X Kitsuma Dropper (external routing) for $135.
And a Puget MTB Dropper Lever 2x for $31. I think the cables came with this purchase.
My Marlin 7 did NOT have a hole to route an internal dropper. But i did snake it through the downtube in the extra slot.
I’ve had 2 brands of digital presta go flaky (one SKS).

If you have the black pedals, assuming the "cheap" non grippy ones, just about most pedals will be an upgrade.
If you really want to upgrade on a budget you can check out the fooker pedals. They are "identical" to the Chester's. They are 100% a knockoff pedal but they are worth every bit of the 20ish bucks you'll spend on them.
fooker (I know I know, not exactly the most trustworthy of names)
For those that will say don't support knockoff companies, I know I know, but options are nice.
I know everyone is crapping on you for the rack, and screw the haters...
Just for reference sake, the two foam pads sit On the trunk lid, and the bottom two basically sit on your license plate. Make sure you tighten and then half hitch the loops (that hold tension with friction) because those will come lose. That nylon strap is really prone to coming loose. You can also get the length set in place and then sew the strap in place. Cut the extra slack and be done with it.
Allen makes an adapter for mountain bikes. It keeps your bike straight across the back and the tires won't stick out as much (reducing wind drag). Works great, well built, and it's cheap (shockingly).
Lastly, get some bungie cord to keep the bike attached to the rack so it doesn't swing back off the car when wind is pushing against it and then whack the back of your car when you stop (speaking from experience here).
Congrats on the bike, it looks great :)
I used this to establish what thread pitch I needed:
And I ended going with a 12x1.0 Burley. Free one day shipping on Amazon if you have a Prime account.
Niceeeee bike! I put a lizard skin on the chain-stay of my Marlin 5 and it made it much quieter.
Your best best is some sort of wall mount, of which there are endless varieties available on Amazon and so forth. Something like this seems like it's likely to play well with mountain bikes of any variety, and is about the most space saving design I've seen. I assume this particular one is a knockoff of a more legit product, but should get you pointed in the right direction. I've heard installation on this type of mount is tricky, but nothing's perfect.
I got this one
I just put this on my Trek Marlin, looks like it would fit the Comp.

I really like wtb volt saddles. Get the wide one.

Also, on a side bar: Do you wear padded shorts? They are a butt saver. I wear them, and it makes a huge difference.
Just two cheap Amazon lights! They have low/med/high settings and honestly they are great, especially for the price. I have one on my bars and the other on my helmet. I modified a GoPro mount to work with the light and it does the job well.
this littile pump i found on amazon for like $20
thats where you can buy it
Assuming you’re in the US, here is the correct one on Amazon if LBS doesn’t have it.

Yeah. It’s a Rockbros pouch. It works perfectly for a spare Tube, Tool, Keys, and Phone. It has taken a beating too! When riding on a simple trail it’s nice because it holds a Bluetooth speaker and portable charger.

no problem! you might like this too, i heard they make bumps pretty much nonexistent on the behind :)
Qualward Bike Hanger Wall Mount... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XXM1R5B?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It is much cheaper than others, just comes with cheap hardware. I suggest upgrading before installing.
Ive used these, along with many other pedals, and they are pretty decent, but there are better. The main drawback to these is the fact that the bearing cage obstructs the rest of the pedal surface. Even though the screws help a little, it still does not provide great grip on the trail.
I highly recommend the ROCKBROS version of the Stamp 7 pedals. They have great grip on the trail, are lightweight, and dont have such a large bearing cage. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094JGGF7Z/?coliid=I2FS2KAWWIDUON&colid=GUWJT46BS8Z0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1
I use a similar product and have had zero issues Velo Hinge. Some wheel/tire combos will require the longer hook. It’s a very clean and simple design. I use a Steady Rack for my fatbike due to tire size, but they’re way more expensive.
That can be found for $10 on Amazon
Switch that out ASAP before you get hurt. No joke, cheap parts like that, especially ones that take a lot of stress, can shear. And your face is going right on that aluminum stem, which, unless you're wearing a full-face, can break your jaw. You can get something like a Funn or a Hussefelt for around $40 and they're better and waaaaaay safer.
I know you’ve already done your own setup, but I figured I’d toss out a pretty cheap means of mounting that also allows bikes to be tilted, further saving room. The Velo Hinge is easy to install, cheap, and relatively small/clean looking. Some wheel/tire combos will require the long hook to fit. It’s also sold by a company that’s local-ish to me.
I got these carbon fiber ones off of Amazon. I’ve been running them since august on my gravel bike without any issues. I got the 2 pack (RH & LH opening). I have one mounted on my down tube & the other on my seat tube giving me access to both of my bottles on my right. They hold on to my bottles pretty firmly. https://www.amazon.com/Bottle-Lightweight-Mountain-Bicycle-Configurations/dp/B0B369YF3C/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=UN0HD369GN32&keywords=carbon%2Bfiber%2Bside%2Baccess%2Bwater%2Bbottle%2Bcage&qid=1668949138&sprefix=carbon%2Bfiber%2Bside%2Baccess%2Bwater%2Bbottle%2Bcage%2Caps%2C249&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1&th=1
Budget option. Been running this this for 3 years with no complaints.
Its a bottle cage. Don't overthink it
Bondhus is the company that manufactures the tools for Park Tool. Bit cheaper that way. If you want some bling wrenches may I suggest Wiha
It's basically a rebranded light from Amazon. The output is around 1600 lumen for mine, but the one on Amazon claims 5000 lumen, which is complete bullshit, but the damn thing works really well for the price.
okay, shoes I admit I have trail running shoes from decathlon but which have the best grip from all shoes i ever tested so I'm happy with that I think, never ever tested "mountain bike shoes" though. but what about gloves? i have these rather cheap gloves, but am I missing out on something with them?
As another old guy who doesn't bounce very well I went with the Leatt 5.5 Chest protector. It provides chest, back and rib protection. Before I got this I bounce my ribs off the ground twice. I decided two things after the last one, learn how to fall better and when that fails, wear pads made to protect those areas.
I have worn those pads going downhill at Angel Fire and fallen on them once. I topped a berm (being a dumbass) and then doubled down by trying to step off my bike from about 6 ft up. I landed hard, really, really hard on my side on rocks. There is a scrap and a bit of a divit in my rib protector from where I landed on the rocks but my ribs were absolutely fine. I just wish I'd been wearing hip protection, that hip still hurts and its been about 6 weeks.
Pads aren't cheap but they are definitely less expensive than a hospital trip.
As long as you left enough of the old one, you’ll have lateral rigidity. Not enough and it will wobble. Like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Cane-Creek-Seatpost-shim-30-4mm/dp/B0011W2R7U/ref=mp_s_a_1_4
I have looked at that one! How is it? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/266843644769585 this one is supposedly barely used and is £420 on halfords, so feel like I could probably get the price down a little bit maybe
Nope, just a blade and a knob to turn to add pressure. You spin it, tighten the knob, spin, tighten.
These masonry bolts work great. You can get them at home depot too. They come with a specific drill bit that's undersized so they fit really tight with a lot of hold strength. I've used them to mount metal awnings to buildings. I would think anything 3" and over would work for bike hooks. You'd probably only need 2 bolts per hook.
I'm living in Berlin which is the German capital of bike theft and after my last bike got stolen I now have a Bordo X Granite plus 6500 and this alarm system which is insanely loud as soon as you touch the bike slightly. But most important I pay 60€ per year for Insurance and just today I got 2600€ back for my Neuron that got stolen three weeks ago, because I locked it with a cheap lock in the night on the weekend in the worst area.
For the torque wrench, if you can afford it, go with a CDI; they're one of Snap-On's whitelabel brands. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KL2JAI
They come with a calibration certificate, fwiw. I wouldn't go any cheaper on a torque wrench for any modern (i.e. >$2500) bike.
This is the one I gotthough it doesn’t seem to be for sale anymore. Buy nice or buy twice, I totally agree there.
Just something about a nearly $500 stand for home use, seems crazy. But the OP has dropped like $900+ on multiple work stands so I’m not sure buy nice or buy twice fits either lol.
YMMV, I’ve built 8 road bikes and 6 mountain bikes with this thing, and maintain my 6 current bikes on it and it’s still going strong.
Oooh...nice. I've seen folks with that one.
Do you find that it fits large (XL) bikes as well as smaller ones? My Saris rack says it fits fat bikes which is true...just not XL frame.
I got these pedals: FOOKER MTB Pedals Mountain Bike... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D67WPCH?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
and this dropper: PNW Components Rainier Gen 3... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0855DDZ3M?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Idk how they compare to other pedals/droppers, but just having a dropper is incredible. And the pedals are metal so they don't break when I hit rocks, and the pins really grip my shoes.
I highly recommend both. The pedals hurt your shins a lot more than the plastic ones lol
I use this one. It slows you to rotate the bike so it’s not sticking straight out and it holds it by the tire.
Steadyrack Bike Racks - Mountain... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PY2W9CJ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Homie. It's a $10 tool so you don't total your $500 frame. 15 now or 500 and a lot of effort later. Or $20 to tighten it at a shop and save yourself the work.
They used these wear I worked and they fit my big head really well so I've continued using them for MTB on cloudy days. Fog free model is $2-3 more. They also make a tinted model which I use on sunny days. If/when they get scratched I pitch them and grab another pair.
I had a similar issue so I bought an AirShot from Amazon. It's just a canister that you pressurize with a regular pump and release all of the air in to the tire quickly. It worked first try.
You can see about buying a cheap replacement shock on Amazon or someplace. Just get a cheap one with preload that is a similar length. Search for 'Bike Rear Shocks' and take a look. This one popped up right away. You just need to check the length.
Other than that, do not spend much money on this bike. Save up for a better one.
- Most helmet manufacturers have a crash replacement policy, where they'll give you a significant discount on a new helmet after a crash.
- If you need an inexpensive helmet take a look at the Giro Fixture MIPS. They're very comfy, very safe, and don't cost a lot: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075RL9QVQ
Thank you for sharing your perspective with me! I'm really glad to hear that Mike Sinyard is humble and genuinely cares about advancing mountain biking. I admit my perception of Specialized was skewed by the Ritchey/Kelly/Fisher side of the story as laid out in the film Klunkers. You have genuinely made me reconsider my perception of Mike Sinyard and Specialized, and I appreciate you taking the time to do so.
I use the Himal one on Amazon. It works fine. Straps have held up. They get the crap beaten out of them, so just get one that covers enough, protects your paint, and don't bother with name brand stuff for 4x the price. I can't use my backup camera when I use this one, but that doesn't really bother me for how much less expensive it is.

I discovered this tubeless syringe after running tubeless for years. Cleanest sealant install I've ever done. You can also suck out the sealant from a tire to see how much is left or to empty the tire before you do a tire change.

GAMECHANGER - Thanks Reddit
After bonking last week, and at the recommendation of a few fellow redditors, I picked up a mini collapsible H2O filter.
Brought a single bottle and with 2 stops, drank enough water to stay hydrated. Finished this ride with extra water and felt like running it back

Probably going to be in my default kit and worth exploring for those that don’t prefer camelbacks.
Thanks team!

Okay, so I broke my derailleur today while riding. The bike shop said the part isn't in stock anywhere, which didn't surprise me. It's a Shimano Deore M5100 SGS Shadow Plus, according to Orbea. The Orbea Laufey H30 uses a long cage derailleur, right? I'm seeing those in stock on Amazon right now. https://www.amazon.com/Shimano-Deore-Unisexs-RDM5100SGS-Wheels/dp/B089Y32JTF
The tech took off the derailleur and shortened the chain so I can ride it while I wait for the part to come in. I was thinking about getting a surly singleator for a fixie chain tensioner, but if I can get the derailleur off Amazon then hell yeah. If not, has anyone used the surly singleator before or a similar product?
Is breaking derailleurs common?
Do you keep spares around if it is?
Is there a more durable version of what I'm using?
I'm pretty new to this, so it's hard to tell when the shop is pulling my chain.
Anyways, I'll take the bike for another ride after dinner and see what it's like as a single. Riding around in the parking lot the gearing felt fine, just some jerkyness from the chain.
I am 50 ys old and usually ride alone. Never had a problem and I attributed this to the fact that I rode within my limits.
On April 20th I was doing a really easy ride with my 11 yr old sons, they’ve never mountain bikes before and we were raking it easy. I had a freak thing happen to me. I somehow broke my radius half way up my arm while standing on the pedals and leaning on the bars. When this happens your wrist also dislocates. I did not crash. It just snapped. Maybe I had a hairline fracture from a previous injury, IDK.
I was thankful to have their help and to have packed a really good first aid kit: Lightning X Premium Rip-Away... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08S5J7YY8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share.
PS it has been 3.5 months and I am not quite ready to ride again. Another few weeks and I should be good to go.
Moral of the story for me is that things go great when riding solo until they don’t.
I hate saddle bags and back packs. This running belt is perfect for me. Tools and phone and no bounce. I strap a spare tube to my bike. I ride XC mostly. Most times after a ride I forget I have it on since you can cinch it tight on your hips.
I carry these in my pack for sidewall repairs trailside (booting). You can use something like it: https://www.amazon.com/Slime-20040-SKABS-Pre-Glued-Patches/dp/B0011HVW4E/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=slime+patch+kit&qid=1658164893&sprefix=slime+patch%2Caps%2C113&sr=8-7
I carry a plug tool like the one your posted. I've only used it for punctures that happen in the tread, I've never used it on a sidewall since the plug would likely be ripped out on a rock. Even after plugging, I'll go back and add a boot patch on the inside for a more permanent repair.
Either way, if you choose to boot that sidewall hole, carry a tube with you in the event the tire gives up.
Hmm, a patch like this one? https://www.amazon.ca/Tubeless-Portable-Bicycle-Puncture-Mountain/dp/B09C4C91KP
Or the rubber ones?
These New balances. Yes, I know that these are running shoes but I've got a limited budget so I needed something I can wear in the gym and while cycling.
https://www.amazon.com/New-Balance-Nitrel-FuelCore-Running/dp/B072QDVVXD/ref=asc_df_B072QDVVXD/
Santic makes nice, affordable ones as well… I prefer these because of the gripper and thin pad
The shock and one of the brakes not working are serious issues. I'd try to get the bike for like $80 - maybe $100. You can get a cheap DNM air shock for about $100 that will work just fine and a new hydraulic disc brake for $40 from Jenson. Add in a new tire and you're maybe $300 for a full squish (assuming you do the work yourself).
Sure. It's not going to have modern geometry or current wheel sizes, but it can still shred trails. Ignore the off-the-cuff remarks about how it's not worth it. That would be better than anything you're picking up new for $300. I recently got a 2003 Jamis full squish as an extra bike it it's still fun to ride. Now, caveat here, I'm comfortable working on bikes and I do also have a nicer, more modern trail bike. But I still take the Jamis out. I did also throw on a shorter stem and wider bars and I think that improved the playfulness of it.
Should you get it? That depends. Is it your first mountain bike and can you afford, say, a $700 hardtail? Then get a new hardtail.
Are you looking for just another random bike to add to the stable or use as a loaner. Go for it.
Or are you looking to get into the sport and looking at this or something like the more trail-oriented Walmart bikes because they better fit your budget? I'd probably go for this, but I'm not so certain it's hands down better.
S&W Magnum 3G - Safety Glasses. Under $10. Fit me well and lenses are distortion free. I have several pair in both untinted and gray tinted. If they get scratched or broken just toss them and grab another pair.
In that case, looks like the paw on the indexer broke off and you need a replacement.
MEGHNA Bicycle Twist Shifter 7-Speed Grip Shift Mountain Bike 3x7 Shifters Gear Grip Shift(Pair) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0962Y5Q11/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_AYA0MAADSXHN7XMM370R?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This would be suitable. On YouTube you can look up how to adjust and replace the shifter.
I had the same issue with grip, they're just m3x10mm socket head cap screws. I replaced mine with m3x12mm (like these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FR6FHKC?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) which helped a lot
Mips is basically a system that has a additional layer inside the helmet between your head and the harder shell. It helps dissipate forces when crashing. That's the low level overview of it.
The helmet you posted is a motocross helmet. It's this one. You won't want to use it for riding a bike.
For a kid, if you really want a full face youth Fox helmet you'll want to get the Fox Rampage Youth.
Not sure which ones you got, but I've found these RockBros Biking Shorts to be very comfortable
But say I buy a cheaper bike. Like some family gets a bunch of bikes from WalMart or something that just aren't that expensive because they just want to get outside together.
Now a cheapie Wal Mart MTB is going to come in at a weight close to me Levo SL?
Are we now banning people who can't afford sub 25pound bikes? LOL

This bike weighs 8 pounds MORE than my Turbo Levo SL E-Bike. Are we banning them?
