His Letterboxd review, for anyone who cares:
https://letterboxd.com/ralfmakesmovies/film/ant-man-and-the-wasp/
I'm not gonna judge since I haven't seen the movie yet, but at least his reasons for disliking the movie are actual criticisms, and not whatever his TLJ review was.
Only one Quentin Taran-kino and no Interstellar? Fraud.
(For real though, "To see before you die"? Because Signs, Last Samurai and Edge of Tomorrow changed my life.)
To be fair there's this weird proportion of critics who think the Resident Evil films are all hidden masterpieces. Just look at the top few reviews on Letterboxd https://letterboxd.com/film/resident-evil-retribution/
My name is Julian, I'm 21 years old and from Germany. My house number is 1994.
I attempted to study design last year, failed and subscribed to /r/movies instead to become a useless piece of shit.
Now I'm looking forward to study political science next year (so pretentious, I know) and currently work in a kindergarten for disabled children (much SJW, yeah).
...holy shit, I'm /r/movies' antichrist.
I couldn't help but wonder what this would look like in sequence, so I slapped together a letterboxd list for visualization.
It's mostly obvious picks (watch Star Wars if you liked Guardians!) mixed in with some ridiculous pretension towards grander meaning (All the President's Men inspired Winter Soldier, The Godfather inspired Civil War), with just a little bit of ridiculous attempts at throwing the reader into the deep end and watching them flounder (watch slow-moving, challenging tone poem Samsara if you liked Black Panther, you'll totally like it!)
If the article didn't couch itself in terms of being a curriculum for Marvel fans to explore the wider world of cinema and was instead upfront and honest about its intention to merely catalogue films the directors have cited as inspiration, I'd lay off, but this is the route they chose, and so this is the mockery they have earned.
The absolute madman. The king of mindfuckery even included a mind step to warn that they were entering mindfuckville. The critics don't understand that the numbers in this magnificent scene served as foreshadowing for Warcraft reviews, paralleling with the first number of the shill critics' score and the second number of the true fans' scores. Get ready to dock people because we're approaching Nolan levels of Mindfux.
Just a reminder that Shapiro actually wrote this book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LVYP4GR/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i12
"New York Times bestselling author Ben Shapiro’s new novel asks, how close are we to our country’s collapse—and will we be able to stop it once it begins?
America is coming apart. An illegal immigration crisis has broken out along America's Southern border—there are race riots in Detroit—a fiery female rancher-turned-militia leader has vowed revenge on the president for his arrogant policies—and the world's most notorious terrorist is planning a massive attack that could destroy the United States as we know it. Meanwhile the President is too consumed by legacy-seeking to see our country’s deep peril.
Brett Hawthorne is the youngest general in the United States Army—and he’s stuck, alone, behind enemy lines in Afghanistan. He’s the last lost soldier of a failed war, fighting to stay alive and make it back home—but will he be able to stop the collapse of America in time?"
Brett Hawthorne btw is totally not a self-insert power fantasy.
I live in China and asked a couple of people what they thought about this casting. Responses include:
You can look at movies like Iron Man or transformers to see examples of China oriented casting and product placement. Casting choices like Fan Bingbing (X-men: Days of Future Past) and angelababy (Independence Day: Resurgence) or scenes such as those added only to the Chinese version of Iron Man 3, where Stark heads to China for a medical operation. Fan Bingbing has a 10 second cameo in that one, too, and the clumsily added scenes didn't go down too well. Attempts to give position China as a peaceful voice of reason, technology leader and significant contributor in international collaborations could also be considered attempts to butter up Chinese markets and review bodies (versus showing Chinese police dying or acting corruptly or incompetently, which would be censored or make a Chinese release unlikely).
I've no idea what motivations were behind Rose's casting. But in the highly doubtful case that her inclusion is an attempt at pandering to Chinese markets it's an incredibly misguided and unsuccessful one. Those allegations say a lot more about the cultural intelligence of the person making them.
Terrence Malick will inevitably be mentioned.
Yeah you'll only ever see those four mentioned... maybe Fellini. I'll eat a goddamn sock if Antonioni, Renoir, Ozu, Dreyer, or Bresson hits the front page because of an article that recommends literally just one of their movies. Better yet, any of these: https://mubi.com/lists/films-admired-by-tarkovsky
You could maybe do it with Kielsowski, Wong Kar-Wai, or Kiarostami if you emphasized how relatively recent their films are. Or maybe you could get Bunuel and Godard if you emphasized their absurd, political bent. Doubtful though.
If they're talking like that because George was trying to be shakespearean, then shouldn't he at least have made an effort to write the dialogue in iambic pentameter?
Way to be a lazy ass, Lucas. Ian Doescher had to pick up the slack for you.
There is a bizarre growing contingent of Letterboxd users convinced that the Transformers series is "auteurist" and "formalist." I'm not sure what about a robot riding a robotic dinosaur into battle requires being an auteur to convince a studio to let you do. I think they just like mindless blockbusters but can't admit that without making mindless blockbusters more important than they are.
Interstellar was Certified Fresh, though it still has a lower score than GIRLbusters. Remember, once a movie earns that stamp of approval, it only has to stay above 70% to stay Fresh.
There's one of Laura.
iirc Express VPN was forced to give data to the government of Switzerland after a court case, they're no longer truly anonymous afaik.
You can just use Mullvad, which you can get completely confidentially by mailing them money.
Make an adaptation of Ben's non-fiction novel about how BLM is a scheme from an evil crack dealer who calls everyone "honkey."
Not joking, by the way: https://www.amazon.com/True-Allegiance-Ben-Shapiro-ebook/dp/B01LVYP4GR
They also cropped a quote from a negative review to make it sound like an endorsement:

As far as the colonialism it may be related to his time as a soldier in the Workers Party of Marxist Unification’s militia in Spain. I’m not super familiar with that stuff but I know he went there with very little knowledge of the actual political situation in Spain and ended up in the militia more or less by chance because of his association with leftist organizations in the U.K.
He wrote Homage to Catalonia which is considered a classic but is also somewhat widely criticized as bad history.
A while ago I thought of writing a treatment for an Eltingville Club movie but it hits way too close to home post-Gamergate I can't even imagine working on that day to day.
All that stuff is just pseudoscientific bullshit and mainly used as a marketing term to sell “self-help” books

If I take 1 more step, it will be the farthest away form home I've ever been...
so it's important I use NordVPN when travelling abroad. Ever wanted to watch a series like The 2nd Breakfast Club, but it's not available on the Shire's netflix? Just change your location to Gondor or Rohan to access their version of the site, and there you go! NordVPN also keeps you safe from enemies while using public wifi networks, so when you're making use of that free wifi at the Prancing Pony, you can browse safely knowing that goblins, orcs, even the mighty Sauron are unable to detect your presence. Use code "fellowship" to get 15% off your purchase of NordVPN, this offer is valid through until Durin's Day.
Hello, I'm a bot! The movie you linked is called Death Note, here are some Trailers
I'd say seeing all 5 would be best. Paramount just re-released the first 3 on Blu-Ray with most of the bonuses intact, and I believe Lionsgate's Scream 4 Blu-ray is still in print. You don't have to see them first, but it'd let you get the most out of the new one.
^(Plus, because Craven directed all four, the series is SHOCKINGLY consistent - particularly for horror.)
Amazon has the US rights right now, I think. (Through IMDb TV, which they own... and keep away from Prime Video standard... for some fucking reason.) Hopefully, once NBC gives up its stake, Disney can license it back to bring Hulu in line with Star's lineup overseas.
>!I just want Star to replace Hulu entirely, but that ain't happening, so....!<
I feel like this is as good a time as any to bring up the list I compiled on letterboxd of other films MCU directors have helmed.
Risky my behind.

Would that surprise you so much to know that the scripts is actually available and has been for a long time?
https://www.amazon.fr/Star-Wars-Return-Original-Script/dp/1566933048
There are also tons of different websites where you can access the sceenplay and scripts of plenty of movies and tv shows. Some are released for the awards reasons, other by leaks, others by the creator themselves, etc.
But even if they were not available, as someone who studied screenwriting, I can tell you that unless something is important to be seen on screen, you don't specifiy it in the script and stick to what is important. Having Obi-wan moving the moss out of his way is not an important detail for the scene itself, it's just the actor who needs to move in the envinronment in the filming condition they have that day.
Just like the kick of Luke does to jabba's henchman, it is common sense that it's not written in the script that the kick misses the henchman, but in the film it does. None of that was written, it's just a visual mistakes that happen sometime during filming and where the visual failed to properly represent the writing.
He had several different story lines. I love this book even though it was long winded at times: https://www.amazon.com/Making-Star-Wars-Definitive-Original/dp/0345494768
He absolutely did NOT write Episodes 1 -6 before releasing Star Wars. That is wrong. Many many many ideas were there but he barely wrote Star Wars before he finalized the screenplay and ESB wasn't even started.
The movie was indeed just Star Wars (at one time it was filed under "The Star Wars") and there was no other screenplay at the time for a sequel.
