This one is probabbly the best and easiest one to use on android
Why make your life harder with a spreadsheet on google docs?
Since you're saving cash on gym fees, you could also hit up Amazon, Lowe's or Home Depot and buy some padded mats to donate to your work gym and use for your deadlifts to protect the floor and plates.
I doubt people would have an issue if they see you're going out of your way to compromise.
I checked almost every app and looks like Personal Training Coach is the shit. It has all the right programs and you can customize everything.
Damn, nice job!
Found this adaptive TDEE calculator android app if it helps you in your future plans.
Was planning to try the app soon, will try your website as well!
Hi,
I'm the dev of the Zero to Hero app and I got a lot of requests to add the nSuns CAP3 program. That moment has finally come, but now I'm looking for some testers because I have no experience with the program whatshoever so I don't know what feels natural and what doesn't to regular CAP3 users.
So if you
then please reply to this comment or hit me up with a PM and I'll provide instructions on how to download the beta version with the CAP3 program. Thanks!
PS: Sorry if this is interpreted as self promotion and if that's not allowed here.
Edit: If you're a CAP2-UL user and are interested, feel free to let me know.
The level 1 and 2 programs are the ones you are talking about?
https://www.slideshare.net/guest98310f0/arnolds-basic-training-program
Those programs are recommended even for natural lifters?
I found this app to be better, it has the nsuns programs built in (you can edit/create up 3 workouts routines in the free version, to add assistance work though).
In addition it have more routines, so if you want to take a break from Nsuns, you can still track your lifts' progress
For me, recovery meant deep stretching and bodyweight exercises for the posterior chain. I used this app and their lower back stretching routine. Parts of it were really painful starting off, but they helped me. As far as exercises, the main one that helped me were hyperextensions. But I'm no doctor and I would only suggest doing what feels safe for you.
I've been using this one lately: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monstrapps.tmtraining&hl=en
I used to use the "nsuns 5/3/1" app that the same guy built but this one is better. My only complaints are pretty minor:
Try this. Let me know if you have any questions or there are any bugs. It's my first app and I'm the only person that's ever used it.
You might want to play around with the "Days used for calculations" option. I don't know what a good value for it is.
It's my app, I'm not sure why it's doing that but I haven't heard it not saving accessories before. You could try this app which is a more general app but contains nsuns programs. Has more customisation too
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monstrapps.tmtraining
I know it is probably not the solution you are looking for as it is a general purpose fitness tracking app and not one specifically for CAP3, but I would recommend giving FitNotes a try. I have been using it for a year and am continually impressed and recommend it whenever I can.
Feel free to respond here or DM me if you have any specific questions on using it as I would be happy to help.
Strong has also been released for Android recently. They are still working on adding some features tho. Version 1.1 is currently in beta; Google Fit integration was added.
Just looked up one that I have that’s killing my ability to do chin-ups... I guess it’s Golfer’s Elbow?. Going on 2 weeks now.
TM Training (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monstrapps.tmtraining) by the same guy who did the android nsuns 5/3/1. Same exact app format but has the options for Cap3 (and regular 5/3/1) and other programs such as the Reddit PPL program (by metalcapida (?)).
I'm a big fan of the nsuns Android app and a creature of habit so I really enjoy both of these apps. Only used the other app when I did cap3 for a few months before jumping back on nsuns.
Not much to it. It's mostly a waiting game. But I did find that stretching helped a lot. I used the app Stretching Exercises, specifically their lower back stretching routine. I'm no medical expert, but working on mobility and slow movements really helped me when my back was cramped and stiff
Sorry for the newbie question but what is T1 or T2? Do you have an favourite app for this program? I'm using "N Suns 5/3/1" from Play Store buy it has not the explanation of the program.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jalbers.nsunstest
What app?
The app I use recently added nSuns programs. It's Android only, but if you're interested, check it out here.
If you use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monstrapps.nsuns531program
You can just go to program options > manage exercises > front squat > then adjust the difficulty percentage
Which app are you using?
If it is this one
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monstrapps.nsuns531program
Then: 1) the weights for the volume bench day aren't the same as for their respective days (at least on my version.. ) and 2) the app suggests what your TM increase should be, if it doesn't then go to program options > progression suggestions and enter the suggestions you want based on the spreadsheet
Nah there's not any in the sidebar, but there have been a few threads about it. There are some specific nSuns ones or my preferred which also has a couple of others.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mappz.zerotohero&hl=en_GB
It does everything for you, you just have to add the accessories. No need for the spreadsheet really.
For accessories, I follow Swords_not_words's from this comment https://www.reddit.com/r/nSuns/comments/6bakp9/official_accessory_check_thread_10/dk2wny7/
I do the same, but with the Progression app on Android. There's a Strong app for Android now (I believe it's still in development), but Progression is excellent.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=workout.progression.lite&hl=en
If you're on android I highly recommend Zero to Hero. I use it 6 days a week for every workout. It has all the nSuns program variants built in.
I hate to say this but an iOS version won't come soon. The Android app isn't finished yet, and I don't have a Mac to develop the iOS version on.
I do make this promise: if the Android version will pay off (which it's currently starting to, yaayy), the iOS version will come. Seeing how long it took me to develop the Android version (took me more than 8 months to get here), I think it'll be a while out if I can't re-use code.
Sorry!
Edit: this was meant to be a comment on the comment by /u/woodleyAM , but yeah apparently I suck.
>I'm getting elbow or tricep tendinitis
My basic understanding of it to prevent this would be strengthen your bicep and brachialis. To do this for your case, I'd highly suggest taking the deload week to ice your arms and to incorporate a warmup in addition to more bicep work.. In addition, I'd highly suggest to do daily stretches targeting too. Here is some suggestions
The general Warmup suggestion: 3 sets of 20 of light hammer curls every push day and
As per the routine, I'd include more bicep work. (I would do hammer curls as addition) You could up bicep work to 4 sets to help with that
I would also suggest upping your rowing on day 1 at least another set if possible I would superset rowing with your volume bench
There is also another thing you could possibly do... Get off nsuns routine (serious) and focus on a routine with less pressing (and tricep work IMO) for a while. Focus on pulling and biceps for a while
All this said you do need to consult a doctor
Honestly, the best part about the app is it just works and I don't have to think about anything. I go in, start it up, it tells me what to do, and off I go.
HR monitor integration and upload to strava would also be sick. I think you have a great base for an app and there appears to be a lot of attention to detail to make this frictionless.
I would also aim to make a pro version and find revenue in people paying a one-time fee. Anecdotally, most people I know have no problem paying $4 - $15 for a really good app if it is supported and updated semi-frequently.
Mods, please delete this or let me know if it's against the rules.
I actually just made an app specifically for nsuns routines. ANDROID only though. I have a paid (99 cents) and free version. The free version should be live sometime today, but is a stripped down version of the pro, but still functional for the routines.
I have 100 promotional codes to get the paid version for free. For those that use it, please do your part and either take out the code. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1C_GmBqPBK-GIlL4cLLkrJZhJDWnDE_7DH9-MW11Qp0s/edit#gid=0
Link to the nSuns PRO app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumpyware.gohampro_nsunscalculator
Also, for those that decide to use it, please let me know of any bugs or any other feedback to make the app better. I would make a seperate thread/post for this, but once again, I'm not sure if it's within rules.
Kind Regards

Do you know this app, I just startet a 6 day workout routine this week, maybe this is what you are looking for
Late to the party here, but about a month ago I hopped on the Super Squats program as laid out in Strossen's book. I originally switched because I could feel myself burning out on nSuns, (losing motivation, tired constantly, etc.) and I'm glad I did. Lower volume and a lot more rest mean that you can really bust your ass at the gym. 20 rep squats are no joke though; the hype is true.
I wear these on all my leg days and they didn't make a huge difference vs lifting in Chucks, but it's noticeable enough when I don't wear them.
I wear these on all my leg days and they didn't make a huge difference vs lifting in Chucks, but it's noticeable enough when I don't wear them.
I'll try DLing in my socks next time. I actually got these shoes as they were made for crossfit so I thought they'd work well for weight lifting since they're flat soled as well :(
I've used a lot of different straps over the years and these are the best I've ever used: https://www.amazon.com/Leather-Weight-Lifting-Workout-Support/dp/B0771WMP9S/ref=sr_1_4?hvadid=178127059861&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9017108&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=7557701661272188692&hvtargid=kwd-166960102841&keywords=dark+iron+fitness&qid=1553015679&s=gateway&sr=8-4&tag=googhydr-20
Dark Iron Fitness...and they're cheap.
Dude thanks that was a great read. So definitely want one. The one he links to is about 109 dollars but then there is this one on Amazon for half the price https://www.amazon.com/Steel-Sweat-Weight-Lifting-Belt/dp/B01M038980/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=10mm%2Blifting%2Bbelt%2Bmen&qid=1553696160&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2470954011&rps=1&s=gateway&sr=8-4&th=1
Any reason not to buy the one on amazon?
Start training hook grip by using it on your warmup sets and lighter sets if you’re thinking of learning hook grip.
If you’re looking to strengthen your grip, progress from double overhand -> chalk & double overhand -> mixed grip -> hook grip -> straps when you just can’t grip anymore.
If you’re using straps, I recommend figure of 8 straps, they’re very easy to use, and you will never slip or drop the weights accidentally. The barbell will be attached to you until you choose to free yourself.
That’s the one I use, but I haven’t tried any others. Works really well.
I personally use this one for Android. It was just the first that came up when searching 'nsuns' but it's super good. Just open the workout and it tells you exactly how much you have to lift, then you just tick the box when you have done the set! It has a plate calculator too!
Because there is no official nSuns 531 app, you need to be specific. There are current 2 nSuns 531 apps in the Google Play Store. Which one do you mean?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monstrapps.nsuns531program
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jalbers.nsunstest
Yes, that is the one...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monstrapps.nsuns531program&hl=en_US
Ok, at least I'm not the only one who seems to have this issue. Yes, I have just been dealing with it as well. Maybe it will be fixed some day. I did email the developer from the app, fingers crossed.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monstrapps.nsuns531program This one.
I guess I'm still a bit confused how to set it up, how to set up accessories, etc. SL5x5 was more idiot proof.
Yeah I'm only gonna use it on my 1+ sets and take it off after that. Maybe for also the set after. On t2 and light days, no belt.
I got this one. Is it good? medium size 4 inch leather weight lifting belt for men and women with a 1 single 2 prong buckle latch clip back support during crossfit powerlifting weightlifting fitness gym workout training squats https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016RAMIW4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_S0I1AbG11KPQ1
I have this one:
I like it a lot. FWIW, I've never tried any other belts. This one might be a little more narrow than a true powerlifting belt, but that's good for me because I also use it for the olympic lifts.
Get one of these: https://www.amazon.com/JOBY-GorillaPod-Magnetic-point-shoot/dp/B01GEU20CK?th=1
It's phenomenal. Magnets are super strong and I can just stick it on whatever piece of equipment is next to me (In my gym, a smith machine) to get a good angle.
Any light resistance band should work. My gym has a bunch so I just use whatever is available. Sometimes I use a PVC pipe for dislocates instead of the band, but I tend to like the band better.
Basically this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FN7XAYW/ref=psdc_3407931_t1_B00IQM3W9K
A Slingshot cuff really helped me. I'm almost to a point that I don't need to wear it anymore.
I'd suggest looking into getting a Theraband . That helped me when I started getting golfer's elbow. I also purchased elbow sleeves, they don't increase my lifts but they help to keep the elbows warm.
no they are separate
This is the Magnesium i take - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BD0RT0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1
the melatonin is just one that I picked up in my local grocery store
This is just what I would do in your situation, but:
Get floss bands and floss your elbow.https://www.amazon.com/WODFitters-Compression-Flossing-Mobility-Recovery/dp/B00NP5D7AM?th=1&psc=1
Another option is to lay a barbell on your bicep. You do not want to be programming around elbow issues.
Can you do push ups, or push ups on dumbells? Your scapula can move a bit more than on a regular bench, and push ups are good for shoulder issues, IF they are ok for you to do right now.
>Anything with a decent app? I am running StrongLifts and nSuns because these have the best apps. Everything else requires too much manual work.
My app suggestion is to look at Personal Training Coach app if you're on Android. It's like the Stronglifts app, but you can use it for any program. Lots of preloaded or make your own.
I got this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monstrapps.nsuns531program&hl=pl
I want to work out 4, or 5 days a week. Let's say 5. Now how do I get started?
How do I figure out what assistance excercises do I need? etc.
I think the best Android app out right now is Personal Training Coach. The developer added nSuns recently.
It's Android only. On the homepage, it says, "Coming Soon" for iPhone, but it's been like that for a long time.
If you're on Android, check out Max Personal Training Coach on Google Play.
It's like the StrongLifts app, but for any program, including nSuns. It's fantastic.
Hey just to add to what the other commenter said, if you're interested in using a dedicated android app I recently released one which has had a bunch of positive reviews from other people on this sub.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monstrapps.nsuns531program
Zero-to-hero is also great though if you decide to go with that.
Edit: There was also an iphone app released recently by another user if you're using ios
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nsuns-5-3-1/id1265494052?l=de&ls=1&mt=8
There actually is an app - a few I'm pretty sure. The one I tried using can be found on Android here. Not sure if an iOS variant exists.
Personally I'm old school and resort to a bringing duotang with printed spreadsheets where I can make comments in the margins like if I'm feeling great/horrible on that particular day etc.
Pretty happy with this app, though I wish it was more like wendlerized https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.johan.wendler
Following the 6 day deadlift variant and it looks like the front squat and sumo Deadlift are listed on Saturday when the spreadsheet shows differently.
