Best example of arch-libertarianism I can recall reading. “A Libertarian Walks Into a Bear”
In February? Think full cold-weather gear -- boots, jacket, gaiter, wool socks, gloves. And that's just to get from your house to the car.
~~They have a pretty loud voice on the internet, but haven't met one in the 19 years I've been here.~~
~~Plenty of Libertarians in the state - but I've never one who was rude like Free Keene or moved here expressly to turn the state into a Libertarian paradise.~~

You should also look into getting insurance. The sign up period for ACA is closing on December 15th so you should sign up asap.
It actually starts in Intervale, which is just north of NoCo on 16 and runs up and over a ridge into Chatham, New Hampshire
There are quite a few videos on YouTube about it. I have been up and over that while driving/riding in several different vehicles. The most notable was when a friend of mine decided to bring his 18 wheeler up and over it. We almost got stuck (cantilevered the drives) halfway up it. I had to jump out and hold back whatever vehicle might be coming up. When my friend finally found the traction point I realized that he was not capable of stopping to pick me up, so I made a running leap onto the ladder on the back of the trailer. I rode on that ladder the rest of the way up. I also called him from back there and let him know where I was!
It's showing at 9:30pm GMT today (Sunday the 11th), which if I'm not doing it totally wrong, means it'll show around 4:30pm in NH. You can watch it then (and afterwards, I hope) if you have a VPN with a UK location.

Deer flies rest on leaves on the edges of open spaces. They are attracted to motion and (possibly) the color blue.
These strips are basically duct tape with the back side coated with an ultra-thin vaseline, which is what Tanglefoot is.
You can mount some wire screen (a bit smaller holes than chicken wire, but large enough to offer minimal wind resistance) on a handle (I used an old golf club handle), brush on some Tanglefoot and walk the perimeter of your yard waving it like a flag...do this first thing in the morning and again in the evening. You will be amazed at how many you can catch this way! Then take a torch to it and burn off the carcasses. Very therapeutic.
Deer flies suck. I can't go hiking from now until mid August without a net hat because these bastards LOVE me. And my elbows.
edit to add : you will probably find that local stores do not want you to buy this instead of insecticides so don't stock it. So https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077XLV8T3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_CKR3VZZ82WF247GGBGKK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Venus is below and to the right. Mars is above and to the left. There is a star immediately below the Moon, Sigma Aquarii, which may or may not be what you're looking at.
Stellarium is a great little astronomy program, 100% free.
There is a nice swimming hole in Concord. It's on the Merrimack and a beautiful spot. Just take second street all the way to the water.
Then there is hiking, lots of it.
If you are simply trying to get through NoCo without availing yourself of any of the amenities in town, try taking West Side Road It is a beautiful country drive versus the stupid traffic levels downtown.
For the non-technical: the DD app didn't get hacked, someone used the credentials leaked from a different company's data breach against the DD app. People who used the same credentials may have been breached.
Basically, don't re-use passwords and subscribe to https://haveibeenpwned.com/
Also if you did get breached, see /u/AdricGod's comment because it sounds like the forced password reset may not be the only thing you need to do.
I think we need a new season, where we arm folk with paintballs stuffed with Frontline Advantix (or equivalent) and let them go wild in the woods for a few weeks in the late fall (to reduce impact on the bee population).
5 minute walk with a nice view of Boston skyline on the horizon. Out of the dirt parking lot walk up the road and take first left onto the fire access road (blocked to cars by green gate) for the shortest way up. They lock the parking lot after dusk, park on the road if you are concerned.
Edit: Exit 41 off 93.

You're definitely misrepresenting what they say in those pages - they're not making it "easier" for law enforcement. From ancestry.com:
>Ancestry will release basic subscriber information as defined in 18 USC § 2703(c)(2) about Ancestry users to law enforcement only in response to a valid trial, grand jury or administrative subpoena.
>Ancestry will release additional account information or transactional information pertaining to an account (such as search terms, but not including the contents of communications) only in response to a court order issued pursuant to 18 USC § 2703(d).
>Contents of communications and any data relating to the DNA of an Ancestry user will be released only pursuant to a valid search warrant from a government agency with proper jurisdiction.
Ancestry only provides data as minimally required by US law.
From 23andme:
>23andMe chooses to use all practical legal and administrative resources to resist requests from law enforcement, and we do not share customer data with any public databases, or with entities that may increase the risk of law enforcement access. In certain circumstances, however, 23andMe may be required by law to comply with a valid court order, subpoena, or search warrant for genetic or personal information.
These pages are meant to tell law enforcement not to bother wasting their time unless they have a court order, they're not helping cops at all.

Nothing stellar, but certainly not something that negates her eligibility. I don't actually doubt she's suited to the position - I'm only a bit concerned about her personal relationship tying a very large media company with an arm in the government.
Still looking to see if they do a formal press release and make it very clear - you know honesty up front.
That said though I am obsessed with the app Merlin Bird ID and highly recommend it. I uploaded this pic for example and it figured out the type of owl right away, and has a great little “ID a bird with five questions” thing too.

I just disagree with that analysis, because it does not match up with what's in the case. First, the decision did not discuss the burden of proof on either party, but simply found that the judge improperly instructed the jury to ignore self-defense justification. Nowhere in that case does it state that "the State should have been required to disprove self-defense" at any level. Instead, it simply required that the jury be instructed as to what self-defense is, and that Vassar's claims rise to such a level that the jury could have found he acted in self-defense. The burden is unchanged.
Upon further research, though, it appears that you're right, though. State v. Marchand clearly says "the State bears the burden of proving beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant did not act in self-defense or was not adequately provoked" where the defendant has raised such a defense.
My prior comments were based on bar study (amusingly, for the NH bar, which does not include any NH-specific law) that did not take into account local variations. This is well outside the normal behavior of affirmative defenses. An interesting wrinkle, though not one that, I think, helps your argument. So now we've got this duty to retreat, but the State is required to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you had the notice of the threat and opportunity to retreat. That's already looking, to me, like a very small threat, which underscores the lack of need for a SYG law in New Hampshire. We've already got extremely strong self-defense law, because of the burden-shift to the government. To me, SYG is inconsistent with that law.
Nashua. I don't know when it went up, but it came down sometime in the early to mid 80's.. It was yellow with (red?) trim. It was suspended from the ceiling and yes, each of the legs had a rope you could pull to make the legs move. It was in the back room of the Arts & Science center, the building right across the courtyard from the library.
The back room was a sort of playroom for kids. Also in there was a mock 'house' with little rooms, and best of all, a 'firemans pole' mounted close enough to the wall that you could climb up the wall by bracing your feet against the wall. When you got to the top you could ring a bell and slide down again.I could swear tit went all the way up 30+ feet to the ceiling, but i am sure I am mentally exaggerating. They took everything out of this room, and i'm not sure what it became.
Source: I'm old and from Nashua.
Rainbow Falls in Plymouth. It's pretty flat and typically the trail is snow packed. Quick mile walk to the falls. My 12/13 yr old dog has done it a quite a few times. Stay on trail as snow maybe be deep off trail. Watch for slippery spots, you shouldn't need crampons.
Check out AllTrail app, if you don't have smart phone then try https://www.alltrails.com/

We use that for apple maggot flies on our apple trees; this related product on amazon also seems like a great thing for catching biting flies, I'll have to give it a try up at the cabin.
Even Massachusetts doesn't mandate that landlords provide renters of rooms with access to a stove or hot plate.
If the landlord is concerned about the fire risk of a hot plate, maybe would be okay with an inductive cooker?
permethrin on the shoes every month is a good precaution. On pant legs too if you're around tall grass
Venus. You can usually tell because it's much more brighter and bluer than the other planets and most stars.

My wife loves gardening and brings in a lot of plants for the winter. We always have some (nothing like OP, just see one flying in front of the computer screen here and then).
Those yellow sticky pads work really well and I put one in every pot. I also will spray down the plants with insecticide before bringing them into the house. I've also used those small bug zappers and fan operated glue traps and those work as well. I don't think there is universal fix but if you stay on top of it, it's just one or two here and there.

I went with this 24k BTU Senville Aura for my 1,100 square foot living space (I also ordered a second 18k unit cause they're on sale and I am unsure if a single 24k unit is big enough, if it is big enough I will return the second one). I went with the Aura specifically because it works down to -22F. The cheaper option is the Leto which I also bought one of for heating my garage/shop space, but that only works down to 5F. I currently heat with electric baseboard heaters so these should cut my heating (and cooling) costs by at least 50% and pay for themselves in less than 2 years.
20 years ago I built a large addition on the house and wired up with Cat5e while it was bare framing
Even if your house is 100 feet long, there's really no need for cable anymore given the quality of new gig routers and access points using 802.11ax
I recently upgraded to gig fiber, and bought a pair of TP-Link AX5400 units. Using one as the gateway/router and one located in my shop as access point, the range, power, and throughput on these is more than adequate even for serious torrenting or backup to cloud
A pair of those will cost way less than hiring someone to pull cable and install a patch panel
Even if you're running a business with 20 hosts, you could use wifi with good routers, and at least a 500mb ISP connection
> The best you can do is try to drag science down to your level by trying to equate it with religion, when it is in fact the polar opposite.
What I said was- The founders of modern science were Christian theologians. They created the scientific method to learn about the physical world. At the same time they believed in other ways of knowing. I don't have time to write a book here, so you could read this and then we could talk about it. ---> https://www.amazon.com/Fall-Man-Foundations-Science/dp/0521117291
I don't think I can change your mind on that. I just don't see how an introduction to the concept of systemic racism at minimum would do any harm. Besides, plenty of current K-12 material was once college level material - for example, Trigonometry: >After 1900, trigonometry instruction became a topic of secondary education rather than higher education.
or for a blatant example: History.
More information: As of 9:00 PM EST, Lizzi is still missing. The goal is to spread awareness around the NH area to try and find her and return her safe! She's a friend, hopefully reddit can keep an eye peeled for her.

If you are from this area please keep an eye out for her and her car. Thanks everyone.
I’d say it’s decently steep. It’s rated “hard” on AllTrails. Having hiked it once myself, it was pretty difficult to say the least. However, I was practically speed walking-running up the mountain lmao.

https://www.amazon.com/Lectron-Tesla-Charger-J1772-Adapter/dp/B07V7V2QT8
The adapter isn't the problem. The issue is that Tesla has to open its network to non-teslas. They've already done that in some countries and apparently have already announced plans to do that in the US by the end of the year.
In addition to repellent, which is good for mosquitos and ticks but not deer flys, these deer fly patches work quite well https://www.amazon.com/12-Deerfly-Patches-TredNot-Strips/dp/B0038RO1YI
Those jerks typically swarm your head and will go in for a bite where they see exposed skin. The patch is somewhat skin colored and they stick to it immediately with no chance of coming back off. The only downside is the adhesive on the hat side sometimes leaves a residue so don’t use a nice hat with them, but one patch will last 3-4 days depending on how bad they get.
Thank you - and it tastes as good as it looks!
I planted in June or July of 2020. Not ideal timing, but it all worked out in the end! 3 years later I got my grapes.
I purchased the vine from a seller on Amazon. I specifically wanted a seeded Concord grape, and I was unable to locate one in any local nurseries, they were all seedless, hence why A) Amazon... and B) mid-summer planting.
I also did the 4-arm kniffin system - as seen in my previous post - which I learned from u/askUNHextension resources.
>I do not believe that Wealthy people are wealthy because they have better genetics.
Just because you don't believe it doesn't make it untrue. The same way that someone saying "I don't believe in climate change" makes climate change untrue.
If you are in good faith and want to learn more about how intelligence, class, etc are influenced by genetics I would recommend Human Diversity as a good first book on the subject. If, however, you are not arguing in good faith then this conversation is meaningless and I will leave it here and wish you a good day.
The latter. We just spent 3 years printing money out the ass.
You can churn the butter yourself from local dairy cream using this...
I have this myself and it is not difficult at all, nor do you break your arm churning it. It is well made too. It comes with a small recipe booklet attached at handle
Yes, I bought the vine on Amazon in 2020, and below is the link I found in my order history. I got the 2 gallon potted Concord Grape. At the time it was $29.99 with a $23.50 shipping charge. It looks like they have gone up in price quite a lot since then!
Hiking solo (or getting separated from a group) is one of the risk factors for hypothermic death identified in the excellent book Death in the White Mountains by Julie Boardman, which exhaustively examines nearly every death in the Whites.
My understanding is that when someone becomes hypothermic, they become less able to take care themselves by remediating the dire physical state that they are in, either by finding cover/safety, putting on clothing, drinking hot liquid, etc. Like the poor young man who died on Bondcliff on Christmas 2016, who had dry layers in his bag but couldn't get them on.
This stuff will work. They make various sizes and prices vary. I use it whenever I'm moving.

You install it in your panel and you get monitoring of total and 8 ($110) or 16 ($150) individual circuits. I've had one for a few years now and it works great.
I was hemming and hawing over one of those, but opted to pick up a few of these Sonoff S31 instead.

Not COVID related. Take a little time and take this hike. It overlooks the ‘One Golden Pond’ part of the lake and is a super easy hike.

I've done the hike both ways, after hiking the peaks some will be tired to have to get down and the slippery rocks don't help much.
Hopefully this link works: easy trails near Laconia.
If you're looking for a short one (less than 2 miles) without much elevation increase but a good view: Pine Mountain in Alton. But it looks like there are some closer to you in Laconia that I haven't personally tried.
Which part of the lakes region? I hike some in Alton/Gilmanton that fit your criteria, but there are trails all over really.
Check out alltrails.com too - they list a ton, you can find them just for your town/area, and they have an app too.
Definitely check it out ahead of time, but the Les Clark Nature Trail has some pretty spots and partially goes along the river.

>It seemed to me like his argument was that drugs should be banned because what if somebody had a gun and was on drugs?
That's somewhat understandable, since there are a few potential meanings that fit that particular sentence. What he said was:
>However, I do not want someone drinking or doing drugs to be in possession of a gun.
There are two ways to take that:
He meant the second. This can be seen with his followup sentence:
>Granted, the zombie hallucination thing was an extreme example, but it can and does happen.
He wants to avoid people possessing weapons while they're currently hallucinating due to drugs. He also confirms that in what you quote in an earlier comment:
>I would rather have a sober individual in possession of a gun
All you need to be sober is to not currently be drunk or high.
>I don't think OP has ever said anything like "I like to get really fucked up on drugs and play with guns."
The OP has encouraged the idea that people are free to disregard laws that they disagree with, since that's how he says he lives his life. That means that, according to his principles, he has no trouble with people who are high while possessing a weapon.
This is not exactly a surprising conclusion, after all. Lew Rockwell, a prominent ancap, wrote a little piece called "Legalize Drunk Driving". There are several other similar articles produced by likeminded libertarians.
Does he also mime singing into an umbrella / some other object, or his hand? My boss told me about him and sure enough, I saw him the next day. Unfortunately it’s the only realistic option. I was living in a house with a wood stove right in the center of the living room when my son was born, and we put a sturdy metal gate around it like the one in the link below. They are expensive and you may need two sets to connect together to go all around the stove, but they lock tight and don’t collapse or fall over. Yes, you have to walk around and unlock it to access the wood stove, but that’s what makes it safe.

Snow sleigh. They are wider and taller than a snow shovel, and you slide them across the ground instead of lifting. I do not know why they are not more widely known and used. Between my snow sleigh and a light electric snowblower, I usually prefer the sleigh.
You have to order them off-season, though; the price is inflated now. I got mine for around $70.
I believe anybody can put up a personal weather station, and provide data to wunderground, which I believe is where you're getting that from. I have a feeling they can claim they're in whatever town they like. And somebody near Keene thought Sexytown would be funny. Wunderground allows you to pick from any weather station you like (click "refine" instead of "view" after searching for the town).
This appears the be the one you're looking at: https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KNHKEENE30
It's all been isolated thunderstorms - small, fast moving systems. Watching the radar when I suspect rain has been enlightening as to how the predictions are inaccurate from one area to another.
It's frustrating that google will display a rainstorm on days when the 'chance of rain' is around 50%.
I'm farther south than you are, but I literally just picked up an antenna from Walmart last night. This map should be pretty accurate, since I used that site for my area and got all but 1 channel. This is the antenna I got. You'll want at least that, if not stronger. You're definitely going to want one that is amplified and reaches 55+ miles.

Mt. Roberts. The trailhead is basically at Castle in the Clouds.
Loads of views like this going up, then a view to the north at the whites from the summit. It was also a nice mix of easy and intermediate sections.
There's also another hike lower on the mountain with lots of waterfalls, but I didn't have time for it after I finished this one.
I second u/Ymitri, Pierce is not a bad climb, and the views are killer. Not a lot of trees up there to block the sights, and Mt. Washington is always a plus.
However, depending on the level of physical fitness, a 4k footer might be too tough. There are plenty of easier hikes with great views though! Check out AllTrails.com or other sites for some recommendations.
Easy hikes with great views that I've done are Mt. Major, Mt. Willard (looks out over the highway, absolutely splendid in the winter), and Lonesome Lake (not a mountaintop, but still very pretty).

> Too bad your nonsense personal interpretation doesn't stand up in court. ... state would literally need the federal government's approval, right?
Of course the federalist that thinks a person's "rights" are only what his rulers with a fancy hat and title "benevolently" bestow upon them with their laws.
Laws =/= Rights.
You're obviously referring to Texas v. White as your basis of it being "illegal" However, it suggests another way a state might secede: “through revolution." (obviously) It could happen, if civil unrest becomes extreme, and the state and the nation simply agree to part ways to minimize the damage. I never said it would be a peaceful and amicable secession...revolution is bloody and the tree of liberty needs to be renewed by the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Ah, authoritarian fascism...so much...boot licking(?) What exactly do fascists get out of pledging fealty to corrupt government officials that want to constantly tell you what you can and can't do and steal your property? Do you have a favorite flavor of shoe polish?
Well, this has been fun but I have better things to do with my time than to trade insults with a intellectual sloth.
I just saw a post by someone on Nextdoor that took their mom to Sears yesterday. They went inside and asked a national guard person just inside the door for curbside. They were directed to drive around to a side door where someone came out to administer the shot.

I’m ok on my end, what I struggle with is everyone around me not knowing how dangerous or bad Lyme disease is.
I try not to be that guy paranoid or screaming about it all the time, but it’s tough. It doesn’t have to be tall grass, it doesn’t have to be obvious rash- heck you can find ticks at the beach.
When I was a kid it was pull them out a certain way, make sure you get the head and watch for the bulls eye rash. If you get the rash, take pills for 30 days call it a day. After experiencing it and having to learn about it, it is very much worse then that.
Lyme disease can end your world, wish we at least did public educating about it.
There’s also east things to do. Spray your clothes and treat your lawn- it’s getting more common but not common common.
I like this yard spray - I’ve seen it work.

They typically have a remineralization stage after the RO filter. I have this iSpring filter and I really like it. I'm picky about my water, and I really like the taste of the water this produces.
Nice! I've seen people attach blue solo cups to their hats as well. They cover the cup in Tanglefoot.
I'm not going that far, but I do tie tanglefoot covered blue solo cups to trees in the summer. Within a week they are so covered in flies and mosquitos that I have to change them out. It seems to help around the yard.
I spend lots of time outside and should try your patches next year. :)
Thank you, and I just want to say that I appreciate your username, so much. I do field work for my job Spring - Fall. The only thing that has helped are these. Of course you have to use a hat that you don't mind ruining and it's gross because they don't die right away, but I freaking hate those things.
Good. Just keep and eye on the weather as the saying goes, "if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it will change"
I like the NOAA unofficial, NOAA unofficial
This is for this Sunday night thru Tuesday.
Does he have a computer? Send him to Windy it's got al sorts of layers on the weather map and I've found it to be the most accurate online. It's guaranteed to draw him in just as it's so amazing.
https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-hampshire/mount-lafayette-and-franconia-ridge-trail-loop https://www.newenglandtrailconditions.com/nh/viewreport.php?entryid=41362 all have trail condition reports on it. Sounds like you will want microspikes and hiking poles. I did Moosilauke on Sunday and you would have a very hard time reaching the summit without these pieces of gear as the snow at the top is very packed in and icy this time of year.
Also Quick search on Indeed for System Admins shows quite a few listed. Would suggest getting a PO Box set up for NH to put on your Resume to appear local while searching for work in the State especially if you are not looking for relocation assistance.
I actually highly recommend Schwab. There are no physical branches, but you get free ATM withdrawals anywhere in the world. And they rebate all ATM fees. Plus there are no international debit fees and they have mobile check cashing by taking a photo. https://www.schwab.com/public/schwab/banking_lending/checking_account
How are you on snowshoes?
There are tons of good places to hike around Bedford, but most don't get a lot of care or use in the winter, can be treacherous, especially the hills.
IMHO, the easiest mountain hike in S.NH is Rose Mountain in Lyndeborough.
I'm currently planning to tackle 5 in one day next month. The two wildcats and the three carters can easily be done all together. 13 miles or so... See my planned route here
There are several overlook spots on the Kancamagus Highway, right around the mid point though I think they are a bit closer to the Conway side, that have really beautiful views and is great for star gazing. Foss Mountain in Eaton also is a nice, short hike, with a perfectly unobstructed view of the night sky - also a great place for star gazing. Honestly anywhere that you can find an unobstructed view of the sky is pretty great star-gazing. I live close to the center of town (Conway), and while I have some tree obstruction, I can get pretty spectacular views of the night sky just from my yard - there's not a lot of light pollution even in the areas with significantly more businesses. In the Conway area there are ordinances against certain kinds of outdoor lighting for businesses to avoid just that, so any of the overlooks on the side of 16 (if you don't want to have to go way out of your way) are pretty decent, as well, especially the one in Intervale.
Sorry, I meant Beaver Pond. It's the 'pond' on the left in that link.
Your're right, but the crazy part is that part of 93 is the Turnpike. Look at this map view, it's green during that stretch...and labeled the turnpike. https://www.bing.com/maps?osid=1d874163-9ede-4ef4-8db9-4e111f2b924c&cp=43.104372~-71.388512&lvl=12&v=2&sV=2&form=S00027
It's wild.
I hope it's not a problem for me to promote an event here like this; I didn't see any caveats about it in the description. I'm fairly new to the area, so if you have any recommendations for a better place to post this I'd appreciate it!
In any case, I'm happy to answer any questions here. To give an idea what we're working toward here, here's how many places are on OpenStreetMap in Portsmouth:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/43.07500/-70.75719
Not too bad as of this writing, but I think we can do better. Here's what downtown Berkeley California looks like, by comparison:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=18/37.87132/-122.26854
And if you're not around Portsmouth but you like the idea, let me know as well; perhaps I could be convinced to put something similar together in another town. I recently saw Wolfeboro for the first time and really loved the place, but found that they have even less going on on the OSM front.
It kind of rides the line between Maine and New Hampshire, but try Evan's Notch. The map link I give takes you in from Fryeburg. The whole road up through 113 runs through beautiful woods and farmland until you jump into the wilderness for the run over the notch. There are also several places to camp/hike on either side of the notch.
