My usual website is now saying 106. I've lived in a number of places where 100 degree summer days were normal, but that was one of the main reasons I didn't stay in any of them, preferring the cool and the clouds. Needless to say, I'm not liking this.
Anyone who has domestic animals that can't be brought into their house might want to think about what they'll need to avoid baking. Most can't sweat very effectively, if at all, and not all pens include shady areas.
I've been liking these. Lights for standard outdoor fixtures, which only turn on when it's dark and they detect motion. They're both likely to unnerve any uninvited visitors, and convenient for general use. If you're going out in the dark to put out the garbage or whatever, they light your way as you walk.

Is your concern the carbon footprint/environmental impact, or do you just not like the idea of cutting down a living tree? If your concern is the environmental impact, a real, locally-sourced tree has a much lower carbon footprint than a fake tree (even if made with recycled materials). I can’t recall the exact numbers off the top of my head, but organizations like The Carbon Trust researched this and found that a plastic tree would have to be used for about 10 years to even out its carbon cost. Unfortunately, not many people do that.
For anyone who’s curious and wants to do the comparison themselves, there are handy calculators (like this one: https://www.omnicalculator.com/ecology/zero-waste-christmas-tree) that will let you compare real vs plastic trees. It’s fun to play around with the inputs and see how it changes things.

Volunteer somewhere, preferably for a cause that you care about. It'll also help you get to know people outside of your grad. program.
Check out Evergreen State College and do the short hike to the beach. Not sure if the Evergreen Bike Shop is open during the summer but it might be worth a shot.
Check out the Olympia Farmer's Market.
Finally, grab a taco from the taco truck in Downtown Olympia and wash it down with some water from the Artesian Well.

That was the weather when I posted, as recorded by a nearby station monitored by wunderground.com. Here's one pretty close to mid-town, but there are a lot of others around to pick from.

Wouldn’t look like this cat, would it?
Edit: NextDoor link wants you to sign in. Sorry. NextDoor is the devil, but a family near Grass Lake reported a long haired black cat going missing yesterday, I think. Cat is old and needs meds, so the sooner he’s found, the better.
Well alright, I know you don't like this sub and you're not coming back but if you do to read this comment: you may appreciate scuttlebutt.nz which is a decentralized social media platform (disclaimer: does require a bit of savviness with computers to use) - https://www.scuttlebutt.nz/
Ciao!
I get seizures when I get too hot (looking at you, my body's inability to thermal regulate...) and have found these cold packs to be just astonishing. They stay super cold a good chunk of time, well worth the $25 if you have access to a freezer. I just bought my second, for a better rotation.
They really are SUPER cold to start with, though. Make sure you've got a towel/tshirt/pillowcase to go around it!
I'm selling a full bed frame and foam mattress. I know not a good size for an adult couple, but if you have a kid, or a guest room. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/193580738698950/
There actually aren't a lot of furniture stores (used or new) in town. You'd probably have better luck on facebook marketplace, nextdoor, or offer up. We do have a bunch of antique stores where you might be lucky. I'd try the Lighthouse Antique Mall. Peacock Vintage downtown actually has a lot of cool stuff, mostly mid-century modern style.
>The greatest ideas, voice and actions rise to the top. Regardless of race.
This is pretty naive and shows a lack of critical thinking about the subject. History is inextricable from our own bias and prejudice. It's not just some rote transcript. This is a fantastic read that really shows you how much it is true.
I wasn't advising you buying a desktop, obviously, but if you could have access to one or even another PC> If you're lucky you only may have fried the motherboard and not harddrive.
If you or someone who know feels comfortable pulling out the harddrive it's about an $11 dollar fix. https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-External-Enclosure-Adapter-Housing/dp/B06XWRRMYX/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=external+hard+drive+enclosure&qid=1670532734&sr=8-4

Most of the mid/higher end ones have a silent/mute button.
I've always done right by the cyberpower ones.
Here's an example of a cyber power with a mute;
Lewis Co. Used to be a Democratic stronghold in the days of Granges and Co-ops. I recall lots of old farmers being staunch Democrats.

If you have all weather tires in good condition, you will probably be fine for most of the winter (unless you have to drive up and down large hills).
A more economical solution for the few days when all weather tires aren't enough is to use tire socks like these (I can't vouch for a specific brand or model, that link is just for example)
I always like the Kaplan ones. https://www.amazon.com/SAT-Prep-Plus-2022-Strategies/dp/1506277381
The books that come with free online test prep are nice too.
I got this stuff when it was so hot last year for our western facing windows. Bubble wrap has insulating properties. Would work better than foil at minimum. I used some velcro command strips to stick them to my windows (I have huge western facing windows).

Unfortunately open windows are not safe. Your idea to ask your landlord for some bars isn't a bad idea. They might say no, but at least you would know if they'd be willing.

You cannot morally justify property, without the Lockean Proviso. The Lockean Proviso (Two Treatises on Government, Chapter 2, Section 27 establishes a sense of fair play to property. You should not coerce others into owning property. You have an ethical responsibility to leave land "in common for others."
Government has this same duty. (The name of the treatise containing this Lockean proviso is "On Government".)
There is enough public land in the city to accommodate biodegradable squats that can be kept clean, leaving as little trace on the environment as the Native Americans used to.
Why should I have to move? I have the moral high ground. You are using "might makes right", since you are ignoring Locke's proviso to property rights. You cannot claim to be moral and yet criminalize sleeping outside.
I thought the same thing too. I was all ready to sign the fuck up. Not that it matters anyways, we have the fastest internet in the country! LOL
Yeah, this baby right here worked to keep my neighbors’ cat from pooping in my garden. I will say, though, that it nailed me a couple of times, and I couldn’t outrun it.
I got this one for my wife when we moved here 6 years ago and she's yet to leave me and run back to Florida. It still works great:

My wife got these for the house. I'm always cynical so I can't tell if they work or not.
Fair housing laws get much more lax in a shared housing or small landlord situation.
https://www.craigslist.org/about/FHA
"Although the prohibition on discriminatory advertising applies to roommate and shared housing situations, federal Fair Housing laws do not cover the basis of decisions made by landowners who own less than four units, and live in one of the units. This means that in a situation in which a landlord owns less than four rental units, and lives in one of the units, it is legal for the owner to discriminate in the selection process based on the aforementioned categories, but it is illegal for that owner to advertise or otherwise make a statement expressing that discriminatory preference."
So at least on a Federal basis, if you want to rent out part of your house, it's legal to discriminate however you would like so long as you don't advertise that discrimination.
Note: I'm not talking about if it's just, kind, etc.
I was a high school student in Olympia in the 1990s, and the riot grrrl movement was definitely an important thing - although I don't remember anybody using that term. I don't think Olympia was really were it started here, but Olympia was definitely a core location, Bikini Kill and Sleater Kinney being two of the most influential. A good book on the subject is https://www.amazon.com/Girls-Front-Story-Grrrl-Revolution-ebook/dp/B003V1WVWU, I would also check out Sassy magazine or zines online if possible, as those were kind of our bibles.
I'm also an arachnaphobe. Those bug grabbers helped me so much. These are the ones. Now I pick them up, and deposit them away from the house. The grabbers are gentle enough that they usually don't hurt the spider's legs.
My ASD child is also a runner, and this harness/leash has been a/her life saver: https://smile.amazon.com/Accmor-Toddler-Harness-Leashes-Children/dp/B07WSFZR6Z/ref=dp_prsubs_1?pd_rd_i=B07WSFZR6Z&psc=1
[Anywhere near the inlets, you get slightly warmer temps in the winter, and slightly cooler temps in the summer. I love the way the estuaries make for a nice climate moderator.
Places on the east side of the Black Hills or up against the southern Olympics get more snow and rain. They can also be the victims of weird wind effects from the Hwy 12 gap...I've even seen cyclones spawn there, on the weather radar.
Having a good southern exposure gives you many more gardening opportunities, just as being on the north-facing side of a hill means perpetual winter shade. I have the good southern exposure, but I'm also subject to wind from the south, which killed my kiwi vines and kept the apricot tree I planted from bearing any fruit (the wind destroyed the flowers.
I recommend reading Cliff Mass's Weather of the Pacific Northwest.
I can't find the exact one, I bought mine over a year ago. These look the most similar though. Where the holes are in these, mine have little punch-outs that you place inside the circular filter. The fit of the punch out inside the filter is more snug than the mask is around my face.
Amazon (please forgive me). Looks like it was 30 bucks, but still pretty cheap.
Cloth diapers are really not that bad. The vast majority are just wet diapers, which require no extra care before being washed. Poop diapers get a quick hose to remove the solids, then thrown in with the wet ones. A quick rinse cycle, wash cycle, and dry and you're good to go. There is a bit of a learning curve, depending on what style you get. And the initial cost is more, though buying used ones (it sounds gross, but bleach eases all worries) can lower the cost. But it's less waste, better for baby, and saves money. My wife was pretty hesitant (I wouldn't call her lazy, but that's the general idea in this case), but she got on board quick. We do use disposables at night and when going out to make life easier, it's not an either or decision.
I looked real quick at Bartels down there and the cheapest I found was $140, so yeah it's surprisingly spendy to rent a tux when suits online are so cheap these days.
I just checked my closet and I don't have anything in 38. Or really anything I think would work for a teen at a dance.
If no one else has anything, my suggestion is to buy something like this suit using the coupon on amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/AUSTIN-MILL-Button-Pieces-Black/dp/B07F1RK3TX/
It'd be $49.99 after the $40 off coupon.
Only drawback is that you might need to have it adjusted by a tailor, but that will be the case for any suit you get him without fitting first.

This one comes highly recommended, I’ve owned it for a few months and it has performed very well. Make sure to get a high capacity SD card too. Worth the piece of mind.
I tried with one of these a few months back and couldn't get anything with it. I'm in SE Olympia. I thought it was just me/my TV/my area, but it's sort of refreshing that nobody else seems to be having any luck.
> I am new this year to owning property and honestly it's a little terrifying that something can happen that would put a mortgage underwater.
Some economists who aren't afraid to speak the truth predict another crash a la 2008.
Thom Hartmann wrote a book about it. Admittedly, he probably should've been less specific about the actual date of this event.
>It's much easier and safer to rent.
So, why did you buy a house? Anyways, lots of economists and real estate peeps are saying that housing is gonna boom. So, you may have got in under the wire and made the best investment of your life.
Best of luck man, I've had so many bikes stolen. Everyone sucks, I'm crazy paranoid and with my latest bike which I put a lot of time and money in got this lock which seems crazy sturdy http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UY34W8O?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
