I’ve faced this a few times & I have one theory..
429 is an http code that flags when there are too many requests being made in a period of time.
It’s possible that MC realms has an issue with handling their traffic or they aren’t handling their response codes properly.
But what I suspect is actually happening is that, for whatever reason, their system is flagging your IP as having suspicious behavior and throttling your attempts to connect. It’s just a theory but the fact that this issue goes away after some time (presumably after your removed from their black list or whatever) and the fact that you can circumvent it by connecting through a VPN (which changes your IP) seems to support the theory.
Whether it’s an intentional behavior or a bug on their side is less clear to me. That said, try going through a VPN (like ExpressVPN or NordVPN) and see if that fixes it for now.
If you mean (Minecraft for windows 10, from the microsoft store) you do need to buy it as well. Buying minecraft on one platform does not equal having minecraft on other platforms (windows 10, mobile, other consoles). You can upload worlds using this version of minecraft to use the world on switch
Minecraft: Java Edition is sold from minecraft.net and cannot be used here. As they are not the same version of minecraft
The "Java Edition" version for the PC cannot crossplay with any of the (internally called) "Bedrock Editions", but only with other Java Editions.
A Win10 PC can play both editions. The one you can buy/get on the minecraft.net page is the Java Edition, the one on the Microsoft store is the Bedrock Edition (the one that he can use to join his Realm on the Xbox).
Rule of thumb: If it just says "Minecraft" with no subtitle (like "Java Edition" etc.) it is part of the Bedrock Edition.(I know, it's weird, but it is how it is.)
I started getting this after being banned from my brothers realm for spamming. Didn't know that was a thing...
I've tried many of these fixes including reinstalling minecraft from minecraft.net and disabling automatic updates from Java. Nothing worked for me. What actually happens is that the error goes away after some time, and im just sitting there restarting minecraft.
I just had this same problem, but I fixed it. For anyone still having this issue here's what I did:
Go to C:\Program Files (x86) and delete the folder "Minecraft". Don't worry about your saves, they are stored in a different place. Then, open Minecraft Installer, or re-download it from minecraft.net Then, select repair, and it will reinstall all the goodies and update Java runtime. Then, you'll be able to open the Minecraft Launcher as usual and it should work just fine. If not, let me know! Good luck everyone!
The "Java Edition" and the "Bedrock Edition" aren't compatible. For a PC both editions exist.
The Java Edition is the one that has existed for ages now (and still gets updates). You can get it from the minecraft.net page.
The Bedrock Edition is the one you can get in the Microsoft store.
The icon for the Java Edition one is a 3D grass block, for the Bedrock Edition it is a 2D grass with a thick black outline
same has happened to me, i cant see my realm on minecraft.net and i get a blank screen then crash when i go on to the realms page on the actual game. Has it been fixed for you guys yet?
So i have been having this issue too. But mines worse... I went onto minecraft.net and the website says i don't own a realm. The subscription had 6 days left and i have not cancelled anything. I played some 1.8.8 hypixel then coming back onto 1.16 apparently i didn't have a realm anymore or at all. This is worrying me a lot as i spend a lot of time on my realm and all of it seems to have disappeared.
Could be something with your internet, but I highly doubt it. I've noticed this happening with other players as well. I'm not sure. I don't know what Mojang is doing right now, I can't even renew my pre-existing realm, the site just stays blank. I think they were in the middle of transferring some things over from mojang.com to minecraft.net so they may have some issues. I have had a java realm for almost 5 years now and I haven't really had many problems with it. I think they might be a bit overloaded right now, so give them some time.
Java Realms user here, having the same issue with renewing. Trying to use the minecraft.net website to renew doesn't do anything. They must be having some problems. PLEASE tweet or open a support ticket to let them know this is urgent.
This error may occur at any time because the problem is not coming from you, it's from the Mojang authentification server that you use to connect to a server/realm and authenticate you to Minecraft.net for verification purpose (basically looking if you bought the game), sometimes, your session expire from the authentification server so you cant connect to anything in game, the only way to bypass/fix this is to restart the game as it will make a new session.
If you want to host your own server, here's the link. Bedrock server client is way lighter to run resources wise than it's java counterpart

Those realms are the paid for realms right? I get the free 30 day trial and then after that I have to pay $x/month to keep the realm?
I wanted to host it from an old machine I have here so I don't have to pay for it. You could do it for the Java version (https://minecraft.net/en-us/download/server). But that only works for Java version.
Realms does not use fixed servers. It uses Amazon's AWS, which is a flexible cloud computing platform that can spin up, tear down, expand and contract virtual servers as demand changes.
There are no fixed numbers for processor power, memory, disk storage, or bandwidth although they may be capped to prevent costs running out of control. The exact configuration is likely to be commercially sensitive and is anyway subject to change over time as conditions change.

Having the same issue as well with a non-realms server. I can still connect since my server-savy friend increased the connection throttle time, but it takes a good 30 seconds to a minute to fully load in the world, plus even then I still have rubberbanding issues teleporting and going to and from other dimensions. I tried using NordVPN and it didn't work at all. Still currently looking for other solutions if anyone has any ideas...
I had the same error and i tried to use a VPN.
I use ProtonVPN, i only click in connect to a fast net and thats all. Open ur Minecraft launcher when the vpn starts run. This worked to me, so good luck!
I personally used a free VPN called ProtonVPN and that’s what worked great for me. Although make sure to look for one that supports the region you live in since the free version only supports the USA, Japan, and the Netherlands.
The only thing that works for me is a VPN (NordVPN if that matters). I literally picked the country I live in and now it never kicks me.
Obviously not a solution for everybody, but if you have one it worked for me.
Maybe one day this thing gets fixed soon tho
Upon further review, we've decided this project would not be a good fit for Realms. Thanks for your submission, and good luck in your future endeavours. There is an inordinate amount of spelling errors, grammatical inconsistencies, and some unstable mechanics.

Thank you for your submission. We are looking for content which matches the quality of content submitted on Realms. You can reference this blog post to see a bit more of what we're offering. It's a no for now, but keep practising!
You can't "ping the servers" because Realms are not actual servers. Realms runs on Amazon's EC2 service.
You can view the current and historical status of AWS here:
It's relatively easy to host your own server. I use Linode for this, and I wholeheartedly endorse them, but you can do it with all kinds of virtual server providers.
With Linode, here are some articles about how to do it.
You need an Xbox Live account, yes. You can make one for free here: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/live
Once you have signed up for an Xbox account, you will then just follow the process on screen in Minecraft. It will have you link your PSN account to the Xbox account (sometimes referred to as a Microsoft Account) and after that you will be able to access Realms on PS4.
Your friend will need to add your Xbox Gamertag as a friend on his new Xbox account, and then you two will be able to play together.
The same thing happen to one of my friend, and they used a VPN (NordVPN) and they were able to join the realm again. for some reason their router fire wall was causing issues with joining my Minecraft realm and the VPN allow them to join when they switch to different countries.
My friend had an Similar issue, for some reason his routers fire wall was causing connection issue like you are ex-experiencing. I told him to try his VPN (NordVPN) and it worked, but he would still get kicked out once or twice but switching to a different country would let him back in.
Honestly I was having this issue so often, it would give me the error code "Connection Lost Internal Exception: .IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host". If this is the error code you're getting the only thing that fixed it for me was getting a VPN. I got ProtonVPN because its free and reliable, but it literally fixed my connections issues, and I tried everything, I uninstalled, I opened ports on my Wifi, I disabled all firewalls, I would run it as administrator, and more. But I guess all I needed to do was get a VPN, I would recommend trying it, worked for me.
Sadly we never managed to fix it. However, we found a workaround. My friend used a VPN, NordVPN in this case, and then the problem was fixed. Whenever we were going to play he just activated the VPN. This made me think that the problem was probably with his internet provider or location. Although not exactly a fix, if you have a VPN you can just use that to play normally.
I had trouble connecting to my realm on lte and certain WiFi. The resolution was downloading a vpn and connecting through that. I had to download several before I found one that worked for me. Betternet vpn ended up being the one that allowed me to connect to the realm
I finally figured out that, my ISP is blocking AWS (Amazon web services). That's why I can't connect. After that I've tried several VPN softwares and for me, Hotspot Shield is the best. It has free subscription but there is a limit. But I can play with that.
