> The crashing noise you hear between the breaks of the guitar solo is the sound of windchimes tied to a 2x4 slapped against a wood table. The band confirmed this in an interview on WNEW New York in the winter of 2002.
Just looked it up, found this:
>Despite being an instrumental, the song tells a complete story, complete with plot and characters. It's based on some nightmares Alex Lifeson experienced.
>"Danforth and Pape" (Part VII) is an intersection in downtown Toronto. It is well known for being somewhat chaotic during rush hour.
>Villa Strangiato is a real place in Italy. It was the home of the late Barone (Baron) Strangiato, an Italian nobleman, but it is not a major Italian landmark.
I don't get the part about having a plot and characters but I'll try to look into it more and come back if I find anything.

> The "rap" parts are the electronically-enhanced voice of Geddy Lee. Rupert Hine, who produced the track, explained: "After initially wanting a variety of 'famous voices' for that part (the final favourite of which was John Cleese) we finally decided that it should be less of a 'cameo role' and more 'self-contained.' Geddy asked me to do it, but after some experimentation we managed to effect his own voice to achieve a similar apparent depth."
Ya, they did. I got super lucky when they went onsale. Did you enter the 2 giveaway's (Klipsch and sirius/xm)?

I think the closest you can get is a book called "Taking Center Stage." It goes through all of his setups during his tours and has transcriptions of many of his most popular tunes. It's pretty good, you should check it out!
There is also a book that gives more detail to the story. And even better - the audiobook version is narrated by The Professor himself.
You've probably heard the stereotypes about Rush fans. Overwhelmingly male and air drumming. But I've found a lot of Rush fans in technical fields many who have no musical background.
Please answer this survey and I'll post the results in a few weeks.
Totally non-scientific but could be interesting.
A companion to the film is Neil's new book, Far and Wide. Only $20 on Amazon, it is a coffee table-worthy book with hundreds of color pics and much of the back story to R40. Fantastic read, other than the fact it slam dunks the idea that they are done touring. A must read for any serious Rush fan, IMHO.
It's available on the site:
https://www.rushbackstage.com/en-ca/rushbackstage/media-260/compact-discs/cd-different-stages.html
Also on Amazon:
Unless you're talking about vinyl in which case I have no idea.
Interesting, if inconclusive, discussion about this on Wikipedia (search for "Genus" within the page to get to the relevant topic).
EDIT: Also found quite a bit on this at the album's Wikiwand page, including an apparent link to " at least one source which states that the "genus" was not a typo." (http://www.wikiwand.com/en/Talk:2112_(album)/Archive_1)
Since I've had several PMs, I thought I'd just post the link HERE. Anybody who wants to use it, just be sure to post some pics so we can see your Rush art!
EDIT: spelling
Also my favorite. If you are interested, Amazon still has a few picture discs from the 40th anniversary Record Store Day event for around $30. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PYJ5KNH/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_GE11C1ADM3K5HJBS9KXB
They were (are?) indeed a Game Stop exclusive though no store in driving distance of me had any plans to get them in after calling around. Fast forward a few weeks and I searched on Amazon for the Hell of it ready to pay more if need be. Didn’t even have to think about it. Sealed and authentic for under $30 bucks. The guys are currently sitting on my TV stand front and center!
I vote we start a huge project!
We try to cover EVERY Rush song
/u/GamesinaBit can coordinate the thing. We pick songs to cover. We assign instrument roles to different users. We try to be fair and let everyone who wants to participate get a role. We can keep track of who's gonna do what using a spreadsheet like this:
I think it could be a sweet challenge for all of us, and give us something to have fun with for quite a long time!
Thoughts? Or am I an asshole for even suggesting the possibility of us covering Dog Years....?
I know that's how they're referred to on the back of the FBN album, but I didn't know that they were their actual nicknames. Here's the story I'd always heard. This came from http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2364: > Rush's road manager Howard Ungerleider came up with the title at a party. There were two dogs at the party, one a German shepherd and the other a tiny white nervous dog. Howard used to call the shepherd By-Tor because anyone that walked into the house was bitten. The other dog was a snow-dog (white). So from that night on Howard called the pair of dogs "By-Tor and the Snow Dog." The dogs belonged to Rush's manager.
> Neil is one cool dude, my hero for the last 30 years or so.
At least in terms of Neil, I believe he'd prefer the term role model. (But yes, myself as well... /grins)
Yes, I have had the 2112 album on bluray in 5.l channel for several years now. Its probably my favorite way to listen to 2112.

Larry Lujack is sadly no longer with us. Landecker still works in radio. Sirott still works in television. Tommy Edwards has a new book out called "I Grew Up Listening to You":

2112 was fantastic in 5.1

I feel like I have moving pictures on a 5.1 surround DVD, not bluray. However I think it may have been available on bluray too? Couldn't find it on amazon though.
5.1 Signals has been out since 2011 via the Sector 3 boxset: http://www.amazon.com/Sector-3-Rush/dp/B005ORVN1Y/
I actually down-mixed Subdivisions to stereo for my phone because I prefer this version better. (Alex's guitar is prominent.)
I've been wearing earplugs to Rush since R30 - it's just been too much for me otherwise. The sound is much clearer as well.
My eight-year old is coming along for this tour, so I picked up these for him:
Especially after seeing kids featured in the last few live DVDs wearing them.
Sorry it took me so long to reply! These are the ones we have, by mossy oak. These come in baby/toddler, kid and adult sizes and all different colors and patterns. You can find them at sporting good stores, dicks, gander mountain, bass pro etc.

The Grace Under Pressure Tour Live album (official release) includes The Weapon (and is definitely worth having overall).

I've often found used CDs selling on Amazon for around this price, as people have probably wanted to just get rid of them. But now with fewer and fewer people buying CDs, there may be fewer used CDs available on Amazon too.
I just searched for this album on Amazon, and This one is available used in "good" condition from one seller for $6.12 ($2.13 + $3.99 shipping), and there are other used copies available too.
Have you picked this up? Lots of pictures of tickets in there. I was smiling when is saw a ticket to the same show as my first Rush concert in 1991.

This is excellent! Immediately made me think of an 8 bit platformer called Super 80’s World. Fun game with several Rush references sprinkled throughout.
Highly recommended. Used to be on the iOS App Store, but appears to have been pulled. Android users can still download the game here…

Try this smart tape!
It can not only record your circumference, but also calculate the body fat rate, and at the same time, it can also calculate the more accurate body fat rate in combination with the body fat scale compensation, allowing you to better grasp the changes in your body.
https://www.amazon.com/Slimpal-Bluetooth-Retractable-Measuring-Bodybuilding/dp/B09CDNXY9N
It has a lot of connectors on the back, and I'm planning on investing in really nice speakers.
I was warned that it destroys vinyl because "the arm" is too heavy, but you have a little thing with which you can limit how low the needle will go, and you can attach the little counterweights.
Also, my plan was to get this one in 2022., and that's still the plan, but I don't have to *rush* now.
Ah ok the one you pulled up is actually the sequel, “Clockwork Lives”. It’s not part of the album, just a separate story set in the same universe if I understand it correctly. I haven’t gotten a copy of it yet so idk that much about it.
Here’s the actual one: https://www.amazon.com/Clockwork-Angels-Kevin-J-Anderson/dp/1770411216
But yeah if you like his writing then I think you’ll love the novel version of the album. I typically hate reading but I make an exception for Clockwork Angels
I like his writing. He's co-authored the Dune prequel and sequel books with Brian Herbert, which are largely disavowed by die hard Dune book fans, for reasons.
The Clockwork Angels book I saw thru a quick search on Amazon turned up a graphic novel.
I found out today that there are aftermarket (and maybe even Zippo) inserts to make them flameless. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083ZMC89W/ In case you want to be both the Analog Kid and the Digital Man.
I had this book when I was younger and if I remember correctly the story went that Alex, Neil and Geddy locked the rest of the studio crew outside in the cold and recorded them yelling to get back inside. Not sure what the reality is though.
Edit: nevermind this link seems to support that it was as the others have said!
I just re-downloaded this the other day from GOG!!! I friggin loved this game when I was a kid and when I saw it for sale on GOG.com I lost my damn mind. The music was still as bad ass I remembered.
I use these

The show on March 11 is listed, with some detailed notes about the set list and lighting, and a quick sentence from Aquarian Weekly - “Rush has a penchant for long instrumentals passages and bottom-heavy rhythm. They are loud and they are proud of it”. Nothing about a reschedule and April 19 has no entry.
It looks to be a pretty awesome price right now, btw. Highly recommended.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0176BKJWY?psc=1 is a book written by someone (not me!) of faith who's vastly into Rush.
I'm as big a Rush nerd as you'll come across and I'm fairly religious.
So no, you're not alone.
I thought Clockwork Angels was a great album.
I enjoyed Rush The Illustrated History, by Martin Popoff. Chapters are mostly split by album. Think there may be an updated edition, as mine has a different cover than the amazon link.
Mine was a gift, but they have it here on Amazon. I get so many comment on it, it's a great conversation starter.

The pre-order page on amazon lists A Passage to Bangkok in their track-list. It might be exclusive to the full box-set, maybe.
Also, they recorded both Manchester shows (according to the moving pictures tour book), so everything in this box-set could all potentially be unheard material.
For me, their performances during the Europe part of this tour are some of their best. They're also rocking probably my favourite set-list of any tour, so I am so happy this has finally come. I just wish live recordings of 2112 and La Villa Strangiato were also included, but it's nothing really to complain about. Plenty of good recordings of those two already exists.
And I doubt the Jacob's Ladder recording is from the same recording as the St. Louis bootleg. It might be from the same show, or it could be from one of the other three shows they did there. If it is from the same show as the bootleg, it's probably a recording done by the band, not the radio station. That said, you should expect better sound quality than what's heard on the bootleg
It was B side to the Caravan single they released prior to releasing Clockwork Angels. I bought it off Amazon when it was offered in 2010. The digital version is out there. But here: https://smile.amazon.com/RUSH-CARAVAN-BU2B-PROMO-CANADIAN/dp/B004WH48QY
While searching for it, this song popped up - anyone know the story behind it? https://www.amazon.com/Alex-Lifeson/dp/B076RQJS3S My meager googling didn't turn up anything. I listened to it, but nothing about it said "Alex Lifeson" to me...
It's an awesome book stuffed with rare photos and scans of old tickets and promotional posters over their career, my Grandma got it for me last Christmas and it's great gift for a Rush fan, here is a link if anyone is interested

At the risk of downvotes, I cringe when I hear 2112 done after the 70s. Geddy just couldn't physically sing it anymore. The version on AtWaS is fantastic; I love hearing Geddy switch between pained scream and his natural voice, but obviously one can't do that forever.
I recently got Rush: Classic Albums: 2112 & Moving Pictures (which I highly recommend) and there are clips of live 70s versions of 2112 next to 80s versions, and it's night and day. I honestly don't know why they showed the clips from the 80s.
I also may consider picking these to make it look better. Not sure if you're interested in them too.
All of them...no seriously. I have yet to come across a Rush album I didn't immediately take to. With this in mind, I would personally suggest Fly by Night, 2112 and Moving Pictures as jump off points. Think about the songs you like most on Chronicles and then find the album(s) containing those songs. Different albums are great for different reasons and some go together quite well (Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres is the example that really pops out). There is also Different Stages Live, a live anthology, similar to Chronicles worth checking out http://www.amazon.com/Different-Stages-Live-Rush/dp/B004JKJQ8Y/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1429391868&sr=8-11&keywords=rush+live
it does now. i'm guessing amazon didn't know until it was stated by the label. http://www.amazon.com/2112-Hologram-LP-Rush/dp/B00QR7ZNFW/ref=sr_1_1_twi_3?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1424962870&sr=1-1&keywords=2112
Did you just get the album, or an advanced copy of the book? If so, I'm jealous. The rest of us have to wait until September 3rd.
P.S. Happy birthday, fellow Rushian!
I had a greater appreciation of Ghost Rider after reading the book.
I've had this album sitting on my shelf for a few years now, and I had to share it.
If you like, you can buy it on Amazon. They even have another album covering <em>Exit... Stage Left</em> as well!
> wow, red & fiery!
That would be why it's called "Red Rocks."
The picture also appears in at least one or two forms on Neil's book, "Landscape with Drums" (highly recommended, BTW)
