Panzerkampf. It's a decent song, but I don't get why everyone seemingly creams themselves over it. It's actually my least* favourite song in The Art of War.
*come on, that album is a masterpiece, I just like the others more.
Yup. The Art of War is probably their best album:
Ghost Division: truly awesome The Art of War: truly captivating 40:1: truly awe inspiring Unbreakable: truly fascinating Cliffs of Gallipoli: truly heart felt Talvisota: truly head banging Panzerkampf: truly patriotic Union: truly unifying Price of a Mile: truly depressing Firestorm: truly vicious Swedish Pagans: Swedish fucking Pagans Glorious Land: truly glorious
Carolus Rex is essentially a concept album that doesn't have a weak moment. But Coat of Arms and The Art of War have a ton of amazing songs that form the backbone of their lives sets. So, I'll say no, there isn't just one.
Ooh... Umm... I don't know. I've got favourite's on each album but I can't think of one specifically...
I suppose... The Swedish version of Carolus Rex? Panzer Battalion? Union? Rorke's Drift? The Art of War? Karolinens Bön?
The Last Stand, Union, Panzerkampf, The Art of War, White Death, Wehrmacht, Metalizer, We Burn, Final Solution, Light in the Black, Back in Control, Carolus Rex, Gott Mit Uns, Lion from the North, Lejonet Från Norden, Poltava, Killing Ground, Shadows, Burn Your Crosses, Twilight of the Thunder God, For Who the Bell Tolls, Camouflage, Hearts of Iron, Smoking Snakes, Far from the Fame, Soldier of Three Armies, Primo Victoria, Into the Fire, Panzer Battalion, Ruina Imperii.

Swedish Pagans
A Lifetime of War
Ghost Division
(There were some songs that I haven't listened to yet, so I just chose the ones I have listened to or a random one if I haven't listened to both)
My favorites are: To Hell and Back (Heroes), The Winged Hussars (The Last Stand), No Bullets Fly (Heroes), Night Witches (Heroes), The Last Stand (The Last Stand), Sparta (The Last Stand), Cliffs of Gallipoli (The Art of War), The Price of a Mile (The Art of War), The Last Battle (The Last Stand), Resist and Bite (Heroes), A Lifetime of War (Carolus Rex), Wolfpack (Primo Victoria), The Lost Battalion (The Last Stand), and Carolus Rex (Carolus Rex)
Sabaton always want the next album to be better than the previous, I really like The Last Stand and thematically speaking it was a new thing for them, it mixed second world war song (as always, and should be), first world war songs (since The Art of War), modern battles song (since Aterro) and old battles song (since Carolus), they never mixed like that and I would love if they do that again, but as always they'll want to do better than the previous, and I wouldn't be surprise with a Napoleon album similar to Carolus.
'The Art of War', 'Primo Victoria', and 'Carolus Rex' are their big ones. Their latest one, 'The Last Stand', is also very good.
'Coat of Arms' and 'Attero Dominatus' I think have a more mixed reception, but I like some songs from them. 'Heroes' I quite like as well.
In no particular order, here goes:
Soldier of 3 Armies
Inmate 4859
Wolfpack
Night Witches
Attero Dominatus
Hearts of Iron
White Death
To Hell and Back
Light in the Dark
Uprising

Carolus Rex
Panzerkampf - Both are okay in my opinion, I would definitely like Panzer Battalion if it were tuned better, also those lyrics are badass.
Stalingrad - I don't like either of them very much but this one had more of the power and rhythm that I expect from Sabaton.
Midway - Nuclear attack is a little boring to me, Midway is slightly better. I don't like either of them very much.
Coat of Arms - I like how it has more melody than the chanting in Sparta, but otherwise these two were pretty even.
The Price of a Mile - I love the lyrics and that big pause after the question. Long Live the King is good too but it kind of blends in with a lot of other Sabaton music.
Carolean's Prayer - I like the heavy feel on this better than the synth melody on The Art of War.
Hearts of Iron - I like the guitar solos and the general feel of this one better than The Lost Battalion.
Swedish Pagans - I like the lyrics of Swedish Pagans and I can't stand the singer (that is not Joakim) on Metal Crüe.
A Lifetime of War - I love the power and grandeur of this one and it sounds quite different from most other Sabaton songs. 40:1 is very close but it is a more of standard Sabaton so it sometimes sounds boring.
Primo Victoria - I like the full and heavy sound of Primo Victoria better than Ghost Division, but it is close.
Ooh... So many...
Far From the Fame, Swedish Pagans, Ruina Imperii, Carolus Rex, Karolinens Bön, Union, The Art of War, Firestorm, Panzer Battalion, Into the Fire, Angels Calling, Light in the Black, White Death, The Last Stand, Hill 3234, Rorke's Drift, Camouflage, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Twilight of the Thunder God, Smoking Snakes...
Tbf, Coat of Arms (as an album) isn't really mentioned all that much.
Then again, I can see why. It's a good one but dwarfed in the middle of (in most's opinions) their best work: The Art of War and Carolus Rex, and so is a little underwhelming (I do love it though).
Auuugggghhh...don't make me choose!
But if I had to make a list I guess it would go like this:
The Art of War (Ghost division was the first Sabaton song I ever heard and I've been in love ever since.)
Coat of Arms
Heroes/The Last Stand (I can't fucking make up my mind.)
Primo Victoria
Carolus Rex
Attero Dominatus
Metalizer
Carolus definitely isn't my least favorite...it's just, I dunno. I list favorites often by memories associated with them and IIRC Carolus was the album that came out right after the band initially split up and at the time I was angsty and salty about the idea of the Sabaton formula changing with a new band. I think that may have unfairly colored my perception against Carolus at the time but it hasn't stayed as my least favorite at all. I appreciate it now looking back and seeing that it was the breakout point to make the band what it is now. Sabaton has become a much more diverse and creative band than it was before Carolus and it's thanks to the success of Carolus that we have concept albums like Heroes and TLS.
Also despite my earlier misgivings The Lion From The North and Long Live the King were always mindblowingly good. Was never that crazy about the rest of the album though.
I too just started listening to Sabaton. I suggest starting with The Art of War. Songs like Ghost Division, 40:1, Cliffs of Galipoli, Unbreakable, and Firestorm are some of my favorites. Then buy Carolus Rex.
I'd say Heroes is the best, since it's just filled with a bunch of short but sweet songs, many of which you probably heard at the show. They probably also played The Lost Battalion off their upcoming album The Last Stand. Primo Victoria would be a good album to listen to too as the title track is probably their biggest song, and Metal Machine is awesome. Carolus Rex and The Art of War are my favourite albums. I'd recommend listening to all their albums but be warned that Metallizer is a very different experience, that was before they had good production and before they decided to write mostly songs of war.
Personally, the only album that I absolutely love every track on is The Art of War. But even then, the other albums usually only have 1 track that I'm just "Eh" on. But I'd say pretty much everyone can agree that Carolus Rex was a really great one. Their opus? That's still debatable, so I don't think there is one.
I would give that edge ever so slightly to Carolus Rex, but I feel that that is simply due to the cohesiveness of that one's 'narrative' and having some ridiculously good songs. As far as having varied and consistently good (read: consistently very good) songs, #1 has to go to The Art of War.
Carolus Rex Attero Dominatus The Art of War Coat of Arms* Primo Victoria* The Last Stand* Metalizer Heroes
*I like these three about equally, so they are listed as I remembered them, not as I think of them.
Also, nothing against Heroes (it's got some of my favourite songs of Sabaton of all time on there), I just can't find myself listening all the way through it. I'll pick a couple of the really good ones at any given time.
Not counting covers or else an Amon Amarth song would be #1:
Carolus Rex
Panzerkampf
Ghost Division
Primo Victoria
Aces in Exile
Metal Machine
Night Witches
The Last Stand
No Bullets Fly
The Art of War
Don't make me rank them... Fine.
6) The Last Stand- everything you said.
5) White Death- POOOOWWWEEEERR and catchy AF. Hähyä's story fascinates me and the intro drums, riff and chorus will stick in my head for days if I don't listen to it the whole way through.
4) Union- a lot like Gott Mit Uns in shanty-ness. Very swaying song simultaneously with a cautious and confident band of brothers. Joakim is on the top of his range-game.
3)Panzer Battalion- I just love this song. I'm not American, but the USA USA USA vibe is strong with me throughout and the Iraqis are truly pathetic in comparison to OUR PANZER BATTALION.
2) Carolus Rex- whether it be the Swedish or English version, a vibe of an arrogant boy King thrust into manhood by his own, well God's accord is awe inspiring. This just screams (literally and figuratively) "DIN VILJA SKE".
1) Far from the Fame (specifically the 2011 single version)- this song is just beautifully written and performed from the get go of the drums, to the guitars' melodies and the lyrics themselves paint a beautifully disturbing picture of a man who fought for all but lost all. Perfection.
Honourable mentions: Rorke's Drift, Konungens Likfärd, Ruins Imperii, Camouflage, Karolinens Bön, Twilight of the Thunder God, ~~Långa Bola På Bengt~~ Glorious Land, Swedish Pagans, Primo Victoria, Night Witches, Into the Fire, Back in Control, Nuclear Attack, Light in the Black, We Burn, Rise of Evil, The Art of War, Firestorm, Price of a Mile, Coat of Arms, The Final Solution, Metal Cüe, 1648, Lifetime of War, Soldier of Three Armies, To Hell and Back, Smoking Snakes, Sparta, Hill 3234, Winged Hussars, Hail to the King, Birds of War and Hellrider. Metalizer and Burn Your Crosses too...
Oh boy, do I like sabaton.
I actually went backwards when it came to listening to their albums (currently at Metalizer/Coat of Arms), but I the songs that I listened to before going on an album-listening binge were The Ballad of Bull, Swedish Pagans, Gott Mit Uns, To Hell and Back, Ghost Division, Primo Victoria, and Attero Dominatus. All of those should give you a diverse yet similar taste to their songs. Now, for listening to their discography, starting with Carolus Rex isn't bad, and after, The Art of War. Those two are their most powerful albums so far. After that, going with their much earlier works won't hurt, being Primo Victoria and Attero Dominatus. Then you can just go through the rest, being Metalizer, Coat of Arms, Heroes, and The Last Stand. Those four aren't bad at all, in fact, Heroes is my favorite album, but it's just that they can really off-put new listeners since there are more experimental songs in them (especially Metalizer, obviously).
Panzer Battalion
Angels Calling
Nuclear Attack
... I really like them both... Fine: Coat of Arms (just. Only just)
Kounungens Likfärd
The Art of War (but the chanting is so good...)
Hearts of Iron
Swedish Pagans
A Lifetime of War
Primo Victoria
Primo Victoria as a 6 or 7 year old on a long car journey home and my older brother with an MP3 player.
Years later, I was gifted his old iPod with all of their albums to Carolus Rex.
I gave The Art of War my attention. I must have been listening to that album for months exclusively.
Man, I love that album.
Start with the song 'Primo Victoria'. Then the albums 'The Art of War' and 'Coat of Arms. Then go back if you wish to 'Primo Victoria', 'Attero Dominatus' and 'Metalizer' (which was their first and a lot heavier album: not all are fans) and forward to 'Carolus Rex' (generally considered to be their best album), 'Heroes' and 'The Last Stand' (their most recent album).
They are a Swedish power metal band who specialise in documenting military history (usually WWI or WWII) through the medium of METAL. They aren't Slipknot by any means, they are not very heavy metal.
All of Attero Dominatus (a similar vibe to Heroes in my opinion). All of Carolus Rex (it's a) an incredible set of songs and b) it tells one hell of a story). All of The Art of War (each song has inspiration derived from each of the chapter of Sun Tzu's greatest work).
Metalizer: Masters of the World, Shadows, Burn Your Crosses or 7734 Primo Victoria: Into the Fire and Panzer Battalion Attero Dominatus: Rise of Evil. Back in Control and In the Name of God are both pretty good too. The Art of War: The Art of War, Union and Swedish Pagans Coat of Arms: Final Solution and Screaming Eagles Carolus Rex: Carolus Rex (Sv) and Karolinens Bön Heroes: Smoking Snakes, Soldier of Three Armies, Far from the Fame, For Whom the Bell Tolls The Last Stand: oh god... Umm... The Last Stand, Rorke's Drift, Hill 3234, Camouflage, Sparta, Shiroyama, etc...
Can't speak for the whole community of course, but I found most of their albums really good, especially Primo Victoria, The Art of War and Carolus Rex. I didn't like Heroes that much, it had some songs that were quite nice, but was overall forgettable at best. The Last Stand though is definitely a good album, but not as good as some of their former efforts.
But yeah, well, ya know, that's just like... my opinion, man.
Bannockburn is a personal favourite as it goes away from the formula a bit, really like The Last Stand as well. There's nothing I'm disappointed with really other than the choice of opening track, kind of felt something with more impact could be up first. I'll say this though, the melody recycling was really noticeable this time, it felt like almost every other song had elements lifted from older songs like Midway and The Art of War.
I first saw them about a month ago too, at a festival in germany, together with Iron Maiden, and I didn't listen to much else then Sabaton since then!
They have a lot of great songs and albums. My recommendation would be to start with the albums "The Art of War" ("The Art of War", "Ghost Division", "The Price of a Mile"), "Carolus Rex" ("Gott mit Uns", "Lion from the North", "Carolus Rex") or "Primo Victoria" ("Primo Victoria", "Panzer Battalion", "Counterstrike").
This was way harder to do than I expected. Some of my favorite songs come from my least favorite albums. Their performance of Ghost Division at Woodstock was the first time I heard Sabaton, and it remains my favorite song. The Hammer Has Fallen is another of my all time favorites. Meanwhile, Carolus Rex and Heroes are two of the most consistently good albums of any band. It was really hard to pick a favorite song from those, with Far From the Fame, To Hell and Back, 1648, Long Live the King, etc. Then there's the masterpieces of 7734, Midway, Rise of Evil, Final Solution... Man. It's hard to rank Sabaton.
Japan's history is basically nothing but fighting, it would be cool to see some inspiration pulled from there. There isn't really anything outside of the western world apart from The Art of War, Nuclear Attack, Midway, and a few about the Vietnam War.
I'd love to see the Battle of Nagashino featured. A castle is besieged by 15k men under Takeda Katsuyori. Oda Nobunaga shows up with 38k men to break the siege, bringing with him samurai armed with firearms. 12k of the attackers meet the relief force, and while 38k vs 12k isn't too impressive, what is impressive is that by using certain strategies, Oda managed to completely stop Takeda's cavalry charge dead in its tracks and wipe out almost the entire enemy army with the loss of only 60 men. Oda's forces killed 200 enemy troops for every man they lost. It's viewed as the best use of firearms strategically in feudal Japan and is argued to be the turning point of Japanese warfare and the first "modern" battle in Japanese history.
Primo Victoria - Wolfpack
Attero Dominatus - Metal Cruë
Metalizer/Fist for Fight - The Hammer has Fallen
The Art of War - The Price of a Mile
Coat of Arms - Aces in Exile
Carolus Rex - Long Live the King
Heroes - Hearts of Iron
Although every song of every album is just awesome ear candy.
I was disappointed about the official Spotify rewind so I ordered all the information Spotify saved about me (you can do that here) . You have to wait a few days until they get it ready and send it to you, but then you can search through the data to lookup all kinda things. I used the programm Tableau for the nice visualisation, because the data package you get contains mostly "log files", so you need to aggregate the data from it (never used Tableau before, googled everything I wanted to know).
I can give you more details about how to work with the data if you want, just hit me up :)
If you search "urban camo pants" on amazon and purchase the ones from the brand Propper you will be sent a set of Genuine Gear pants. Follow the sizing chart and they should fit. Just remember they are very baggy and loose fitting.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Sabaton. The Panzers extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Rommel Tactics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewers head. There's also Joakim's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Tsun Tzu's "The Art of War" for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs to realise that they're not just epic - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Sabaton truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Joakim's existential catchphrase "Primo Victoria" which itself is a cryptic reference to the allies and their epic victory in 1944. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Joakim's genius wit unfolds itself on their headphones. What fools.. how I pity them.
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Sabaton tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the Prussian high command' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid
While I haven't listened to all of Sabaton's songs, from the ones I have, The Art of War would definitely be my least favorite. Like, seriously, did Joakim forget what rhyming was?
(No offense to those who like it, just stating my opinion.)
I'd heard 40:1 from somewhere(i forget) and thought it was good. I forgot about it. A few months later i was listening to a twitch stream and the streamer started singing "panzer division" and i thought "sounds like a neat song" so i looked it up and noticed it was the same band.
When The Last Stand came out i bought TLS, Carolus Rex, The Art of War, and Heroes.
Carolus Rex, Panzer Battalion, 7734, Back in Control, Rise of Evil, The Final Solution, Union, Firestorm, The Art of War, A Soldier of Three Armies, No Bullets Fly, Far From the Fame, Lion From the North/Lejonet Från Norden, Primo Victoria, Stalingrad, Into the Fire, For Whom the Bell Tolls (cover), Twilight of the Thundergod (cover), Camouflage (cover), To Hell and Back, 40:1, Ghost Division, Smoking Snakes, Uprising, Poltava, The Carolean's Prayer/Karolinens Bön, 1648, A Lifetime of War/En Lifstig I Krig, Gott Mit Uns, Attero Dominatus, Counterstrike, Wolfpack, Reign of Terror, The Last Stand, Rorke's Drift, Coat of Arms, Aces in Exile, Screaming Eagles, Hill 3234, Shadows, Metalizer, Metal Crüe, Metal Machine, Metal Ripper, Burn Your Crosses, Price of a Mile, White Death, Talvisota and A Secret.

Carolus Rex: Gott mit uns, Long Live The King (pref swedish version)
Primo Victoria: Primo Victoria, Into The Fire

Attero Dominatus - Attero Dominatus

If their last tours with Iced Earth and Amon Amarth are indication, then you're looking at (not fixed order):
Ghost Division, To Hell and Back, Carolus Rex, 40:1, Swedish Pagans, The Art of War, Primo Victoria, Metal Crue, then then 1-2 of Gott Mit Uns, Resist and Bite (likely this) and White Death
> Honestly, you could make a couple of songs at least out of the whole event. There’s just so many incredible things that happened.
Oh yeah. The sinking itself, the secrecy of the mission and the lack of communication between Navy personnel that led to the delays in the men being rescued, the railroading of the ship’s captain in the wake of the incident…
Went & bought the book, thanks so much for the recommendation! I have read another couple of books about the overall incident as well that were very good:
Both great books that I highly recommend. The authors of the second actually used the first as source material and gave the author a shoutout in the acknowledgments.

I took the liberty of selection your tickets.
You want to arrive in London by 1700 so you can get to Wembley on the tube and get a couple of swift pints before the gig.
Not sure if available in the UK, but if they are, they are totally worth their money (~10£):
The Last Battle- Stephen Harding
A good read if you want the long story of the battle.
So as long as you have the song that you want downloaded on your phone you can edit a custom ringtone. I use ringtone maker pro and have done this with many songs already. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ringtonemakerpro.android

I would love to hear the guys write a song about this as well. There have been at least a couple of really good books written about it:

The Last Stand on Amazon fits the bill
Also, I think that TLS may be a good intro to Sabaton, but The Last Stand and Winged Hussars were my first songs, so I biased
A book came out last year about this:
Maybe Par or Joakim will read it at one point!
I definitely recommend getting some! Even Sabaton plays loud enough to damage your hearing.
These are what I use and are less than $20 on Amazon. They just turn down the volume a little without sounding muffled and can actually make it easier to hear the details of the music.

Primo Victoria, when I got the Sabaton music pack with the Field Marshal Edition of HOI4. I had no idea it was even metal but when ww2 started while I was playing the Soviet Union, it started playing and I never looked back. Coat of Arms is my Favorite followed by The Art of War and Heroes.
A long car journey home, my metalhead brother, his MP3 player and Primo Victoria.
Fell off of my radar for a while (3 years or something?) before I received my brother's iPod as a handmedown- complete with all his music. All metal. I looked through to find anything I recognised, found Sabaton again, got obsessed with The Art of War, then Carolus Rex, Coat of Arms- then Heroes came out. Got obsessed with that, then Primo Victoria, the Attero Dominatus and about the time of The Last Stand's release, I was listening through Metalizer.
And I found this place about that time too- someone had come up with the idea of the Winged Hussars meme in a YouTube comment, made a few, put it on the sub and I made an account just to see the other ones people had made- and post my own.
:) I love this sub.
Whenever i need to confront something -The Art of War- always plays in my mind, it has that atmosphere of uncertain victory, -Uprising- makes me feel anger and rage, and -Hearts of Iron- makes me feel defeated somehow, "It is not about Berlin, it is not about the Reich It's about the men, who fought for them, What peace can they expect?" and -To Hell and Back- makes me feel sympathy about the aftermath of war,.
A Secret deserves the 666/666 in my opinion...
Oh, and Panzerkampf is definitely a 8.5/10 (but maybe that's just cause I like panzers 'n stuff...)
Anyhow, I'd rank the songs somewhat differently: 1) The Art of War 2) Unbreakable 3) Swedish Pagans 4) Firestorm 5) 40-1 6) Ghost Division (I just think they've overdone it with the synthies on that song...) 7) Talvisota 8) Cliffs of Gallipoli 9) Panzerkampf 10) Union 11)The Price of a mile (first Sabaton song I heard) 12) Glorious Land 13) The Art of War Demo
That being said, I found it really hard to rank these songs... They all have their qualities and only minor shortcomings (if any). I personally think that this is their best album so far together with Carolus Rex. The passages out of Sun Tzu's Art of war are a nice gimmick as well. I really enjoy reading your ratings and hope to see some more soon... Maybe about Carolus Rex or The Last Stand?
edit: damn it, forgot Union in the ranking
I'm disappointed that I'm disappointed with this album...The Last Stand, Hill 3234, and Winged Hussars are the only songs that I really liked and sounded fresh (except Hill 3234 which sounds like Counterstrike, good thing Counterstrike is an awesome song).
This album sounds like they wanted to make The Art of War Pt. 2 but with all the same sounds as the original.
I like it better than Heroes though.
However, I know this will be an unpopular opinion about the album.
Coat of Arms / Carolus Rex
The Final Solution and Karolinens Bön.
The Art of War
The Art of War/Unbreakable/Firestorm/Union/Talvisota/A Secret.
Heroes
Attero Dominatus
Rise of Evil / Angels Calling
Primo Victoria
Into The Fire, of course.
Metalizer
Hellrider.
My personal favorite is Carolus Rex, and that is one that regularly seems to top people's charts. They did just release an album a few days ago (The Last Stand), and I am still letting it sink in. It is a very solid album and I might end up calling that my favorite.
Most of there stuff doesn't really follow a concept album style. The Art of War has quotes from the famous book of the same name in between songs, but the songs are unrelated to each other. With Heroes and The Last Stand, they picked stories that can fit in the same category (individual heroes and famous last stands respectively), but the songs themselves don't reference each other and can be listened to on their own. Carolus Rex is the only album that actually tells a story the whole way through (the rise and fall of the Swedish Empire). With that in mind, I would recommend listening to Carolus Rex as a complete album in both English and Swedish but off of that look at individual song recommendations.
As far as individual songs go, listen to all of them at least once. While not all of them are smash hit material, none of their stuff (save some of their very early work) are real flops. Even their worst songs still have solid music and tell good stories. Depending on what your background is and what parts of history you are familiar with, it is entirely possible that a song that falls flat to one person might be deep and meaningful to you. Even their cover and tribute songs are worth it because they often do just as good if not better than the band they are covering in their own style and the tribute songs clearly have a lot of work and spirit put into them.

Sure, you can start by reading Igor Witkowski's "The Truth About the Wunderwaffe". The most important note of course is that the expression "wonder weapons" wasn't even used until after they already started firing V2s. It wasn't referencing them. The documents used for reference only became available after the reunification of Germany.
