I'd like to see most of the tourist threads removed and have a weekly sticky where people can contribute interesting events and things going on around the city.
There are hundreds of sites that specialize in travel, hotels, restaurants, etc. Restaurants don't get 4-5 stars on tripadvisor for being garbage and most of them are the same ones that get namedropped here every single time. I understand there are specific questions that you can't easily find by searching, but the majority of questions are lazy and repetitive.
This trail in Skidaway Island is my favorite because of the length, multiple routes and views. Plus it's free! Watch out for mountain bikers though.
When they first opened up on Habersham I made a post on Nextdoor.com (lousy platform, I stopped using it) about how dangerous and backwards they are and I was soundly criticized for not being open minded. I don't know anything firsthand about abductions, but they are clearly sexist since the men seem to be able to wear anything they want, yet women can't cut their hair and must wear those ludicrous harem pants. Not to mention that they don't allow their kids to attend college or seek employment outside the community.

Savannah is tough if you're planning to grow a career. There's definitely a ceiling. That's why most 30 something's leave for Atlanta/Charlotte/Charleston..etc...
If you are here on a Monday night, go to OddLot Improv comedy, it's family friendly and $5 a pop or what you can. If you are here on a Friday, then try Dead End Mysteries. Same people from Odd Lot, but this is a dinner murder mystery at Savannah Coffee Roasters. This is also family friendly.
EDIT: Added the Murder Mystery site
I haven't been to this myself, but it sounds like a lot of fun. I think this might be the first year this place is open.
Here's a Groupon deal for it as well: https://www.groupon.com/deals/wicked-south-productions
Here is the next one you should start looking at. https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/atlantic/2018/tropical-storm-isaac?map=forecast
there is a sub here on reddit called tropical weather. I dont know nor do i care to know how to link to the sub directly

The summer here was the most oppressive humidity I've dealt with to date. I believe it was worse than the times I've spent along the treasure coast in Florida. Late May to October felt like "summer" to me. The weather has been gorgeous since October (IMO), and was nearly 80F today but we've had a few mornings in the upper 30's.
For anyone interested, I designed a flyer: http://www.filedropper.com/rsavannah (PDF)
It is letter-size and meant to be cut in half. The idea is basically that any redditor would immediately recognize the arrows, and the only other information you need at all is the name of the subreddit. I jsut had the idea so I thought I would make it..
What do you mean there want throttling before it was a thing? There was. There was also more shady shit than just throttling. I’m on mobile so can’t cite things quickly but just a simple google search shows this: https://www.sutori.com/story/the-history-of-net-neutrality-in-the-u-s And when I get home I am going to try to find the reddit post that cited several occasions back in early 2000’s where internet providers were taking advantage of consumers which was why ultimately it became classified as a telecommunications asset so it could be regulated. Update to come.
Hands down I would recomend Afterlife Tours. They do overnight investigations of all the stops on the tour as well as many other places in Savannah and elsewhere. They did the bar I work in one night (Churchill's Pub) and they do a full history of the building and gave us a copy. Very informed tour and Ryan the owner/tourguide made it all the more interesting.
Ooh, Trumpet Garden is my wife's place. The first floor of our wonderful house in the Victorian district. Sleeps up to 8, cheap bc we're new but super nice. Here's the link: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/13675178
It's inside the fort itself, in the southwest corner of the parade grounds.
Thanks for the responses, all. It sounds pretty bleak. As for my specialty, I'm currently a systems architect for a start up in Austin, TX, but I am looking to scale things back at the day job a bit. I have been working on a lot of data science/machine learning/decision prediction systems lately. And I handle operations/devops tasks for our product. I'm most comfortable/adept working on backend systems and infrastructure. That said, I've done everything from web apps in ruby on rails to machine learning in python to patching linux SCSI modules w/C for a rack mount data center appliance and writing PeopleSoft integrations in java.

This article (best I could find) gives a little information about Amazon slowly expanding USPS Sunday delivery. I've had it in San Diego for a few months now, so it must have gained enough popularity to grow.
I have a first Chatham account and they are pretty good. But I also just got and account with simple it's not a local bank but it's pretty awesome. It's all online and you can deposit checks with your phone.
Just to update on the situation, me and my buddy went out for Cinco and had a great time. I did check out Social and Murphy's, but didn't stay long. I found a spot (can't remember the name) that had $1 shots, so went in there and had a few drinks, then went to Club 51. I'm not sure if it had to do with the fact that it was cinco de mayo or that I was so determined to have fun on my birthday , but for once I actually had dancing partners , and felt apart of the crowd.
I apologize to everyone that has had a negative experience from Military people, and I can't blame you for having the negative stereotype on soldiers, I don't hang out with them either. Me and my buddy met 2 years ago right after basic , went to Korea together, and now are at ft Stewart together and besides each other we steer clear of soldiers also. We both work IT in the Army so we don't fall into the negative stereotype pretty much at all. We are in separate units, and I am personally in a Field Artillery unit (country boys who fix vehicles and shoot big guns) , and pretty much don't talk to anyone, or get along with anyone I work with.
I try to hide the fact I'm in the army by doing my hair or wearing a hat or something, but still you can spot a military hair cut no matter how much you try to hide it.
http://tinypic.com/r/24oq5c2/6 here is a picture of me before I went out saturday night, am I atleast not dressing into the military stereotype
Buy something like this and never have this problem again.
Run the risk of scratching the porcelain with pumice & that will give more surface area for stains. https://www.amazon.com/Shaws-Pads-Toilet-Ring-Remover/dp/B07P7514CV/ref=sr_1_2_sspa? Works great without elbow grease. No chemicals. Be sure to wet it first & don't scrub hard.

This is the one I got my wife a few years ago and we love it. Lifetime warranty on parts, if I remember correctly.
As someone who used to live by off deep woods, Picaridin changed my mind. It is as or more effective and has more staying power. Also it doesn’t smell awful.

Ah sorry. There’s a slight miscommunication here. I personally have not walked to Kroger to go grocery shopping and back. I’m not a student and do have a car. I was just giving the time it takes to walk from Ardsley to downtown in case the OP lived in the Montgomery dorms. It’s not as daunting or as long as it seems. Also if you have one of these you could haul a lot more.
I have hauled a wagon load of market produce from Forsyth to Bull and 37th before.
As a former haunted pub crawl tour guide in the city for 4 year, let me suggest the pub crawl with Chad at Tara Haunted Tours. That is the company I worked for and Chad taught me so much about the city. He is also a teacher as his day job, in his early 30s, so very knowledgeable and approachable. Check out their trip advisor page, you will be hard pressed to find any negative reviews about Chad. Seriously, call Tara Haunted Tours, and request Chad, and if you arn't satisfied I will personally refund your money :).

Airbnb is always your best bet imo. I've always been able to find rooms (usually need to book weeks in advance) for way cheaper than what hotels offer. I don't think there's anything in that price range, but some people seem to be offering places for $60-75, but that doesn't include cleaning and listing fees they charge so expect an extra $10-25 on top of that. I live about 2 miles from River Street and it costs me about $5 one way to get around downtown with Uber.

I'm sorry you haven't been able to find anyone to take in your cat. I know you weren't seeking advice, but I highly recommend this cat introduction method and plug-in pheromones to keep the cats chilled out during the introduction period. I have four cats who get along pretty well after following this method with each addition. Good luck with your kitty!
I think tours range from $20-40 depending on the time they happen, cheapest ones are during the day. This is the only show that lets you in the Savannah theater and is ghost related. And then your ticket gets you a buy-one get-one free for the next time you want to come, or to give to friends. This is a one man show, rather than a tour, and most importantly for Savannah summer, it is air conditioned. Here's some reviews on Trip Advisor
meetup.com is popular here, but the area is not so big that there are gay-only groups for every interest. Instead, find activities you like to do (I recommend checking out Rivers Alive), local calendar & events, a martial art. Then, simply attend those and keep an eye out for romantic potential.
You're not the only person who's said that - I'm not planning on containing the group to meetup.com only, but if you want to participate online an account will be required, at some point.
I decided on meetup because of the audience & usage in Savannah. It cost me apx $60 to create the group, so I've got some skin in the game and motivation to continue building (the fee also makes the groups a bit more special as they can't be spun up without some level of commitment).
I'm creating a website with several features to include a public calendar and discussion forum. I've also created a subreddit, g+, and facebook page for the group.
You can sign into meetup using a google or facebook account, if you're inclined. I'm not sure that's even necessary as the group I've made is open - so when we schedule something, it'll be viewable by non-signed in public. I realize now the link above links to a 'join meetup' page - but if you instead go to the site and search for the group 'radical moderates' you can see what signed-in users can see.
This is one of the beams I have. You will also need a 12v power supply, an arduino with Ethernet shield, and some Ethernet wire. I use Blynk for the push notifications but you can also use a gsm shield or a different service. I can help you with writing the program if you get stuck.
If it helps at all, I bought a PUR water dispenser when I moved out here, and it really helps with how the water tastes. Maybe give something like this a try:
There are recent reviews in this product listing from purchasers in the United States. Using Amazon appears to be a typical method.
Kinder Chocolate, CASE, 10x100g https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LQNCEE/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_NVCKub06K6CH9
We buy a natural spray off of amazon Vet's Best Flea and Tick Home... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P9VLQ6B?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share It’s safe for furniture, carpet, bedding, and to use on animals. I also use pure baking soda once a month when I vacuum. Every time I vacuum I always empty the container and take it out and throw it away. Obviously I use flex treatment monthly on my dogs. I can’t have someone come in and spray bc I raise guinea pigs and the fumes (even if we can’t smell them) can kill my pigs. It’s also incredibly cheap lol
If I’m finding the right post, it looks like the only author who wrote something relevant to my search is Teddy Adams. Most of these are self-published self-help authors.
In case anyone else is looking, ”The Up of the Down Beat” is available on Amazon.

Thanks!
Not a documentary, but I really enjoyed this book: https://www.amazon.com/Behind-Moss-Curtain-Savannah-Stories/dp/0972422404/ref=sr_1_3/139-0960788-4008518?ie=UTF8&qid=1518101778&sr=8-3&keywords=murray+silver
It was written by the upstart mayoral candidate and active SavNow commentor.
If you can find one of these, a bug canopy is about one of the best things you could get for yourself. It keeps you shaded in the middle of the day and there will be so few bugs, you'll think it's not working... until you go outside of it again...
Ever since my wife bought me this for xmas last year, I have probably quadrupled the time I spend in my backyard.
