Funny coincidence: I bought hl alyx and virtual desktop and installed steam and everything on my shadow pc ~ 3 hours ago and am right back from playing that game.
It runs beautifully. There is a few seconds stuttering every 10 minutes or so but still: It runs great. My shadow pc is the smallest one (shadow boost) and I left basically everything at defaults and did not follow any tuning guides regarding shadow, virtual desktop or hl alyx.
My wifi at home and internet connection is pretty ok tho. The shadow pc speed test https://shadow.tech/requirements/internet-speed-test/
measures 720mbit down, 20mbit up, ping 19ms and jitter 15ms via wifi.

Allows ADB over USB-OTG. You can install .apks, most importantly a proper file manager like ALFile with a built in package installer can be installed onto the Quest 2 for future .apk installs directly on the headset.
You can get a usb-a to usb-c cable. Make sure it transfers data and doesn’t just charge
Edit: this one is probably good, if you don’t have one lying around: UGREEN USB Type C Cable USB A to USB C Fast Charger Nylon Braided Compatible for Samsung Galaxy S9 S10 S8 Plus Note 9 8, Nintendo Switch, LG G7 V40 V20 V30 G6 G5, iPad Pro 2018 (3FT) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PHQ669X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0fjTEbP4C0E62
An evolution of a game jam concept we started years ago: https://itch.io/jam/2018-summer-ue4jam/rate/295834 while redesigning the gameplay loop and optimizing primarily for the quest. Light hearted fun with charming graphics. Currently in the process of trying out a linear locomotion system, similar to how Pistol Whip handles it. Gameplay involves you collecting fruit and fending off moles to keep your tractor moving forward!
Sorry for this. I completely forgot to add a reset start position button in this release. Thank you for letting me know. Someone pointed me to this thread on itch.io. I will add it in the next update for sure.
These will help keep your screen less disgusting.
Things to double check:
does your phone support usb OTG?, the message on your video on the very least sugest the phone didnt saw a usb guest via OTG, an adapter might be nescessary. (its actually offering its files to the quest, not the other way) The best way to test if the OTG is working is to try to connect a usb thumbdrive/disk and see if you can navigate through the contents.
Is the developer mode enabled on the quest? if yes, you will also need to check for a prompt on the quest to allow the conected device to be trusted for sideloading purposes.

Thank you!
If the phone is 5G you might be able to pull it off with the Shadow PC app
Or if you have a good wireless connection and a basic computer or laptop it might work with Shadow PC version too. It’s basically a virtual PC.
I just signed up it to try it out so can’t vouch for it yet. My “virtual PC” will be ready on 12/29.
Oh! And if you do sign up use my code MAT4NWSE 😬
Makes the first month $10. Totally worth it to try at least! I’m crossing my fingers that it works as well as people say
Answers for you:
If your phone as a Micro-B or Micro-B 3.1 Gen 2 port, get a cable that is specifically USB-C to Micro-B or USB-C to Micro-B 3.1 Gen 2.
You can also find other adapters (called "On The Go" or "OTG" adapters) that will allow you to use cables with a USB-A end.
If your phone port isn't either of those I mentioned, I'm very curious as to what it is. Best of luck!
There's a good one you can buy on Amazon called party link cable it comes with a USB-C to USB-A adapter and the USB-A adapter is for 3.0 and 2.0 but it will only work if your computer is VR ready as for any computer that you're trying to plug your VR headset into with side quest if your computer is not VR ready then the Quest VR headset will not be able to connect to side quest or be able to connect to the computer at all and you will not get the green light on side quest therefore you will not be able to side load games from side quest or even use steam link and play Steam games on the quest but here's a link to the party link cable off of Amazon if you think about ever trying it I use It and it hasn't failed me yet It should be fine to use if your computer is VR ready https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084YQ83WW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_K4XB7NRZT6BRPZPSEC7S
Any usb c to usb a cable works.
Or usb c 3.0 to usb a 3.0 adapter
Here is first I found on Amazon, it should do exactly what you need it to;

Electop Updated USB 3.1 GEN 2 Male to Type-C Female Adapter, Support Double Sided 10Gbps Charging & Data Transfer, USB A to USB C 3.1 Converter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q81GD5G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_Hg-QFb0GEB072
I had the EXACT same problem with the same case! I didn’t wanna loose the quality and feeling of my $80 cable, and felt that the port on the back of the motherboard that literally says “VR ready” was a good start. I bought this female usb-c to male usb 3 dongle, and have had no problems using ever since. Hope this helps!
I just want to point out that nividia has ported hl2 to mobile and I think hl2 uses the same engine
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nvidia.valvesoftware.halflife2 and here is the proof that it could run on the quest
Edit: I just realised it was made for shield TV and I have no idea about how strong that is all I know is that is an Android system
Most likely you are using a cable that was meant for charging only. If you get a cable (the one that came with it should work) that was also meant to transfer data you will be fine.
I use this one.
This one works great for me: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GGKYR2O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
