Well, first off, it's blocked for a reason, so I'm gonna advise you focus on work at work or school while at school. But hey, I'm not your teacher/boss -- who the hell am I to stop you?
Also, do note that having any of these could potentially be against any terms of service with your workplace or school, so it's probably within your best interest to look into any handbooks or anything else that would explicitly state some rules on web usage.
First off, you can try Hotspot Shield. Just keep note that a system administrator could possibly check your files remotely and find the client.
Second, and my personal choice, is Browsec VPN for FireFox. Sorry to any Chrome users, and while you can get a VPN on Chrome, I've found this one to work best. Obviously, you'll want Firefox browser, and this plugin -- both for free. Should get you around filters, but is a bit slow sometimes. I believe it'd be harder for and sys admins to check, too.
Again, I'd like to restate that having a VPN on your computer could potentially get you into deep trouble if caught. If you're just using it for something as harmless as Showdown, you might get off easy, but it could also come off as suspicious to any employers or... whatever the school equivalent of an employer is (teacher? principal?). Stay safe and have fun.
Timid nature isn't right. You should be jolly or naive.
That said,

Hey, so the EV spreads you are seeing are built to survive certain hits from other Pokes. Like my Sylveon is this set
Sylveon @Choice Specs
Nature Modest
228 HP 88 DEF 158 SPA 18 SPD 20 SPE
So I looked at my Sylveon and wanted to be able to survive some pretty strong hits so I started with Overheat from Charizard Y in the Sun. Using this Site, I was able to find that no investment I am able to possibly survive but my odds were not very good so I played with the HP first.
I found that 200 would do the job so I decided to move on from there.
Kangaskhan was the next threat as it was the most popular mega.
Return from an adamant Mega Kanga ruins my day so I needed to pump up my defenses. I found 44 helped but I needed to be bulkier so I beefed my HP up to 228, Still not enough. So I added more to my defenses. I found 88 was the best I could do without sacrificing my SPA so there is not much I can do for steel types or other super effective hits.
Next I worked on my offensive build. With the 158 I am able to one shot many Pokes with Hyper Beam if needed and 2 shot many other pokes with Hyper Voice. as well as have a wider coverage with Shadow Ball and Psyshock.
The 18 into special attack was just for extra bulk to eat up Sludge Bombs and Flash Cannons. and the 20 speed is to speed creep other Sylveons
So in closing the build you saw was to most likely survive something Hydreigon couldn't normally survive, or to survive something that has been giving your team trouble.
I would suggest going onto the damage calculator and just play around with your Pokemon and just learn. Remember to set your level to level 50 and put your opponents EV's all at 252 so you know what the max they can do to you is. I hope this helped
Varied ev spreads are really only if you're trying to counter a certain pokemon. For example, on talonflame, you need 172 speed evs to outspeed a Jolly Mega Kangaskhan (+Nature 100 Base). Most of it is speed as damage is randomized by a little bit.
You can use this tool: here
If you input adamant Talonflame and Jolly Kangaskhan, then put 252 speed evs into Kangaskhan and 172 speed evs into Talonflame, you'll see that Talonflame has 168 speed and Mega-kang has 167. This would allow Talonflame to get an attack off, or u-turn out, before Kang attacks (unless he sucker punches)
Here's another example:
A lot of Rotoms use this EV Spred : 252 Hp/ 252 spA/ 4 Speed
Why Speed? So you can outrun rotoms who use this ev spread: 252 Hp / 252 spDef / 4 spA <== Specially defensive Rotom.
Now, you could "outmeta" your opponent and put 8 speed evs so you can outrun the 4 speed rotom. (I use attacker rotom with 252 Hp / 56 spA / 200 Speed)
Most of it is speed, because damage is randomed by a bit.
This team is for the gen 3 ou metagame NOT gen 7.
It's a modern version of what's known as a superman team. Basically gen 3 was before stealth rock, and due to the lower power levels, the games generally involved lots of switching. As a result Spikes are an incredibly important part of the metagame. Superman teams get their name from the fact that at least 3 but generally 4 or even 5 members of the team are immune to spikes via a flying typing or levitate. This allows the team to just not care about opposing spikes instead of putting in effort and wasting team slots to combat them with rapid spinners or magneton. At the same time, Skarmory + Gengar provides a solid spikes core to use to help wear down the opposing team so that Gengar can sweep in the late game. The basic philosophy is to spend the game enacting your own strategy as opposed to reacting to your opponent's. Overall just a very reliable and powerful team to use in the gen 3 ou metagame.
I should mention I can't take credit for this team. The original superman was created by Veteran in Love, and this lineup was put together by a lesser known but incredibly talented player named Ibidem. Most of the move sets and EV spreads have been edited by myself however, and I do believe this to be the best version of the team.
Just letting you know you can do this yourself here. Go to Smogon's Moveset Ranking and just test some of the more common threats in the calculator. Not hard at all. I'll do one, mostly because I'm interested in seeing just how bulky AV Tyranitar would look like.
252 SpA Charizard Focus Blast vs. 88 HP / 168 SpD Assault Vest Tyranitar in Sand: 180-212 (49.5 - 58.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Looks like it can tank a Focus Blast from Charizard pretty damn well. This should let it switch into a Fire Blast and then OHKO with Stone Edge next turn after tanking Focus Blast.
252 SpA Charizard Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Tyranitar in Sand: 152-180 (37.6 - 44.5%) -- 2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
If you run full investment, you can tank two Focus Blasts back to back (which is kind of insane).
These calcs are cool, but cool is all they are. This thing definitely isn't viable, because if you run full SpD investment then your offenses aren't strong enough, and it still gets murdered by things like Keldeo (Secret Sword targets Def, not SpD) and Greninja (it can't take Specs Hydro Pump several times). You don't get to run Stealth Rock either, because it's an AV set, and again, you won't be killing much of anything without invested offenses.
EDIT: That's actually regular Charizard. Much less impressive now that I've realized that. However, I linked you to the calculator so you should be able to run the correct calcs yourself and figure out if you want it on your team (you probably don't).
I use it on my VGC Team, and it works pretty well. It's situational at best and relies on a bit of luck (not getting faked out), but I do carry quick guard on my pokemon, so it's fine at best.
Here's a replay:
http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/vgc2014-114315231
It's suprisingly not that easy to stop though. Fake out is the only true counter since 90% of the time you protect on the sweeper. Safeguard prevents any sleep/paralysis shenanigans, and it's only countered by priority - and even that depends on the sweeper.
Copy-pasted from another post.
Test teams and practice on http://pokemonshowdown.com. Please ignore some of the assholes who play here.
Read this http://www.smogon.com/dp/articles/intro_comp_pokemon. Lots of useful stuff on Smogon.
Use pokemon you like. Everything is viable in some tier (except metapod, and magikarp, and cosmog, etc.)
Try a variety of formats to find one you like. VGC and OU are the most popular ones just to start you off.
Go to r/stunfisk for better competitive advice.
Be polite to everyone for gifts from RNGesus.
But most importantly, have fun. Unless you want to play stall.
Yes, and if you use the same passwords on other sites (especially your email account!) you should change those too. Ideally you'd use a password manager like KeePassXC or one of those mentioned in the post to generate and keep track of long, random passwords for each site you use.
One thing I haven't seen anyone mention yet: EV spreads. Generally what I do is either max out 2 of em (Health and defense, Speed and Attack, etc.) and then I start to look at the pokemon that usually KO the mon I'm working on. Then I use this: http://pokemonshowdown.com/damagecalc/ to run damage calculations on those common situations. After that, I mess around with the numbers so that I can find a more specialized spread.

Using this I got:
>+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Venusaur: 298-351 (81.8 - 96.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
So not quite
Example: You want to play a bulky Starmie (with focus sash, but that's irrelevant), but you are afraid of Garchomp. A bulky Starmie can be 2HKOed by Dragon Claw ( 252 Atk Garchomp Dragon Claw vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Starmie: 151-178 (46.6 - 54.9%) -- 64.8% chance to 2HKO ) so you can not switch in on it if it outspeeds you with a Choice Scarf.
Now you have to play aroung with your EVs. Let's start with putting 100 Def EVs on Starmie:
252 Atk Garchomp Dragon Claw vs. 252 HP / 100 Def Starmie: 135-159 (41.6 - 49%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Oh, it works! Great! This is just an example of how to calculate the EVs you want. If you want to make a perfect EV spread, you have to calculate the damage for most Pokemon of the meta-game and think about if it is necessary to survive a hit from that specific Pokemon. If you want to make it a little easier for you, go on Smogon.com - they have calculated everything and they even have analyses for the VGC meta game.

To start off, you should pick a format that you'd like to play, such Battle Spot Singles on cartridge or OU in Pokemon Showdown.
Smogon is an excellent resource for finding sets for Pokemon, what counter them, and what make good teammates.
http://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/
Even if you want to play on cartridge, I'd still recommend checking out Pokemon Showdown, as you can easily try out different Pokemon is many different formats, including the ones you'd find on cartridge.
In terms of team building, you can start off by choosing your favorite Pokemon, and then find teammates that cover its weaknesses. As an example, if you really like Decidueye, you might want to run a water type Pokemon to defeat the fire types that threaten it. From there, you could have a fire type to help cover your water type Pokemon's weaknesses. This forms a "Water-Grass-Fire" type core; cores are kind of like basic building blocks for teams as they have innate synergy with each other, definitely worth reading about.
You can export Pokemon sets from Smogon and import it into Pokemon Showdown for some quick builds. Though once you find some Pokemon you like, you should read about breeding, Effort Values, and Individual Values if you'd like to use them on cartridge.
Something that's always worked for me at school is going to the damage calculator, and then clicking on the play button from there. At my school, this page is blocked http://pokemonshowdown.com/secure but the actual website is not.
NU (Never Used) and OU (Over Used) are two tiers on the Smogon ladder which is sort of an unofficial ruleset used by competitive battlers, with rules decided more or less by the community as a whole. If you'd like to try playing around the ladders and get a feel what it's like I would recommend a simulator rather than cartridge since cartridge it's hard to find people to battle and battles are very slow. Pokemon Showdown (http://pokemonshowdown.com/) and Pokemon Online are the two most popular battle simulators with pretty large communities to battle against although the communities are somewhat smaller at lower tiers.
Also yes it's definitely something others do. Bulbapedia doesn't give you any unfair information about the game; it just tells you what a Pokemons Base Stats are and their possible moveset. It's definitely a tool you want to use as a beginner since learning by trial and error what's faster than something else or what can kill other stuff is a very slow process.
Not my battle, but had to share it anyways since it features some friends of mine.

Note: With Victory Star, Blue Flare is 93.5% accurate.
Here's a damage calculator so you can see for yourself how much iv's matter. You will lose games you could have won if your pokemon were supposed to speed tie. Eventually though you will lose games you could have won because your opponents pokemon did just enough damage and you didn't have max iv's.
Would you really go into battle without every advantage possible? You can try playing on pokemon showdown if you're too impatient for breeding or want to test which pokemon you want to breed.
Smogon is what I use. As a dude in /r/pokemontrades said, you can also use pokemonshowdown.
Hope that helps!
There's no built-in way to play comp in the games themselves; you have to look for people online or at a convention for experienced battlers. Barring that, Pokemon Showdown is the most popular and easiest way to have competitive battles online. It offers a lot of freedom in teambuilding, among other things.
http://www.smogon.com/ Smogon has a bunch of good resources and forums for competitive battling and they have a battle simulator called Pokemon Showdown, which has rooms for different tiers and a room for wifi battles/breeding. http://pokemonshowdown.com/
Just general suggestions (don't play singles too often), Aerodactyl should be Jolly instead of Naive, and I believe (you can run damage calcs here) that Eviolite actually typically works better with HP investment first.
You should EV train your team to survive certain hits as well as to deal the maximum damage, using damage calculators is the best way to do this, remember if you are playing on cartridge set the levels to 50. Also, watching YouTube videos about EV training can help your understanding. Here is a great on by Alex Ogloza. Mind you it is a bit long but worth the watch
See, I was hoping that's what you were talking about. I gotcha:
http://pokemonshowdown.com/damagecalc/
It's a site people use. Type in any combo you want for any pokemon, and it'll do the work for you. Nobody actually knows how to do all that in their head.
Here, use this:
http://pokemonshowdown.com/damagecalc/
It's a damage calculator, and you will be able to use it in the future so you don't need to wait for other people to answer.
Also, the answers to your question are :
4 Atk Hydreigon Superpower vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 328-386 (50.3 - 59.2%) -- 78.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
4 Atk Hydreigon Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 328-386 (45.9 - 54%) -- 3.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
4+ Atk Hydreigon Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 360-424 (50.4 - 59.3%) -- 80.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
4+ Atk Hydreigon Superpower vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 360-424 (55.2 - 65%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
So yes it is possible depending on the opposing blissey's EV spread, I gave you max defense/Hp calcs and max def/Sp.Def calcs to show you how much damamge you would be doing.
Don't run a +Attack nature, it isn't going to help much as you only have one move and not much investment into that stat. Remember, you could always use life orb to help improve your damage output on the physical side of the spectrum, but you won't do as much on the special side. Expert belt could also work, but it probably wont be as good as a life orb, as the coverage on Hydreigon isn't the for super effective-ness. If you want a replacement for Fire blast you could always try out something like Earth power, Surf or maybe even Hyper Voice(not the best choice, but can hit behind substitutes). Really though, you should be pretty good with Fire Blast, as it provides super effective coverage.
> I believe that at Level 100 each 4 EVs result in a stat increase of 1, meaning at Level 50, 8 EVs are required to increase a stat by 1.
EVs add up with IVs. They do not calculate separately. Therefore, 4 EVs and 1 IV give you 1 stat point at lv. 50.
> Wouldn't a 250/250/8 spread be more efficient than 252/252/4?
This depends on the stats of your pokemon at lv. 50. I recommend playing around in the teambuilder section of http://pokemonshowdown.com/ to focus which EVs matter. It's the easiest way to determine if 4 extra EVs give you a stat point or not.
Good luck!
I personally disagree that IVs are the least important element in a pokemon's stats - I mean, they're not the most important thing, but those 31 points can make a noticeable difference when you're battling. The difference between a 20-something or 31 IV pokemon might not be too significant, but between 31 and 2-3, you might miss out on some important KOs or take more damage, and every little bit counts in competitive play.
If you're finding your bred pokemon lacking, you can check out the damage output on your planned pokemon beforehand with a calculator like this one. You can fiddle with the IVs to see just how they'll affect certain matchups. I find break my team very helpful for determining the amount of damage you'll both deal and receive from prominent threats, as well.
You can create charts in reddit with the use of the vertical bar. Basically each cell is separated by a "|". The only trick is that for reddit to know that you're making a chart, you need to have the formatting line in between the 1st and 2nd rows, which is done with colons and dashes in the each cell. These format the cell. ":" is default (usually left justified), ":-" left, "-:" is right and ":-:" is center.
Example, the following:
| Chart|Extreme Speed | Vacuum Wave | Strongest | |:|-:|:-|:-:| |Rotom-W |18 - 21.3%|28.9 - 34.2%|28.9 - 34.2% (VW)| |Aegislash*|0 |0 |40.1 - 47.5% (DP)
Creates:
Chart | Extreme Speed | Vacuum Wave | Strongest |
---|---|---|---|
Rotom-W | 18 - 21.3% | 28.9 - 34.2% | 28.9 - 34.2% (VW) |
Aegislash* | 0 | 0 | 40.1 - 47.5% (DP) |
To get all the numbers I just used http://pokemonshowdown.com/damagecalc/ and assumed the most common set.
Nobody in the competitive community cares. We all play on http://pokemonshowdown.com where your pokemon have perfect IVs and movesets anyway, i guess thats cheating to you. Im not going to waste my time grinding eggs for 3 weeks just to adjust my team. Id rather spend time battling which I find fun.

First question: what kind of battles do you like playing?
There are essentially two sides of competitive battling currently (at least, ones that have a significant number of people playing them)
VGC (Video Game Championships) rules are double battles in which each player selects 4 of their 6 pokemon. The list of allowable pokemon is set each year by the official pokemon company. This is what people play in tournaments, and a lot of people play in wifi battles.
Smogon (a longstanding competitive pokemon community) rules are primarily based around 6v6 singles. The list of available pokemon and other rules are voted on by the community, and things that are deemed too good are "banned" to a higher "tier". (I can explain that more if you want). This is what people play on pokemon showdown primarily, and also on wifi to some extent, although there is no ladder for 6v6 rating battles.
The roles you want to fill will vary quite a bit depending on which of these formats you prefer, as well as the pokemon that fill them. Both are a lot of fun, but I would recommend concentrating on just one to start as there's a lot to learn.
For custom EV Spreads, I go to this website first
I set the level, set the max speed. And for the custom box, I input max speed, nature and give it stage one to see the speeds of Choice Scarf users.
So at max speed after a Dragon Dance, Scrafty will have a speed of 354 and outspeed Thundurus-I and Tornadus-I, who have 353.
So after looking at that, I'd start to think Max Speed or 248 Speed is the way to go.
Then I'd go to the One vs All section of the Damage calculator:
Experiment with different items and different EVs. To see what'll kill what.
And I find out 252+ Life Orb +1 Dragon Dance is what it takes to guarantee an OHKO on AV Metagross (but not Mega), Porygon-2, Slowking, Scolipede, Beedrill and Feraligatr.
So for Scrafty in OU anyways, the generic 252/252+ is best.
I really like this calculator, I have been using it for a while and it's fantastic. It's nice to see that I'm not the only person on this subreddit who use this calc.
I remember trying to compare it with EV spreads from popular websites and it sometimes gave me better EV spreads - it also makes my life easier as it finds the minimum required EVs, instead of adding and subtracting HP/Def/Sp. Def just to see what combo would do the least damage.
I mean it's not really significant but the people who believe that you need to catch only flawless legends should use this calculator. Also the Honko's calculator doesn't have the right damage formula for Parental Bond, and it's funny because most of the people who EV their Pokémon in VGC usually take only M-Kanga into consideration.
I thought it was probably be the case because nature cause 10% change, so they will have a larger impact the higher the stat is. Then I just fiddled around with the evs on showdown's damage calc until I got the numbers right.
As /u/DarkZombieKing said, Pokemon Showdown is great for teambuilding. You can make any team you wish and battle it there. It'll be helpful for testing your in-game competitive team before you dedicate the time into making it.
I just used the modifications in a couple of battles and won the majority so thank you so much especially for the change in EVs on Aggron and Florges. I've only had one complete battle so far against a trick room team if you want to watch it :)
also if you use the showdown! calculator you can plug in the speed evs and everything that you want and compare it to a specific pokemon. If there is only one threat that you want to out speed, then this is probably better, but the first one will compare your pokemon to all of the other pokemon
Hmm... It depends really what kind of role you want it to fulfill. I'll assume you want to use it in smogon OU.
Timid @Life Orb
SeedFlare
LeechSeed/Toxic
~~HiddenPower: Fire/Ground~~
Psychic/Protect/DazzlingG/HealingWish/Airslash
Once again it really depends on what kind of role you need it to fulfill. Don't be afraid to use your main stab even if anticipating a switch. It still hurts things. ~~If you are worried about Sp.D Heatrans go with HP Ground, it will do the same job with almost equal efficacy. Use this to find out yourself: http://pokemonshowdown.com/damagecalc/.~~
Oh and try to stay away from priority moves...
252+ Atk Choice Band Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Shaymin: 162-192 (40 - 47.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
edit: I completely misread your post. In that case, i would go for a solid Subst. support role here:
Timid @ Leftovers 252Spe, 252HP
LeechSeed/Toxic
SeedFlare
Substitute/Protect
Airslash
Really it's up to you. After running some damage calculations, the investment in HP reduces the damage it takes by about 10% per hit, which helps a lot, but the Sp.Def investment only takes the damage taken down by about 3 percent as opposed to the Hp investment. It's up to you in the end, if you read the hp stat was useless than I guess trust that. I wouldn't mind seeing the sources for that though, if you still have them with you. Also, here is the damage stat I was using, in case your interested in it: http://pokemonshowdown.com/damagecalc/
Follow the guides posted by /u/dsf192 & /u/evinchains But how I started was by looking at videos from youtubers like shofu, xenon3120, etc. to get an idea about the Meta game, what is good, what is bad, etc. Then I played a bit on Pokemon Showdown to test some Pokemons and get some experience. Then I went to /r/pokemongiveaway & /r/breedingdittos to get some breeding leftovers and a 6IV ditto. I started breeding a lot of the same Pokemon to give back to the community from /r/Pokemongiveaway and traded the perfect pokemons at /r/pokemontrades to get more and more. Now I got a lot of Pokemon on my game, but still play on showdown to get more experience with different sets, pokemons, metagames, etc.
Look here and search for the Pokemons that you want to outspeed. Then go here and see how many EVs you need to oustpeed that Pokemon.
If you want to outspeed Espeon (110 Base Speed) before you Unburden activates you need atleast 192 Speed EVs to outspeed if Espeon has max speed and is Timid.
For Mega-Pinsir (105 Base Speed) you need atleast 152 Speed EVs if Pinsir is Jolly and has max speed EVs. For Adamant Pinsir with Max speed you will need atleast 40 Speed EVs
4 Speed EVs with outspeed 100 Base Speed Pokemons without an Speed increasing Nature (Charizard X & Y, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Medicham, Flygon, Salamence, etc.)
You will 112 Speed EVs if you want to outspeed 100 Base Speed Pokemons with a Timid, Jolly, etc Nature :)
i assumed everyone already knew how knock off worked and thats just how the calc displays it (low kick is stronger after one knock off)
edit
interestingly it now shows:
>252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Forretress: 110-133 (31 - 37.5%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
and im not sure what factors changed
edit
oh had wrong nature in first two calcs on forre
I would consult this guide when team building, it's a list of all the speed tiers, you firstly need to build your team around things that are key threats. For example ludicolo with 196 speed evs under the rain will out run neutral scarfed base 100 pokes.
This means that you can spare some for bulk and offense. You also need to consider how much offensive investment you need, 252+ will give 2HKOs on most rotom-w with giga drain, yet ice beam will OHKO garchomp/salamence with very little investment.
That is why you need to consult the most used pokemon lists then use this damage calc to create mostly optimal EV spreads by seeing what you cannot survive and what you can.
First off, don't start with UU. UU is a lot more complex and can make people frustrated (I.E me) due to the sheer number of pokemon that are good there. Also your going to have to branch out from your super defensive play style. Unless your going for a stall and want the opponent to rip their hair out, your going to have a hard time. Aerodactyl is really strong and can be used pretty well in OU. From what it looks like your trying to plan out a team just by using the pokemon x and y game. Take a look at these links: Pokemon Showdown and Break my team. This should help you get started on making an OU team. After you have mastered OU, you can move to UU and be a lot more familiar with the tactics there. Good luck on making your team!
Damage = ((((2 * Level / 5 + 2) * AttackStat * AttackPower / DefenseStat) / 50) + 2) * STAB * Weakness/Resistance * RandomNumber / 100
You can either plug it into something like Excel and do it yourself.
Or you can use one of the convenient calculators like:
In regards to the importance of a 31 IV stat i've done some calculations (These apply to a neutral natured 0 SpA EV Mega Absol):
0 SpA IV: 0 SpA Mega Absol Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Ferrothorn: 280-332 (79.5 - 94.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
15 SpA IV: 0 SpA Mega Absol Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Ferrothorn: 296-352 (84 - 100%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
20 SpA IV: 0 SpA Mega Absol Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Ferrothorn: 300-356 (85.2 - 101.1%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO
25 SpA IV: 0 SpA Mega Absol Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Ferrothorn: 308-364 (87.5 - 103.4%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
31 SpA IV: 0 SpA Mega Absol Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Ferrothorn: 316-372 (89.7 - 105.6%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
You can play around with it here.

Doing this like our ol' Gogat did:
Book - The Art of War / Beyond Good and Evil / Being and Time. (I'm a major philosophy geek and always have something to say about the state of modern politics and morality).
Movie - Mongol - The Rise to Power of Genghis Khan / Red Cliff / Red Cliff II (Military strategy is also my thing (actually my greatest interest by far), and Genghis Khan was the coolest guy to have ever lived.
TV - I don't actually watch much TV. I basically only watch documentaries, whether they be a series like David Attenborough's nature stuff, or one-off docs on anything that catches my eye.
I use this app, which also doubles as an IV checker: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.blachocolat.poketools2
I honestly have a really hard time with the showdown calculator on mobile, so I generally use this
I use this app on android which does everything I need it to for editing/creating images. The font list feels system default so it you can install more fonts to your phone you can have whatever you want
On Showdown or other simulators it's as simple as dragging the IV bars to the one suitable for that type. The ideal HP Ice pokemon has 31/31/31/31/31/30 in HP/Att/Def/SpA/SpD/Spe respectively. However now on HP charts 31 means any odd number and 30 is any even number, depends if you want a pokemon as perfect as it can be. Also the base power for Hidden Power is fixed at 60 (Unlike previous generations)
Find or trade pokemon with 30 in the stat needed for the HP. Power Items (Band, Anklet etc) are guaranteed to pass down the IV in their repsective stat of the parent its equipped to and Destiny Knot will pass 5 IVs from the parents 12 total IVs. Have one parent with the perfect stats (31 all round/the 5 desired stats) and the other with the 30IV in what you need. Breed until you get perfect egg and by talking to the IV checker and the HP checker.
Give this a look maybe, they probably explain it better than me: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/696959-pokemon-x/68386193
I am looking for someone female to share a room at the European International championships. You can see the room here. I have already booked it for the 8th - 11th. PM me if you are interested.
You need access to another DS + a copy of the original black or white. Check out this link for further instructions: Here
I haven't personally attempted to breed for a Hidden Power myself yet. As far as I know though, Hidden Power Fire can never have an uneven speed IV. This page is pretty helpful, though obviously it was written for Gen V so you can ignore the stuff about base power.
Pretty sure max hp spdef always survives <em>after rocks</em>
Do not want to sound rude or something similar, the web seems good, but the colors white background and yellow font make it kinda hard to look at it. With pages like this one you can see what colors match better with each other. Otherwise, great web, thanks for the content!
I'd love to see this in action! I'm not too familiar with Ubers, but he does sound like a pleasant surprise for opponents..
You could download WebcamMax and record some battles on PO, if that's your bread and butter. Keep us updated with his success :)
People used to recommend a browser extension called Stylish back in the day for Showdown tweaks and general website readability, but it was revealed that it was tracking the browsing history of users after it was acquired by a web data company. These days, I would recommend Dark Reader for your case, which also allows switching a website to be light-themed. I use it quite a bit for various websites, and it works fantastically by default on most.
I'm just getting back in as well. There are tons of resources on Smogon (Nugget Bridge is another option, but I'm not familiar with it). Read up on the format (speed tiers, threats, etc) and start formulating a team. You can also throw a sample team into Showdown and get firsthand experience of the metagame.
You can play in Rating Battles and Online Competitions on your 3DS. The official manual from Nintendo explains how this works in detail.
You can play on Pokémon Showdown, a web-based battle simulator. Many people prefer this method, because you don't have to spend time training your pokémon like you would in-game.
Hey everyone. I'm new to battling and just assembled an okay-ish team in RU when I ran across a really annoying Harvest Trevenant. I know my team isn't perfect, but what can I do to avoid this situation again?
I'll be frank: No, a team consisting of Blissey, Starmie, Weavile, Dragonite, Arcanine, and Gengar would not function very spectacularly in the current OU metagame. As has been said, Chansey outclasses Blissey due to the Eviolite item, but even so, the pink blobs don't fit on an otherwise offense-focused team because they have zero offensive presence once on the field, putting the momentum of battle in your opponent's favor. Arcanine has a very small defensive niche in the OU tier, but it's incredibly difficult to use, and more often than not Heatran is the better defensive Fire-type. Starmie, Weavile, Dragonite, and Gengar are all fairly good Pokémon in their own rights, though their synergy together is another matter. I'd recommend taking a gander at this resource guide to familiarize yourself with the OU metagame and the concepts surrounding it, then practicing on Pokémon Showdown!'s OU ladder with someone else's team before building your own or spending the time breeding in-game. Best of luck, and I hope you have fun! :)
You can see much more info about moves like Grass Knot on Showdown Dex (yeah it's not Smogon Dex, but Showdown is Smogon's official battle simulator so it's related)
Also, not sure how many of you use Bulbapedia, but this website is fantastic if you want comprehensive explanations about moves, abilities, and pretty much everything that's related to Pokemon
Why do people in UU do that? Just Forfeit for no reason?? had another one
http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/uu-196121889
And just because i got a good read that 2 were weak to fighting he left. Is this common?
http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/uu-196106873
Played bad, definitely didn't deserve the win :/ not sure how i feel about that one. I could have probably won if i played just Amazingly XD but i don't think there is any way i could have won without that forefit
http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/uu-195919803
I did get to one today, It was a bad loss, I understand now that i need Ice beam on Blast, i think i could have won that with it but alas learning hurts right :P
Intentionally avoiding stuff like tiers, EVs, and natures is like running in a race but everyone is allowed to use both feet, while you have to hop on one foot to the finish line. You don't have to hop on one foot--you just do it voluntarily. Do you really think you'd have any success?
If you don't feel like EV training, go to Pokemon Showdown. When teambuilding there, it literally takes 3 seconds to do EVs and natures.
What is ridiculous about tiers?
Edit: You can't have stone edge on Typhlosion. Also you can't have the 8 extra EVs in the third stat, only 4. If you want help, please make an effort so that it is easier for others to give help, ie playtesting.
Invaluable resource is invaluable.
Pertaining the EVs in Defense, is as /u/DBUniversity stated. Salamence for instance has 331 HP with 0 EVs and 31 IVs. This odd numbered HP value means when it does switch in to Stealth Rock, it has 76% remaining HP rather than 75% with an even numbered HP. This is especially useful for Talonflame and Volcarona as they will have 51% HP after Stealth Rock, allowing them one more switch in.
Back then Genesect was around, EVs would be placed on SpD for equal defense Pokémon so the common Special Attacking set would get an Attack boost instead.
IF you want to make a spread, use this tool: http://pokemonshowdown.com/damagecalc/
And find the specific benchmarks you want your Pokemon to beat. For example, 116 Spa EVs on non-hindering nature Mega-Garchomp will always OHKO standard Ferrothorn.

This is how my team is supposed to work. I've been toying with it a little just testing it out on that account. I like to use strategies that a unexpected that no one sees coming. If only I could understand with the opponent was typing haha.
Battle Format:
There are a variety of different rules depending on which community you are going for. 'Smogon' is the most popular fan community with its own tiering and clauses which is different from the official tournaments such as VGC.
Pokemon Simulators are used to focus on the battles without the need to train, catch, breed, and find items. Pokemon Showdown is Smogon's official simulator.
i'm using > as a greater than sign so i was saying sucker punch is better than earthquake. of couse if you corrected me on that, you already knew that so why did you have EQ to begin with? (also, as a general rule, using EQ on something that doesn't have STAB or mold breaker is a bad idea)
ferro should probably be 252 hp/252 attack. also bisharp should be 252 speed/252 attack since it's kind of frail anyway. alternatively, you could use an ev spread of 86 HP / 236 attack / 188 speed on bisharp. that ev spread has a 94% chance to live garchomp's earthquake at full health and will outspeed 252 speed modest tyranitar. the downside is that you only ohko salamence about 93% of the time. coincidentally, it also hits a life orb number. i'd recommend tinkering with your evs, if only to get an idea of what you can and cannot live or KO. use this calculator: http://pokemonshowdown.com/damagecalc/ although VGC sets aren't programmed in and you have to manually set the stage to doubles and level 50. i can think of a better spread for garchomp besides the standard 252/252 spread, but i won't divulge it right now and i think you can probably find a better one as well. to quote sun tsu: "It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win and lose in equal measure; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle."
edit: rotom-h should probably be more offensive. a good speed to hit would be around 110, or look into interesting things to outspeed under tailwind. also, make your HP even in case of the rare super fang so you eat the sitrus before taking another hit.
You should use this damage calc, it's more up to date.
I'm no expert on defensive pokes for single matches, so I have no clue. You could use eviolite chansey, hippowdon, as comparisons as well.
You can type "/rating" or "/rating <username>" in a battle or in any chat in PS. The first will show yours, while the second can be used to check anyone's ratings. There's also this ladder page which will show the top ranked players on each official ladder.
http://pokemonshowdown.com/damagecalc/ Take a poke, set ivs/natures/evs so that it does a round number of damage. Then you can apply stat boosts and stuff.
by round number, I mean 20%, 25%, 50%, etc
Any choice item is *1.5 to the relevant stat, Band is Attack, Specs is Special Attack, and Scarf is Speed. Similarly life orb is *1.3. say you had an attack stat of 218. A choice band would increase it to 327, a life orb would increase it to 283.4, while a scarf or specs wouldn't increase it at all. The expert belt boosts super effective moves by a factor of 1.2, so the attack stat would be 261.6 when using a super effective move. Pokemon have their stats increase by stages, to a maximum of six. For every stat, but evasion and accuracy, the multiplication is as follows:
+1 = * 1.5
+2 = * 2
+3 = * 2.5
+4 = * 3
+5 = * 3.5
+6 = * 4
I don't know of a stat calculator that includes items in its calculations, but really, the boosts from items is easily calculable. Damage calculators however have the option of adding an item, ability, weather, entry hazards, status(read: BURN) and screens when calculating damage.
Tyranitar (F) @ Tyranitarite
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 48 HP / 252 Atk / 208 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
Assuming perfect IVs (just run more speed otherwise), this outruns scarf Garchomp after 2 dragon dances, and Greninja after one. Also any mega tyranitar can easily take 2 u-turns from genesect if it doesnt get a download boost:
4 Atk Genesect U-turn vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Mega Tyranitar: 138-164 (40.4 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
and fully invested attack easily KO's at +1:
+1 252 Atk Mega Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Genesect: 303-357 (107 - 126.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
But if it got the boost both times you would need 188HP and 208Def EVS to live them:
+1 4 Atk Genesect U-turn vs. 188 HP / 208 Def Mega Tyranitar: 162-192 (41.7 - 49.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Which leaves you too few EVs to be able to outspeed it after boosting twice.
In future you can refer to this.
