Not so easy. Netflix is really good at blocking VPNs. My NordVPN is hit and miss, and the biggest player out there (Private Internet Access) has given up on playing cat and mice with Netflix network teams.
VPN is very worth it you want to watch Terrace house. ExpressVPN , as of 7/13/2019, unlocks Netflix and is what I currently use. Tokyo servers are good enough to stream it all in HD no problem, I live in SF Bay area. Spending 13 bucks a month just to watch Terrace house might be a little steep but if you think about it, in 2019 you really really should be using a VPN anyways. Cheers! BTW this seasons already great so far. The cast is interesting enough. One thing I kinda got annoyed by was how often some members left and went on vacations on previous seasons but this season so far everybody is pretty much home so you get a lot of full house interactions.
Kantaro: The Sweet Tooth Salaryman
https://www.netflix.com/title/80175348
"Elite publishing sales rep Kantaro wraps up his client visits in record time so he can secretly pursue his quest to indulge in the tastiest of sweets."
Kentaro first appears in episode 4 and it took me a while to get used to him, because he actually talks and plays a character that is quite different from his personality on Terrace House. The show is very fun-hearted and light and with many amazing shots of delicious Japanese desserts, I recommend you check it out regardless of Kentaro's participation.
Ikr! I prefer that with all my shows. Otherwise I just binge watch whole season as soon as I start. Good thing that I do have a VPN so I try to limit myself by accessing different Netflix regions and this way I can think before moving to the next episode lol. Only problem is that Netflix isn't so friendly to VPN users. I just switched to NordVPN and didn't run into any issues so far though. But yeah, I still binged to the foot bath episode lol.
Nordvpn hit or miss? Clear them cookies. I make a habit to clear cookies on Netflix when I switch countries and have yet to encounter the warning telling me to turnoff my VPN. Yes I too use NordVPN.
Also if you watching something and then immediately switch locations in less than 15 minutes ur login gets flagged, that's how they know u be VPN bypassing because no one can travel from country to country in < 15 min
I can confirm. ExpressVPN is amazing and the support is very fast. I study foreign languages and I like changing servers on the go to see content in different languages and practice. I strongly recommend it.
Just use VPN Gate Viewer from any android device (or chromebook that supports android) coupled with OpenVPN. Each time you go to view the show, import the CSV from VPN Gate Viewer to get an updated VPN from Japan and picking the one that has the highest bandwidth. Very easy to do and you don't have to deal with setting up and changing a VPN on your router.
I managed to find their Anchor page and had to search on that one for the RSS feed for a proper podcast app. I'm too polite to post my thoughts I have on the whole Anchor/Spotify/App-specific podcast "ecosystem."
I only just reached the part where the new members were introduced and I thought "Wow Frances kinda looks like Tegan and Sara" and then they start playing Closer by Tegan and Sara 😂
I typed in part of the title on Google, “毎日おかず” and this link on Amazon came up: https://www.amazon.co.jp/365%E6%97%A5%E3%81%AE%E6%AF%8E%E6%97%A5%E3%81%8A%E3%81%8B%E3%81%9A-Best630-GAKKEN-HIT-MOOK/dp/4056105243
There seems to be many different versions!
Actually, narcissistic personality disorder is a mental illness.
I know there is a stigma and a negative connotation to the words "mental illness" but make no mistake… it is a very real condition, and Cheri does show a lot of these symptoms.
I did see this article recently about Netflix starting a new translation service. So if anyone here speaks/writes/reads Japanese and English you can apply there and make some money too, not sure if you'll be able to pick the show you translate though.
VPN Gate Connector seems to work for me. You might have scroll through the connection options because the first Japanese connections don't always work. Only downside is that it berates you with ads but you can get out of them with the back arrow.
Using a VPN is surprisingly simple but as a concept seems intimidating. If you're familiar with super basic program installation, or app downloading if you're on a mobile device, you'll have no issues. You essentially install it, pick a server in Japan and press a button to connect. The hard part is finding one that will actually unblock Netflix japan. I use ExpressVPN on Japan server 2 but it's not exactly cheap. If you do go with a cheaper option than check your expectations. Many free VPNs will connect you to other countries but not actually provide any privacy or security features which are the main purposes of a VPN. Nord VPN can also a reliable option for watching Netflix in Japan but again, not free.
Big Brother is a game show where viewers are closed off to the outside world, which increases paranoia. The game also thrives on people being inauthentic and deceitful to begin with, in order to further their position in the game. Although, there are some reality shows more similar to Terrace House that have contestants filmed 24/7 (e.g., The Real World). But even in those shows, people live under much stricter rules and regulations since they are being filmed all the time. This is naturally going to have an impact on how they act, especially over time. In contrast, Terrace House members (for the most part) live like regular people, except for the few hours/day when they're filmed. Also, editors/producers always have the power to edit the story in a way that pushes their narrative regardless, and The Real World for example has still faced a lot of criticism for manipulating the story of the show.
Anki, the app you download for your phone or laptop. I've only ever used it on my macs. They say here: https://apps.ankiweb.net:
> Anki 2.0 was the previous stable release. No further updates are expected, as the toolkit it was built on has been discontinued. From Feb 1 2020, Anki 2.0 will no longer be able to sync or download add-ons from AnkiWeb.
I don't know off the top of my head but you may try TuneFind: http://www.tunefind.com/
There's also a Spotify playlist that someone made with most, if not all, of the songs from the show: https://open.spotify.com/user/wolfbeard/playlist/4K0nbgALPgUENnwRLZfL5Y
What is your thought on Heisig's method Remembering The Kanji? I exclusively use his method to learn kanji (through the website kanji.koohii.com/)
I think it's easier to progress in this method because Wakikani might make you learn kanji without explaining all its building blocks before.
http://www.vpngate.net/en/ is one I've seen recommended and tried for myself for the first time. It doesn't seem t work for mobile but if you use the Softether option for Windows and follow the instructions it should work for the Netflix app. I'm not sure how it fairs for the actual website though.
I'll be streaming them all tomorrow starting at 8pm GMT (Noon Pacific) at https://twoseven.xyz/bN4toHqq=O . They are BxGND ep. 12 and 61, B&GITC ep. 19, AS part 2 ep. 5, OND part 2 Ep. 2 and part 6 ep. 9. I ran the marathon last year as well and it's ridiculous string of bad Christmas eve dates and rejections.
Closing Door also one of the best cuts ever at Christmas eve, but I shan't be streaming that.
I got a light gray one on Amazon last winter! It doesn’t have a zipper and the cuffs at the end of the sleeves are kind of thick, but it is the best blanket/jacket to laze around in 😴
I also hate Duolingo-like apps. But I have to recommend Human Japanese, cause I think it's the best for beginners. It's like a textbook but in app format, so it's really interactive, with a lot of audio clips and a little test at the end of each chapter. There's a free trial version with the first couple of chapters so you can try before buying and there's a beginner and intermediate level. I'd say that by the end of it you're somewhere between N5 and N4.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.braksoftware.HumanJapaneseLite
I use books to check some grammar points or vocabulary more in detail, but the app is just a great way to get started, cause the way you learn is much more organic, whereas books feel like just throw stuff at you hoping you'll memorize it.
I've used both the beginner and intermediate apps for around 5 months, together with some Youtube channels and I can understand around 60% of the interactions on the show. Now I'm starting to read some easy manga, which helps discover new kanji in an organic way, again instead of just relying on memorization (which I hate).
Good luck brother
haha try signing up for free trial of VPN! ExpressVPN works wonders! Next TH episodes will take months so at least you can get caught up with everyone hating on Hana hahahaha the way she acts in the new episodes make you see everything that happened before in an even worse way. It all makes sense hahaha
I’ll save you time, use ExpressVPN. I didn’t do a ton of research but I did enough and it works perfectly. Once it’s downloaded and installed just set you country to Japan and you’re good to go. The user interface is dummy-proof.
Yes it has been aired all the way to episode 40, with English subtitles even! You can sign up for a really good VPN on ExpressVPN. It's $12~ monthly but there's 30-days no questions money back guarantee. I have personally used it and the connection is awesome (from US).
If you're watching on a computer you can use a VPN such as Nord or ExpressVPN. They're both paid services but will be the easiest legal way to watch them. A free VPN you can look into is SoftEther. It's not as easy as Nord, or ExpressVPN. But it still works great.
It is possible to look around online to find them with Google. But from what I've seen the quality usually sucks if you watch it on 3rd party sites.
You can use a VPN like Nord, or ExpressVPN but those are paid options. They are the easiest and most user friendly in my opinion. A free VPN that I've used that works well is SoftEther, and sometimes even works better than Nord.
You can use sketchy sites, or that one facebook group. But just know that the video on the facebook group is sped up, so the audio will seem weird.
I did a little searching, from my experience Amazon Japan can be good for this, they have reasonable rates to the US for products from their warehouse (so products sold by Amazon directly or labeled as Fulfilled by Amazon/Amazon Prime). I’m not aware of other online shops in Japan that ship internationally but they must exist.
(1) Punky(?) Gel (White tube on the left)
パンキージェル
Could not find it with international shipping, but here it is on a shopping comparison site, maybe you can find some other lead from here: https://s.kakaku.com/beauty_health/ss_0018_0026/0020/%83p%83%93%83L%81%5B%83W%83F%83%8Bsh+%83t%83%40%83C%83%93/search_itemlist.aspx?ssi_kw=%83p%83%93%83L%81%5B%83W%83F%83%8Bsh+%83t%83%40%83C%83%93
(2) Cool Grease (Blue container on the right)
クールグリース
Found it on Amazon Japan with international shipping: https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00KFPBQ6C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mnJEEbVW3J279
That’s pretty awesome of you!
I know everyone is afraid of how complex a vpn sounds to set up but it’s really not that hard. The most basic is TunnelBear just download the app click on the map and you have a secure vpn connection. Once connected you can watch Netflix content from any county.
BGND is on Netflix, albeit on its Japanese site, which you need VPN to access. A couple members of the subreddit are creating English subtitles compatible Netflix. All links to help you set up are on the sidebar.
Alternatively, if you also have a Japanese carrier, Fuji TV on Demand (FOD) has it too.
And to answer the DVD question, only the movie Closing Door has an available release.

I think a handful of the US soundtrack is on this album, according to Shazam.
90% sure the third track, Tomorrow's Ours, is the opening background music.
