I don’t listen to other podcasts, so I don’t have any comparison points, but they really give it all for all of them. I hope they do good money out of it, because you’re never protected unless you have NordVPN installed! (Trademark registered).

Essays on every episode, interviews with David Chase (1 per season), very insightful and added a lot of behind the scenes stuff.
For example, David Chase confirms that Ralphie did start the fire, and the shot of the goat was meant to symbolize Ralphie as the devil who caused it.
The setup of this whole thing is pretty great. Paulie is listening to The Art of War and it's at a part where Tzu is discussing the skill of knowing when to fight and when not to fight.
Then, of course, he picks up a shovel and beats a guy with it.

It's free if you have amazon prime. I only watched the first part. It was like an hour and a half and it's great. They went about the different sets and a bunch of behind the scenes and tours and interviews with the people who own livia and johnny sacs house. Oh and it's hosted by gigi.
Some things Melfi helped Tony with:
Seems pretty obvious now but yeah, it looks like that was Corky's ace in the hole in the Family. 'Commendatori' is really a great example of what you're talking about. It's a nice display of Tony's failings and success as a boss. He's a completely alien creature in a strange place but still manages to secure an important assassin while strengthening transatlantic alliances. You're right about his language opportunities though. He had more than enough time to watch the History Channel.
This indirectly leads to Ralph's demise too, or at least the strained relationship between him and Tony.
"If your opponent is of choleric temper, irritate him." Tony really took that one to heart.

As for him talking about the show or other actors, literally never. On the first day of school he walked in and said "if you know who I am, good for you. If you don't, even better." He's kind of a tough guy in that I'm from New Yawk kind of way, but he's totally cool with me. I merge in a shit load of Sopranos references into my projects. He seems to laugh at them. In my last project I mentioned how he must have huge balls to piss in Tony's pool and he laughed at it and said thanks.
I think it was this one
I just picked it up in the library and skimmed through it real quick - it looked pretty interesting
Haha I worried about that after I posted. No, not an April Fool's joke at all. From the book Difficult Men:
> The theme song to The Sopranos was a remix of a 1997 song by a mostly unknown, America-obsessed band from Brixton, London, called Alabama 3...At first listen, it seemed an odd, almost perverse choice...even less "Italian" and "Jersey" than David Chase's other top choice of song, Elvis Costello's "Complicated Shadows."
Hello, I'm a bot! The movie you linked is called Pine Barrens, here are some Trailers
So I found the answer. I was wrong it doesn’t seem the story was ever told in the series, but it was included in his bio in Sopranos Family History book. You can check it out below
https://www.amazon.com/Sopranos-Family-History-Allen-Rucker/dp/0451202465
What happened exactly? They've been available for years. Also most classic stuff that is questionable is shown with a warning beforehand.

I certainly would've used Michael's House as Tony's house in the final shot as it is heavily influenced by the latter. Great video nonetheless!

Thank you, the conversation here so far has been frustratingly stupid. The link between depression and alcoholism is a well-established fact, it even has a webMD page - it's not just some wacky idea I pulled out of my ass. I learned about it from drug abuse treatment professionals. There's an entire field called Dual Diagnosis devoted to the interplay between drug abuse and mental illness.
Plus, that's not even what I'm trying to talk about! I'm talking about Chris' difficulty coping with life being a factor in his drug abuse. I just watched the scene where he's reading lines with Adriana, gets mad an starts doing lines. That's another classic sign: low frustration tolerance, heard that over and over. In that scene, the link couldn't be more direct.
After searching for it for about an hour, i have found only one torrent which has 2 seeders but its downloading now, i found it here https://btdig.com/68828ffccfad9e52f823b320bafb3f319d974cd9/james-gandolfini
You should get the Rao's cookbook too. The Lemon Chicken, Madone!
I went to order it off of Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Sopranos-Family-Cookbook-Compiled-Artie/dp/0446530573), and then I saw that the scumbag Henry Hill had also made a mob cookbook; https://www.amazon.com/Wise-Guy-Cookbook-Favorite-Goodfella/dp/0451207068/ref=pd_bxgy_14_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=Q4NZQGNH0RHE11RJTM71
Glad you asked. I may have bought the wrong thing off Amazon, but what I received is a 6x6" 50-page "Special Preview Edition" of "The Sopranos - The Complete Book".
Edit: Yeah looks like I bought the wrong thing.
Meant to get this.
There's a chapter in my book on the show (out in December!) JUST about the nuts and bolts of schemes. We got this terrific former DeCavalcante/Gallo associate to help us understand. Also highly recommend HIS book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017G7HEPI/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1. What was funny about researching it is in the New York Times between 1996-2003 there was a bust story that pretty clearly inspired the writers. Ripped from the headlines! Airbags, phone cards, etc.
Yea that's a solid assessment. There's a great book on evil called 'The People of the Lie' by M Scott Peck. He talks about the banality of evil but also of how the rationalizations were a huge part of the psychological makeup. I think you're right that the colleagues outing her so openly (a huge ethical problem started by Elliot) embarrassed her out of continuing with her dangerous little secret. The funny thing is, Tony used her advice to be a better criminal on a couple of occasions, just as the research suggested. Examples include "The Art of War" advice with Ralphie, the way he handled the situation with Junior and his mother, and acting "as if" by beating up Penny Arribiata.
>I mean a psychologist treating a mob boss suggests a book like that? I just.. I don't get it
It wasn't a serious suggestion. It was a flippant, offhand comment that was along the lines of "Therapy isn't supposed to help you be a criminal -- if you want to be a better gang leader, read The Art of War!"
One of the big examples I can think of is her suggesting him to read The Art of War. You knew it was on his mind, because he repeated something from the book to someone (I think Johnny Sack), and was using mind game techniques when he was "bullied" into making Ralph a captain. He handled it really well; keeping the peace and giving everyone what they wanted but still keeping Ralph in his place. There are a lot of examples, but this is one of the more blatant ones.
I have it too, it really is an awesome book
I have the Soprano cookbook
I listened to a few episodes and the bullshit/good content ratio was too high for it to be worth my time.
Do yourself a favor and read The Sopranos Sessions instead.
You should check out The Sopranos Sessions

The author very much examines the show in the way you are referring, even doing an episode-by-episode breakdown.
I love the book "Off The Back Of A Truck" by Nick Braccia. Probably my favorite book about The Sopranos
When I was a kid Coca Cola syrup for nausea was a thing. No carbonated water, just the syrup. Would sip it over crushed ice. Here, they still make it-

From the season 4 episode 4 "The Weight" Furio dancing with Carmella at the housewarming party. The song is in Italian.
Spaccanapoli "Vesuvio" from the Spaccanaopli CD - Lost Souls
Ziti, which I now make regularly, & I even have the sopranos cook book
Have you read Brett Martin's Difficult Men: Behind the Scenes of a Creative Revolution: From The Sopranos and The Wire to Mad Men and Breaking Bad. With two (2) colons in the title, you know this is a well-footnoted acedemic treatise. Anyhow, it's got some good, highbrow takes on Tony and the show's conception of American culture. Lots of good insight into Gandolfini, interview with Chase, and contrasts Tony with other anti-heroes like Walter White, Don Draper, etc. Peep it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0143125699/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Oh, I gotta change that spelling. Good or evil? I didn't know that, that's pretty interesting. Golem wiki. Also that reminds me that Schlomo also called Tony "mud" before calling him a Golem which according to the wiki also sounds congruent with Golem etymology.
It's true that for a regular barbell bench press 2 plates on each side is 225, but Tony's bench press does not have a 45 lb bar, the leveraged bench press has much less resistance, probably closer to 10-20 lbs. Additionally, a leverage bench press does not require stabilizer muscles, like a regular bench press does, thus one can 'bench' way more weight if he uses it. But, giving Tony the benefit of the doubt, maybe that this easier kind of benching was what Tony was talking about when he was bragging to Muscles Marinara.
However, it's much easier for a starter to reach ~200 lbs than it is to go from ~200 to 300 lbs, by the same reasoning that it is harder to go from 300 to 400 than from 200 to 300 - diminishing returns on the exercise.
Finally, Tony, small hands aside, had a big 6'1 frame with much longer arms than someone who is 5'6, so he wouldn't even have that inherent advantage. I sincerely doubt that he ever got anywhere close to 300 lbs on your common barbell bench press, although I could see it being possible on the a Smith Machine or a leverage bench press, both of which assist with the lift.
Source: I have been lifting for several years and can bench over 300 lbs so I know how hard it is and what someone who can bench that kind of weight looks like.
If you have the video files you can use MKVToolnix to rip the audio. Drag a file into MKVToolnix and you will see the parts that make up the file. It will contain a video file, audio file or files and maybe subs. unclick everything other than the audio and it will extract it to its own file. Any audio player on your phone will play the audio.

so apparently this is the study melfi red about compasion towards babies/animals etc. If you are interested i am sure its explained in detail
In case anyone was wondering, or interested, Frank Vincent actually did write a book. It’s called, “A Guy’s guide to being a Man’s Man” and it is absolute gold.

I always assumed the Neil Mink gazing at the security cameras was part of the overall theme of building tension, which was prevalent across the entire sixth season and hit its peak (obviously) in the last episode.
Holy shit I thought you all were joking, this is a real thing!
My friend has a Sopranos cookbook and it has recipes for everything that was in the show. And now I looked for it to buy it lol

It came out on Showtime right after the Sopranos. It's free on Amazon Prime, and there are 3 seasons. Hopefully this link works: https://www.amazon.com/Mark-8-36/dp/B000JO9XY6/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1549151757&sr=1-1&pi=PI_PJPrime-Sash-Extra-Large-2017,TopLeft,0,0_AC_SX118_SY170_QL70&keywords=brotherhood&dpPl=1&dpID=51bbYYFJRJL&ref=plSrch
I really enjoyed it a lot, it should be right up the alley for any Sopranos fan. It's about two Irish brothers in Federal Hill in Providence. One is a rising politician, and the other is an Irish mobster. It was also kinda cool for me since I'm from RI :)
It’s on Amazon Prime video.

WARNING: EXTREMELY LOW QUALITY. This shit is fucking terrible. The edits, the voiceovers that were done from phone calls... just a production nightmare-
But...
If you love the Sopranos like I do, there are some little interesting nuggets. I’d say 10% of both part one and two is good info. The rest is just fluff.
I always thought he kind of looked like the guy in this painting:
https://www.amazon.com/Poster-Goodfellas-Painting-Movie-Hanger/dp/B0061S6EGE
I like this one. One dog goes one way and the other dog goes the other way. And this guy is saying “Whaddya want from me?”
I got this one on Amazon for my wife for Christmas a few years ago and she loves it. She said it's the most useful gift she's ever received -- she wears it every morning. Super soft & plush fleece, really warm, machine washable, and it doesn't shed or pill like my shitty cheap bathrobe. Lots of colors to choose from. Highly recommended!
Tony Blundetto’s suit at his Welcome Home party was particularly awesome.
You can buy a photo of it on Amazon but hurry, stocks are limited:

Streaming, no. But be careful if you torrent stuff. I've been torrenting since 10th grade (so like a good 10 years) - I'm talking hundreds of thousands of songs, thousands of albums, hundreds and hundreds of movies, it's almost like a hobby for me - and I never once got an email from my ISP until I downloaded a few seasons of The Sopranos. I'd already seen the series a good 5 times through, but I had always had HBO at my parents house so it was always free. Long story short I got popped by my ISP for being in the torrent pool. So if you're going to torrent, just use a VPN. Private Internet Access is literally $30 a year and you'll never, ever get caught doing anything illegal online again. Well worth the $30 if you're downloading thousands of dollars of material a year
Tony mentions multiple times that he learns a lot of leadership skills in his therapy - not least of which was Melfi turning him onto The Art of War (though she was trying to say it to combat the very idea that he was there to acquire better mob skills, haha. She didn't expect he'd actually go out and read it)
Like others have said, it's a rough draft and the studio wants to decide if they're going to pick it up. The Sopranos was a massive, sprawling project and not everyone was on board with it. It wasn't just some loser ABC sitcom that they wanted to push out for a few bucks as quickly as possible.
If you want to learn more, I suggest reading The Revolution was Televised by Alan Sepinwall. Great book and it goes into detail about the creation of The Sopranos: https://www.amazon.com/Revolution-Was-Televised-Slingers-Slayers-ebook/dp/B00B26PWFE/ref=sr_1_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1505967521&sr=1-2
There were some biographies on the main characters in the coffee table book - I don't have my copy of the book with me at the moment but that seems a likely source for that kind of esoteric detail.
I found it via google search. I think it was an excerpt from this book http://www.amazon.com/The-Sopranos-SM-Selected-Scripts/dp/0446679828.
Here's all the scripts man

Not this track, but they made a whole album together and it's pretty good and I'm not even a country fan. It's called All the Roadrunning
stay away from that one. there's a pretty major packaging flaw that scratches the discs every time you take them out/put them back in.
hey maybe you can find your shirt here ;) hope it helps!! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VGTKKK/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B004VGTKKK&linkCode=as2&tag=webmarket04-20&linkId=OIILFR3N5XIG6VRR
