Echoing this, please do thorough research. I highly recommend cross-referencing potential programs with both the subreddit database and the BreakingCodeSilence database. These programs often engage in extremely deceptive/fraudulent marketing practices and can be hard to spot. Also, please feel free to reach out to me or other members of the subreddit with any additional questions or concerns you may have.
There has been a great movie released on amazon prime recently where the plot takes place in such a camp. Besides covering the subject, it is a great movie on its own: https://www.amazon.com/Experience-Allison-Kove/dp/B07ZWVZ8LQ
Help for survivors... on FaceBook
more help... http://afterstraight.socialgo.com/
fornits.com is a pretty good place to search. CAFETY has put together this facility watch list. However, it's important to note that this isn't a warning list, some programs made the list because they advertise out of state (there is a column that says why it's on the list). Many activists, including myself, feel that removing a child from their local environment can be abusive.
Sometimes you can find info by googling 'XYZ facility abuse' but they are clever and often tie those searches to how XYZ facility helps with drug abuse.
And, yeah, feel free to give us the name and we can help you research.
It is a short term program. The employees complain about poor pay and understaffing.

If people keep their head down, remain cool and let staff focus on those who act out the stay might be bearable.
The question is: What comes after such a stay? Who are they connected with? Will money exchange hands? Small referral fees result in a disaster.
I think you should consider doing a blog. You are becoming very perceptive and are gaining a lot of insight into the teen psyche. I think blogging about your journey through the next couple years could be very helpful to a lot of other parents and teens in similar situations.
In regards to math; are you familiar with the Khan Academy? It's online, It's free, It was recently featured on CBS News' 60 Minutes.
They have instructional/tutorial videos online covering all kinds of different academic subjects. Math videos were how they got started. Check them out.
This is a PBS story on them and is a good introduction to what they do.

They have all been archived and you can find archive links here. Best viewed on a computer browser (not phone). https://www.zotero.org/groups/4288739/breaking_code_silence/collections/3HUIXKKZ

You are right about terminology and the name game in some sense. Looking outside of the United States is helpful. Wilderness therapy, a term used in Scandinavia, looks nothing like the troubled teen industry of the USA. In recent the outdoor therapies book, Norwegian psychologist wrote about their approach to wilderness therapy while commenting about their concerns of the USA model. I would view outdoor therapies as the umbrella under which many models exist...that said, referring to the troubled teen industry as “therapy” is probably more problematic that what is or is not outdoors/wilderness.
If you guys are interested he also just released a book about the industry called "Troubled" which is really good.
that’s interesting — i went directly to the book’s website and the link to the book on amazon took me to the only copy i could find which is used and $97.94. where did you find the $20 one?
Written by Straight Inc survivor but this book was highly relevant to me. It covers the origins of TTI programs in general. A lot of these types of programs were modeled after Straight Inc.

Get off the anti-psychotics get a Ritalin prescription. You'll probably burn through most of the extra weight by summer.
Also, try this. It replaces a meal when you're in a hurry, you feel full for longer and it contains muscle-building plant-based protein.
ok. 1: drop the notion that this girl "hurts people for fun." That's not a thing for kids. She is acting out because she needs help. It is very unlikely she has some sort of flawed brain/nature or streak of masochism or sadism.
It sounds like this girl needs more attention from her mother. Perhaps you can talk to the mother to convince her that school can wait. That's the hard reality of this.
If you cannot convince the mother to spend more time with her kid, then you have to spend more time with this girl. I'm talking every available moment. She needs more one-on-one time with caring adults. She needs at least 2 or 3 adults to talk to who will not judge her.
Follow and interact with all the social accounts this girl has. Always be loving and encouraging in your comments.

5. This is the most important: You must not correct her or try to guide her. Your role is to be encouraging and loving only. This will be difficult. But she needs someone in her life that will look past all her acting out and believe in her core goodness. Therapists do this, but this girl needs way more people in her life that believe in her.
Faber & Mazlish have 2 classic books that may help: How to Talk So Kids Will Listen... and How to Talk So Teens Will Listen
Also look into Kenneth Ginsburg's books on ADHD and resilience.
Best of luck, and thanks for caring about this girl. She needs you.
Awwww!! My heart is completely melted, you and your family are wonderful! I think CAFETY is an excellent choice, they are doing great work. Some of their members have produced this fantastic document that has been a huge help in tracking these facilities.
I found this article. They lied to the girl who became therapist with own firm despite the sad ending of the show for her. The girl wanted to go on TV like it was like Jersey Shore reality-TV. She got something else.
Sort of like what I've been doing with this: https://www.zotero.org/groups/4288739/breaking\_code\_silence/library
The main problem with Zotero (sadly) is that the more you add to your bibliography, the slower it's going to get. I'm actually in the middle of exporting all the data out of mine and moving it to a different database so I can host it on a more elegant frontend
Complaints include lack of staff and unqualified staff.
In other news, The Pines Treatment Center has a ton of positions open.
Unfortunately, there is a ton of info, records, testimonies, and inspection reports on New Haven. It's a hellhole with a history of hiring and then shielding staff who are sexually predatory.
https://www.zotero.org/groups/4288739/breaking_code_silence/collections/SRPVHIZA
^^^Database with a TON (literally almost 30,000 files) of records and information about the TTI. Click that link and then click the arrow next to "New Haven" on the left sidebar. Then you'll see folders of files - all about New Haven - with survivor testimonies, state inspection reports, lawsuits, and more.
This is a work in progress but is currently the largest database of TTI experiences, as far as I know. Your program doesn’t seem to be on there, which of course is not definitive but is a good sign
You should talk to Ken Rosen who was in TTI and the juvenile system, has perspectives on crossovers: https://www.amazon.com/Troubled-Americas-Behavioral-Treatment-Programs/dp/1542007887

I haven't read it, but there is 58 Days: A Wilderness Story

If no one is using drugs, then how did this fellow manage to sell three million dollars worth a week out of his barn in a tiny redneck community? Was he really running Amway on the side and using the heroin as a cover?
I recommend reading books on crazy ass synanon.
Sad Nun at Synanon, Art Pepper's autobiography, et cetera. Those two are fascinating books.
