Make an account and practice some code! CS 141 was basically "C+" which means we code mostly in C with some elements of C++. When doing the challenges make sure your code is done in C. Also, if you can, I recommend learning how to use the command line and a UNIX terminal. If you use MacOS or Linux you can watch tutorials on compiling code and running programs, if you're on Windows I would recommend learning to use "Bash on Ubuntu on Windows". Learning to compile, edit, and write code through the terminal is another huge aspect of CS that'll become VERY important as you progress through courses.
You can ssh into the CS servers using vscode and edit if vim isn't your thing. They recommend putty because 95% of kids aren't tech savvy enough to use a terminal

I recommend this
You can also put an add on nextdoor.com, craigslist and post for a parking spot NOW as some people rent out their parking spots- or look now for parking lots that don't charge too much. There is one near Lake St/ Halsted that you could park and take the bus to the campus too ( straight shot and not far) . Let me know if you need help locating one and I can research for you :)

....and UIC students get free access to Office 365 which has OneNote which allows you to "print" pdf's into a OneNote page where you can edit it and then "print" the OneNote page into a pdf file. This is how I take online tests with my touchscreen PC and stylus.
What? Location tracking? Through your IP or cell tower or something?
You can probably just get a VPN for your phone/device if that's what is bugging you.
ProtonVPN or mullvad or nord.. but not Private internet access.
The key point is installing the Clang compiler that is included with the Xcode command line tools package. Here is the guide for setting up C++ on macOS.

Yes, if you have an Android, you can download Fake GPS.
Note that some profs, like my math 180 prof, took attendance by hand sometimes to check if people were just checking in and leaving/not showing up.
In fact, some mention this in their syllabus.
Jokes on you but I'm sponsored by NordVPN. Want to get rid of pesky nosey professors while you cheat at your own leisure? Use NordVPN today, take back your internet privacy. Use my code UICVPN to get one month free and 20% off your first yearly subscription.
If your on windows, what works best for me is to go to the network and sharing center, click set-up a new connection or network, then select connect to the internet and click next. It should then say that you are already connected to the internet and give you an option to "Browse The Internet Now", usually when I click that it pulls up the login page. Alternatively, 30 bucks a year at Private Internet Access gets you a solid VPN that circumvents the login system and tracking of the university.
Do not get a mac. Anything with with greater than or equal to 4 gb of ram. More is better. Make sure you have alot of harddrive space.

It's hard to tell because we don't know about you -- your experience with NLP, your abilities, etc. I didn't take CS 421 with prof Di Eugenio but just finished CS 521, a more advanced NLP course, with her. What you should know is prof. Di Eugenio is quite theoretical. Thus, be prepared to read a lot, not only the textbook but also a bunch of resources that she will put on the class' website. This should be your textbook.
