Engadget Just put up a in depth preview of the mango update. I am in a similar position as you and this Mango update is really tempting me to go WP7.
WP7 ahead of Android and right behind iOS in customer satisfaction survey. Mango is going to be a giant break-out moment. If you can wait, hold out till fall and get Mango.
Android is a non-starter for me. The whole thing is a mess.
Microsoft has announced Mango will be available to ALL Windows Phone 7 devices. So there's no danger here. I use the DVP myself. I also happen to work on the WP team.
I have Mango and it has not been addressed. Personally, I flip the lock screen up and then swipe to change track all without looking. I realize that doesn't solve the problem, but it's easier than hunting for the next track button.
EDIT: Wait, it might have been sort of addressed. I've been using Mango for so long I can't remember if this feature was present in NoDo. Previous, pause, and next buttons are present on the lock screen without having to press a volume key. See the title image here. Still not a hardware solution though.

I haven't been this excited for a product in a while. I really hope to make a WP7 phone my next cell purchase (unfortunately it may be a while).
Xbox, on a Phone
I'll admit, I very nearly needed to change my pants when I saw the Xbox tile on the phone for the first time. Obviously, you're not going to be playing Halo 3 on your smartphone (at least not this year), but yes, Xbox Live on a phone! It's tied to your Live profile, and there are achievements and gamer points for the games you can play on your phone, which will be tied to games back on your Xbox 360.
If Microsoft's got an ace-in-hole with Windows Phone 7, it's Xbox Live. Gamers have talked about a portable Xbox for years—this is the most logical way to do it. The N-Gage was ahead of its time. (Okay, and it sucked.) The DS and PSP are the past. The iPhone showed us that the future of mobile gaming was going to be on your phone, and now that just got a lot more interesting. The potential's there, and hopefully the games will be plentiful and awesome enough to meet it.

I've never repaired a samsung focus, but you can get the display for 109 on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/260883893066#ht_3411wt_1081 I just ordered the same type of thing (a full display/digitizer) for my HD7 from the same people. It hasn't arrived yet (ships out of China.) but so far they seem decent... Not sure if it's a real or fake part yet though. Reviews seem positive, so I'm confident it's a legit part.
I looked up the video on how to do the repair on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUTPf8QyAVs it actually doesn't look too complicated to do. 5 or so screws in the back, pop off the cover, lift the flex connector, heat up the LCD with a hair dryer for a while, and stick the new one on. Probably would take a half hour to install.
I'm thinking she has extremely small hands. This engadget video makes it look more like a realistic size. If his hands are about the same as mine, it looks like it might be a hair over 5" corner-to-corner.
It still looks a tad too big for my liking, but probably not a dealbreaker for me.
About $20 usd but its worth it. How much are you selling the mozart for? I would buy if it were affordable
I manage an IT department and we have a number of users with the Trophy (I have an Arrive). The biggest problem you'll face when moving from Android has more to do with the lack of apps and features than to do with the phone. Until Mango comes out, you'll be missing some of things you probably take for granted on the Droid. For example, the Trophy has no free turn-by-turn navigation.
The biggest complaint I've heard about the Trophy is one I've frequently heard about HTC in general. That is, the camera is pretty subpar. The screen is bright but average.
The strengths of the Trophy is that its quick, responsive, and it's a fairly slim slate. If you're an exchange user, you'll probably leap for joy when leaving Android. Email, Calendaring, and Office are outstanding. If you're willing to be shafted by Netflix, you can stream movies right from the get-go.
If it were me, I'd wait until either the Samsung Galaxy S II is released or until Nokia gets theirs out. Both are likely to be at 4-6 months away.
I'm not aware of any way to natively sync public folders to any activesync devices, including windows phone. With that said, depending on what you're doing with public folders, there may be suitable functionality replacements. If you're using public folders for shared mailbox functionality, Exchange 2007 and 2010 both natively support a function called (what else) Shared Mailboxes. These shared mailboxes can be used for sharing SMTP messages, but also calendars or any other regular component of a mailbox. WP7 support adding multiple activesync accounts, so I'll make the assumption (and I should confirm that I have not tried this myself) that you would be able to add your primary mailbox as well as a shared mailbox or two if you needed to.
If you happen to be using public folders for room calendaring, start using the native room mailbox functionality instead of PFs. After you do that, grab the Meeting Room app for a quick and easy way to book rooms from your phone.
As mentioned elsewhere, Microsoft has de-emphasized PFs. They're not going away anytime soon, but you'll also not see new features being added. (For example, PF databases still use the "outdated" public folder replication even though there's the outstanding DAG replication functionality available for mailbox databases).
Yes. There is an excellent bing turn-by-turn navigation app for Windows Mobile.
I imagine a UI revamp is underway.
Like I said, considering the platform was only launched 4 months ago, it's a bit premature to say that Microsoft is being "slow." They have updates in the pipeline ready to start releasing once some additional bugs are worked out. Plans are to release the copy/paste update in the next 2 weeks. They've already revealed other features that are actively being worked on that are also comming, likely before the end of the year.
I'm not sure what you expect them to do really. Developing software isn't something you can rush. Sure there are tons of ways to make the process more effiecient, but in the end it comes down to hands on keyboards, and lots of testing. You can't rush that, and you can't make it faster by throwing more money and engineers at it.
It sounds like you've got an interest in software development yourself. Why not head to your local bookstore and grab a copy of The Mythical Man-Month. I read this book early on in my career, and I have no doubt it was crucial in many decisions I've had to make regarding my own development work as well as teams I've been responsible for.
I know this thread is old, but I remember it, and I just saw this news article about the back covers and figured you would be interested
Sports Tracker (not to confuse witn Enomondo Sports Tracker) is coming soon to WP7.(Engadget article)
It started as a Nokia internal project, then became a separate company. This new company offers the app for free, and make a profit by selling a compatible HRM.
If they're bringing the app to WP7, and the only way they can make money off their development time is by selling the HRM, I think we can link the dots and infer that they expect their HRM to be compatible with WP7.
Another possible pic of the 800 too:

I'm not convinced on how it looks. Seems to have quite a lot of top/bottom bezel..
HTC did just release their new phones. I'm sure other companies will follow suit soon. Although I doubt there will be more than a few new phones anyways.
According to this update from Engadget, the event was slated to be nothing more than a "local developer event" and no new information or devices were going to be revealed. I'm guessing due to the lack of fanfare yesterday/today, that this was exactly the case. =[
Just saw this on engadget: "Update: Dell is not off the list of WP7 hardware manufacturers. Microsoft told us that the Round Rock gang simply isn't one of the "partners ready to go" do the Mango tango right now. "
Not really sure what that means, but it's starting to look even more bleak for DVP owners. :\
This is the right answer. Unlocking is just 2.25 from this auction. I've unlocked several (3+) Quantums I bought for family members through this guy. There's cheaper listings on eBay, but they are probably bait and switch ("oh, your phone is too new, we need to use this other database and that's an extra n dollars"). This guy never baits/switches, just gives you your code pronto. I don't know him, I just know my experience with bait/switch with others.
The update to Mango will come to you on AT&T's release schedule, not TMo. This is because of the branding. But yes, you should be able to upgrade to Mango when ATT releases the floodgates.
Ah, U.S. searches. Worldwide the situation is obviously quite different.
comScore's U.S. numbers for last month are mixed for Bing depending on the type of search.
You should check out the live tile demo for air qantas from MIX11 http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/MIX/MIX11/KEY02 about 46 minutes in - third party apps have better control and can create multiple deep linked live tiles

My apologies for not linking. It's this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Professional-Windows-Phone-Game-Development/dp/0470922443/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1327187315&sr=1-2
Note that this is about XNA, not Silverlight. Although most of the WP7 API's are used exactly the same way on either.
Have you read Size 14 Is Not Fat Either (A Heather Wells Mystery)?
This is the one I got. I installed it a few weeks ago. First time I booted it up, I got nervous that I may have wasted my money, the phone was running extremely slow. I rebooted it, and it's been running perfectly ever since. I use mine to store music and movies that I couldn't put on the 8GB of onboard storage, it's all working just like it should.
I just ordered one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001L1H0SC/ref=oss_product
Works like a charm in my Focus after I did a firmware reset. The phone is recognizing 22.02 GB of storage.
UPDATE T+24h: Today I found my phone had powered off in my pocket, and wouldn't turn back on until I pulled the battery and replaced it. I can't prove causation, but I've had the phone about 1 week and it never locked up prior to the MicroSD insertion.
