Definitely could be lighter. I also feel like OP could recreate all of this as a BitBar plugin. Since you can use any scripting language and process clicks and modifier keys to do whatever you want, I imagine porting this would be simple.
Here's a (relatively) simple way to track the state of SegWit adoption in the menu bar on your Mac. The number represents the percentage of blocks since the last difficulty adjustment that are signaling SegWit support. When the number hits 95, the activation threshold has been met.
A simple shell script reads the numbers from an API, and BitBar displays them in the menu bar. Mac only, sorry.
First, install BitBar https://getbitbar.com/
Next, install 'jq', a command-line json parser. http://macappstore.org/jq/
Last, create the 'segwit.sh' script with the following contents in your BitBar scripts folder. Make sure the file is executable.
#!/bin/bash
data=$(curl -s "http://api.qbit.ninja/versionstats" | /usr/local/bin/jq '.sincePeriodStart.stats[6].percentage') printf 'SegWit %.*f\n' 2 $data
Not for browser as you mentioned, but if you have a Mac, you can have something similar on menu bar on the top with bit bar, there are a bunch of plugins for it:
https://getbitbar.com/plugins/Finance
Isn't this just a copy of Bitbar except Bitbar shows output in menu also and yours doesn't? Personally, Personally, I wouldn't pay for this. I'm sure you spent a lot of time an energy on it, but with something so similar already available for free and open source, this comes across to me like a rip off of their idea. Not saying that's what it is. But with a name so close (and not an apparent reason why it's [Bid]bar -- only one letter changed), you have to see why I'm skeptical.
If you have more features, etc. I'd love to hear about them and see if you can sway my mind?
I've always wondered this too. My MacBook tends to shut off around 20% which was causing me to lose data. My solution was to write a BitBar plugin that periodically checked the battery level and prompted me when it reached 30%.
Does anyone have a better solution and/or want me to upload that script somewhere?
Awesome - I did find BitBar for Mac (https://getbitbar.com) which is completely customisable but didn't have a plugin in for format I wanted (doge/usd). I think I may use the same API as you and write a plugin for it.
For those of you using a Mac, I've found BitBar really useful to keep track of the price. It's free & open source (I'm unaffiliated).
People have made plugins for several exchanges and it's super easy to write your own script for other data sources.
If you want to step up your addiction, get an app called BitBar. You can write really easy, short programs that appear in your mac's task bar. Currently I show SPY % down since ATH, today's % change, and the amount of money I've gained or lost today. I can make it green or red based on today's earnings. It's nice to have it persistently on my screen so that I can obsessively check 20-30 times a day.
I also have one that shows how far one candidate is up in the polls over another candidate. Gives me a little bit of hope that this nightmare will be over.
$20 a year is a pretty expensive subscription fee for a self described simple weather app. What exactly does it unlock?
BitBar is free, open source, and has a variety of weather plugins: https://getbitbar.com/plugins/Weather
I wrote a small shell script that you can run on osx/linux that works pretty well with Bitbar. I guess one can run such a script with powershell but I'm not fluent with it. https://pastebin.com/vt2iexFC https://getbitbar.com/
Thanks. I read about that and it sounds like people think it's better nowadays to just whitelist it right in the web interface rather than use that project. However, I'm glad you sent that link because I found this cool BitBar script that lets me easily disable and enable Pi-Hole:
If you use nightscout, there is a plugin for BitBar (https://getbitbar.com/) that shows your bg in your menu bar
https://getbitbar.com/plugins/Lifestyle/nightscout.1m.sh
It hasn't been updated for the latest version of nightscout but I've fixed mine. Can share the fix if anyone is interested.
Sorry, forgot to link.
It's a plugin for BitBar (an app that let's you install plugins on your default macOs bar). The plugin is called chunkwm_skhd. It displays the current desktop ID and layout and it also has an option to stop or restart de wm without using any commands.
If you've got a little bit of coding ability, you can install Bitbar and create a python script using the PyiCloud package to create a Mac MenuBar app to show the battery level of any of your iCloud devices. Here's what my python script looks like:
from pyicloud import PyiCloudService api = PyiCloudService('<My Apple ID>','<My Password>') iphone = api.devices['<My Device ID (found by looking at api.devices)>'] battery = int(round(iphone.content['batteryLevel'],2)*100) print("{}%".format(battery)
If this gets enough interest, I'd be happy to publish a BitBar extension so you don't have to worry about making it yourself :)

Thanks, and I understand why you would suggest that. For what I do, I want realtime 1-second refresh of my stats... I'm trying to get wireless roaming at my office working correctly and I want to know as soon as I transition to the next strongest AP, etc etc...
I use a GREAT 3rd party app called BitBar (https://getbitbar.com/) which I HIGHLY recommend...
The ONLY drawback is that mac apps have free reign on how much real estate they take up in the menu bar, and the custom verbiage that I have for my wifi takes up some decent space on the menubar.
For instance, in my menubar, it will display:
chaos on AP-7 (-50)
So I know I'm connected to SSID "chaos" on AP-7 and my RSSI is -50 db.
I love that, and it refreshes every second. Looking for alternatives to display that somewhere else....logically on the dock as an icon.
I use something similar but use shellwrangler to run the script to check my inbox and provide an unread mail count in the OS X menu bar. BitBar also looks good for this but I've not tried it yet.
