I am on Fi and live in Canada and what /u/Mdayofearth said is 100% correct. One way to get around the .20 cents a minute is to use Line while in Japan-- it is their most popular messaging app.

They might frequent Reddit, if they are trying to learn English, at least enough to be able to read it.

They are more into other sites that aren't US-centric.

Nico Nico, for example. A lot more popular than Youtube and other U.S.-centric videosharing app. Or at least a few years back, I don't know if that is the case, but it's still Japan-Centric compared to Youtube.

Line, as a messaging app, is also more popular in Japan over using every other common messaging app in the U.S.

LIHKG is a lot more popular with people in Hong Kong, and maybe people who are able to read/write Traditional Chinese, even if they are able to read/write in English. Similar to Reddit, I suppose?

India, you might think Twitter is really popular right there, but there are quite a few alternatives that has as much, or more users from India using than there are of people using Twitter in India, which is why India is cracking down on technology companies not censoring things (they can afford to kick whatever online/technology company they want.)
