Well, to be truly hipster-ish, he should use Instagram : see? all better!
EDIT : For the haters, I actually used Picnik (a online picture editor bought by Google) to do this. By the way, it gonna close mid-april and gonna be integrated into other Google products like Picasa and Google+ and in the meantime, it is in free premium mode and everybody who paid for it will get a full refund. And a pony.
Haha thank you, guys. It still makes me cringe to think how much of my time I spent on the picnik website editing this. Just looked it up (http://www.picnik.com/) and it shut down in 2013. The header says that the picnik is over. Wah wah.
Nice job! I can see a difference too, especially from the side (although the front and back look a bit smoother too). I use http://www.picnik.com/ to make my progress pics - you can do collages and resize at the same place, so it's terribly convenient.
Not interested in purchasing, but I've got some suggestions to help it sell.
Two of the images are not actually there, so get those back.
Retake all of the photos. Take them near that window around 10:30 or 11:00 so you have pretty strong but indirect natural light. This way you won't need to use the flash, which won't detract from the quality of your object or show crazy paint texture issues that the eye probably won't see without the high contrast of the flash.
Upload photos that are the correct side up. If you don't have photo editing software, you can rotate them online with tools like Picnik.
Post to Craigslist early and often. I know how unnerving it can be to be scammed, but since you're asking for cash and in-person pick up, there's very little chance of that. I can only imagine someone not showing up in this case.
Good luck!
Hey thanks man. The camera I used to take the picture is nothing special, it's one of those 'extremely rugged' Olympus cameras. It's more about the editing really, my friend used this website. Not sure what settings she used, all I know is that she went for a 'retro' look.
Your stuff's really cute! I do have a couple suggestions, though.
You might want to up the price a little bit. $6.50 for a handmade bracelet seems cheap. As a customer, I get the idea that if you, the seller, don't think it's worth much, it must be cheaply made. But maybe that's just me. Also, what is it about the $22 bracelet that makes it worth so much more than everything else?
Your pictures are good (something beginning Etsy sellers (including me) usually fail at) but could be better. The pictures with the white backgrounds need better lighting. I'd suggest either taking them outside, with natural light, or making a DIY Lightbox. Plus, Etsy seems to have a huge boner for pictures taken out in nature. Note: I haven't tried making a lightbox, so I don't know how well that link works. It's on my to-do list.
And one more thing- Do your items come from a smoke free/allergen free home? If they do, you should say that in your bio or your shop description or something. If not, you should also say that somewhere.
And make yourself a banner. You don't have to get fancy-I used Picnik and it worked perfectly fine.
You can use Picnik. Click the "Upload a photo" button and go to your chronos folder. Your photo should be there. When you have it open go to the "Save & Share" tab and the option to share it with Facebook should be at the top.
The only thing wrong with photography are the amateurs who don't bother learning anything about techniques, and think that cliche pictures make them good photographers. Look at step 12. My sister does that. I know plenty of people who do that. Want to know why they do that? They aren't good enough at critiquing art to know what they like best. They just think that black and white images look artsy, and aren't able to determine whether or not the picture is better in B&W or not.
Anyway, a few things that were left out of the image. Other than having part of your photo in B&W, and part in color (step 4), excessively blurring everything but one small section of a photo is another amateurish, and cliche technique.
Also, you don't need to pirate photoshop, or ever even learn how to use it. Not when you have picassa, and picnik.com.
If you don't want to download any software and want a pretty simple way to create a collage, try using picnik. They have a collage maker on that link, though I personally haven't tried it myself.
You may also try using Picnik to get that holga-ish, Lomo-ish look. It is free and easy to use. Look under effects, then camera for the holga/lomo settings.
Most of all, enjoy your camera and your photos!
May I suggest Picnik?. It's a very simple online photo tool, but if you mess around enough with things like saturation and coloring, you'll eventually be able to make a photograph look like a trippy painting. May not be what you're looking for, but it's all my knowledge of such things has to offer.
Edit: Three Examples of photos I messed with in Picnik.
Aviary has an API, although I'm not sure to what degree it fits your need: http://developers.aviary.com/
It's free under 1,000 calls, and you have to contact them for pricing over that.
edit: It looks like Picnik has an API as well: http://www.picnik.com/info/api
Try experimenting with the padding-top decriptor. Instead of padding: 25px 20px 0px 80px;
try increasing the pixel count for the first number in line (padding: 125px 20px 0px 80px;
) to see if that 'pushes' the feature down below the sponsored link's box. If it does, fine tune it by adding to or subtracting from that first number until it floats exactly where you want it. Only problem with this is the feature may end up appearing quite lost on the newest submissions queue, floating too far down without a sponsored link box to fill the empty space.
Another method is to describe a new .content {margin: 30px 7px 5px 0; z-index: 1;}
(making as much space as you need by playing with the first number) and add the banner as an image saved to the background of the subreddit's body, with padding descriptors to float it in the empty space created in the new margin descriptor, but that'd take a bit more time and effort to create - image editing software or a site like Picnik'd be needed to create the image. If you need to go that route, shoot me a PM and I'll play around with it to see what's possible.
Based on your first paragraph that didn't sound like your goal.
You can re-size them with a plethora of tools. GIMP, Photoshop, etc. There are online tools that will do this for you too (Picnik). You could also re-size them in batch using Photoshop and I believe with GIMP you can use scripts to batch change images.
This website is awesome for editing photos http://www.picnik.com/. Whats nice about this website is you can down load your pic from several different places facebook, myspace, your computer, etc. Once its downloaded click on the create tab then the text tab. That's it.
