Have to say it, this isn't an indication of it coming to Android Wear. I'll break it down piece by piece.
>* Android app contains a whole new pokemongoplus project referencing Pokemon GO implementation on Android Wear
Pokemon Go Plus is Niantic/The Pokemon Companies custom Bluetooth wearable. Source (pokemongo.com)
>* The code implementation is marked as complete and release ready
That means absolutely nothing...
>* Android Watch will also use Bluetooth to communicate with your Android Smartphone
* The communication between the smartphone app and your Android watch is encrypted (AES)
* Pokemon GO Plus works in the background – it is not required to keep the smartphone app opened while playing on the watch
Again, all of that means nothing since this is for the Pokemon Go Plus Wearable device.
>* A variety of Android Wear devices smart watches are supported – the code scans for watch characteristics and adapts accordingly
This scans for generic bluetooth devices and figures out their characteristics (step counter, etc). This would detect a capability of the Pokemon Go Wearable and allow only that device.
>Some Android Wear devices work with iOS also. The data mined implementation suggest you’ll be able to use an Android smartwatch and pair it with iOS
Absolutely baseless claim from the article.
Further down in the article they also state
>And yes, you read the code correctly – Niantic’s Pokemon GO Plus framework is called ble!
They have literally zero clue what they are talking about. BLE is a industry standard term for Bluetooth Low Energy, which is what the Pokemon Go Plus device connects using.
TL;DR: Nothing in there is an indication of it coming to Android Wear.
Looks like it can auto-catch Pokemon, but only if you've caught one of that type before:
>Once a Pokémon is close, press the button on the Pokémon GO Plus to throw a Poké Ball. You'll only be able to throw a Poké Ball using Pokémon GO Plus if you've caught the Pokémon before. The Pokémon GO Plus will flash and vibrate to let you know if you were successful in catching the Pokémon.
That's not what the Plus is though (well, at least based on what's been said so far?). It's basically just a Bluetooth device that allows you to do a few limited actions without needing to pull your phone out. http://www.pokemongo.com/en-us/pokemon-go-plus/
Also worth noting that the official app description does state you need a minimum of 2GB to play so if you're trying to play with 1GB and getting frustrated, by all means try the OP's suggestion but be aware that you're technically playing on a device that does not meet the software publisher's specifications.

Not compatible with Android devices that use Intel Atom processors. Compatibility with tablet devices is not guaranteed. Application may not run on certain devices even if they have compatible OS versions installed."
The official page says it: "You'll only be able to throw a Poké Ball using Pokémon GO Plus if you've caught the Pokémon before". From http://www.pokemongo.com/en-us/pokemon-go-plus/. So you can only learn there's a pokemon, but you'll need the phone to catch it.
No reason is given. I suspect that's because to catch a new pokemon you should actually "battle" with it by doing a good launch.
> This is really fishy. I'm not a developer, but I'm sure they had to shift some in-game code for the prototype and for their device too. Niantic won't be pleased.
Perhaps it's emulating the Pokémon Go Plus?
> thanks for ruining the game by forcing all these security measures
Except that these security measures such as preventing rooted phones were implented to stop cheaters. (It didn't)
> trying to go against Niantic's vision.
And what is that vision exactly? Is it this one? Where they basically tell you which direction to go in? Just like a tracker?
Before you argue "hurr durr its a trailer of course it wont be 100% true" then why does the webpage explicitly state that you can determine the location of nearby Pokemon? The specific quote is "Use it to find PokéStops, Gyms, the location of nearby Pokémon, and more!"
>If you dont like the game: stop playing it, stop talking about it, move on.
Who said that they don't like the game? Everyone is saying that they don't like what Niantic is doing to the game.
> I love the game without trackers, so boring to B-line to every pokemon you want.
Good for you. Thing is, not everyone uses trackers 24/7. In fact, the majority of people probably only use them to track down the elusive Snorlax or Dragonite they saw in their sightings.
I feel the state of the app is as intended. this way there is a lot more reason for consumers to pick up the Pokemon Go Plus accessory that basically allows to have it run in the background.
I tried Pokemon Go today and while I like the general idea, I think there are too many annoyances for me to continue playing.
As is, it's really not well suited to be combined with running:
it lures you into crowded places I'd wish to avoid
you basically have to have your display unlocked all the time
the collection system doesn't seem that rewarding to me
it constantly interrupts your background music even if you disable all in game sounds
the density of pokemon is too high to use it for interval training but - at least on the countryside - too low to occupy yourself with it.
the throwing mechanic for pokeballs seems entirely pointless, at least at my low level. Either make it much more challenging or otherwise allow me just to tap a pokemon while running.
I think most of these issues would be resolved if I would buy the Pokémon GO Plus accessory but that won't happen, unless the software itself gets improved.
So, after walking around for 2 hours playing Pokemon Go, I decided to ditch it and go for an honest 5.5km run. Next I might give Zombies, Run! a try.
I would kill for a PokeWalker v2 type of thing. Literally just re-release the old PokeWalkers, but have them Bluetooth based instead of IR based. Charge like $20 a pop and let it record the data for things like eggs. This would be much cheaper than a fitbit (iirc they're like $100+), and much more reasonable as an add-on. Either way, I do feel like they need to figure something out with how the tracking works, because as it is right now, it kills phones like crazy.
EDIT: Wow they're already on it, though it doesn't mention anything about egg hatching or things like that. I need one, lol.
> Would Niantic introduce various stones for pokémon to use to evolve on top of candy?
A stone mock-up is still visible here as background. I do hope they introduce items given out by team leaders upon mission completion. Evolutionary stones are a must.
> Would branched evolutions be solved with pure randomness, original (and advanced) mechanics like day/night cycle or would we get a hidden mechanic like with naming Eevees?
I bet they would fix it up when the times comes. Stones plus friendship would do the trick.
> Would Friendship statistic be introduced if so many pokémon evolutions rely on it? Maybe it could be increased by making a pokémon your buddy and walk with it for days? That would be great if I think about it.
The easiest way to introduce friendship is by calculating kms walked with your buddy. They could add a Pokémon-Amie features but I don't think it will happen any time soon.
> Should trading become a requirement for certain evolutions, increasing serendipity between players or would it be too annoying for solo players?
It would surely be annoying for solo players, but it will also give them a motivation to meet new people and be social, as gym strategy already does.
The official splash page says:
> Once a Pokémon is close, press the button on the Pokémon GO Plus to throw a Poké Ball. You'll only be able to throw a Poké Ball using Pokémon GO Plus if you've caught the Pokémon before. The Pokémon GO Plus will flash and vibrate to let you know if you were successful in catching the Pokémon.
May wanna try /r/PokemonGoBoise for friends
Also keep Niantic's advice in mind:
> Remember that team members may not be your real-life friends, so be careful with what you tell them about yourself. (source)
http://www.pokemongo.com/en-us/pokemon-go-plus/
It also tracks KM for buddy pokemon and eggs with the phone locked. Another newer feature is that you can select only pokestops or pokemon or leave both on. I frequently leave pokestops only on when I'm low on pokeballs, but want to track KMs.
With the release of Pokemon Go Plus set for September (after being delayed) I would say no, seeing as how they want people to buy the Plus device, which is basically what you would hope for in the smart watch notification. http://www.pokemongo.com/en-us/pokemon-go-plus/
I've found nothing stated officially on it besides that, so either way, shoot when it is small. Also this page has some vague information that suggests curveballs increase catch chance.
>Several factors affect your chances of catching a Pokémon. The Pokémon’s CP level, the type of Poké Ball you used, your throwing technique, and other factors come into play when determining whether the Pokémon can be successfully caught. And some Pokémon will run away!
According to the Pokemon Go website's section on the Plus: "Once a Pokémon is close, press the button on the Pokémon GO Plus to throw a Poké Ball. You'll only be able to throw a Poké Ball using Pokémon GO Plus if you've caught the Pokémon before. The Pokémon GO Plus will flash and vibrate to let you know if you were successful in catching the Pokémon."
meaning you can only catch duplicate pokemon with it... which isn't necessarily a bad thing (I'm looking at you Eevee), it makes it disappointing knowing that you'll not catch a rare near you if you've never caught it before...
You don't need to buy the gadget, which is just some kind of pokeball/localisation pin-shaped bracelet that connects to your phone so you dont always need to have your screen open to play some parts of the game.
It's also free to play, but with in-game purchases.
Here's the Pokemon Go Plus website
Spinning Pokestops without holding your phone is a nice feature but it takes the fun out of the game if you don't know what Pokemon you are catching and there is no skill in throwing a ball. I assume you will still need the app open on your phone but at least you can have it in Battery Saver mode to save some juice. This seems mostly suited for spinning a ton of pokestops like if you were in a car or walking to work, I'm not sure that is worth $45
Because then they couldn't sell Pokemon Go Plus, a bracelet that alerts you to pokemon nearby and pokestops- it even lets you catch a pokemon if you've caught it before.
Interestingly I think habitat is what Niantic have decided to call those moving grass patches on the map. > Keep an eye out for glowing areas called habitats that indicate where you may find Pokémon. You won't always find a Pokémon in a habitat, but the chances are very good. source
I don't think I've ever seen a "glowing area"...
Is it safe to assume they meant the grass patches?
> Which is retarded.
It depends on your particular use case; you've cited two, so…
> Most modern phone usage is not actually making phone calls.
It's playing [Pokémon GO](/r/pokemongo), right? The Pokémon GO Plus wrist band will enable people to play without pulling out their phone. > Sending messages
I'm already using voice recognition for messaging (Siri in particular; Google has been alright in the past, and I'll wait to see how well Pebble integrates Alexa).
> web browsing
A large (and fast growing) segment of the market agrees with you and chooses a large screen; that dominates their form factor. Looking for something smaller is a lost cause with today's tech.
[Infographic: Phablets to Account for the Lion's Share of Future Smartphone Growth | Statista]
This is a use case where smaller form factors are weak and, if this is your main usage, by all means get thee to a phablet! ☺
(At some point in the future, retinal projection technologies will allow for large, virtual displays in small packages. Google Glass is the closest that anyone has gotten so far. Another alternative, thanks to accessibility regulations, is audio web browsing.)
The official page for the Go plus features it being held in someone's hand without the bracelet, so I'm quite certain it'll be detachable. Customize away!

This page is missing something
edit: the missing picture was of doduo. not sure why it's missing though can check with wayback machine
edit: two ideas. one is that the picture shows a vehicle nintendo didn't own. two is that doduo is link to ditto somehow
So Mom can have her cell phone back and kids will stop confusing a spawn with an incoming email when the phone vibrates. That thing is an ugly cross between a friendship necklace and summer camp macrame art.
Some things you can look at: http://www.pokemongo.com/en-us/pokemon-go-plus/ http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-video-games/pokemon-go/
I am not an expert, but here is my guess at this, 1 It will probably be with battery saver. It seems as if you need to keep the app open, as the PGPlus wont have a GPS by itself 2. Yes, you need to tap it in order to redeem the items in the PokeStops. 3. The item is Bluetooth. Besides, the app can detect the PGP very fast. 4. It really depends if you think it is worth it. If you have your phone out 24/7 and you have little battery life, go for it. If you are at work a lot, then that would help too.
“To make sure you and those around you are safe, do not play Pokémon GO while riding a bike, driving a vehicle, operating heavy machinery, or doing anything else that requires your full attention.”
> Weird, I see bikes in the trailer.
really? you expect games to be anything like the trailers? you must be disappointed a lot then.
from the official pokemon go site: "do not play Pokémon GO while riding a bike"
It's not listed under the compatibility section. If you can't get it going, I wouldn't return it, though - you can sell it for double the cost right now.
It's not an app, it's a bluetooth device that lets you play the game (some parts at least, including swiping Pokestops and catching Pokemon) without having to look at your phone.
I'm just gonna paste my comment from above
We do know.
> Once a Pokémon is close, press the button on the Pokémon GO Plus to throw a Poké Ball. The Pokémon GO Plus will flash and vibrate to let you know if you were successful in catching the Pokémon.
Pretty sure there are numerous press releases from Niantic suggesting this isn't the case. There is no 100% auto catch feature with the plus.
Edit: From http://www.pokemongo.com/en-us/pokemon-go-plus/
A POKÉMON IS NEARBY!
When a Pokémon is near, the light on the Pokémon GO Plus will flash. It will also flash and vibrate when you pass a PokéStop.
Once a Pokémon is close, press the button on the Pokémon GO Plus to throw a Poké Ball. The Pokémon GO Plus will flash and vibrate to let you know if you were successful in catching the Pokémon.
The facts are everything in quotation marks in my opening post. They're all direct quotes from http://www.pokemongo.com/en-us/pokemon-go-plus/ and http://www.gamestop.com/accessories/pokemon-go-plus/131550 .
But.. how can you get a ton of stardust/candy when not playing? you mean by throwing pokeballs and hoping to catch what you can't see?
First of all, you walk a lot at work but don't have the app open? But you could be hatching eggs! You get a pokemon out of all that walking PLUS multiple candies.
And second of all, the pogo plus doesn't track walking at all. It literally ONLY communicates with your phone to see when you're near a pokemon or pokestop and vibrates on your wrist AS WELL AS on your phone that is in your pocket, to give you a secondary notification. Then you can push the button on it to throw a pokeball or swipe a pokestop. Or you can get out your phone and use a berry or switch balls on your phone and just catch it normally if you prefer (I know most people will prefer that level of control over catching pokemon).
That's it.
No screen. No pedometer. No nothing.
And pokemon go has to be up, running, and in the foreground on your phone for any of this to happen.. AND must be linked via bluetooth to your bracelet.
Edit - here are two links that hopefully help explain this a bit more thoroughly-
Saftey? The thing vibrates when there is a pokemon or pokestop near, and you can tap it to spin the pokestop? I'm not sure what it has to do with saftey? http://www.pokemongo.com/en-us/pokemon-go-plus/
>The Pokémon GO Plus is a small device that lets you enjoy Pokémon GO while you're on the move and not looking at your smartphone. The device connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth low energy and notifies you about events in the game—such as the appearance of a Pokémon nearby—using an LED and vibration.
http://www.pokemongo.com/en-us/pokemon-go-plus/
I believe the set release is in september?
edit: 9/30/16 is the release date.
As far as we know right now, it's a wrist-wearable that connects via Bluetooth while your phone is on and running the app. It will vibrate and a light will flash when a Pokemon is encountered, and if it's one you've already caught you're able to push the button on it and maybe catch the Pokemon. The official site has a description here
With the release of Pokemon Go Plus set for September (after being delayed) I would say no, seeing as how they want people to buy the Plus device, which is basically what you would hope for in the smart watch notification. http://www.pokemongo.com/en-us/pokemon-go-plus/
you will get the items from the pokestops
"The Pokémon GO Plus will begin to blink and vibrate whenever you're within range of a PokéStop. Press the Pokémon GO Plus button to search the PokéStop for items. If you find any items, swipe or tap them to add them to your inventory."
Not sure 100% about phone unlocked and such. Not many details have been released yet. If you haven't read this yet then it pretty much explains the majority of what we know http://www.pokemongo.com/en-us/pokemon-go-plus/
I cant tell if your trolling me or just not reading at all.
Another source straight from the horses mouth;
http://www.pokemongo.com/en-us/pokemon-go-plus/
"The Pokémon GO Plus is a small device that lets you enjoy Pokémon GO while you're on the move and not looking at your smartphone. "
It literally tacks your location to let you know when you are near a gym when your app is closed, location tracking = distance traveling.
