I'm one month into a four month road trip. So far I've drivin 4837 miles starting from my home in Minnesota. Today I spent my birthday checking out 17 mile drive in Pacific Grove, CA. I hadn't done much research on it and it really blew my mind. In particular I loved Spanish Bay, which is where this picture is from. I walked all the way down the boardwalk (and had a deer cross the path right in front of me!) and then back down the beach with my toes in the water. I also treated myself to a fancy seaside dinner of clam chowder, lobster risotto, and chocolate mousse. Now I'm laying in my sleeping bag in my hammock high as a kite. Life is good today.
For sure! A few ways you can take a virtual ride along: 1. Our entire route documented here: https://www.polarsteps.com/DavidGrotting/588245-panamerican-highway 2. Our Instagram for more pics: @roaddialogues 3. Our website with a bit more info on the setup and trip as well as interviews we’ve had with local people: www.roaddialogues.com
We will have over a month left on the trip heading back up north to Buenos Aires with a quick stop in Uruguay, but I plan to make a video of the entire trip when I get home late May. We’ve got some great footage of the adventure.
Happy to answer any other questions!
Ok :)
You can see the itinerary here: https://www.polarsteps.com/ElineVandeVen/3549774-northern-italy-2020
We spent around 2 weeks in the Northern part of Italy. Flew to Milan, and immediately took a train to Parma (COVID was still quite scary in Milan to us haha). We stayed some days in Parma, then rented a car and drove to Verona. We wanted to take trains first, but we preferred being flexible in the Dolomites. We had a lake day at Garda, and then drove off to the Dolomites. The last days we spent in a relatively quiet Venice! If you want I can also share accommodations/restaurants/other recommendations, just let me know.
I think OP did the whole Tre Cime di Lavaredo hike. We're already planning on going back and spending our full time in the dolomites + do the rest of that hike as well. It started raining really hard when we were halfway, and since we had booked a stay at the rifugio we decided to go there instead of finishing the hike. The hike is not that long, so I would recommend to not stay at a rifugio.
Hope you can go soon :)
I‘m not sure if i‘m allowed to post such links here (mods let me know if not) but we have a polarsteps account with our whole route:

Cheers! Hah that’s awesome! Ushuaia is pretty amazing set in the snow covered peaks. We’ll spent about 5 days here.
Feel free to check out our blog www.roaddialogues.com or our instagram: @roaddialogues to learn more about the trip. Also this is our route: https://www.polarsteps.com/DavidGrotting/588245-panamerican-highway
Polarsteps might be a good option for you to look into. I've only listed my previous travels on the site, but I have a coworker who travels a lot and posts updates regularly during each of his trips. I should be getting more use out of the app this Dec when my husband and I go to Spain.
Thanks! Definitely check out the northern part around Sa Pa. It's amazing! Never trust Google Maps on certain road recommendations!
Also when you buy your bikes, don't judge them too much by the look. The local mechanics buy these bikes off backpackers and just spray paint them all over so the parts look fresh and new. Have a test ride, see if you're comfortable with it. Tbh most of these bikes have been running up and down the country several times so it's hard to see if a bike is alright or not. Either way, you'll have heaps of fun with them and breaking down is part of the experience ;-) You can get them fixed literally everywhere and its super cheap!
Have fun on your trip!!
edit: you can have a look at my polarsteps travel blog for some more tips or just to check out the route we've taken :-) here's the link: https://www.polarsteps.com/SamZirbes/22893-
> you simply won’t be able to make it between many chargers.
Doesn't seem to be true. People have managed New York to Los Angeles and coast to coast in Canada in an Audi e-tron.
Hey there, thanks for reaching out!
Oh man, Mexico is insanely rad and there are almost too many great places to count. We’re taking a year total, and just shy of three months in Mexico.
We started with the Baja drive, and then took the ferry from La Paz to Mazatlan. Our entire route up to this point is mapped out on our Polarsteps (you should get this app for your trip), check it out here for info on the spots we stayed. There isn’t one we wouldn’t recommend:

If you're going up towards the Maritime side of Quebec, I HIGHLY suggest you check Le Bic - it's along the drive to Gaspésie. It's a beautiful park, and there are many camping options available.
Here's my trip I did there back in 2020 with my ex: https://www.polarsteps.com/PhilippeBaird/3759563-parc-national-du-bic
I've been looking for a long time for a self-hosting alternative to travel journals like polarsteps or findpenguins to keep a travel history and share trips with a blog. Currently no solution really meets this need, the need had already been expressed in a post on /r/selfhosted.
In order for it to be fully effective while traveling it also requires an application.
Would some of you be interested in developing such a tool? I am obviously ready to help develop the ultimate tool.
[Day 124 - Tajikistan]

I will be posting an image of each country's trains in their national sub-reddits, one each day in alphabetical order, starting on 20/08/20, because I am a sad train nerd with nothing better to do.
Note - countries with no active railways will not be included.
Sounds amazing!! I've only been in the Eastern part, so can't really say much about the whole country. That should be the safest part though. Yucatan is great, and the area around San Cristobal as well! You can find my itinerary here if you like!
Polarsteps is the app your looking for. Kinda surprising that you guys never heard about it...
Here's an example if you want to have a general idea
With printed photos, you can create a photo book pretty easily! See the images I shared above
Another option could be Polar steps: https://www.polarsteps.com/travel-book
You'll need to manually add in your trips, which could take a while. But once you've done that I think they auto-create a book for you and the prices don't look bad at all
I have a Giulietta too! I’d thoroughly recommend the trip to Italy. We found everyone to be super friendly. You’re welcome to look at my trip and see my route if it’s helps with inspiration. We did a variation of Airbnb’s and hotels, including a treehouse in France and the Fiat factory at Lingotto which is now a hotel and shopping centre.

I worked at a company last year making VERY VERY VERY good money.. building walk-in coolers.
But I travelled ALL OVER the world.
https://www.polarsteps.com/ChrisMoore3
See?
Well.. When I was in California for 78 days.. 70 of those days was 100% by myself..
By myself?
By myself.
I would go to my hotel.. by myself.
Wake up and go to work and work alone. All day..
Come back to my hotel.. by myself..
You get the point.
SO! I took that time.. started doing push-ups (now I do between 50 - 200 a day.. I do reps of 50.. and usually elevate my legs at least 5 or 6 inches.. Sometimes a foot or so..)
I also went deep inside my head and battled ALLLL of my demons...
Well. The MAJOR ones..
The ones now are just ...basically getting to know "happy me"..
Because I'm 68% different than depressed alcoholic me that existed last year.lol
And along the way, I paid off my 50k in debt.. Paid off anyone I owed money to (and then some..); paid off everything...
bought myself a $4,000 laptop...
bought myself a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo (my dream car..)
It's a piece of shit but I can't afford to fix it up right now..lol
But it also drives so smoothly.. it's just insane.. I love it so much..
But with my extra money...
I gave it all the fuck away...
Because fuck "society"...lol.
Oh, then I quit the job.
:D
> I don't yet trust the EA network enough to drive halfway across the country using it
People have done it. This man drove his Audi e-tron across Canada and then across the US using all the chargers available to him, Electrify America or otherwise.
If anyone wants to see the whole trip, routes, pictures etc click this link. Also, it's a really great tool for anyone who is road tripping. https://www.polarsteps.com/TheEsterhuizen/2443099-usa-road-trip?s=50eef5b8-b81f-4f21-8797-56d5306e97df
Thanks a lot, I'm planning to go over in the coming month through either the Khunjerab Pass or by catching a flight to Lahore. When you say South West is Peshawar is fine?
I don't really blog haha but I keep a polarsteps just to see where I've been
Traveled in August, sometimes (alot) of rain that last only for a couple of hours. Was refreshing, and didn’t mind it, because it was still 30 degrees.
Northeren part is (still) ok in August, Hoi an (middle part) is fine all year around.
Take a look at my route I did last year:
Yes very doable! Just need time. I have a tomtom rider which can easily make routes along twisty roads so all day you are just riding amazing curves. If i didn't have to rest/eat/sleep I would spent my whole trip just riding. Endless bliss! :) highways are jusy wasted time. Yes you will get to your destination quicker but I think the old saying "it's about the journey, not the destination" is super relevant on a motorcycle trip. Better spent a whole day to get 250km further but enjoy every minute of it than be exhausted after riding 750km of highway in a day! If you are interested, you can check my trip here: https://www.polarsteps.com/LieweGutter/875814-motorcycle-europe-trip
Also on stitcher available as "catch the flight back home". On polarsteps you can track day by day gps locations https://www.polarsteps.com/DaviddeVries2/780864-catch-the-flight-back-home?s=9968D50B-3A06-41A0-B263-89F608528AAF
These sounds were recorded during the month of March 2017 throughout a 3 weeks trip dedicated to the sonic capture.
The library comprises all aspects of the mainland Ecuadorian life, with the 3 geographical tropes: the coast, the highlands (Sierra) and the jungle (Oriente), along with diverse urban settings (in the capital city Quito, and in diverse town size, coastal, Andean and Amazonian)
The itinerary on Polar Steps:📷
I'm in the US right now, total length of my stay in the US will be 3 months and I'm 28 days in. In that time I made it from Vancouver to Los Angeles and spent around AU$3k (not including the flight). I could definitely have done everything cheaper and/or quicker but I took my time and enjoyed myself in each place I've been, did expensive shit too like snowboarding in Whistler and strip clubs in Portland etc. The US is fucking incredible to travel, I did Europe 2 years ago and so far it doesn't even compare (and I loved a lot of places in Europe).
I'm under 25 so renting a car is stupid expensive and I haven't done it yet, it's been very feasible so far to take Greyhounds or the AMTRAK, especially if you do it overnight and can sleep on them (save a night's worth of hostel money, don't waste time traveling during the day, just wake up at your destination, fucking excellent would recommend to anyone), but many of the more nature-y places you want to visit will be hard without a car. I'm going to the Grand Canyon (AMTRAK from Vegas to Flagstaff) but aside from that I'm really only visiting cities, seems like if you want to do the whole National Park thing my way of getting around probably won't work.
Here's the rest of my "itinerary" (didn't book anything other than the one way flight to Vancouver and a flight out of the US, which they WILL ask you about when you enter the US, a return flight or proof of onwards travel is a must) if you're interested. Any questions you have please ask, I'd love to help someone have even half as great of an experience as I've been having so far :)

I was blown away by two things: the upper parts of Sweden, Finland and Norway which were so desolate and empty and the second was the upper Norwegian coast. Mostly up until the Lofoten, but I liked Senja, which is comparable to the Lofoten, more because there were less tourists.
Sorry to hear that bro :-( I'm back home again after 18 months of traveling and I'm depressed here too if that makes you feel a bit better. :p
I blogged my entire trip trough Asia here: https://www.polarsteps.com/SamZirbes/22893- you can see the vietnam roadtrip in there too :-)
I was looking for a similar app for my trip last summer. There is an app for iOS called Polarsteps (https://www.polarsteps.com/) which is supposed to do something like this. Still hoping for an Android app by the time I'm going to do another trip next summer.
