When I play Slither, I go by Snakey McSnakeFace. It's boring that there's no way to talk to other players. I have no idea if others think it funny, find it annoying, or don't notice at all.
Quick little browser games are nice. :) I used to play Nibbles back in the day. It was a QBasic game that came with MS DOS 5.0, up to 2 players at once. Got bored and started doing Combat Nibbles with my friend where you intentionally tried to cut off the other guy. Another good snake game Slither.io if you haven't tried it yet.
Did you actually try going to the website? http://slither.io - can also just click 'play now' on the right.
But yes, it's free.
To get extra skins (as well as the option to choose your own skin), click "share on Facebook" or "share on Twitter" on the game's splash screen. I don't believe you actually have to go through with the share; I'm pretty sure you can just click the link then back out of it.
Just a web-based snake clone. You can play it just by clicking on that link. The thing that makes it awesome is it's multiplayer. I laughed like a drain once when I trapped a player by encircling them, then noticed someone had caught me the same way... and then noticed that they themselves had been trapped.
You know what.. I'm away for a quick game now
Snake game, have spent hours at work playing this. If you run into another snake you die and become snake food, If someone runs into you they die and you can eat them to become larger. Circle smaller snakes to trap them. Click to go faster once you gain some length.
Edit: Great, now I'm playing slither.io again.
Was so entertaining. Circling smaller sneks until they either give up or run into me. Then chomping them up in one bite. Super addictive! I stopped just now after an hour of playing. And I've already hyped myself back up to play again. ~400 people on while I was playing, got to 2nd then some little 5-10 length just zoomed past me it was unbelievable.
Was just about to post a quick screenshot of this too. Been playing this for a week or two now and it's only just popped up tonight. Looks like a "K", if that means anything? And found whatever this is http://slither.io/s/kwk6.png
Okay, kind of figured out how to get it. I'm using Chrome. F12 and ctrl+f for KWK and it highlighted one line that I clicked on, and it changed my pattern to it. Still no idea what it is, new secret skin?
Donald Trump's been my inspiration to kick ass at Slither.io.
I start it up, get inside the moment and allow my intuition to guide me. No thought, no fear, just pure Zen focus. Thanks to Trump, I'm always thinking two steps ahead if not more. The opposition is playing checkers while I'm playing chess.
By the time other players think they've outpaced me to snatch up all of another snake's orbs, I've either walled them in, or, if I'm the underdog, have already set them up to collide with me.
Snakes of all sizes are no match for this nimble navigator. This centipede is a predator.
Hey that's actually a pretty fun game! And the coin itself seems to be exploding since yesterday.
Though indeed, not comparable to GU.
If I were to compare crypto royale to something, it'd be like http://slither.io/ but with balls insteade, and on the blockchain. Not a bad game
No mod. I'm just on slither.io. I refreshed the page and it's back to normal. I played it for a bit just to see how well I could do. I got up to around 1750 before I got bored and killed myself so that I could play normally.
I don't fully understand what you mean, but shaders like that are quite useful in 2D games. You can see how the same idea is applied here for the background: <http://slither.io/>.
Here is how it looks in my own game: <https://gfycat.com/idolizedtalkativeaquaticleech>. I use a bigger texture that I scale up even more which hides the seams.
You can also modify the shader to do some really nice effects. They have a good showcase for Awesomenauts: <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnv903yppJ8>.
People of reddit, I'm looking for multi user web apps that are fun for families, friends, coworkers during these trying times. My Google-fu is failing me. What are some others you’re aware of?
Hello u/RomanLegate, it appears you tried to put a link in a title, since most users cant click these I have placed it here for you
^I ^am ^a ^bot ^if ^you ^have ^any ^suggestions ^dm ^me
Hey thanks. One game I find particularly cool is slither.io (if you're unfamiliar with it, it's a multiplayer browser game where users grow snake/worm creatures by eating randomly spawning dots / avoiding collisions).
Would these technologies be appropriate to build toward making something like this (numerous players, web based, 2D graphics, simple mechanics)
This is going to make me sound tragically young, but I listen to American Author’s song "Believer" or "Despacito". I first heard these songs back in summer 2017, when I was in middle school and played tons of slither.io and crappy flash web games. When I hear these songs, it takes me back to those nights of overheating computers, neon worms on black screens, fidget spinners beneath fluorescent nights, and no stressing about test scores.
http://slither.io/ and Cards against humanity for browser only. If one of you has Keep talking and nobody explodes you get hours of fun that doesn't even require a browser.
Just saw your edit. Yes, you're right, raw ICMP versus HTTP does make a difference. For example here's raw ICMP to the main slither game site…
$ fping -c 4 -s slither.io slither.io : [0], 84 bytes, 27.6 ms (27.6 avg, 0% loss) slither.io : [1], 84 bytes, 26.8 ms (27.2 avg, 0% loss) slither.io : [2], 84 bytes, 27.0 ms (27.1 avg, 0% loss) slither.io : [3], 84 bytes, 26.5 ms (27.0 avg, 0% loss)
slither.io : xmt/rcv/%loss = 4/4/0%, min/avg/max = 26.5/27.0/27.6
1 targets 1 alive 0 unreachable 0 unknown addresses
0 timeouts (waiting for response) 4 ICMP Echos sent 4 ICMP Echo Replies received 0 other ICMP received
26.5 ms (min round trip time) 27.0 ms (avg round trip time) 27.6 ms (max round trip time) 3.038 sec (elapsed real time)
Compare that to the actual HTTP response time from the main slither game site…
$ httping -c 4 http://slither.io/ PING slither.io:80 (/): connected to 104.20.23.135:80 (435 bytes), seq=0 time= 76.02 ms connected to 104.20.23.135:80 (294 bytes), seq=1 time= 70.40 ms connected to 104.20.23.135:80 (298 bytes), seq=2 time= 71.89 ms connected to 104.20.23.135:80 (294 bytes), seq=3 time= 67.25 ms --- http://slither.io/ ping statistics --- 4 connects, 4 ok, 0.00% failed, time 4287ms round-trip min/avg/max = 67.3/71.4/76.0 ms
Yes it will take over the casual market but that market will start looking totally comparable to steam. Input lag is not as big of a deal as people think. Games like this are streamed from a server and you can hardly even tell http://slither.io/
I get you but I wouldn't be surprised if 50% of Steam users have good enough internet. I tried to look at their hardware survey but it doesn't really collect this.
>why will future generations not care about input lag? Because so many games won't need twitch input. Arn't games like http://slither.io/ streamed from a server? The lag really isn't that big of a deal.
I have a 1060 and have noticed the same thing. I thought there was DTC latency or something, so I attempted to use some of the online guides to isolate what might be causing it. It doesn't appear to be DTC latency related, though it is a bit higher than I'd expect, but not too high that it's an issue.

One thing I did notice, is that in troubleshooting, I disabled my video card in device manager and then loaded http://slither.io and while the driver is enabled it stutters and is jumpy, with the card disabled it's smooth.
I think it's the Nvidia driver, so hopefully they get it sorted out. I've been considering building a new machine, so I guess I may buy an AMD card this time around and see what happens.
My boyfriend was playing a game last night called Slither. Basically it's Snake, except you play against other people and try not to crash into them, but get them to crash into you as you grow your snake. Looked fun, but it's blocked at my work and I can't try it out.
Thats what I was wondering. I haven't heard the term before but it must mean an online game with an .io url - http://slither.io/ would be a famous example. They tend to be easy-to-get-into multiplayer browser games.
http://slither.io - simple multiplayer browser game with a leader board that's easy to play and learn. You have a snake that gets bigger as you eat dots and you can hold the mouse button for a speed boost (at the cost of points/length). You can kill other players by making them run into you and when they die they turn into a bunch of dots that gets you massive very quickly. The bigger the player the more dots they turn into when they die.
There is something about slowly wrapping yourself around another, smaller, helpless player that gives you a satisfying feeling of superiorty as you assert your dominance and bring forth thier inevitable demise. Especially when they are some kid named ChadBroChill99

Insurgency, Stalker series with mods, FTL, Ringrunners, Wasteland 2, Mount & Blade Warband... keeps me busy
But I keep playing these .io games recently, like this http://starblast.io and http://slither.io
Can confirm. You start with the basics like Slither.io. Then you move onto to something where you can save your progress and actually achieve things, like Initium. Then you try No Man's Sky, and realize it's crap. So you set out to make your own game with a procedurally generated universe.
10 years later, who knows where you are in the rabbithole.
I'm sorry you're having a hard time right now. :( Here's the sites I use when I feel really bad:
https://www.calm.com/ - I use this site for nice sounds/background. The site also has a bunch of guided meditations.
http://slither.io/ - it's a snake-like game where you eat little multi-coloured pellets and grow bigger. It's crazy addictive and helps soothe me if I'm having a shit day.
If neither of those sites are your kind of thing, you could try having a look at this article - 16 Calming Websites
Hope that helps.
Some podcasts i like:
i don't play many games, the only one i've gotten hooked on recently is the low-fi multiplayer Tron / Snake mash-up Slither: http://slither.io/
oh and a couple of TV series worth checking out:
...hope something in there helps!
Google's Chrome OS will soon be adding a way to use Google Play Store, similar to Android devices, on those systems (Chromebooks, Chromeboxes and Chromebases). Devices costing as little as $100 will soon have the following features,
5-8 second boot up times
OS updates that take 5-10 seconds
Malware free
Android Games plus native browser/Chrome games like slither.io and Quake
All current and most likely future video/music streaming apps
Data/settings can be stored by default to the Google cloud and optionally synced to the Amazon cloud, so data backup and loss aren't something to continually stress about. Drop your Chromebook in the ocean, go to the store and buy a new one, open it up, turn it on, log in, and in less than 30 seconds you are right where you left off, possibly even the keystroke you were on.
Chrome OS isn't for everyone as it doesn't run Steam/Origin games or specialized industry apps, but for a lot of people it makes little sense to go through all the hassle of Windows. I got all my computer illiterate relatives Chrome OS machines and the only calls I get are why can't I install this spyware on my computer that will eliminate my debt?
Unfortunately their extension seems to break some sites that use the canvas extensively, like agar.io or slither.io. I'm guessing this is an unintended side effect of the extension, rather than an unavoidable artifact of fingerprint spoofing as a whole?
It isn't a flash game but I play this when ever I'm in the mood for a game online. It's called Slither IO it's a game based on growth, you are spawned as a snake and have to eat food to extend the length and width of your snake. While eating the food to extend your snakes size you have to watch out for the other players that are playing do not kill you. To kill another player you must make them crash into your snake, when death is brought upon you or them all the food they/you have collected from the floor and/or other snakes will drop for them/you to pick up. The game continues until you die, once you die you will be given a option to respawn and yes it's a multiplayer game. If you're planning to play with friends then get this add-on to chrome and have your friend give you his/her gamer ID and you can connect to each other. Having this add-on will also allow you to connect to servers which are best for your location.
Survived US History EOC, got what I assume is a perfect attendance award, the wait for new Steven Universe episodes is killing me, got a fake Blizzard email from someone in China, and I got addicted to slither.io.
