What do you want to use the machine for, if I may ask? Because honestly, cheap sewing machines are cheap for a reason. They tend to eat thinner fabric, tangle up threads and then jam pretty easily or just flat out refuse to sew more than one layer of a thicker fabric (like jeans). Their engines tend to break faster and cannot be repaired.
If you just want to hem curtains or sew a handful of cotton masks, a Singer from Lidl will probably be okay. Lidl Luxembourg sells them occasionally but I think you can also get the entry level Singers at Hobbi Cactus or Conforama. Brother has an entry level machine for 100€ as well and there is a brick and mortar store near Paris Zitha. I also heard good things about Gritzner which you can get for 100€ on Amazon. I have never used one though.
If you want to do anything more than that, you might be better served getting a second hand machine off Ebay or Facebook Market Place. Brother, Janome and Pfaff are all reputable brands.
I recommend you check out Bisq.
It's P2P, anonymous, no KYC, opensource, decentralized, runs over Tor.
This way your transfers will only be to other peers and not a centralized exchange and so there's no real way to censor them.
Can only say that Post have been great for me. Nearly two years and I haven't noticed any service interruptions or degradation. Just done a fast.com check and it reports 640/260, more than I'm paying for (500/250) and that seems to be common. Might not be the cheapest but it does what it says on the tin.
The mobile application (Luxtrust Mobile) that you can install on your iPhone or Android smartphone has 8 digits. It's very convenient because you don't have to carry the token everywhere. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.LuxTrustMobile
I think the "Luxtrust Scan" product will also generate a 8 digit OTP.
How long will you be staying? There is the youth hostel in the old town. You mentioned airBnB, have you tried browsing a little bit on the site? You should definitely be able to find things under €200 a night.
Edit: Great, now I'm playing slither.io again.
Moien! I think it was /u/pa79 who started something a while back, but I can’t find the thread anymore. It’s 19% done on Transifex, lb.reddit.com still doesn’t look very Lëtzebuergesch though. You can probably use the German as a reference in many cases.
You could stay in a cute airbnb maybe? Disclaimer: the owners are relatives.
If you two are going for dinner in the Grund, go to Vins Fins.
You’re interested in cycling I see? PM me if you’re interested in a tour.
Thank you for your responses. I really appreciate it.
I may have used the wrong terminology. The domain was registered first with another provider and I wanted to transfer the domain hosting to WP for simplicity but according to their documentation, it didn't seem possible so I asked their Chat Support and this was their response "We don't support all the domains extensions to register. But, you can use the domain as your site address if it's pointed to <em>WordPress.com</em>" . Again, I might be using the wrong terminology but it appears that two companies will be needed - WP and whoever is chosen for the domain hosting.
Again, thank you.
Did you already look at airbnb.com? The cheapest listings in the city center start at around 40€/night.
Edit: You can also try the Expats de Lux group on Facebook.

.LU domains are 26,33€ at Gandi : https://www.gandi.net/domaine/prix/detail/lu/
I have a few domains there - not the cheapest but probably the most reliable one : https://www.gandi.net/no-bullshit?lang=en
Ah yes, Kerbal Space Program ... I have yet to finish the tutorial. I doubt I will ever reach Mun.
I'm more into EvE online myself.
5G coverage in Luxembourg ranges from rubbish to non-existent: https://www.nperf.com/en/map/LU/2960316.Luxembourg/242.POST/signal/
Can't comment re Post or LOL, I imagine they're both similar/same as far as service level. FWIW I have Post and they seem to have been 100% in nearly two years, can't honestly say there's been any service interruptions, but are you sure you need 1 gbps?
I had a promo of 1 gbps for 6 months at the start of my contract (and, yes, I got 1 gbps from servers that could support it), after which the contracted speeds dropped to 250/100 and guess what? I never noticed any difference. I shouldn't be surprised, even in my last house with 78 mbps VDSL I never noticed any problems with slowdown or buffering/inconsistent streaming.
Now, if you torrent all day (is that still a thing?), absolutely need to download 50+ terabytes a month, and know that the sites can support those kinds of speeds then fine, but we are pretty heavy users (5 PCs, 1 server, PS4, Switch, 2x4K TVs, 2x HDTV all on gigabit ethernet through a reasonable managed switch, plus all the usual wifi iPads, iPhones etc., all TV is IPTV) and there was never a problem on 250 mbps.
I even tried to 'worse case' it by streaming 4K/1080p everywhere, and trying to download stuff on multiple PCs and there was really no discernible impact. Maybe some of the downloads were running at 60 mbps instead of 95, but that's hardly important in the real world. It was actually hard to keep the test going as stuff would just download too quickly to ensure they were all concurrent! In fact, many servers (Sony, I'm looking at you) struggle to saturate even a 100 mbps connection, and the PS4 is often the node that downloads most with 25GB day one patches etc.
Post have now bumped the 250/100 package up to 500/250 but fast.com reports speeds around 6-700 mbps. Just excessive really.
Fiber is not the only option. I don't have fiber but I have honest 500Mb downstream / 50Mb Upstream via cable connection.
Wifi connection is a tricky. First of all I would switch to 5GHz Wifi. If might happen that router doesn't have separate names network for 2.4GHz and 5GHz - in this case it can be configured to use separate names and you can choose what network use for connection.
If it doesn't work or if you already use 5GHz then you should check which channels are used by your wifi network. It also can be configured via the router admin interface. By default it is set to auto but you can set in manually. I usually download application called "Wi-fi Analyzer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vrem.wifianalyzer&hl=en&gl=US) and it shows how many wifi network do you have around and what are the power. Then it is possible to setup channel manually what you think is less used. Please notice that for 2.4GHz you should use only 1-2, 6-7 and 11-12 channel. If you use intermediate channels (like 4 or 9) - most probably you connection will be very bad.
VPN and IPlayer? Or VPN and ITV hub, whichever side it’s on. Both UK streaming services seem to overload easily, expect buffering, but I found the most reliable stream (again, with a VPN) was the online German TV feed, TechRadar had some links.
NordVPN seems to work better than others I’ve tried.
Yes, but RTL doesn‘t show the Euro.
What you can do if you have a foreign phone, use your data to watch the livestream of a foreign TV. I am doing this when I‘m abroad but want to watch FLF.
It‘s a long shot, but try Belgian TV livestream… maybe it‘s not geoblocked because the package could include Lux. No guarantee though, UEFA are greedy bastards.
But seriously, get yourself NordVPN for one month and you can stream as much Euro as you want. It will cost you 10 € but worth it for me.
A lot of people mention sub-par French as a drawback. There is a number of companies around Luxembourg that don't use French as their language. Amazon and Goodyear come to my mind as the biggest ones in that category, but there are many smaller ones as well. French does open extra doors, but it's not a deal-breaker in Lux. IMHO, it's importance is even less significant in the IT/software since these domains are essentially English speaking to start with. I know a few stories where people were hired with English and German in a French speaking company. You can pick the language up through osmosis of a company-sponsored course later on.
Since Luxembourg is such a small place, the best way of getting hired is knowing someone in the company you'd be interested in working for and simply asking them for a recommendation. In most cases people will be happy to do that since companies pay referral bonuses. That way you skip the CV screening and often fly directly to a person with the power to hire you.
At a more general level - it's tough to say what the crux of your job hunting problem is from the description. It's a complex process and the devil is often in the details.
I'd recommend 'What color is is your parachute?' by Richard Bolles to go through all those. https://www.amazon.com/What-Color-Your-Parachute-2019/dp/0399581685
They've been on that for ages. Very occasionally, like twice in 18 months, the BBC manage to block all or some of the UK IPs that ExpressVPN use, but it's usually only a few days until they allocate new addresses and it is sorted.
if you get too cold. you could get these:
https://www.amazon.com/Thermopad-Sole-Warmers-Original-Warmer/dp/B00N84S82C
they exist for hands as well..
I am also from a tropical country and the cold once you get used to it.. its okay. the winters are mild.. with some snow a few days per year...
you will not be standing outside for long periods of time.. the public transport tends to turn the heating to the max in winter and the air-co to the max in summer.
offices are also well heated.
sneakers may not be the best indeed.
if i were you. i would go to messancy outlet shopping and get a couple of shoes...preferably this week with the black friday stuff.. you could get timberland way cheaper than retail price practiced in Luxembourg..
honestly just get a VPN (like NordVPN) and set yourself to Germany and then you can watch all the games on the individual channels' website and livestream (ARD, ZDF, Sat.1, etc). Same goes for french channels. From there, just put your pc/ipad/laptop on to your tv via hdmi or whatever is possible in your house.
check this day and night for the bargain..
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/106411452727638/propertyrentals
and ask your colleagues maybe they are moving and agree to recommend you to their current landord and you skip the agence.
I had the same issue with my OnePlus 8T. Using the Samsung Band Selection, I am now able to use 5G on my phone.
Here is the link to the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ray.samsungbandselection
It's under "more network settings". You need to select the NR/LTE/GSM/WCDMA.
You can hire specialist (but really a specialist as it's easy to damage it) that will come with polishing rotary stones. They look like this link and are to be used with water. It requires practice to use it. It is used to remove a very small layer of stone material by friction.
Practice is required to make an uniform surface of required quality and to not add more burn marks or "holes"
Not to get into a debate about English-language sports etymology, but "football" originally meant a ball sport played on foot rather than on horseback. So if we want to get technical, we could call it "university-level American rules gridiron football" (to distinguish it from, say, a match between the University of Calgary Dinos and the McGill Redbirds with a slightly different ball, three downs, 12 players, forward motion, rouges, and a centerline). Or we could just let it slide.
Sports!
TJ, I'm in KC, but I have had success when traveling using VPN services + my streaming services. The key is to start the VPN before opening browsers. I use ExpressVPN. Not sure what services actually block VPN usage, and I'm not sure how they would really do that, but apparently it's a thing?
It works reliably if your connection is good enough, this determines the reliability first and foremost.
I normally play in the Netherlands, but when in Luxembourg I connect to using NordVPN via the Netherlands. After login the VPN can be disconnected and cloud gaming will work normally.
I exclusively play it on Chrome on my laptop, I've heard on r/xcloud that using it via the Xbox App on PC or directly on the console is prone to more lags and connectivity issues.
We buy from Amazon and get it delivered, my wife is Japanese and she approves the flavour. There are many organic choices as well. Just get to know what you want, sweet or non-sweet?
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07CZYND16/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is the one we use, just for your reference.
Agree, but I was replying to the foolish claim yhat vaccinated people protect the non-vaccinated, which is true for a very limited period of time before immunity wanes and transmission occurs again.
Both Vax and non-vaxed carry the same viral load. You largely overestimated the benefit of vaccine. The main purpose is to protect you from severe disease and relieve the hospital ICU.
https://www.amazon.in/Minirin-Bottle-of-15-Tablets/dp/B082MFZPW2
this is a human medication , however i have to buy it for my dog, so no insurance or CNS, in Luxembourg the price is 45 eur for 15 pills, after CNS you pay 8-9 EUR, in India the retail price by default is 5.5 EUR.
So for those who have CNS, it's still 200% of retail price compared to India and for me without CNS, it's 45 eur, almost 8-9x of price.
Mullvad is great. And they don't require any email or even password since it automatically generates an account number (similar to a credit card number). Just don't lose the number as you probably can't recover the account if you do.
They take payment cards but they also accept crypto and even cash in the mail.
ExpressVPN has been fine for me for the last five years
Fast, works on almost every kind of device and I've had very few issues, most of which are caused by over-zealous geoblocking from the likes of iPlayer and which affect every VPN.
I used NordVPN for a really long time, but was having too many issues with it on Windows recently, so i finally switched to Mullvad and couldn't be happier. Highly recommended. It doesn't have quite all the features that NordVPN has, but at least the ones i need work flawlessly instead of breaking after every update.
Thank you. I did buy a gravity-fed filter actually of Purewell brand. It's similar to the Doulton you shared. Good advice, thank you. I might buy their consumables in the future.
However wow I'd never seen that Skotti design before, super clever. I haven't got to the prep phase of cooking solutions when there's no electricity but will put that onto my list, since it's really elegant -- and like you said can be used for camping or SHTF relocation, if we can drive.
Right now I'm focused on a stay-at-home prep (flood, food shortages, etc) rather than bug-out, though, so a non portable gas BBQ would do the job in a stay-home situation. Much appreciate.
Any other nifty tips like these two youv'e given are much appreciated.
Agreed, on the do it yourself. If it’s a euro lock it takes less than 2 mins to take it out by unscrewing one screw and turning the key until it slides out. You then measure the existing one to the centre of the moving part on both sides. The only gotcha is to make sure the end of the lock does not stick out from your door - the easiest way in is by snapping locks. YouTube is your friend as mentioned.
The bit I’d add to is there is a difference in security between these things ands it’s hard to know what that difference is if you don’t know a bit about locks. I’m an amateur picker, I can be through a low security door lock in a minute or so, faster if I’m lucky. A mid to high security abus can take me 5 mins if I’m lucky, but I fail 4 out of 5 times, I also need specialist tools.
I would choose something like this - https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Profile-Cylinder-D6XNP-Keycard-482977/dp/B00ID3LUXW/ref=sr_1_2?crid=4CP3IJKE0F8R&keywords=Abus+d6&qid=1647889017&sprefix=abus+d6%2Caps%2C191&sr=8-2 great balance between cheap and higher security than most have.
Shame, I would help you out, but we're leaving for our Holiday soon and will be gone most of the time you're here.
Your best bet would indeed be a youth hostel, they are quite cheap. If you don't like sleeping in the same room with strangers (I know I wouldn't), you can always try the Ibis Hotels (e.g. this one, their rooms are quite low quality, but also the cheapest hotels you can find, at around 50-70€ per night (which if you ask me is WAY overpriced for the quality and location you get...).
Other than that, as you said, couch surfing is always an option, although it's not very common in Luxembourg and it might prove hard to find a place to stay.
Well, good luck and have a nice stay in Luxembourg!
5G coverage is spotty at best anyway: https://www.nperf.com/en/map/5g
Luxembourg's 5G network operates under the 700 MHz and 3.6Ghz frequency bands which are both supported by the Pixel 5 and 6/6 Pro. Device certification still depends on the individual luxembourgish carriers and as they've managed to certify two initial manufacturers for VoLTE and haven't added any to the list since, I wouldn't hold my breath.
5G should work. It's just basically not available anywhere. Here's a map that tells you where, more or less, 5g is available: https://www.nperf.com/en/map/LU/2960316.Luxembourg/242.POST/signal/?ll=49.59759661811554&lg=6.134748458862306&zoom=16
I have a pixel 6 but haven't really been paying attention to whether I ever catch 5g.. I'll be around Gare tomorrow so I'll see if I remember and drop a comment ;)
i know it probaly doesn't belong here but...
i checked how much you pay fixed land line in internet in luxembourg...
if i am not mistaken is
40 eur for 20mbit ... while in italy(milan) is 20-25 eur for 10mbit
70-110 eur for 1 gigabit ... while in italy(milan) is 30-35 eur for 1 gigabit.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
30 eur month i got this: https://www.speedtest.net/result/9506384356
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luxembourg Online is one with lowest price, as alternative i saw good price for orange.
(not as good as those sold in milan)
There's a dude on facebook that does builds as a hobby, so you can probably talk to him about parts and assembly ( linking to one his sales https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/311395749999172 ).
Not sure he handles after-sales, though I'm also unsure what exactly you'd need that for.
Equally, if you feel like ordering it yourself and assembling it, I can walk you through what to buy, what to avoid and what works best for your use case. I'm also a hobbyist PC Builder.
It's not so simple to compare. Biggest impact on cost of life in Luxembourg is rent, but there's more. Also, what you get for these taxes you're paying also varies! Don't forget that they don't evaporate in thin air ;)
Nexten is publishing a yearly study on this, maybe have a look: https://www.slideshare.net/mobile/EricBUSCH/salary-study-2019-software-developer-luxembourg-paris-brussels
Amazon has some options, https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Espresso-Classico-Confezioni-Cioccolatini-1000042175/dp/B002Z3NG10/ price seems rather normal (~2EUR/pack of 62g) but you need to buy in bulk :)
Vaccinated, boosted, and wearing a properly-fitted N95/FFP2 mask whenever near people or indoors. I'm a big fan of the tri-fold masks like the 3M Aura or these.
I ended buying this one: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/product/B07171N3RX/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&th=1
thanks
What type of earplugs do you use? I used to have a problem with church bells ringing at 6am. I found a type of earplugs which worked a lot better for me and usually enabled me to sleep through it. Here they are:
Luxembourg is actually highly rated on the internet connectivity front: https://www.tradeandinvest.lu/news/luxembourg-ranks-2nd-in-eu-for-digital-connectivity/
So I guess you're either part of the relatively few unlucky people for whom fiber doesn't reach their house/apartment, or you've actually got a much better connection than you think comparatively to other countries, which I guess says a lot about how bad it could be...
Speedtest.net ranks Luxembourg broadband speeds 19th out of 176: https://www.speedtest.net/global-index/luxembourg#fixed
I've read quite many not so nice reviews of Furnished especially if there happen to be any issues during your stay, and in general the common approach from anyone I asked seemed to be to avoid them if you can.
These are some I read: Trustpilot, Google reviews (I hope the link works), there's also some reddit discussion you can find with googling that I cant link from mobile for some reason.
Sorry for the late answer.
Basic overview about what?
I mean, if you want to understand how the different regimes work- which is important to understand the rest - then I would suggest this book right here: here.https://www.amazon.de/dp/353117309X/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_192FRWJA57Y674NM0D5D
This is a very good overview, very well written, but it's german so let my know if that's okay.
After reading this you can dive into some political theories.
Rousseau's volonté générale is a good read, the federalists, the anti-federalists, John Locke, Karl Marx, Jürgen Habermas, Michel Foucault.
After reading those, you can try yourself with modern theories like: https://www.amazon.com/Democracy-Incorporated-Managed-Inverted-Totalitarianism/dp/069114589X
There are a lot more, but if you reading these books, keep in mind, Thats just a theory and a biased opinion, it's not necessary the truth.
Don't get radicalized by them pls.
They still sell them at some gas stations in Grevenmacher (can’t specify which one, sadly). I’d recommend trying the german equivalent. I can’t guarantee that it tastes the same though. You can get them here
We have the same problem. It's definitely a structural design. The walls where the mold appears are super cold and damp. A few things you could do:
Buy a dehumidifier. Something simple like this will do:https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07ZVWCDPC?th=1
Make sure you remove the mold when it forms before it spreads with a bleach and water solution. (Don't use this on surfaces you can't clean with bleach, e.g wooden surfaces)
I suspect that many of the old construction in Luxembourg will have similar problems.
yeah, that's almost the only way you can have it on your phone in LU. But if you do, it will work (until an update that breaks it...).
EDIT: yeah, they sell cars here with Android Auto installed. Even if it is not officially supported. Some cars can have it retrofitted officially in a dealership too.

Hey everyone, thank you once more for your help :) If you are interested in my results, you can find my thesis on the following link: https://www.academia.edu/29026143/Multilingualism_in_Luxembourg.pdf
Might be expensive. Data Science guys can grab EUR5000/month net after tax from any of the buildings in Kirchberg. Why not just begin with someone on Upwork.com? Data scrapers a plenty and quite a couple of them used to be guys working in Kirchberg... ;-)
Good point, it's much clearer on Bing Maps and OpenStreetMap. Seems I need to start a petition to dig up that underground part.
Do you geocache? There are many great caches around here, and many of them take you to places even the locals don't know about.
Where are you in the world? You can get relatively inexpensive flights from the US to near here during winter.
So... this is what I get when I google for "konrads": http://konradcafe.com/
Any more info? Where is that place? What region? North? East? South? Centre?
edit: Nevermind... found it: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g190356-d2022497-Reviews-Konrad_Cafe_Bar-Luxembourg_City.html
Never been there. Good chance to find a new place in town. Not 100% certain yet if I will show up. Depends on what happens on Saturday :) Reddit is not on top of my priority list ;)
Any devs or Linux enthusiasts present?
I'm pretty sure You were in Luxembourg :) just not a nice part. Google Maps the following : avenue de la gare or avenue de la liberté
edit: the Gare area
check the "panoramio" pictures and street view.
Most commercial VPNs offer their own in-house client, usually based on either the OpenVPN or WireGuard protocols. The protocol you choose doesn't matter much as long as it's either OpenVPN or WireGuard. (There are other VPN protocols but some have potential security weaknesses and some are closed source which limits the amount of oversight on the code and its functionality.)
Most commercial VPNs also allow you to use other OpenVPN or WireGuard clients than their own by importing config files. This method is more involved but allows users to tailor things to their exact needs. In general the VPN's own in-house client is sufficient for most people.
There are basically two reasons why you might want to connect to the VPN at the router level:
You want to tunnel all the devices on the network through the VPN
You want to use the VPN with a device that doesn't support using a VPN
In your case if you would like to use the VPN for Netflix on the PS4 then you will need a router (or alternatively a WiFi access point) that either has built-in VPN support or is compatible with either DD-WRT or OpenWRT
Alternatively there are ways to achieve the same result using a Raspberry Pi and a WiFi or Ethernet USB dongle, or even by running a VPN client on a computer and sharing the computer's connection with the PS4 (thereby tunneling the PS4 through the VPN), though this last method requires having a computer near the PS4 and keeping it on pretty much any time you're using the PS4.
If you're just trying to use the VPN on a computer, phone, or tablet then the simplest way is to use the VPN's in-house client.
Let me know exactly which configuration you're trying to achieve and I can guide you more precisely.
Deepl.com does a pretty impressive job with automatic translations. I just tried it with a French lease and it was better than Google Translate. It might be good enough to understand what you're signing or a least to identify clauses that need further clarification.
Which also has an app. According to this platform, there is absolutely no 5G in lux yet...
I'm going against the majority here but in my experience the Post network coverage isn't as good in the areas I go to outside of town. That's not to say that their network isn't good but I think it would be a good idea to check their coverage in areas where you may often be. You can check it here and you can also check it with the Ookla Speedtest mobile apps
Not an ADV. Just a comment on where some people are watching EURO20 Google “rojadirecta in english”
http://www.rojadirecta.me/en?p4
It will give you a choice of multiple sports events streaming in different languages.
Euro20 is also there. Select your preferred language/stream. It will open a small window screen and this is when you want to be patient as it will start popping up new screens with advertisements, whenever you will want to adjust the sound level, go in full screen, etc. Just close the new pop-ups and set to the full screen mode.
You will have your game. Profit.
I have been told you can buy it legally in Germany. Another option might be those very loud alarms like this. https://www.amazon.com/Personal-Emergency-Self-Defense-Security-Elders-Blue/dp/B077YJPV5B
My friends teenage son was mugged broad daylight by a group - for his phone. Downtown Lux of course.
Painting them would be extremely expensive and might end up with a crappy finish. The easiest option is vinyl, at least you can't fuck up the finish and it's reversible:
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/DTC-Self-Adhesive-Wallpaper-Kitchen-white/dp/B07S9S7G97
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/6153DLU8IOS._AC_SL1200_.jpg
That's essentially identical to your kitchen.
There are wall sockets with switches but they are not very common and are generally bulky. For example https://www.amazon.de/Legrand-LEG97626-Interrupteur-bo%C3%AEtier-vertical/dp/B015JABW5W/ref=sr\_1\_12
In general people either unplug, use power socket adapters with switches or use power strips with switches.
> Does every electronic just stay plugged in all the time?
Yes.
If you have some appliance that doesn't have its own switch for some reason (or just unplug it), you can use these:
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Brennenstuhl-adapter-protective-increased-protection/dp/B001BAQOM6
You can order it from Amazon.de, covered under Prime
Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands are 230V 50Hz. Other countries in Western Europe should be the same.
You can also get an EU cord for your ac adapter. Like this https://www.amazon.fr/PremiumCord-KPSPM-Noir-câble-électrique/dp/B00AOAIRD8/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=230v+cable+alimentation&qid=1627929438&sr=8-6 That way your EU to NA plug is free and can be used for stuff you only have a NA cord for.
Cheers and have a nice trip 👍
If you are looking for a free solution just for EURO 2021 and don't mind listening to foreign commentary, then:
I second amazon as an option, as i’m currently looking at this one, 2mm thick carbon steel. Maybe you are looking for a round base as well.

I use an OpenWRT router and it works. https://www.amazon.de/Linksys-WRT3200ACM-EU-Wireless-3200Mbit-Ethernet/dp/B01LY0PTO9
Only way I found was using ExpressVPN (into London east, since the other uk locations didn’t let ITV Player work) and watching on my phone. Could be a Pc too.
Without satellite tv, that was only way for me. With cable it’s broadcast on Canal I think.
You can get something basic like this https://smile.amazon.de/dp/B01BVG1XJS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WXTBM6PM0V4SPNZDSE3W
But I'm not sure how accurate it is. Other than that you can feel the wall itself. It may feel damp & cold or even crispy if it has been damp and then dried
There are a couple of apps out there (both for Android and iOs): e.g. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=aurelux.julienkessels.com.aurelux

That's interesting. I've tried your way with NordVPN but it's still not working.
It's not just Channels by the way, there are also certain movies and tv shows on the regular Prime Video site that aren't available here. Bit annoying since we're presumably paying the same amount as German customers.
I use surfshark. I read NordVPN is very good, but they had a security breach at the end of last year so I avoided it .
The why has been answered in other comments.
Just subscribe to a VPN that has LUX IPs (e.g. ExpressVPN), work from your girlfriend's place, and don't tell shit to anyone.
Avoid connecting with your smartphone on company resources, and their IT won't notice a thing.
If you're working with sensitive data (bank etc.), forget about what I said.
Have used ExpressVPN for years, rarely any problems.
Everything except iPlayer works well, but that’s because the BBC are super aggressive about unauthorised access so it’s a constant battle to maintain access.
Besides from hiding your SSID, you can also suggest her using EMF shielding curtains as in the link. She would feel more comfortable.
p.s: This subject is not really matter of telecom companies, because they are really making good money, but there is debate on effects of RF radiation in academia frequently.
Try , you can get a free 30 day evaluation and you can watch the most common TV programs.
To get it working, install a VPN service like ZenMate. Once installed use the Swiss VPN option, then go to and enjoy over 100 channels, most of them in HD. Amongst those you'll find ARD or ZDF if you want to watch in German, RTS1/RTS2/TF1, etc for French, and ITV for English.
Quick edit: Just make sure to use the VPN on the Switzerland setting to use it, as Zattoo is Swiss and has the biggest selection of channels there. Works very well on mobiles and tablets as well (just install Zenmate on your mobile phone, switch to Switzerland, download the Zattoo app and presto)
