Droidcam let's you use the phone main camera as a Webcam via USB. Better than a cheap webcam but probably worse than a Logitech c920.
WiFi would introduce unnecessary input lag. So far I've tested FOIP with my old S4 and I get a solid 60fps using this app with minimal input lag using a USB cable.
Droidcam might work for you.
Uses an android cellphone as a webcam. It has instructions for Linux configuration with Zoom.
https://www.dev47apps.com/droidcam/linux/
Recommend connecting over USB.
that's not going to do what you want it to in any reasonable fashion as its an app based security cam.
If you have an android at your disposal, and are thinking of using OBS, then you can just use Droidcam
If you can distribute Android and Windows devices there's a program called DroidCam that can do the same thing:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en_US
If you guys can wait can you get these from Best Buy?

Consider Droidcam. It's an app you install on your phone that connects to a client you install on your PC and allows you to use your phone's camera as wireless webcam.
I have an old S8+ with a cracked screen laying around, and wanted to join a video chat without holding my phone the whole time.
EpocCam for iOS (disclaimer: I have not used this myself)
Just used this to join my family on Zoom and it worked flawlessly!
As someone who did the same thing last week the app is droidcam.
You install the app in your pc and android then just connect it by your wifi or usb cable.
For the phone part: if it's an android phone you could use DroidCam - after you installed the PC part of the package you'll have a webcam source you can integrate into OBS just like any other webcam with no need for RTMP servers or capturing it back from VLC.
Two ways to do it off the top of my head. Both require two devices running separate instances of Altspace (unless you can run two instances locally, which I don't think you can.)
First option: On the non-VR PC, open altspace and set your character where you want the 'webcam' to be. This character will act as the webcam and you make the call from here. XSplit supports DirectShow which makes it compatible with Skype. Never tried, but it ought to work in Hangouts. Make your call from there, set XSplit as the webcam, hop in the VR rig, and you're set.
Option Two: If XSplit is difficult to set up, do the same as above, but use DroidCam from an Android device to use your phone/tablet as your PC webcam. This is very easy to set up, but obviously it will be recording your monitor instead of the window directly. Using this method, you don't actually need two PCs, since you could theoretically run Altspace on a tablet and then film it with your phone.
Unless there is a way to set up an observer camera, that's all I can think of.
You can actually get more creative than that for webcam use
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
Apply the game enhancer while it runs to throttle it and turn on HS power Control. Maybe even use the selfie shooter instead to save on heat.
Voila
Works on your current phone too if you want to give it a go :)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en_US&gl=US
I think this is as good as we get on Android
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
it has the option of wireless but it's definitely better to use it wired, it'll drain the battery. i also got a gooseneck to clamp to my desk and you'll be able to have the camera pointing at your switch without you needing to hold it up
I've been using DroidCam (link here), it works great! Just taped a phone to the top of my monitor, looks 100x better than a webcam.
DroidCam is the only thing I've ever used for this. Obviously you need to install the driver/application on your computer but once you connect the app to your computer, you should have a functional webcam.

Do you have a PC?
If yes then use an app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en_US&gl=US
(It is on aurora)
Droid Cam, I personally used it for webcam but it also has audio mode only. Bought the pro version as well because it includes some neat features like adjusting zoom or rotating video.
Hope it helps.
Sure thing!
I don't know if it has the microphone feature but there's an app for Android which is DroidCam.
Google Play Link: DroidCam
If we talk about this one. I had some trouble setting it up. But that's most likely on me.
I might give it another try, tho
You can't use the Tabs webcam as a source while using second screen. You can, however, use an app to use your device as a webcam on Windows PC. Not necessarily this app, check around for one that works best for you, but here's an example below.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
Merci!
Webcam solution i find pretty nice is this app i use with my phone https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam is android only didn't look into a ios version as i have never owned a apple product.
I have personally tested and used DroidCam for long 8 hour streaming sessions dozens of times. Well I tested it like twice and paid for the pro version. Used Moto G6, Sony XA2 Ultra and Moto G Stylus. All of which looks way better than my Logitech C922 Webcam. Even use Green Screen. Tested via Wired and Wireless. Wireless on my has no added latency either. I even used it to tag my sister in on stream for example.
This might give you some perspective:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BLgS7m0W94
Before buying an external webcam, check how this works for you.
Use your smartphone as a webcam:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
The image is transmitted wirelessly to a PC application that looks like a webcam to other programs like conference call software. You may want to use it in conjunction with a bluetooth headset or desk microphone for better audio.
Chances are your smartphone has a better camera than most webcams. There are wall and monitor mounts for smartphones or you can just bend one out of a coat hanger.
As a streamer on a budget there are two apps that I find invaluable;
DroidCam using a phone as a webcam works very well over USB, the quality is great and the latency is low over USB.
Touch Portal is an app that works in tandem with a desktop client as a macro controller. You program your buttons in the desktop app and they appear on your device. There are a lot of plugins for loads of apps and services. I use it most to control OBS. Their recent update adds actions to trigger from Twitch chat and Twitch Channel point redemption. I love this app and how much it helps elevate my production quality.
Regarding the no webcams thing, if you or your players have spare smartphones, you can download an app to use it as a webcam (wifi or LAN). I've had success with DroidCam and have recommended it to others. It works fine on Discord, but not always on Roll20. But we keep our audio/video on Discord anyway as the quality is way better that on Roll20's.
I don't personally know iOS alternatives but I'm sure they exist!
As I'm sure you've noticed by now, USB cameras are currently in short supply. Pretty much all the cheap ones are sold out everywhere.
I've been using droidcam. You install an app on your phone and a client on your PC, and it allows you to use your phone camera as a wireless webcam. It's been working great for the occasional virtual party on discord with my friends.
Or if you are in the Android camp you want DroidCam along with the companion DroidCam Client on Windows.
Note that the phone doesn't need a SIM to work, or to be able to get to the Internet -- just on the same network as the PC.
You can use DroidCamIf you can use a PC to capture, encode, and stream said content. The app can do this over wifi or usb cable.
You can process the resulting video to do what you want.
I've taken a few assessments using droidcam and my cellphone. When the proctor asks about closing that program I just tell them it's the webcam app and they have had no issue with it.

Why don't you just use AndroidCam? It uses it's own application as opposed to running Chrome and having it bog down the computer with Chrome's huge RAM and CPU hogging. I've used it on my streams dozens of times now and it allows for USB or wifi connection (wifi has slight audio lag).
Try it here. You won't be disappointed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en_US
If it's an Android phone, there are apps for doing so
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en_US
Although it'll be better to just buy a cheap used webcam off eBay or somewhere for $5 IMO
I've used DroidCam (for Android) to achieve a similar thing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam Recommend using USB (direct connection) rather than WiFi to avoid the lag/delay.
well if you plan on only doing it inside your house, then using program that allows you to use your phone as webcam over wifi would be enough. Then just having different scenes for that.
Personally haven't tried it, but this is the way i would do it :)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en something like this if you got android phone
You need the Android app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
And the PC client: http://www.dev47apps.com/droidcam/windows/
I connected the phone via USB debugging due to my bad wifi connection.
Maybe using Droid Cam app? I believe it will allow you specify an IP address through your home router and then maybe you can connect to it using it's public-facing IP?
Es gäbe evtl. die Möglichkeit das Smartphone als Webcam zu benutzen. Habe es aber noch nie probiert. Google könnte vlt. helfen.
Beispiel: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=de

If you have an android device, theres an app in the Google Play store called DroidCam. Download that, install the desktop portion, sync up and you can then use your android device as a webcam via wifi or usb. I'm sure there's a similar option for iPhone users I'm just not sure what it would be.
Found this from your post history, after seeing the other thread when you posted it a few days ago. DroidCam is what you want; there is likely an iOS equivalent. Also, the software you need for streaming is called OBS Studio. You'll need to make a twitch account and then get your Stream Key and enter it into OBS, which you get from https://www.twitch.tv/TWITCHUSERNAMEHERE/dashboard/settings/streamkey
Hope this helps.
Oh right, I use this
hai uno smartphone android con fotocamera? Se sì, ti consiglio di usare Droidcam.
DroidCam is the one you're looking for, you install the client on the Windows PC and there's an app for Android (and iOS I believe, but there may be extra steps involved)
It's a free app but has limitations on quality, though if you buy premium it gives you full HD camera quality and some other features like rotating the picture. It also supports Wireless streaming, and not just using a USB cable, which is pretty cool.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en_GB&gl=US
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/droidcam-wireless-webcam/id1510258102
Download DroidCam. Pretty easy to set up and free for 480p video.
Daca ai probleme cu camera poti incerca DroidCam si sa iti folosesti telefonul pe post de camera web.
Usa esto y con la plata compra una luz auxiliar.
Droidcam works pretty well, you don't really need the paid version :) play store
Droidcam for Android.
There is DroidCam app that lets use phone as webcam over wireless or USB cable.
Have an android phone? Use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
I'm talking about this.
Just a play store search can find it.
DroidCan is what you're looking for, can work over USB and WiFi. Might take some adjustments for wireless tho.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
Got an old android smart phone lying around?
Droid Cam turns it into a web cam . . .
Quality control any better on G15 2022? Can’t say. I would rather have a 3070 than 3060 unless there is gameplay comparison showing the new 3060 runs as good as the 3070.
Webcam substitutes include your much better phone.

It's a bit techie to configure. Maybe you will find this one easier to use:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
DroidCam on Android and DroidCam Client on PC.
I use DroidCam and works fine. I downloaded through AUR but here is how to install on other systems it isn't in the repos:
on android use the google appstore
You ll need something like this in both phone and PC..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en_US&gl=US
You can try DroidCam which emulates a Webcam.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
Droid cam also works a treat! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
Try Droidcam
If all you want to do is a live stream in a well lit room, your smartphone might be perfectly fine for this.

If you are on Android, I'd try DroidCam:

If you want to record videos and upload later (instead of livestreaming), you could also take a look at https://www.filmicpro.com/.

The reason I'd recommend starting with a phone, is that for longer video recording you need a new(ish) camera, the old ones will all overheat. And if you get a "real" camera, you need body+lens, which will be hard to get for under 500€.
Droidcam is pretty cool
Use the DroidCam App and intall its Client!
Slabo vam je googlanje gospođo
DroidCam složen u 3 sekunde https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
Echoing what other people have already said, I originally went the no-money route and used a free webcam app for my Android phone and made a makeshift stand out of a cardboard box. Once I knew I was going to be playing a lot more EDH over Spelltable, I figured it'd be best to invest in some better gear.
I stuck with the camera app (due to webcam availability issues), but spent the $5 to get the pro version. I also bought this stand to replace my cardboard box to better hold my phone. It just clamps onto the table.
As for lighting, that's specific to your setup. The more diffused the better, the more sources the better, and make sure it doesn't directly reflect into your webcam. It'll take some adjusting, but you'll eventually get it. My lighting is a desk lamp and two overhead room lights, and that seems to be good enough. (If you want to go all out, this is probably one of the better setups you could get)
Test your current setup here https://webcamtests.com/
If doesn't work try with DroidCam, I've used this with multiple web and desktop apps without a problem.
very easy, use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
Use the usb option. Yes, it's safe. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
If you can't use your phone to connect to your meeting, you can use your phone as a webcam. I've only used these apps on a Windows machine.
https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/ndi-hx-camera/id1477266080 for iPhone/iPad
https://ndi.tv/tools/ App for computer
or
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en_CA for Android Phones and even iPhone ( https://www.dev47apps.com/ Windows/Linux App needed for Droid Cam)
Just jumping on this in case people really want/need to use a webcam right now and either can't get hold of one or afford one, you can use DroidCam for windows paired with the app on your mobile phone.
I've been using mine the past 2 months each weekend to play a quiz with friends. It works with my phone plugged into my PC so it's connects to the PC network and stays charged but I believe you can do it wireless as well.
The website tells you all the steps you need to go through to get it set up. It seems a little complicated if you're not too tech savvy but it's honestly not difficult.
Try Droidcam
Droidcam might work for you
If you have an Android Phone you can probably use this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en
For iPhone/iOS Devices:
https://lifehacker.com/turn-your-iphone-ipad-or-ipod-touch-into-a-webcam-for-5952288
as an alternative, unsure you have an android device, but if you you can make your android phone a webcam https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en_US
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en_US
then you have to download the desktop app too: https://www.dev47apps.com/droidcam/windows/
It's an app called Droidcam
Here's a direct link
You can easily just use your phone as a webcam. If you have Android check out DroidCam https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
Install ngnix using
sudo apt-get install nginx
Then edit config using
sudo nano /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default
And add on the end
server {
listen 8088;
location / {
proxy_pass
http://10.0.0.12:4747/video;
}
}
8088 is the port on octopi IP (from browser octopi:8088) where you want to see the camera
http://10.0.0.12:4747/video this is url for phone app stream
I'm using DroidCam app
Then on Webcam settings in octoprint use local octoprint IP with :8088 port on which you have now DroidCam stream. If you want multiple cameras just repeat this and add more settings for different cams and set it up in Multiple Camera Plugin on Octoprint.
Cheers
for Android try DroidCam (you'll also need the PC client) or IP Webcam
for iOS try EpocCam
the other phone's owner would install the app portions and you would install any pc client portions. then you just have the phone owner give you whatever info you might need (usually an IP) so you can add it as a source in OBS
this may or may not work depending on if the other person's phone is already in use as a camera for their own stream (however if they set it up as an IP webcam you should both be able to capture that with no issue). if that's the case you'd have better luck with a skype/discord call between the phones and your PC, and capturing the other phone. it's clunky but it would work.
If it's an Android device, yes. You can use it over USB.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam
Works like a charm.
Use DroidCam: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam&hl=en
You probably wont get 60fps, but the pro version does 720p at pretty decent FPS.
Can be a camara for PC.
