So, I'm making a bit of a joke here, but I hope this post won't actually be removed. I have hand eczema and for me, the keyboard just gets too toasty to use with my right hand at times.
The G15 can be one toasty boy for people with dry hands, so with this $15 (Fifteen Dollar) mod, you can now enjoy the cooling of a thicc boy with the portability of a thin and light gaming laptop. The heat dissipation on the keyboard is practically nonexistent, so it quickly can reach beyond 50C in gaming or even daily use when running the CPU at 4ghz. With this little trick, you can keep your hands cool and your laptop running at full speed.
The modification item: https://amazon.com/gp/product/B091T9YCGJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Mod Instructions:
1. Unpack the box
2. Mount the fan onto the side of the laptop as in the picture. I choose the top-right side to cool my right hand and side of the keyboard more.
3. Aim the fan slightly downward and towards the keyboard, turning to the left slightly, so that it can hit entire keyboard and touchpad. Make sure to get a 360 degree rotation fan here.
4. Enjoy a temperature reduction of 10-20C compared to what you normally get.
This specific fan can last over a full work day, and serves as a portable charger and emergency flashlight. There is no affiliate link or attempt to sell a product here, just an example of the clip-on fan that is working well for me.
I use an Acheson (Vencci now??) cooling pad on mine, and it makes a significant difference. I hate that when I turn off the RGB the blue LEDs on the fans stay on. I have tried other cooling mats. Not only does this one push more air than all the other ones I've tried, but it is a dead tie for the quietest of the bunch:
There's a built in function on the Tab S7/+ called "Second Screen"
There are also apps like Duet Display and SuperDisplay that do the same thing.
You should probably ask HIDevolution. As they will be the ones helping you if it dies.
But..... Personally I think 70c just idling is BAD. That basically means any actual stress on the drive is easily going to put it into throttling temperatures and possibly shorten its life span.
How are you reading the temps? Remember that its the controller you want to keep cool. The nand flash actually likes to be warm.
When I installed my second drive 970 evo plus it would hit 90c and throttle bad when stressing the drive. I installed some thermal pads and a thin copper heatsink on it and now it idles at like 35c and under heavy use it never breaks 60c.
I used something like this. https://www.amazon.com/Laptop-Heatsink-Thermal-Pads,Heat-Copper/dp/B07YC1HTFR/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=thermal+pad+m.2&qid=1623156800&sr=8-8
But I used thermalright Pads. With a copper heatsink exactly like in that pack.
I purchased a stand. I use it more like a desktop than a mobile laptop.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B086PR8W9H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought that stand. actually wrote a review on AMZ for it. . . My thoughts a stand is better in that it takes less desk space and you can add a deskfan or a usb pc fan behind the stand to give it extra cooling. I did not add an extra fan.
Like others have said. I found temps stayed in control when the laptop was elevated.
Hope this was helpful.
I bought this cooling pad but mainly use it to elevate my G15 and improve natural airflow -- the back portion is tilted upward and juts out over the pad just a bit so the hot air can blow out freely. Just elevating the laptop like this has helped reduce temps by a few degrees, and when I do decide to turn on the fan it goes down even more.

I'm not sure if there's a video specific to the G15 but you can certainly YouTube how to image Windows with Macrium Reflect and here's the download page: https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree?mo# for Reflect 7 Free.
Here's how I would proceed:
Again, this is how I would personally do it but proceed at your own risk.
This is what I have! Works well and still has great airflow. Depending on how tall your mount is it might not be exactly level but this one is adjustable and sits about even with my other two monitors. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088BP54XV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I've only had my G15 for around a week, still testing and trying out my dock I bought a while back while waiting for the Laptop. This is the dock
I wanted something similar to you, single cable to connect to an external display, Ethernet, power delivery and peripherals. Everything seems to work well and connects to my 2k 144hz no issues.
I need to do more testing regarding the performance for gaming etc. I obviously plug in the ac adapter as the 100w PD is not sufficient but I am not sure if some performance is sacrificed by outputting so much via the single cable to the dock.
I have ordered a usb c to DP to test if I am better off plugging my monitor directly into the second ucb c port alongside the dock for ethernet/peripherals only.
Hm, possibly the cable then?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087QFRYVZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_3QRA6QZ42ZH43V5XS197
This looks promising, specifically says 4k video support. Lists Apple and asus products on the ad material.
This is the dock that I use for my laptops, it supports 100w PD for the Zephyrus and 65w PD for the families various work laptops. One item of note is that the display ports are v1.4 on the dock, but if you use two or more monitors and have a high refresh rate display you may just need to get a USB-C to Display port cable for the faster display since USB-C is only so fast and cannot support a ton of fast monitors.
The main advantage of this dock is the faster display ports and 100W PD so you can dock for browsing. As others have said you will need to use the power brick for intensive workloads and gaming anyways (you can use the brick and USB-C PD at the same time).
If you just want USB and HDMI you can always grab something like the below item:
For a USB-C charger you just need to find a power brick that supports USB-C 100W PowerDelivery(PD) on one of the ports. If the brick does not have a cable you just need a 100w PD cable as well.
Edit: If you have a dock that is not 100w PD that is okay it will still work, it just will not be able to charge the laptop.
Hope this helps!
Just some 2 cents. I recently got a monitor for my 3070 G15 which is the Gigabyte M27Q 1440p 170hz. I use a USB-C to display port cable which caps at 165hz. The biggest limitation you will have is how you’re connecting the two. Also, remember the hz will only matter in gaming if your computer can produce that many frames per second. Right now I’m maxing at 120fps in Cold War with settings on ultra so the monitor will only display 120hz. To achieve 240fps you’d have to seriously downscale some games.

If you could please let me know what yours is idoling at when you get a chance. I'm opening it back up to take off the thermal pad. If it's still going hot I may return it and seek out another drive that runs cooler.

Sure. At a power draw of 73W with turbo fan mode, I'm settling at about 88C. Imgur is down so can't upload the screenshot right now.

Pretty sturdy and I like the adjustability.
There exist laptop battery packs too. They are heavier than regular battery packs though at around 1kg.
ohh I also recall buying one of those tiny copper drive heat syncs and doing a DIY application job from a youtube vid.
no heat issues.
This is the one I use, It has three Display Port 1.4's. I went with it so I could keep my Index plugged in.
The SanDisk and Samsung will get about the same read speed at like 90ish MB/s. The SanDisk is a better value storage wise but the write speed will be super slow at like 30sih MB/s verses the Samsung's 80 write.
I'd get the Samsung one if writing a lot / fast matters or the SanDisk 1TB if you mainly just writing once and leaving it there.
For the SSD you'd want something with DRAM and TLC if you are replacing your main drive but honestly HMB SSD is fine too for most. Secondary SSD that's QLC and HMB is fine. SSD power efficiency also matters and SK Hynix P31 has the least power consumption so it's great for laptops.
yes let me provide, but mine is not 500 nits sorry for misunderstanding. I got this one from Amazon but not arrived yet.
I bought this one. I hope it will come with a good panel. Some people have major bleeds as i see.
hello friend, is this real deal? what you think? should i buy this?
equally in this consideration set is VIOTEK GFV27DAB 27” 165Hz QHD 1440p 1ms
I've got a slightly older model by a few years, and it rocks. equally high rated, inexpensive but packed with features screen.
regarding those advocating for higher than 144 refresh rate... consider two things:
remember your refresh rate in gaming is only as important as your framerate (how performant your machine is). If you're only pulling 100fps in your favorite game, you will see more tearing in a 240hz panel than a 144hz one. If you have a beefy rig you think can crush 240fps (to more closely align with your refresh rate) in your favorite game, go for it.
secondly, the average human eye has difficulty seeing anything over 60fps. you can "feel" a higher framerate, but this ability has big time diminishing returns as you go above ~120 or so. to paraphrase, if you played the same game on two machines, one locked at 120 fps and one locked at 144 fps right next to it, a trained eye/hand might be able to sense the difference in gameplay, but it would be a challenge to tell which is which with confidence (and no apps displaying fps).
so waht I'm saying is 240hz refresh rate becomes a marketing selling point instead of a helpful feature.... kind of like buying an 8k TV today [when there's no content to support it]. Sure it's a nice number, but it's not really doing much at all for your gaming experience or advantage.

This is my laptop stand. Will this be a problem?
It is recommended to compare the laptop dimensions with the internal dimensions of a case. As checked, the dimensions of your laptop are 355 x 243 x 19.9 mm (13.98 x 9.57 x 0.78 inches) . Therefore, if you prefer a snug one, you can add 0~1 mm on the dimensions of the laptop.
You can take a look at the following cases. They fit your laptop snugly. Hope it helps.

I would suggest you use the software CPU-Z to check your memory timings to make sure you get matching speeds (cl timings) to your onboard memory.

I went with the Havit 3 fan Laptop Cooling Pad and really like it so far. It’s greatly improved my cpu and gpu temps while being surprisingly quiet! I can now lower the fan curve on the actual laptop’s fans (which get very very loud if left to run over 50%) and still get good airflow and temps, or I can use the cooling pad compounded with the laptop fans to keep temps more stable on overclocking.

Anker is one of the most reliable but also the most pricy one after Apple for Type-c chargers. I am minding to purchase SlimQ 100W because of this and talked with 3 Zephyrus users about SlimQ had no issues on them.
But if Anker would make a even small discount or a price cut, i believe I would turn to Anker without any hesitation.
Uh... actually, I'm using their 65W... I thought it was more... Totally wrong!
But, I've had ZERO issues with this for the last year or so. I'm not gaming on it, but I am working with it, and it can keep up just fine. (I am using one of their USB-C cables though, not going to cheap out too much)
Can you share other info, like what temperature is the room you game in? How old is your laptop? I have seen some post here of people having success repasting the CPU and GPU. Liquid metal makes that a bit dangerous, the reason I haven't done it yet.

Few things:
Docking stations are for 100 Watt work computers. Most support thunder bolt, which the G15 doesn't support. Notice how I split the display connectors and the usb devices? This saves bandwidth for your 1440P and 1080P monitors for one port. 4K @ 60 Hz is like 1080 @ 360 Hz, so you should be fine.

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-Plus-MZ-V7S2T0B/dp/B07MFZXR1B
Or the 1 TB version.
The question is do I need a heatsink for either the 1TB/2TB Versions?
When it comes to gaming laptops, it is tough. Don't expect to use it to power your laptop, usbc charging is only up to 100 watts.

https://old.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG15/comments/u97tr9/thermal_pad_for_ssd/iacpnzp/
If you want a drive with Dram (stock drive is dram-less, dram makes it faster as boot drive, but gets hotter) get the SK-hynix p31 gold if you want to go without a heatsink. If you want Dram in your drive I would also avoid PCIe-4, it gets even hotter than the previously mentioned
If you get anything hotter, grab this $10 pair of heatsinks
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YC1HTFR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
If you don't mind going without Dram, you have more options available.
For the RAM, 16gb is pretty good although myself and others have opted to upgrade it to 24gb total. You can do 24gb total while keeping the 16gb of dual-channel RAM config, 8gb acts as an additional cache.
I'm using the one by anker. 65W. It's compact, you can use for your mobile, tablet and everything else. No need to go for 100W. You will not be able to play games on that either.
You will also need type C. I sugg suggest buy one with display out and PD capabilities. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087ZQ4S6L/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_EP4QRH5VJQDE2JY247J5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

So if I was to buy a hub like this, I would be able to connect to my laptop via USB-C, and use an HDMI and display port from the hub to my monitors (the hub supports three 1080p 240hz monitors)? So my main issue was that my friends laptop was thunderbolt and I need straight up USB-C?
Sure. You can do that with basically all modern webcams... Kind of.
Almost all webcams come threaded to accept a tripod. I believe it is a 1/4-20 UNC, like you see on all but the largest tripod/camera rigs.
Regardless, any smaller webcam-sized tripod should work, as should any smaller products designed to hold flashes, consumer cameras, and webcams.
The basic idea is to have a mounting system not at all connected to your laptop that holds the webcam just above it when it is open, but isn't moved at all when it closes. This is obviously a compromise, but I don't think there is any other possible answer.
That said, a tripod is obviously sub-optimal since it is kind of ugly, takes up a lot of space, and can be knocked over.
Therefore I would suggest instead something like the flexible arm below that you can clamp onto your desk:
https://www.amazon.com/Pipishell-Inch-Webcam-Stand-Gooseneck/dp/B07Y2W4Q5Z
I don't have one of these and did only enough searching to find this specific link to give you an example, so I can't say that this particular one is good. But it should give you an idea and demonstrates that there are a host of other options using the tripod threads out there.
I’d save money and get a 970 evo plus. You have to install a thermal pad with copper heatsink or the drive WILL hit 90c and thermal throttle. After installing the temps it about 60c for me.

Any stand that gives it any amount of clearance will be good enough. A cooling pad isn't going to make any real difference in performance or longevity.
I use this one because it is great for travel, and you can use the keyboard while it is on it and you are traveling, if you need to (external mouse always strongly recommended):

There are a few things to consider.
I have this cooling pad, it's pretty generic and sold under many brands. It definitely helps to reduce the temps on my 2020 G15. https://www.amazon.com.au/LIENS-Cooling-Portable-Powered-Adjustable/dp/B08SW4RWWQ
I use this laptop stand. Ive used a few cooling pads, but this one is nice because you dont have to worry about your hinge hitting it. Solid stand. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08NSQNH4R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
You can look it up on youtube, I don't remember which youtuber it was but he tested laptop stand vs cooling pad vs cooling vacuum etc, and found that the best choice was stand. Cooling pad had minor benefits over stand but if you don't want to spend money, some people just put pieces of erasers behind their laptop and that was sufficient cooling.
I bought this stand and I love it. Super portable and adjustable height is really cool. Can be used as both laptop and ipad stand.
I got a Samsun 970 2TB for $200. These drives get hot. Make sure you get this kit. Laptop NVMe M.2 Heatsink with... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YC1HTFR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Before, the temps would shoot up to almost 90c. Now it hovers around 60c for me.

I upgraded my G15 from 16GB to 24GB
I purchased a 16GB RAM Crucial RAM stick. Make sure to get the dual rank stick though

Yeah, I have no intention of using USB C to charge my device.
My question was more so geared since I am plugging everything into a docking station, and then plugging that USB docking station into my laptop. I want everything plugged into my docking station, and I want a single connection from my docking station to my laptop. I'm not sure if your response is taking this into account?
My two monitors are:
The current docking station I am using is:
Currently I have an Acer Swift 3, and everything plugged into that D3100 docking station. I have a single USB 3.0 connection from that to my laptop. This is fantastic for everything but gaming. I can easily swap to my work machine, and leave everything plugged in.
I want the exact same setup (everything into a docking station, 1 cord to laptops) except I want it without lag when gaming. As of now I have to unplug my main monitor from the docking station and plug it directly into my laptop.
I'm not sure if I will have to get a brand new docking station, or just get a USB 3.0 to USB C adapter.
Thanks for the help.
Yes, you need the HDMI to be directly connected to the dGPU (Nvidia) video bus. The HDMI (and internal display) are connected to the iGPU video bus, which does not support HDMI 2.1 (at least on 2021 model).
Any USB-C to HDMI cable with a “high speed” designation should work, but if you want a confirmed good cable, I use this one from Cable Matters.
Details? What monitor are you plugging into? What cable are you using?
I just game on the laptop display but you should be able to game on an external just fine.
Something like this should be all you need for a single monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RY75V7Q
There’s your issue. The HDMI port on these laptops are low bandwidth and pass through the iGPU after the dGPU (no MUX switch). For a direct connection to the dGPU, you’ll need to get a USB-C to HDMI cord, such as this: https://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Cable-48Gbps-Maxonar-Adapter/dp/B09VZ5D567 Walmart also has one that you might find in your local store, but is 4k60hz.
Probably not, spec on the active adapter (cac-1080) says HDMI 2.0b. Looks like you would need to find one that does HDMI 2.1 to get VRR.
Maybe something like this? CAC-1085. Made by the same company, looks like people in the reviews are running LG 4k tv's at high refresh rates. Just make sure you get a high quality cable spec'd for HDMI 2.1 otherwise you'll have problems. At high resolutions/speeds the cable quality is super important.
Hi again, I've got another question!
ROG Zephyrus G15 (2022) GA503 GA503RM-LN119W (I don't want to order off Amazon unless it's the only decently fast delivery option).
Is this the right one? Using the Asus website and comparing, looks like it's the 2022 3060 model.
Also, I can't seem to find a MSRP for this PC. I want to know if it's a good price to get it.
I'm considering getting the G15 2021 as well, if the price is way better. I heard they go on sale for like $300 off sometimes?
That is very hot, although the Samsung does run hot. I have the exact same drive and installed one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XD8M43P/
Temps never go over 60, usually much lower.
Which one did you get?
Got my eye on this one from SABRENT
SABRENT M.2 NVMe Heatsink for The PS5 Console (SB-PSHS) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09HSQQWCL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KBDPZY4E0KFKZ9XY3GKM

I've had better success with VESA certified cables offering the highest bandwidth they should be
Just a basic one, something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0164R64Y8/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_0BYCV8B9ZNYQP26CGZYS
It's more of a stand so that the bottom vents arn't blocked by fabric because I took the fans out to make it easier to carry around, If your getting 60 just from browsing then there is something more pressing than the cooling pad, are you running anything in the background? Also it could depend on the room temperature, I'm in the UK and like the cold so that probally helps.
Just wanted to chime in and say that I’ve got a two monitor setup (both 1440p monitors, one at 144hz and the main monitor at 165hz). I’ve got them plugged in via USB-C to DisplayPort cables to the two USBc ports on the left. To my knowledge they both connect directly to the dGPU.
Here are the cables I purchased which work great: Cable Matters USB C to DisplayPort 1.4 Cable (USB-C to DisplayPort)
