Knutsson is the sniper for team Hearbreakerz - the number 1 EU Tribes: Ascend team and is one of the best T:A snipers in the world.
While many people won't think that sniping montages are as impressive as getting blue plate specials some of the shots in this video are amazing and the fact that all the footage was recorded over only two maps in mind blowing.
If the game looks interesting to you, pop over to /r/tribes and download it at http://www.tribesascend.com.
Tribes: Ascend. Here was a well-done revamp of a beloved cult classic game, set to make it into the mainstream competitive scene.
Then they said "well shit, everyone's going Free-To-Play nowadays, lets make it free and charge people for every single class, weapon and upgrade."
Which would have been fine, because they included a way to unlock those items just by putting in play time.
But, they weren't making enough money on the game, so they added almost double the number of weapons and upgrades. But didn't balance them AT ALL against the starting set. So the people who DID play or pay for all those starting weapons got screwed and had to either pay or play again to get weapons that would make them competitive again. So a lot of people just stopped playing.
They also didn't launch with the ability for players to host their own Tribes server or include their own maps. Now that HiRez doesn't care about the game, the people still playing Tribes have been playing on the same 8 maps since LAUNCH. And with the odd server issues, I'd imagine HiRez is reducing the number of available servers to save on operating costs.
Put it all together and you've got a nickle-and-dimeing unbalanced FPS that never gets new maps or updates. All within like 6 months of "beta" launch.
How to make it right: you have a dedicated community! Let players host their own Tribes: Ascend servers, let players add custom maps to the rotations, and just charge a flat $60 for the whole game, everything unlocked. They would have made bank and NOT alienated the playerbase.
Was going to say just this. For a more modern day fix, Tribes: Ascend does the trick. Midair is another game in the works which is attempting to reclaim the original Tribes experience. The synopsis:
| Midair is an extremely fast paced first-person shooter from Archetype Studios. The game features high-flying freedom of movement, physics-based weaponry, and player choice. Fans of FPS-Z games will feel right at home, while players new to the genre will experience a challenge that breaks the mold of traditional mass-produced shooters.
I had a lot of fun playing it, and won a T-shirt by scoring the highest on the winning team in one of the matches. Definitely has a lot of potential.
And because I'm so nice, you can register for a chance to get into the beta here <3
I never thought about how much the reaper looks like a player model from a Tribes game. This is badass.
Speaking of being badass, here's a Tribes: Ascend beta access key: VP31A-A9C58-325D4-F2E95-5AB29.
Could someone pull up the match results on that one? Pretty sure BIuelcedWinds got a slayer before he was counter-hacked and re-joined to record the 'incriminating evidence' against Green. Found it
Tribes: Ascend is free and fun. I think people still play it, the Reddit community for tribes still seems active-ish but that's all I have to go on. I'm reinstalling it right now because I'd actually like to get back into it. I'll update this if it's a dead community, though.
Holy shit, when I got the EMPG in weekend 2, the first thing that I thought of was Tribes Ascend.
I said that I should go play it again. I'm assuming that it's dead now, even though it has a website?
Cant help but throw a shoutout for Tribes Ascend. 2012 game, Free to Play, Just put out a new patch after 2 years of dev silence. but iM a tribes junkie so w/e.
Supraball could also be a lot of fun if I can get the devs to kick me down some more steam beta keys (currently on lockdown). Supraball is the game that brought me too Rocket League.
Is this at a personal residence? If so will games all be LAn only or Online considering bandwidth needed for 48 online players.
The website is down, too. http://www.tribesascend.com/ Apparently, > The Account Management and Registration areas of our site are not available at the moment due to a temporary technical issue.
I've been meaning to check out Tribes: Ascend but I just cannot for the life of me figure out how to get a beta key. I sign in to my account on the webpage (I have an account from checking out Global Agenda a few years ago) and it redirects me to the developer's website, where it tells me to input an activation key to get access to T:A.
I go back to http://www.tribesascend.com and it's already logged me out and doesn't give me a "here's what you click to get an activation key" button. I'm currently downloading the client, but unless I'm missing something here (or there's a "CLICK ME FOR BETA KEY" button in the client) they've made it impossible for me to play.
If you do the pre-order http://www.tribesascend.com/buypage.html You can get Beta access now. $30 for $45 worth of stuff.
If you liked any of the previous Tribes games - you should like this one. F2P with item shop. I've already spent money on it :p
Anything you get now will carry over to release - which is always nice.
