Those of us who have spoken of MLK's actual behavior and intelligence have been threatened by both those who need to believe the public relations stories, as well as by our own government. I am very quiet and oblique when I do tell what I know. What I know from personal experience, and the resentments of some who were closest to MLK. When I was younger, living in Atlanta, a bunch of us "hippie" types were hired at various times to work for the business that was MLK. We mostly handed out panphlets and ran errands. My boyfriend at the time, and several others of our group, eventually came to be asked to babysit MLK and Coretta's kids (I don't think Dexter was born yet, so it must have been MLK III [sic] who loved tearing wings off butterflies). When I found out my boyfriend was providing underage White girls to MLK and some of his cronies, and that the girls were being beaten and forced to do things more than just sex, I insisted we have nothing more to do with MLK or his ilk. There are various articles, both old and new, that can give you a little insight, but there are forces that wish to continue using the image that is MLK. https://theconversation.com/im-an-mlk-scholar-and-ill-never-be-able-to-view-king-in-the-same-light-118015 https://www.chronicle.com/article/Plagiarism-by-Martin-Luther/80498 https://unicheck.com/blog/martin-luther-king-plagiarized
I met an African-American professor at Oglethorpe University who claimed that MLK plagiarized him, but I cannot find any mention online. Much first-hand information has been repressed and expunged. I do not "hate" MLK, but I continue to espouse the idea that one should not consider him--or anyone else--a hero.
People have been cheating in university for a long time. It, not something new it just in this situation easier to accomplish. check out this stats https://unicheck.com/blog/academic-cheating-statistics
That’s a terrible feeling, I guess, especially if you have sympathy for the student. Did you manage to get a reason for such cheating?
It is important to provide such cases as examples to students from time to time in order to inform them about academic integrity, all negative consequences of plagiarism, and penalties for cheating. Moreover, you can also inform students about the innovative plagiarism checking features available that can verify the authorship and detect cheating within one course or university. Most papers are saved in personal libraries of academic institutions and it is very easy to detect submission of papers with the help of authorship verification software. Most students are not even aware of such functionality. However, I think they should know about it to understand all the consequences.
It's like I am reading my own experience put down by someone else. I used https://unicheck.com/ to check my thesis last year, and it was great as it recognized all citations and references in my paper. I know that they have a free option for schools, but I am not sure if it is free for individual users. When I was using it, I paid something, but it was not much.
Our school faced this problem a few weeks ago (thanks, Mr. President). We also had to give up on Turnitin. Plagiarism checker is a must-have tool in my workflow so I was furious about it. I choose to be positive and decided to look for some alternatives. Firstly, I’ve tried some free checkers but’s it doesn’t even worth trying. They work awfully and at this point, I realized that we had to find some paid but less expensive alternative. We found several options but stopped with Unicheck plagiarism checker as we saw that they are integrated with Google Classroom, which would be handy for us as we use this LMS.
After checking their prices https://unicheck.com/prices we realized that that was what we’re looking for. Now we’re using this checker instead of Turnitin in our school. All I think about now is, “Why I didn’t start using it earlier!” It’s cheaper and much better than the previous one. I love its design and it’s easy to use.
So you can also try this checker and maybe that’s what you’re looking for. Good luck!

> Plagiarism among EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students is another growing concern for Higher Ed. In 2018, Voanews.com (VOA) informed that 85% of plagiarism cases registered at the University of Minnesota stemmed from non-native English speakers.

This only covers homework. They are discussing whether cheating in homework is ethical or not.

I see lots of Indian posts about easy cheating where teachers themselves are helping students to cheat. This intensifies when the exams are happening.
What a load of self-loathing bs. What's the source? Your ass?
It is taken very seriously here. Otherwise hundreds and thousands wouldn't be expelled every year and new strategies wouldn't be implemented to reduce cheating.
Some recent examples- Rajasthan government has suspended 2 senior officials and 13 employees of the education department •Rajasthan shuts Internet as 16 lakh appear for REET 2021
>>Academic Dishonesty Surveys in the U.S. and the UK
>More than 70,000 students both graduates and undergraduates took part in it. And the results obtained were jaw-dropping, as 95% of the surveyed students admitted to cheating on a test and homework, or committing plagiarism.

Read further down and you'll see that many students cheat in Harvard,Yale and Standford as well and many get away with it too.
It doesn't matter where they are, dishonest students will cheat.
Now, where's your stats which prove "desi countries give leeway and that teachers don't take it seriously"? How is it different here than the "most countries" you speak of?
I would recommend running the source code plagiarism check. There is some plagiarism detection software that can detect source code similarity. Unicheck is one of them and is widely used at academic institutions as a plagiarism detector. Their source code plagiarism check is in beta testing. Still, it can show you whether there is any similarity or you shouldn’t worry at all.
In case you want to be on the safe side, just make a note concerning the project you have used.
Here is one very good article on Reddit to learn more about academic integrity, negative consequences of its violation, and penalties students may get. I truly think that each student should read it before they cheat. You can easily write your assignment on your own. Still, if you cheat, it is 99,99% that it will be detected.
Innovative plagiarism checking tools can detect almost any type of cheating, including text modifications, submission of someone’s papers, cheating with references and citations, and even contact cheating. Plagiarism gives neither good grades nor good reputation, nor moral satisfaction. The only thing you may get from it is serious penalties.
If you had provided detailed explanations and corrected everything before the paper was checked for plagiarism, it shouldn’t be considered as plagiarism.
Make a rule for yourself to run a paper through a plagiarism checker before the final submission. It will show where you have issues and what has to be corrected in the paper.
I use Unicheck and it always shows issues with citations or references if I have any.
Thank you for such a useful post and answers to the most common questions on academic integrity. Unfortunately, there are a lot of similar questions on various forums and educational communities. Students commit cheating as they are not aware of all the consequences and penalties. If it is a case of unfair accusation, they also don’t understand what should be done next to protect themselves. This post will be a great help for students for sure.
Still, there is no information about the most harmful type of cheating for academic integrity. Contract cheating is extremely hard to detect and sometimes students don’t consider it to be academic dishonesty. There are a lot of insights presented in the recent interview of Thomas Lancaster with Unicheck about this topic.
I consider that all the authors should use plagiarism detection tools to check their works. Unicheck is a great tool for authors that helps detect similarity with other texts. Here you can read an interesting interview, conducted with an author Jan Tegze on Plagiarism Free Writing. He also shared his experience and preventive measures on the most popular cases when the works are stolen and published anywhere else without permission.
I do understand your frustration regarding this issue. Still, it doesn’t depend on the students and teachers, but on the academic institutions and how they treat self-plagiarism. Here you may check how to avoid self-plagiarism and why it is so dangerous: https://unicheck.com/blog/dangers-of-self-plagiarism
Is there any tool that your colleges are licensed to use? I use the Unicheck plagiarism checker (https://unicheck.com/). It is used at my institution. However, they also offer standalone accounts and their rates are quite affordable.
I am sure Turnitin also should offer accounts for individual users.
As far as Google searches are concerned, I don’t use it as it is not reliable at all. It shows only results available in open access. Such plagiarism checkers as Unicheck have special private databases for each academic institution where they may store papers submitted to a university/college. This helps educators detect cheating among students when they submit papers of their friends or previously submitted assignments. Still, if the teacher disables this feature, the papers and assignments won’t be saved anywhere. In standalone accounts, there are also private libraries where your papers may be saved to avoid self-plagiarism. This feature may also be disabled or enabled by a user.

I admit that everything I have said can be sourced but I haven't "straight up copied" these from different sources. I simply explained what he has done using my own words
As always, "cult of mac" trying to take ownership of everyone else's work.
Larry Tesler worked at Xerox, where he developed cut, copy, paste, and also worked on early graphical interface.
Cut, copy, paste, was first actually used in Wordstar and Wordperfect (1978). After Larry went to Apple in 1980 he brought it over there.
Oh, come now. Every country should have a national day honoring hookers, booze and plagiarism. All the cook ~~kids~~ countries are doing, I'm quite sure.
>There's no such thing as an original thought. Twain wrote that, ‘The kernel, the soul, let us go further and say the substance, the bulk, the actual and valuable material of all human utterances is plagiarism.” Twain believed that there was no such thing an original thought or an original idea, because every subject on Earth had been pored over, written about and analyzed
I think that you are asking if there any original ideas left?
The answer is yes and no. Yes, there are original ways to express thoughts, ideas, concepts and philosophies, but no, the actual subject upon which these thought, ideas, concepts and philosophies are based on, are not original. ... There's no such thing as originality, just authenticity
Check out Unicheck. It's fast, efficient and fairly affordable (and much, much safer than free checkers). Does your school use an LMS? Cause integrating a plagiarism checker into one is a great option, too.
Unicheck is great option. It's accurate, coherent and affordable. You get 5 free pages upon signing up, so it's a great opportunity to check it out for yourself. Not sure what you mean by "getting flagged for using one", but Unicheck doesn't keep your files, so they won't appear anywhere online!
