I use an app called Caffeine to keep my phone running while auto-battling. I used this app for other games originally but it works for FE:H, you can set it to turn on for specific apps if you'd like.
If you're on Android you can use Caffeine app (free) to automatically prevent your device from locking when Pokemon Go is in the foreground. Used it tonight and it worked great.
You can use an app called caffeine, to do that. Set caffeine to keep screen awake when your music player app is running. No need for tasker :)

I have an app called Caffeine that I've configured to enact wake locks on media viewers and Twisty Timer. It's automatic after you select the apps and I haven't noticed a meaningful battery drain outside of wake events so it works properly.
The upside to phone timers is that the operating system itself also has options for keeping the screen awake during charge.
Settings > Lock screen & security > Automatically lock > select a longer duration. My X Performance allows 30 minutes before it locks. You can also change the screen timeout to something longer (30 minutes for me again), meaning you can talk for an hour without touching your phone before it locks and hangs up.
Or you could get something like Caffeine which is essentially a wake-lock which you can set for specific apps. But make sure you're charging your phone or you'll end up with a dead battery.
Also I hate to be pedantic, but FaceTime is what Apple calls their video chat service. It's not available on non-apple devices. I knew what you meant and most would. But it's the Kleenex/Facial Tissue and Velcro/Hook and loop fastener debate...
either way, I hope that helps.
TL;DR Change the screen timeout longer, and the lock on sleep longer, will give you up to an hour of hands free conversation. Apps exist to keep the phone from going to sleep as well
I download an app called caffeine that allows you to select certain apps that won't put the phone to sleep (no timeout). It's great for biking with eggs and generally nice and easy to use.
These apps don't alter the function of the game, but I use them the most.
Caffeine - For android, this app lets me keep the screen on so it doesn't shut off automatically. What I like about it the most is that I can specify the app that stays on and it will enable if the app has focus.
Touch Lock - This app locks the screen from any clicks so I can carry my phone in my pocket without it clicking through menus.
I use these two together. I can keep the screen on and the game running and open. At the same time, I can prevent accidental clicks. I use it for riding my bike, jogging, etc... I don't have to keep a constant eye on the screen to hatch eggs.
I personally use an app called Caffeine that lets you set your phone to stay awake when certain conditions are met, like having a specific app open. You can also toggle it on and off as needed.
I've been using it for this strategy and it works great, though my phone does heat up a bit haha.
Keeps your screen awake and it has a few different settings. Not too many though. I have mine set to turn on when its charging so it keeps the screen on. Then my phone is set to daydream with ClockPlus so it displays a giant clock on the screen and any notifs I get. When I take it off the charger it will turn off. You can also set it to turn on with with certain apps and not others.
Edit: Daydream will turn the screen on anyway and display that clock app. But it if you pick your phone up and unlock it, Caffeine will stay on because it's still plugged in. I like that feature. It's not for everyone though.
For Android there's an app called "caffeine" that I love. It keeps your phone awake when apps that you select are running, or you can pick one offs to keep the phone awake.

Only downside is you occasionally have to re-enable it if you use ultra power saver mode or restart the phone.
You can do this with an automation app (Tasker, MacroDroid, Automate, AutoMagic). Application launched trigger, set screen timeout action; application closed, set screen timeout. Or, just use one of the apps that make use of the caffeine feature, like Caffeine.
To prevent the screen from locking while I'm playing FFRK (since it's annoying not only in MP, but also while clearing dailies and easy dungeons in auto mode) I have installed this free app called Caffeine.
You can set it to start as soon as you run an app of your choice, and it keeps the screen on all the time until you close the selected app.
Idk if a setting does that, but Caffeine does this. Not automatically, but I believe it has a widget.
Edit: it looks like it can be set to activate when certain apps are open.
I just use a third party app such as Caffeine
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.syntaxa.caffeine
It's lightweight and you can automate it with Tasker to start and stop when you open and close PoGo.
Edit: Just had a quick search on the play store and this app should do what you want if you don't have and Tasker experience.

This is the app I use on all my farm phones to keep them awake, have been using it for a good while and it works great for me. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.syntaxa.caffeine&hl=en
I use an app called Caffeine to keep my phone awake. I have it set to dim the screen (on top of the battery saver's dimming function) when it would usually turn off, and I've also set it to automatically enable when I open Pokemon Go and to automatically disable when I close Pokemon Go, so it doesn't interfere with anything else.
Really happy with how it's working so far.
There's an app you can download that prevents automatic screen dimming and locking while enabled.
Linkme: Caffeine
Download caffeine and GPS status to get that solved - both are free from the play store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.syntaxa.caffeine
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
Thanks! I had a long look around, and I found out that I can delay the screen from going to sleep for up to 30 minutes. Which is not too bad, because I can just touch the screen every ~20 minutes to delay it.
Then I googled OxygenOS 3.6.1 No Sleep and found this app on Google Play
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.syntaxa.caffeine&hl=en
and it seems to work perfectly. I'll leave it up in case someone else has this question.
Thanks for answering!
There is an free app on the Google Play store called Caffeine. This has the ability to keep your screen awale as long as it's running.
iOS you can set the display timeout to never IIRC. Low power mode might disable that though.
CyanogenMod *ag reporting in.... I use "caffeine" to keep my phone awake for X periods of time (it also has an infinite mode) that way you can turn the PoGO battery saver - this app I linked is not THE SAME but it does great work on other phones I have yet to update to CM13 or Android 7

I downloaded this app on someone's recommendation here and it works great! It keeps your phone awake. You can turn it on and off whenever, or you can set it to turn on automatically when certain apps are in use which is what I did.
You have to make sure it doesn't go into standby mode. There are apps like caffeine in the play store or you could change your phone's settings to prevent it from sleeping.
There is an app called Caffeine. You can use it to disable your phone from going to sleep when using certain apps.
It's worked pretty well for me. I've had PoGo crash on startup a few times, but that could have just been the game itself.
Install Caffine, it's free, I have it set to only run when Pokemon Go is active, it'll keep the screen and device awake for you: Caffine
Can get an app like caffeine to easily toggle off screen timeout. I'm sure you could do something with Tasker too
For Android:
Proximity Sensor and Caffine (Keeps the game on and saves the screen on time, allows the game to update quickly when on Pokemon GO Plus, huge battery saver combination) LINK & LINK
Game Press- Best pokemon Resource LINK
Calcy IV- OCR scanner app, automatically selects the pokemon, inputs the HP and the CP. You then manually add the trainer phrase and best stat(s) LINK
Movesets- Quick glance at best defensive and offensive move sets per pokemon (seems to be gone from the app store)
Speed Overlay- Keeps me within the ideal speed limit, with a floating HUD LINK
Google Maps- Overhead navigation and less glitchy than the current waze app. LINK
Try this if ur on android.
I use the app Caffeine on my android phone it works quite well for keeping my phone awake.
You could use another app to prevent the screen sleeping such as https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.syntaxa.caffeine&hl=en_GB
If you are on android you can use Caffeine to keep your phone awake when Pokemon Go is open.
I'm using caffeine for pretty much the same scenario. Works flawlessly.

I use it to keep Couch to 5K from sleeping while I'm on the treadmill.
What version of Android do you have? You can add a notification tile called Caffeine in Nougat
Edit: or this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.syntaxa.caffeine
Try this app. The feature is also built in LineageOS.
I use this one. It's been working great!

I've heard positive things about the Caffeine app. It keeps your phone awake.
Really liking caffeine. It keeps your screen from sleeping or dimming. It can also auto-activate in certain apps.
You could use Caffeine though.
