Also for mods: I know this post might not be a research paper, but trying to help researcher with whatever, even if little computational and processing powers our smartphones has to support such research.
Thank you.
I only got one.
It's called DreamLab and it is helping scientists by using your smartphones computation power to solve scientific problems while you sleep.
It helps with research for cancer, covid, proteins etc.
It is running while you charge your phone, ideally while you sleep so your phone has the time to crunch some numbers.
It is developed by the Vodafone foundation and every device helps. All smartphones together rival any supercomputer.
Check it out on Google Play or the AppStore
I completely forgot about this help the world out in the background app. DreamLab. Just reinstalled as I'm on the road a lot with my phone plugged in. Currently you get to be part of the mega-super computer working on Corona-type problems and solutions...
There's a few some of which do it while you sleep

There also used to be a Samsung backed app that did the same thing

Considering your android phone wasn’t made for complex mathematical calculations, you would probably do 100x more by donating $50 to some project and them using that money to rent out a GPU pool compared to you using the tiny ARM64 CPU in your phone.
I used to Folding@Home back when that was a thing on PS3 (mostly for the BBC One radio 😅). Gaming hardware performs protein folding simulations really well. Though I'm not sure if it's a strain on the system. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.vodafone.dreamlabapp
You can also research a medicine for COVID-19. It uses collective smartphone processing power to analyze large amounts of datasets and find potential antiviral components in existing drugs and foods.

It amazes me how many people are getting pissed at the F@H payments.
This is probably an unpopular opinion but I thought Bananos was supposed to be fun and wholesome, and that contributing to a great cause like F@H was more of doing something as a community. Can we not see how amazing it is for the Banano community to be one of the Top 10 on F@H, and that we are contributing to something great?
WeLL wHy DoN't YoU fOlD fOr FrEe? I do on my phone using DreamLab and have been since they disbanded the F@H mobile app years ago.
If those in this community wanna leave, then leave; you don't need to announce your departure (this isn't an airport). You can think that this is all some sort of conspiracy or scam, but until you provide actual proof, I'll continue to support Banano/Nano. And even if it is a scam, I'll still probably use F@H to continue my contributions to a great cause.
NUU makes unlocked stock Android phones. The company is based out of Miami and Hong Kong. Their new G5 is the current flagship, available unlocked, fully stock Android, sold for $160.
Any limitations on your phone (including it being locked to AT&T} was AT&T's schemes and your bad luck. I'm sorry.
If you like the phone you have now then buy the G5, use the Klarna payment option, and move the sim to the new, unlocked, phone. The current phone can be either an emergency device in your glove compartment or used with the Dreamlab app for cancer research.
First, AT&T does not need to know. Don't contact them. Second, I really hope they didn't make you pay more than $200 for whatever you currently have.
If you have a smart phone you can also use that to fight the virus by downloading the free app Dreamlab, available for both Android and IOS.
It's like BOINC and FAH, only for phones. It's primary focus is finding treatments for cancer, but it has opened up covid19-projects too.
It takes under 5 minutes to download, install and use, it's incredibly easy to set up. It only runs when you charge your phone, and it can be set to only use wifi, or you can set and limit the amount of mobile data you want it to use (it doesn't use that much).

In case anyone wants to help in a small way towards a cure covid-19 or types of cancer -
The app DreamLab utilises your phone when charging to crunch data working towards cure's/treatments for various cancers and covid-19. Here's the iOS link and here's the Google Play link

but on another subjekt does anyone know if there is an android app to control fah on a pc? to be able to pause/start and view the progress from the phone?
Android app link:
The app is developed by Vodafone Foundation and the COVID19 with the collaboration of Imperial College London, still need a much bigger number of contribution to fast track the project.

If it's not showing up on the play store on your device, your model might be “old”. Unless you're running KitKat Android, you can install the latest compatible version from apks from reliable sites. I got some devices that are Marshmallow and earlier. They can still run most projects.
Thank you for this response. It is very informative.
So I downloaded this app called DreamLab which uses your phone to "crunch cancer research problems" while it's plugged in overnight. Maybe that would be a viable alternative to having it run while you stream.
In other words, if you mine cryptocurrency for them overnight you get to stream for free and without ads the next day. Maybe that would work?
If profitability amounts to a few cents per hour I still have no idea how that would compare to advertising revenue.
I just use for DreamLab which is a cancer fighting app.
I'm not going to say the proliferation of always-on and Internet of Things is nothing but positive, but you can't say it has more negative than positive aspects.
If you'd be happy going back 20 years before smartphones were everywhere, why stop there? Who needs books, you can just tell stories. Who needs banks, let's just barter for everything. Why even call people, just send a letter. Let's just all go back to living in caves.
Technology on the whole is a good thing, I think. Look at the ways we can now keep in touch with people all over the world. We can look up information in seconds. We have entire encyclopedias in a tiny device that we carry with us. We can take unlimited photos of things and send them to people instantly.
I have apps on my phone that calculate things, convert measurements, take photos, read the news, get updates from my kid's schools, control things in my home, let me check my bank balance anywhere any time, have video calls with my friends and family, navigate anywhere as a GPS, pay my bills, do remote IT support, play games with my kids when they are at my ex's house, listen to all the music I own... I could go on.
And what about things like DreamLab? Thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people using their smartphones to crowdsource medical number crunching to work on cancer research.
You're seriously telling me that you'd be happy giving all this up because "things were better in my day"?
You're happy physically going to a bank, which is not open after work or at weekends, to queue up to make a bank transfer rather than just spending five seconds doing it on a phone?
You're happy trudging to a library to hope they have a book about a subject you need to learn about, that's up to date and not completely outdated, instead of just looking it up online?
You have an emergency and need to call an ambulance? Better hope you have money for the payphone down the street and that it hasn't been vandalised.
Again, I realise there are downsides. Addiction is a very real thing and there is always the risk of losing all social interaction and relying on your phone, but everything has risks. If you want to go back to the way things were, nobody's stopping you. You don't have to have a smartphone or use the internet, but if you're going to say things were better before, I'd like to hear why.
You can download Dreamlab to basically turn your phone into a science protein-folding machine
DreamLab - The app helps to research cancer and COVID-19 and find drugs.

Dreamlab is an app that uses the computing power of your phone while it charges, when you are on the Covid-19 project, the computer power is used to see if medications that already exist can be used against corona.

If you want to do something in addition to discussing the virus, please consider to download the free app Dreamlab (made by Vodafone) to fight the virus every time you charge your phone.
The Dreamlab app works very much like distributed computer networks like BOINC and Folding at Home, only its made for smart phones, and is available for both Android and IOS.
It's primary focus is finding treatments for cancer, but it has recently opened up covid19-research too.
It takes under 5 minutes to download, install and get started, and it is so easy to set up anyone with a phone can do it.
It only runs when you charge your phone or has it connected to a charger, so it doesn't use your battery.
It can be set to only use wifi, or you can set and limit the amount of mobile data you want it to use, but it doesn't use that much to begin with.

PS! We also have a Dreamlab subreddit: r/Dreamlab, new members are more than welcome!
DreamLab (https://www.vodafone.com.au/foundation/dreamlab) is an app that runs on Android and Apple mobile devices. Similar to other distributed computing apps available for PCs and Macs, this app runs scientific calculations when your phone is not in use and plugged in.
The COVID-19 project is being run by scientists from Imperial College London. This research aims to discover anti-viral components in existing medicines and foods that can help fight the coronavirus. Besides the COVID-19 research project, there are several others that include research for cancer genomics and anti-cancer drug research.
Get the app from the Apple App store (https://apps.apple.com/app/id1273619275) or the Google Play store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.vodafone.dreamlabapp) for your mobile device.
How to contribute:
If you do not have a WiFi connection, you can set how much mobile/ cellular data it can use per month from the settings page in the app.
Note: This is separate from the Folding@home project and the Rosetta@home project. If you have PCs, Macs or laptops that can contribute to COVID-19 research, give these a try.
Just joined ! I used to fold on the PS3.
Also there is a similar app called DreamLabs for Android and iOS.
I'd like to suggest DreamLab! Basically, it uses a small amount of data on your smartphone while it's charging to crunch calculations for cancer research. You can choose which project you want your phone to work on and can manage how much data the app uses. It's very small in size and the phone runs smoothly while it's working in the background. The only downside is that the phone charges slower while it's working, but you can pause it at any time if you're in a hurry. Apple Store and Google Play.
Also obligatory Duolingo mention because it's amazing and helps so much in learning new languages. I need to use it more.
Gifting: Your WLs! whenever I get a chance
Seeking: Stamps and books. Warning, it's like 2k books. It might be too many to load for some computers. Sorry! I tried to make the list short, lol.

Or simply download DreamLab to your Android (idk with iPhone) phone. :) Requires just WiFi/data transfer (you can set up how much it uses monthly) and you can help by doing pretty much nothing. When your phone is charged to 100% and still connected to a power source it gives some of its computing power to help researchers.
