Is this malware as the reviews suggest? Also, the screen grabs look identical to those for the free app Equilizer FX except for the software name. What kind of morally bankrupt loser steals someone else's free app and tries to charge money for it?
Equalizer FX is what I use. I have the pro version. Works great for me.
Also, not to sound mean, but you could use the search function because this gets asked a lot :)
I think the EQ in Android is handled at a system-level (at least on Samsung Phones it is). So this would be an android/OEM-Skin problem instead of an YTM one.
Try opening the EQ in other apps and see if it works, or you get similar graphical errors.
In the meantime you can use one of the EQ-Apps from the Play Store to help with this. e.g. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devdnua.equalizer.free&hl=de&gl=US
I use Equalizer FX app, so when i click on the equalizer option on Spotify, it opens up the app. And it seems to work really well with Spotify. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devdnua.equalizer.free
Under Equalizer Fx | Settings make certain that the following is checked:
Global audio output mix
Works pretty well BUT stops working fairly regularly
to fix ...
disable & then re-enable by toggling "blue round icon" frequently
(also make certain that it's exempt from battery optimization)
1) Start with equalizer set to FLAT (not Default)
2) Save it as e.g. myFlat+ Profile
3) Set Loundness Enhancer to max in Effects.
4) Raise all bars to max in equalizer(remains flat just louder)
For clearer speech ... create mySpeech profile
exactly as above except 4)
4) Raise only 910Hz & 3Khz to max
I use Equalizer FX. It works for apps that use the equalizer (such as Google Play Music and Spotify, but not Pandora for example). I can notice a difference in my car but you can only get so great with Bluetooth :/.
I installed this and now I have to leave the volume really low due to the equalizer. I'm on T-Mobile so for some reason it is missing.

i found this one better. With the other app, be patient with the loudness enhancer or it blows your speaker.
Just to answer your last question -- the headphones use the LDAC codec, once you apply an EQ in the app it drops down to SBC, I think. I don't understand the technicalities but that's by design and it's dumb, it basically reduces the sound quality further. Like, my aptx headphones still use aptx once I apply an EQ.
You can try EQ-ing with a third party app like this and see if LDAC is still active after.
I also use the Equalizer FX(free) app.

The Snapdragon Audio+ likely won't work because Xiaomi uses the Dirac sound processing instead of using Qualcomm's own. You could try disabling com.android.musicfx and installing Equalizer FX which works really well for non-rooted phones
Using Equaliser FX at the moment and it's pretty great, just disable the system Music FX and turn off the bass boost in the app
Equalizer FX at least works well with Google Music, Spotify and NewPipe (F-droid YouTube alternative). Makes for me Google Music experience acceptable on a phone where V4A refuses to work. For local music play I use PowerAmp and Gonemad with their own built in superior audio engine and eq

I havne't tried any but the one that is apart of Android. I access it via Spotify or Google Play Music.
I used this one on my LG V20 since it was disabled for some reason.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devdnua.equalizer.free&hl=en
Absent in those apps for me, with my V20 and other phones on Nougat. I never really used Play Music so I don't know if it was ever there, but Spotify definitely had one in the past.
Looking it up, it seems most people switched to using a separate one, like Equalizer FX, now.
That, and I suspect much of this entire thread, is an Equalizer issue.
When powered on, the headset uses Bose’s Active EQ. When off, they don't, and you'll need to use the host device's equalizer.
And since Apple uses a different EQ from Android and Windows, you'll get a different sound. Even with the headset turned on, the sound will change depending on the host device's EQ settings.
Apple has its EQ set to be a bit more full with a bit of an amp, whereas Android defaults to a flat, neutral EQ. Which is to be expected, since the whole point of Android is "Choose your own settings". And so yes, it'll sound flat if you don't play with the EQ.
With the stock music player on my Note 3, they sound very dull. With the 10 band equalizer set to my preferred settings in N7 Player, they sound fantastic. If you prefer to use a music player without an inbuilt equalizer, try Equalizer FX.
A PC also has the same issue with a default neutral EQ, with the added fun of different audiocards and drivers. Realtek drivers sound very different from Windows' default drivers, for instance. Cheap audiocards sound much worse. And every mediaplayer has its own equalizer. (Yes, even WMP)
TLDR: Change the Equalizer settings in your media player.
I've been using PowerAmp for as long as I can recall and you can really hear the difference as opposed to Google Play Music which is quite lacking to be honest. Although the latter lacks the extra oomph that the former has, there's this app called Equalizer FX which can improve the sound quality for that extra oomph! The headphones I have I have to turn it up to 50 for it to sound good but when I turn on the equalizer I have to keep it at 15 or below.
I am using this since I am on T-Mobile and the equalizer seems to be missing:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/how-to/guide-fix-speaker-distortion-pixel-2-xl-t3763378

1) Disable Google's MusixFx App (com.android.musicfx)
2) Install an equalizer app (In my case i used Equalizer FX. Pro Free version)
3) Open the app (if you haven't disabled yet Google's MusicFx app, it will told you to do so)
4) Depending on how is affected your speaker because the bad mounting (Google's fault) you will have to play lowering the frequencies. In my case I only needed to lower 910Hz to -7db
5) No more distortion!!!....

I suggest you lower 230Hz to -1.1db and 910Hz to -4.6db.
Problem solved.

Haha! AutoMod strikes again! Sorry, that made me chuckle.
I don't think I've seen any Audiobook players with those features and I've tried most of them. Reverb and such effects are more likely to be found in Music players but like you mentioned, they don't do so well with audiobooks.
Does your phone not have an EQ built in? Perhaps give something like AudioFX a go and play with the EQ to get a "fuller" sound. I think Reverb would make an audiobook sound very odd, wouldn't it?
Here's a few EQ apps with decent reviews:
Cyan Apps (install Audio FX)
(Edit: added links)
I use Equalizer FX Pro for Bluetooth. You can try the free version first to check it out. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devdnua.equalizer.free
Note: not in any order, nor have I tried any of these. Just some things I stumbled upon looking for alternatives.
For some reason T-Mobile thought it would be a good idea to remove the EQ from the build for them (assuming you have the T-Mobile version).
I downloaded this EQ and it works well

Equalizer or it's paid fork
Does this work the same as Equalizer FX?
Try this equalizer, it should work on bluetooth audio too. There's an ad free/pro version if you liked it.
Equalizer FX will maybe help.
I use this regularly: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devdnua.equalizer.free
Np, and it's an app from the play store you can find here
Spotify uses your default equalizer:
In my case I use Equalizer FX - I disabled the system equalizer[see my setup below]
Podcasts
Podcast Republic app has a great equalizer and volume booster that can be set by podcast or globally for all podcasts.
So the above would get you what you want by using those specific apps - I'm not aware of a global by app treble/bass app.

Other ways of improving volume / sound
Using browser extensions
Android Chromium browsers with "extensions" support: Using either Kiwi or Yandex
Install Audio EQ extension from chrome web store [Slide up Preamp & use e.g. Ska preset]
Firefox browser for Android:
Install ...
Audio Equalizer [Slide up Preamp & use e.g. Ska preset]
&/or
SoundFixer extension & slide "Gain" to the right.
Choose "Android APPS" with a good INBUILT Audio Enhancer / Equalizer
such as
GOM Audio [Equalizer:I like SKA setting / it has Balance control / Preamp etc.]
Total Commander - file manager using built-in TotalCmd(Queue) / TC Media Player.
You can try out Equalizer FX: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devdnua.equalizer.free
I sideloaded one as well as a volume boost for BT audio. You will need a mouse+keyboard plugged in to set the EQ options
Equalizer FX. Volume Booster Goodev
You can use Evozi apk downloader to extract free apks from the play store

You can try Equalizer FX https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devdnua.equalizer.free&hl=en
I use this app for eq and it helps quite a bit: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devdnua.equalizer.free
Yeah mine disappeared too. I use this app instead, it has the same sliders
I have been using this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devdnua.equalizer.free&hl=en
T-Mobile version doesn't have that. You have to use a third party EQ.
